"Flagcruft"

Everybody keeps quoting MOS:FLAGCRUFT. I have looked at MOS:FLAGCRUFT. What listed there is reason for removing these from the Race pages? We are not emphasizing a thing or person's nationality unnecessarily, as the flags represent the countries themselves as a whole, much like one would see on an Olympics page. We are not using a flag because a picture of someone is unavailable. We're not using subnational flags except for cases such as Hong Kong, and we're not using Supernational flags. We're not rewriting history, hence why we use the old "White circle" design of the Malawi flag on TAR19 even though that one is no longer used. And finally, this has nothing to do with genocide, and it is not a disambiguation page. So why is everyone citing MOS:FLAGCRUFT? Shadow2 (talk) 07:28, 17 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi, I'm wondering why you asked me to take Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022 to AfD? The primary arguments in the prior AfD was that it was identical to the draft & TOOSOON, and the current article is almost identical (diff) to the draft before the AfD was closed. Curling

Hey Sportsfan 1234. Following up on our conversation from the other day, I would just like to discuss the curling summary tables on countries articles for the 2022 Games. I see you have been putting all of the opposition games in one box and keeping the font at regular size as you believe “codes + small writing is hard to read.” Personally, I think that this way looks very messy and is harder to read and keep track of then the way I have been doing it with all countries scores in individual boxes. The countries codes are not too challenging to read and the font size is not that small either. Also, keeping all of the teams in individual boxes is how it was done for the 2018 Games and it worked just fine so I think it is easier to keep it this way. Keeping the summary boxes this way also allows all the countries final scores to be added to the table (see Canada at the 2018 Winter Olympics#Curling) which I don’t think can be done with the way you currently have the tables setup. Israel at the 2022 Winter Olympics - Alpine skiing

Hey,

I saw that you mentioned that Israel had declined one quota for alpine skiing. Since the statements of the members of the Olympic Committee in Israel that I know so far have been that if there is a third quota, it has not yet been decided who will be the third representative, and that there is no intention to decline the quota. TAR S33E02 Pit Start

Just curious what the rules on putting in the Pit Start locations of legs are in the Race Summary section since you undid my edit? I've looked back on previous seasons, and from what I've gathered, I believe it's included if the Pit Stop/Pit Start locations are different? Wouldn't that apply here since the Pit Stop of leg 1 was at the Natural History Museum but the Pit Start of leg 2 was at St Mary Abbots church? OMGitsGARRET (talk) 02:26, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by this? If you mean audibly mentioned, then yes, it wasn't audibly mentioned. However, you can visually see on screen that the Pit Start isn't at the Natural History Museum — it's at St Mary Abbots church. Would that not count as a technical mention because you can visually see it on screen? And if not, wouldn't a bunch of previous seasons of TAR Wikis have to be changed then? For example, for leg 6 of season 32, "Paris (Place Vendôme) (Pit Start)" is put as the Pit Start, however there's no audible mention of this in the episode. Though you can visually see that it's obviously the Pit Start location just from seeing it on screen, hence why I assume it's included. So would that same situation not apply here? Luge at the 2022 Winter Olympics – Qualification

Which document? The list of qualified lugers which indicates Slovakia with two men's sled, which could not be true unless reallocated, which the Slovak Olympic committee stated was the case. Is there something new that you have, because that document also does not list the Netherlands women's sled, which definitely did qualify ahead of Moldova, but it is unclear how reallocation worked.18abruce (talk) 23:18, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Still possible for sure, but unlikely since he raced six world cups, which was at five different tracks, during Olympic Qualifying. Someone had to give up their spot for Slovakia but there is something that does not quite work in the men's and women's reallocation. MoS regarding Nations at Olympics

Since you are a member of the WikiProject:Olympics, you should be aware that the Manual of Style of this WikiProject refers to Palau at the 2008 Summer Olympics as an examplatory article hence therefore it is acceptable to divide men and women in a sport if there are 6 people or less participating. It may not be mandatory, but since it is part of the instructions at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion, a policy page, that is a somewhat weak excuse to say the least. The user of a tool is always responsible for the actions of a tool as if they made the edit themselves and it is down to them to fix any mistakes. A large number of articles have been nominated at once, there is now little time for the creator to react, the editor still has not been informed, and the editor in question User:Kaffe42 has not edited for five days. If this were problematic material I wouldn't care, but it isn't, so in the interest of fairness, I'm going to deprod them all. SpinningSpark 16:41, 28 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm big on what words actually mean, and if a policy page says significant contributors should ideally be left a message then it means there is no mandate to leave a message. Sure, it's the equivalent of "strongly encouraged", but implying that a lack of notification somehow invalidates a PROD (or XfD) is improper.

Olympic templates

Hi... I saw you nominated templates for events that are in their 1st year at the Olympics. I have looked at past games 2018 and 2020 and there are quite a few that are 1st year events that have templates. Should they all be deleted? February 2022

My edits were formatting edits, following the Olympics manual of style. As per the Olympics MOS (and per my double checking first how previous years were done), the flagbearers are combined into one line, not separate ones. This is why I combined them on articles that I have gone through. I also edited some dates to maintain consistency through an article, to avoid articles switching back and forth from MDY to DMY (the MOS also indicates dates should be consistent). My guess is that the MoS hasn't been updated since the Olympic template was updated a few years ago. The new template has explicit lines for opening and closing flagbearers, so to me it makes sense to either use those, or remove the extra line from the template. I prefer using them, but either way that should be discussed so consensus could be reached on how the issue should be handled in the future. Please, let me know what is your problem with the Pan American games templates. Your edits have been based only on removing information from them, which is not acceptable unless you have a good reason to do it. Hi Sportsfan 1234 I removed the template from Abdul Rahman Omar (bowls) following the process Help:AFD part 2 which states In the Proposed Deletion (PROD) process, editors (including you) may agree (by adding Proposed deletion endorsed below the Proposed deletion template), or disagree (by removing these templates). If you disagree, indicate why you object in the edit summary. so I am a bit confused as to why a bot has reverted the removal when it is an option. Your proposed deletion suggests it failed WP:GNG but surely a champion of a continent of a 'worldwide sport' does not fail WP:GNG. Was it the references that you thought needed improving? As a minor point, I've added some wikilinks just for ease of navigating, you are welcome to remove them. You have somewhat misunderstood the guidance at the Help page. Omar's page has been nominated for deletion via AFD, so in the "flowchart" of how deletion discussions work, you need to go to step 3.1 (not step 3.2 as you have described, which regards a proposed deletion). Survivor tables

Have you actually participated in any of the recent discussions on these tables? It has been pointed out that a past RFC as well as from more recent discussion (see [5]) that the changes are necessary to comply with our MOS and accessibility requirements. Wrestling record and medal tables

Hey Sportsfan 1234, how is it going? I'm writing to you because of two things. First of all, I really can't see how adding a record of senior, international level matches to a wrestler is "due weight", seeing who a wrestler faced and how he did at national, continental and world events is important and I really can't see it as unnecessary at all, I see it as a nice addition. Plus, there's no section (or is largely uncompleted) that shows at the very least what place someone took at national/continental/world events in most articles.

Second, I visited WP:Olympics as you directed me to, but 1. Collegiate wrestling is not even an olympic sport and is a different style to freestyle/Greco-Roman, and only the National and Conference championships are listed. Even if it was an olympic sport, I don't see the page saying anything about medal tables.

Collegiate wrestling is not a sport. Wrestling is. International tournaments are located in the infobox of athletes. Listing every match of an athlete is 100% undue weight. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:28, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Of course it isn't, no one said it was, but it is another discipline/event and there's no reason to not add its biggest tourneys in an athlete's infobox just because it isn't an Olympic sport. Collegiate wrestling literally does not have international tournaments, the pinnacle of NCAA wrestling is the national championship, therefore it shall be added in the infobox imo. Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

I'm looking over some pages that your PROD'd and noticed that you don't post notifications on the talk page of the page creator letting them know about the proposed deletion. This is important with PRODs because sometimes there is an easy fix to whatever has gotten the tagger's attention, like adding additional sources that the article creator can do something about. I see you used Twinkle to tag the page, which is great, but Twinkle should be posting these notices for you. Please check your Twinkle Preferences so that "Notify page creator" box is checked off. This way, any time you tag a page for deletion, Twinkle will do the work for you which makes the process easy. If you also tag for speedy deletion, please go to the CSD preferences and make sure every criteria box is checked off. For some reason the Twinkle default is to only notify page creators for certain types of CSD criteria when I don't think it really matters why the page will be deleted, the content creator should be informed about it. If I might be so bold as to tender you helpful, or at least hopefully helpful, advice, it would be for you to heed to basic rules. It might look that way now, but when I got the histmerge request the page looked a lot different. Special:Diff/1102392777 is you moving the page to draft, and Special:PermaLink/1102425224 is you creating a brand-new page in the article space (as explained further here). There's nothing wrong with moving an article to Draft for it to be worked on further, but when it's ready to go the page should be moved back to the article space, not recreated on the hopes that someone will notice and request a {{histmerge}}. Notification for deletion tagging

I've been dealing with some articles you PROD'd and you neglected to post notifications on the talk page of the article creators. This is an important step in the deletion process with all forms of deletion (CSD, PROD, AFD/CFD/RFD/etc.). What I don't understand is that you used Twinkle to tag the pages and Twinkle should have posted a notice on the talk page of the content creator for you.

Please check your Twinkle Preferences and make sure that you have the "Notify page creator" box checked off. Neglecting to inform content creators when their pages have been tagged for deletion and moving another editor's page into Draft space so you can create your own version of the article doesn't make you look like a collaborative editor, Sportsfan 1234. When you open up the Twinkle AfD window, there should be a checkbox near the top which says "Notify page creator if possible"?
