ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:27, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

Charlottetown

You can't just add an unsourced estimate to the infobox like that. All Canadian articles should contain the latest census figures in the infobox and can also include the estimate but it needs a reference. I've added the estimate to the infobox with the city source. The CA figure in the last sentence of the lead said 80,347 Ibut the source shows 83,063. In the infobox the area's were from 2011. So they are now 2021 census figures. Hockey. Not field hockey. At Olympics articles. Your opinion does not override existing consensus. You are disruptive. CEASE.

Just because the article on Field hockey is named that way, does not mean this is the name that must be used everywhere. I already explained to you that the Olympics WikiProject has, I think it was last year, decided to use the official IOC names for sports when in general use on Olympics-related articles. Your continued attempts to change "hockey" to "field hockey" is the actual disruption, and goes against this consensus, and I don't even know why you insist it must be so even without that - it's not like names of things have to always match their article titles in the first place. Please self-revert and stop such behaviour, especially threatening me when I'm just cleaning up your disruption. Kingsif (talk) 02:31, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Can you please link me to this supposed consensus? Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:33, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I have been trying to find it since I brought it up. It's about the naming convention of "Equestrian", because a lot of people felt it just sounded weird. Kingsif (talk) 02:37, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
I don't think it exists ? Again, you should self revert as you are actually going against consensus as the title of the article is with the field. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:38, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
Ok, best I've found is through looking at my edits mentioning "equestrian", and I've found a thread from when it was moved to WP:SPORTS, here. The result of the discussion there was no change per WP:OFFICIALNAME. As I said in an edit reason, if you want to see if users support all instances of Olympic hockey (official name) being changed to field hockey, you can start your own RfC.
But, er, no, as I also said, an article title being one thing does not mean that every mention of that thing across Wikipedia must agree. That's not a rule, and certainly not a consensus as you assert (has there been some WP-wide consensus-forming discussion that every mention of a thing must use the same name, that I've missed?). Maybe everything in agreement is your preference, but your preference does not trump either OFFICIALNAME, or what I can currently find of tentative consensus that OFFICIALNAME should be what applies to naming of sports in Olympic-related articles. It also doesn't trump status quo, the informal consensus of an article being a certain way for so long before you decide it needs to be changed (and it was like that before I started expanding it, too, by the way). Kingsif (talk) 02:49, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
Its up to you to start an RFC as YOU are the one disputing the change. The consensus of having the title as "Field hockey at the Olympics" is being overturned here. If there was a consensus on OFFICIALNAME, hockey would be used across the board. An article with both Field and Ice hockey listed should be distinguished that is common sense. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:01, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
You're the one wanting to make a change, my friend, any RfC would be up to you. I'd be happy to start a general discussion on the matter, of course. But, like, after the holidays. Can't controversial changes (and you should have quickly realised it was controversial when the reverts came in) be put on hold for the holidays? Like, I deliberately moved most of my editing to be just migrating refs at the List of LGBT Olympians and Paralympians article to avoid stress on the holidays, and yet, it found me. For the record, I don't know why extra distinguishing needs to happen when ice hockey is already called ice hockey, so it can't be common sense if at least one person who handles the topic a lot can't even see the sense in it.
I imagine in the time it took you to reply, you read the equestrian RfC I linked? I would like to know how you interpreted it, because I really do want your issues to be resolved; if it doesn't convince you, then a discussion or dispute resolution is needed. And I would have preferred to convince you, but am happy to go through the process to meet an agreeable outcome. But, again, it's Christmas Eve, I went to the article you want to change to get away from stressors, can this wait? Like, do you mind a few more weeks of the text remaining as it has been for at least 18 months before discussing whether words need adding? Kingsif (talk) 03:20, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Removal of redirects in the articles

Hello. Please refrain from removing the redirects in the articles until they eventually contain content with verifiable citations. Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics does not state any rules regarding the prohibition of redirects unless you can further discuss them on the talk page. For now, leave them as they truly are. Thank you! Removing articles into drafts

Can you explain to me why you've pulled my recent articles regarding the 2023 Winter World University Games from the mainspace? Wurstwicht (talk) 13:37, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

The articles are of poor quality, lack any substantial references, and quite frankly look like they were rushed. I moved them to draft so others including yourself can improve the qualify before moving it back to mainspace. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:16, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

Alexandria Loutitt

Let me educate you little about ski jumping. I don't blame Canadian media, ski jumping is not really the No.1 sport there. But medals (gold, silver, bronze) in ski jumping are strictly awarded only at World Championships and Olympics. And by no mean in World Cup, there are only World Cup victories (prize money, various cups and flowers only). The same goes for all winter sports governed by FIS. Sportomanokin (talk) 20:29, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification, however that doesn't excuse bad English. I have edited the wording. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 20:50, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

The page Freestyle skiing at the 2023 Winter World University Games has been speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This was done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it was a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

Please do not recreate the material without addressing these concerns, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If you think this page should not have been deleted for this reason, you may contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you may open a discussion at Wikipedia:Deletion Review. Please see the reply on my own talk page. You are challenging a well-established consensus, and should also be aware that a further edit or revert by you would contravene WP:3RR. That Olympic events are referred to by their official IOC titles should really not be the subject of an edit war after so many years of established precedent. Swimming at the 2023 Pan American Games

Hello, you have deleted the creation of my article, an article that follows what is established in the rest of the sports pages in the 2023 Pan American Games, the truth is not the first time that happens every time I create an article of this type and most of the time they are deleted it's because of you, I would like to know the cause, because I follow the creation rules and it's annoying that every time I create or edit something it deletes my contributions. Move warring

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

It's okay to move an improperly sourced article to Draft space but the article creator has the right to object to draftification and move it back. Please do not move an article to Draft space more than once or you could be move warring which is just as serious as edit-warring. This shouldn't become a battle between two editors. If you still object to an article in main space, either work to improve the article, tag it with an appropriate tag or look into one of our deletion processes. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:22, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Also, please do not target the work of one editor and move all of their page creations or it could be seen as harassment. Becoming persistent about these things have gotten experienced editors in trouble before. Thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 03:23, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

Uncivil question

I saw your query on IRC channel #wikipedia-en-help but you parted the channel before I could respond. The point of -en-help is to provide answers to questions about 'how to edit'. We avoid getting involved in content disputes or behavioral issues. Yes, it looked like an uncivil comment, but you've tangled with that user before. You have to ask yourself: Do I want to get involved at ANI again or shall I simply not send warning templates to this user who clearly does not want them? You can still do the edits you want, including - if in your judgment necessary - reverts of that user's contributions. Just skip the warning, as they are optional for routine edits. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 04:50, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

Query

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

I was just wondering about some of your recent page moves. Why are you moving redirects to Draft space when they are redirects to other main space articles? Why can't they remain in main space? This has caused a lot of pages to be deleted via CSD R2 when the same page exists, just now in Draft space. This is a lot of clean up for admins to deal with with no apparent purpose. Thank you. Draftifying redirects

Please do not move redirects to draft space, as you did here. Draft space is not meant to incubate or work on redirects, which is part of the reason that Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation does not review redirects in draft space. Redirects which you do not believe should exist in main space should be sent to WP:RFD instead of draft space. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:01, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Keeping empty tables

Can you help me understand why you're reverting my cleanup of the Pan American Games articles? You first accused me of removing material without explanation, when an explanation was provided. You've not since acknolwedged that explanation or your mistake. Now, you're reverted some of my edits without explanation yourself. There's absolutely no reason to have large amounts of empty tables and unreferenced claims in the corpus; once the results or standings are available, the can be added and referenced appropriately. -- Mikeblas (talk) 17:21, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Morgan Davis, which you proposed for deletion. Davis won Canada's highest music award (the Juno Award which would establish notability. I expect his article would easily survive an AFD. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!

A tag has been placed on Category:Events at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 17:08, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

Surfing Qualification to the 2024 Olympics

Hi, you restored my edit for some reason. Don't know why, because according to WSL all three have qualified for Paris along with McGillivray.

Thanks! 2604:3D08:5B7E:DB00:4D48:97C3:CFC2:73B4 (talk) 03:27, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi, please remember to assume good faith. I reverted your revesion on Talk:Pierre Poilievre; if you disagree with their points, reply to them and explain why, but there was nothing to me that screamed "troll". ― "Ghost of Dan Gurney" (talk)  23:58, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Hi. I was looking over the edits you were referring to in the request for protection for this article. I don't see that the edits from the anon IP are vandalism. If you want to continue editing that article, I strongly suggest that you start a discussion on the talk page, so you don't accidentally run into an edit war situation. Joyous! Esports Panamerican 2023

Hello Sportsfan 1234. I appreciate the response to the noticification I put in the article, but I must appeal at this opportunity. The event is considered for the first time part of the Pan American Games.

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

Why did you move this article to Draft space, blank the page and then recreate it in main space? Is there a reason to obliterate the page history from the original article? Please do not cut and paste a draft into main space when there was an existing article. If an article exists, even as a Redirect, please work with that existing article don't seek its deletion so you can create a new version. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:38, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

My original intent was to work on the draft as the list is incomplete as of now, however it was deleted as well (not by my request). However, the article in its current format has 15 references, so I think it should be sufficient (even though the list is incomplete for now). Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:58, 8 October 2023 (UTC)

Santiago 2023 / October 2023

Howdy. I'm guessing the mass overturning of all my edits on 2023 Pan American Games was either an oopsie or done on purpose. You overturning these edits making things on the article more present without an explanation isn't acceptable. Why? Rushtheeditor (talk) 11:10, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

Repeated use of Bare URL's which is just simply laziness. Please use either citeweb or citenews (or any other applicable citation template) to cite the sources you are placing in the article. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:12, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
Sportsfan 1234, please link to the guideline that recommends reverting the addition of sourced text to articles just because bare URLs were used. It appears that some of your reverts were performed within minutes of the addition of sourced text. Maybe there is some history that I do no understand, or a guideline that I am not aware of. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:24, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
i filled the bare urls. the quick revisions are weird. im just a cdn who likes multi sport events - idk who this person is. Rushtheeditor (talk) 03:50, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
I agree with rushtheeditor about the removal of articles about participants at the Pan American Games. Why is this done. If there is somethng that needs to be done to improve the citations, please feel free to do it. Ehatchman (talk) 12:59, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Racquetball at the 2023 Pan American Games

You've edited out the words that I put on the Racquetball at the 2023 Pan American Games page, although those words simply describe what is in the tables, so really it shouldn't be inappropriate at all, should it? I thought some people might like to read a summary of the tables, because they detail several events and some of the connections may not be obvious. I do reference past games, so I suppose making a reference to the Racquetball at the Pan American Games page would be good. But really simply proposing things for omission or deletion isn't very helpful versus making suggestions about how things might be improved (on an article talk page, say) or even - if a small edit would do - making that edit yourself. I mean, we Wikipedians are supposed to be helping each other make Wikipedia articles the best they can be, yes? Trb333 (talk) 17:53, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Draftifying

It seems you often draftify articles without notifying editors of it, e.g. at Isa Darvin. Note that per Wikipedia:Drafts#Requirements for draftifying editors, you are required to notify the creating editors when you move their creations to draftspace without discussion, otherwise it could result in the articles being deleted through the backdoor. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 15:20, 5 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,
BeanieFan11 is correct, you need to notify content creators when you move their articles to Draft space. Please use a script/tool like User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft which will take care of that step for you. But it's important that you start doing this with every draftification.
Also, with Lauren Miller (rower), you draftified this article even though it had already been draftified before. This should only be done once so please check page histories to see whether or not an article has already been draftified so you don't do this twice. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:08, 6 November 2023 (UTC)

More on draftifying

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

I was looking at Golf at the 2023 Pan American Games – Men's individual and you moved it to Draft space THREE MINUTES after the article was created. This is ridiculous. There is no way an editor can create an acceptable article with one edit. You need to allow content creators at least an hour to work on a newly created article and if an editor is currently working on improving an article it should not be draftified at all. I think you are losing sight of what draftifying is for and it's getting to the point where I'm considering scrutinizing all of your page moves to make sure they are in line with Wikipedia policies.

Please be more thoughtful and do not be so eager to draftify articles. It often is unnecessary and can infuriate our regular content creators who will only revert your page moves. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:24, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

I didn't view when the article was created, why should I? I stumbled upon the article editing a related article. I saw it was not up to standard and drafted it! Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:26, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
I think Liz' point is that you should check to see when a page was created before draftifying. Primefac (talk) 10:01, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Unexplained revert

Hi there. Recently you reverted my reversion of one of your edits on Toronto, however you didn't provide an explanation. I gave an explanation in my reversion as to why I thought your edit should be reverted as WP:PRIMARY is quite acceptable for non-controversial basic statements of fact. Yet you reverted with zero explanation instead of taking it to the talk page. I am curious as to why you reverted a valid reinstatement with zero explanation. Canterbury Tail talk 03:46, 19 February 2024 (UTC)

Sorry I did not see this till now. I added a reference sourcing the information, making the primary sources unnecessary (hence the revert). Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:55, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Poor form - unexplained revert

Please provide an explanation when you make a revert. I made a WP:GOODFAITH edit at Football at the 2024 Summer Olympics – Women's qualification, which you reverted with no explanation. It makes sense to me that the table in the article I editted is sorted by location, not by time, as the rest of the article has sections sorted by location. So I restored my edit, and you immediately revert - THIS time with an explanation - and say "Rv distruptive editing; chronological order". I dont have time to spend on further editing at that article, but you need to understand that reverts without explanation are themselves disrupting, and I see that this is not isolated, as the post by @Canterbury Tail: and several other editors demonstrates. Matilda Maniac (talk) 22:13, 25 February 2024 (UTC)

My edits are self explanatory. As per the WP:BRD process instead of edit warring, please take it to the talk page. Olympic qualification tables are sorted in chronological order fwiw on team sports articles (from what I gather on the 2020/2024 articles) not "location". Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:57, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Apparently my reply sounded "rude". Not the intent here! Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:57, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
I've also looked at your recent contributions and noticed that you seldom leave an edit summary. Every edit should have a summary, as it says below: (Briefly describe your changes). It's not that hard to do. You are not above that requirement, despite your comments showing your belief that your "edits are self explanatory." If you will please read WP:BRD, then take note of the following: "When reverting, be specific about your reasons in the edit summary and use links if needed." Matilda Maniac (talk) 04:50, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

Page moves

Hello, Sportsfan 1234,

Would you revert all of your page moves? As mentioned above, please read Talk:Equestrian at the Summer Olympics#Requested move 30 December 2023 and Talk:Equestrian events at the Asian Games#Requested move 14 February 2024. Please do not do massive page move projects on long-standing articles without checking first to see if they abide by a consensus decision. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:00, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Again, this was not done at the project talk page. The discussion has been moved to WP:OLYMPICS talk page. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:57, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Why?

Why did you revert me? It would be nice if you mentioned a reason in the edit summary. HandsomeFella (talk) 00:04, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

The sport is called "Equestrian" not "Equestrian events" [4]. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:19, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Hi Sportsfan 1234, we held an RM Talk:Equestrian at the Summer Olympics#Requested move 30 December 2023, closed with Equestrian at the Summer OlympicsEquestrian events at the Summer Olympics, Equestrian at the 1900 Summer OlympicsEquestrian events at the 1900 Summer Olympics, etc. moved. Please take a look at that discussion. Talk:Equestrian events at the Asian Games#Requested move 14 February 2024 likewise reached a similar result. You shouldn't unilaterally revert moves made by RM consensus.
As for a subpage like Equestrian at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification, I acknowledge that the RMs did not specifically cover it. Normally it wouldn't be controversial to name a subpage to match its main article, but if you insist then we would need to have another RM for that. Adumbrativus (talk) 00:32, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
I did not see that discussion! In any case the participation level was low, and should not have occurred there for a big change. I have cross-posted it in the WP:OLYMPIC talk page. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:00, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
I suggest you should probably revert your moves pending any new consensus for different titles. wjematherplease leave a message... 16:41, 9 March 2024 (UTC)

Fencing at the 2024 Olympics
