Olympic participants

The Swedish participation total, 110, is final according to the Swedish Olympic Committee.[1]. -- Lejman (talk) 19:16, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Yes but reallocations are still underway and Sweden could gain more athletes. Also no reference is needed for athlete numbers. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 02:50, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

References

Revert/references

Did your revert refer to the olympic athlete counter we already discussed earlier, or do I have to readd information to the olympic teams' sites? How do I know when a reference isn't needed, it seems rather random team sizes wouldn't need a reference. (Also should we count quotas or actually nominated people? Sweden has requested more quotas than it apparently intends to use in Alpine Skiing for instance, presumably for reserves. I don't think we generally list non-participating athletes except for the reserves in curling.)

I understand we all have our issues, and bare urls is apparently something that grinds your gears. I'm improving this site and am not disruptive. If you genuinely want people to improve their references, it would be more appropriate to direct them to wikipages explaining how to do references, rather than wiki's rules and guidelines in general. The wiki guidelines are not easily digested and thus do not easily lead to improvements in referencing.

How do you add references in a smooth way? I usually copy a good reference from the same page and fill that in, but when I can't find any nearby I sometimes am sloppy and can add bare urls. Wikipedia's reference system is bulky and impractical in my eyes, but maybe you have a better way of doing it I could learn from. I'll try to be more mindful, in any case.

In turn, please try to be mindful of others' issues. As much as you strive to improve this site your efforts may prove counterproductive if your messaging becomes interpreted as blunt or even rude, despite your best intentions. -- Lejman (talk) 21:33, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Skeleton and Bobsled qualification

I am not sure you are aware of how the sliding sports qualification system works, but as the Pyeongchang Olympic cycle removed initial world rank as a necessity for minimum inclusion, and instead went to a listed quota system, it is more appropriate and relevant to include the actual quota position. As the World Rank is not taken into account in qualification and only quota position of the list-3 is, please be aware that removing mention of world rank after the 7th qualifying race is pertinent to relevance. If it is helpful, refer to the IBSF qualification guidelines to familiarize yourself with this process. — Preceding unsigned comment added by LelouchV (talkcontribs) 11:25, 29 January 2018 (UTC)

The article Alexandra Taylor has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

NN alpine skier, didn't actually compete in the Olympics, fails the GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. gc2018 rollback

i saw you rollback all my edits. what the problems now? i made template for each of the schedule? and what is the logic of putting participating nations list at bottom of article? Bromalayan (talk) 09:06, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

The template is not needed, because the schedule is only being used in one page. Those pages are really small and therefore do not need templates. I am in the process of removing the templates. Participating nations are listed at the bottom of the page, because medallists are listed first then all participating countries. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:44, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

Brazilians soccer players' articles

Hello, Sportsfan. I am administrator and bureaucrat of the Lusophone Wikipedia, I live in Brazil and because I know the scenario of the sport in the country, I have serious fears about the numerous articles of Brazilian soccer players in the English-speaking Wikipedia.

First, soccer in Brazil has an obvious division. Clubs from the third division down suffer with severe difficulties, making it normal to dispense the entire cast and reformulate it. In summary, every season the clubs of smaller expressions dismiss all players and hire new ones for the following year.

The second point is that many novice players come up each year, the articles of these players are created by fans and many of these newbies do not get a career in the club and end up being sold or loaned to clubs with smaller expressions.

Thus, the Anglophone Wikipedia has several outdated articles about Brazilian footballers, but by the criteria of notoriety, it is enough to make a game in an official championship to be notorious.

I would like to state this question, if you are interested, you can answer me with your opinion, I have several links to prove what I am talking about, or ask me if possible, tell me a user or a place more suitable to present this conversation. 2018 Commonwealth Games

Why did you remove the sponsors' section from the 2018 Commonwealth Games page? Just check the 2000 Summer Olympics page as it has the sponsors' section. Sheffieldgraduate (talk) 06:52, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

A list of sponsors is not necessary for an encyclopedia entry of a multi-sporting event. This is the prevalent nature of majority of these type of articles. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:25, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Fair enough. Either way, the page is locked since there were so many editors involved. Primefac (talk) 14:12, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

Please be more careful when creating an AfD

Many of your AfDs were for clearly notable subjects or articles. You need to do your research before running to AfD. Enigmamsg 03:21, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

When an article is nominated for deletion, immediately some hard-working Wikipedians spring into action performing various administrative tasks. Soon after many, many editors begin spending a few moments looking at it, probably numbering in the thousands. Many (maybe hundreds) do at least some rudimentary research. A few get interested/concerned enough to do serious research. They may spend significant time. When a spurious nomination is made, many valuable hours are wasted on activities that do not improve the encyclopedia. It's far better if the one person who has doubts about the subjects notability spends the necessary time (and in many cases, that's not seconds or minutes, but possibly hours) to be sure before bringing the article to the community for discussion.
Most of your recent AfDs have been good, but a few have shown a possible lack of understanding of the strain it puts on the resources of the Wikipedia community.
Notability is not dependent on just what is found in "the first few hits on a google search". There are circumstances when a google search may return so many irrelevant results that the useful information is way, way down the line, or doesn't appear at all, particularly when the time frame is pre-internet and when the subject matter is not in your default language. In cases when the subject material is unfamiliar to you, especially due to language barriers, or when the time frame the subject became familiar is pre-internet, much more work is needed before one can really have a grasp of the subjects notability.
Please keep nominating articles for AfD! But please, please do a more thorough job of WP:BEFORE, including understanding the limitations of your searches (particularly recency, geographical, language, and cultural bias) and the impact to the community of bad nominations. Thanks, Jacona (talk) 13:46, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Dispute

Hi there! I see you've had a dispute at Shooting at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Qualification and things needlessly escalated. In future to prevent stuff like this, make sure to include a full comment on why you are reverting other users' edits. This essay on warning templates is also helpful. Technology can make our interactions feel very impersonal at times. I find things work better if we take the time to talk SFB 19:48, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

I left a comment on the user's talk page. I have noticed interacting with that user is a really futile exercise because he victimizes himself. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 21:52, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Leaving templates is not the same as a comment. Jonathunder (talk) 22:20, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
The user removed previous comments. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:24, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

You've been deleting comments also. While you have a right to remove things from your talk page, it stops dialogue and makes it hard for a neutral third party like myself to follow, so I'm politely asking you to stop doing that. Jonathunder (talk) 22:39, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

I have only removed template comments that are clearly not appropriate. As you can see the one above was not removed... Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:40, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Ok. So, with words rather than templates, what seems to be the problem here? Jonathunder (talk) 22:41, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Under this discussion, nothing. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:42, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Well, there's a discussion at ANI about a dispute between you and Walter that seems to be bouncing around. Care to explain here? Jonathunder (talk) 22:45, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

The user removed section headings which I reverted and left a disruptive editing notice. They replied with a "personal attack" template (which could be further from the truth). Article: Morocco 2026 FIFA World Cup bid Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 22:50, 12 June 2018 (UTC)

Sportsfan 1234, I think you're doing a lot of very good editing work. However, your interactions with other editors could be better. When someone engages you in a dispute, discuss it on the appropriate talk page. Ignoring them, or deleting their comments, leads to increasingly more combative situations. As a result, your name keeps popping up at ANI, and eventually, this could lead to some sort of administrative action against you. I don't want to see that happen! Please, when someone tries to discuss something with you, no matter if it seems stupid or even combative, be the mature editor in the room and objectively explain your reasoning, how it relates to Wikipedia policies, and possibly point them to essays or other material that could help them understand. You'll make them better editors in the process, and thereby improve the encyclopedia far more than you could do by yourself. Thanks, and have a great day of editing! Jacona (talk) 12:27, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

Actually, that is what happened. I took it to the talk page... There is no policy violation against reverting an edit for the first (at least that I am aware of) and its part of the WP:BRD cycle. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 13:30, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
Walter is the problem. I wish admin would figure this out for once and block him. He's gotten away with allot. And edit summaries are not to be used for personal messages to other editors like WG does. They're for explaining the edit. He uses it as a message board with personal attacks and belittling remarks. He's revert crazy and needs to be stopped! Just recently he was warned yet he continues. He's gotten away with reports of 3RR and other violations (including hounding/stalking, ownership of articles, being a Wiki "dick", harassment, sock puppetry, etc.) with no warning and/or blocks. Everyone else is treated as the problem. He only ruins articles with "maintenance fixes" that discourage new users, IPs and veteran editors. He needs to be watched. I'm keeping track of it all and one day it's my wish he's gone from Wikipedia for good. He has what I call "OJ syndrome". He commits violations (may or may not get away with it) then thinks he's invincible and relapses. 2600:1702:1690:E10:641F:547B:3380:7FC0 (talk) 22:44, 13 June 2018 (UTC)

This is absolute nonsense - of course the person removing the PROD can add it back if they've made a mistake. I'm taking it to AFD. GiantSnowman 06:45, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

I don't see anything of the like at WP:PROD. "Any editor (including the article's creator or the file's uploader) may object to the deletion by simply removing the tag; this action permanently cancels the proposed deletion via PROD." Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:34, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Canadian Premier League

Hello, could you please elaborate on this edit to Canadian Premier League beyond "WP:FLAG". I believe the use of flags may be appropriate. Thanks, BLAIXX 15:31, 2 July 2018 (UTC)

[1] Coaches are not representing their country in the CPL. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 18:41, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
That section you linked in not an exhaustive list of the only places flags are appropriate. Flags are common next to players in roster tables like this one, even though players do not represent their countries in the NHL or other leagues. BLAIXX 19:00, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
Yes but the criteria clearly states "when representing country". In this case, coaches of club teams are not representing their country, which is the reason why the flags are not necessary. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 19:19, 2 July 2018 (UTC)
As already stated, that's not the only circumstance where flags can be used, it's just an example of where a flag would make sense. Flags are used for players and coaches for soccer teams across wikipedia, even though they are not strictly "representing country" when playing or coaching for their club. MOS:FLAG does actually specifically mention sportspersons in MOS:SPORTFLAGS, and provides guidelines for which flag to put beside a sportsperson, obviously including contexts where they are not strictly representing their country (as it would be fairly obvious which flag to use for a member of, say, the Canadian national soccer team when representing Canada in a competition). 2020 Olympic Qualification

Just so you know, Brazil has qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics too, in women's football (soccer). So it's not just the host Japan. I'm still not sure that two countries qualified is sufficient for a table, but it's incorrect to say that only the host has qualified. Smartyllama (talk) 12:36, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

US Virgin Islands and French Polynesia

Hi Sportsfan, our article is United States Virgin Islands. This can be shortened to US Virgin Islands, as is the case here, however there is absolutely no need to write USA after either the long or short form. It's not part of the official name, redundant with the US in the name, and would be condescending to our readers. Same applies to "French Polynesia, France" [sic] as you insisted here the name should be. French Polynesia, not "French Polynesia, France" [sic] is our article name. Best, gidonb (talk) 03:32, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Why did you take out USA qualifying in women's gymnastics? The FIG's chart says seven countries qualify from Junior Pan American Championships PLUS the host country Argentina. Also when I added some information about Sri Lanka's history at youth Olympics you reverted it.So you deserve to get blocked not me.As far as the citations and references are considered I give it to the other editors to add via the totallympics forum. Flydon Melrick Picardo (talk) 08:06, 6 July 2018 (UTC)

Why did you revert the universality places which had a reference??? Flydon Melrick Picardo (talk) 14:32, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Which sport? If there is a reference and it was reverted, then it was a clear mistake. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:47, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

The Amazing Race Canada 6

You have yet to explain why including the pitstart locations constitutes disruptive editing. "Per [1] 'Plot sections should summarize [], but not offer a scene-by-scene sequence of everything that happens, or attempt to evaluate, interpret or analyze it.'" Teams are not starting in the same place that they finished the leg, so that is a summarization. I'm not asking to include the nearby parking lot where teams drove their trucks to Dawson City Airport, that would be considered a scene-by-scene sequence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Xoruz (talkcontribs) 03:40, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

There is absolutely zero mention of where teams start. Therefore, its a clear "attempt to evaluate, interpret or analyze" where teams started. Its inappropriate to include. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:42, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Numerous pitsarts are never mentioned. The Siam@Siam Design Hotel during TARC 5 leg 6, Africa Unity Square on TAR 30 leg 9, and the Falcon statue on TAR 30 leg 10 to name 3 recent examples. Xoruz (talk) 03:45, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
Because other things exist is not a valid argument. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:47, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
So why are they included? Phil hasn't narrated the beginning of the legs since TAR 25. Since there is no mention, by your logic, all pitstarts on the TAR 26-30 WPs should be deleted. Xoruz (talk) 03:51, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

Perfect verb forms

Hi Sportsfan 1234,

You're removing the perfect verb forms in the NOC articles, especially sailing. I don't understand what you're doing. You said after the Games. Are you referring to Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo? The next Games has not started yet. Raymarcbadz (talk) 18:03, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:13, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

Gymnastics at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics

Hello. I see you reverted my edit mentioning names are not important. According to whom, exactly? If you look at the article Gymnastics at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics you will see that the names are mentioned instead of just the country of origin. Of course it will be a lot easier to add the names once nominative registrations are out, but you can't rule out an edit based on what you think is important or not. Please reach consensus first. -- ThiagoSimoes (talk) 01:29, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Is there a reason you keep removing the category Canadian people of Togolese descent from the Félix Auger-Aliassime article? He's Canadian, and his dad's from Togo so he's of Togolese descent. I don't see what the problem is. Smartyllama (talk) 16:55, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

Venezuela at the 2019 Pan American Games

I do not understand why I receive a notification of "disruptive", when I add verified information, with references, and in accordance with the time limits established by Panam Sports in the Qualification System Manual for Lima 2019 [5]. For swimming I only added the open water quotas, and I do not understand why remove the tables that include the results of the athletes, which are empty to be filled during the competition. So before erasing all the work and effort of the other Wikipedia contributors, first investigate and confirm the information.

Your edits are disruptive if you are adding information that is not confirmed. Diving doesn't finish till the 15th of April (or later). Your swimming tables are incorrectly formatted and you cannot add athlete names until a team is announced. There is no source on that as teams aren't announced later. Please do some research and please explore other related articles before editing and making formatting mistakes. I am not here to clean up your mess. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 16:12, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Really?? and now?? I used references for water polo of the Venezuelan Olympic Committee, I used the same tables of the page of United States at the 2019 Pan American Games for bowling, for the cycling qualification the reference of the Cycling at the 2019 Pan American Games – Qualification This is personal. Why do you bother what I do? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Javierosendo (talkcontribs) 18:43, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Nations at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival

Can you please give a bit more in depth explanation why did you marked page Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 2019 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival as not notable and redirected it to the main page? --HamoPipa0609 (talk) 23:18, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Per past precedence, it has been determined individual country articles for the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival are not notable. Please see [6] and [7] for examples of previous discussions. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:27, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Understood, thank you for the explanation. --HamoPipa0609 (talk) 23:36, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
Just one more question. After looking at those discussions, I have one more question. Why are there still articles about nations at eg. 2016 Winter Youth Olympics? Vast majority of those articles do not have any references and are statistical lists of "not notable athletes". --HamoPipa0609 (talk) 23:47, 9 February 2019 (UTC)
In my opinion they should be deleted, but per WP:OLYMPICS they are automatically assumed as notable. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 23:50, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Canoeing at the 2019 Pan American Games – Qualification

Sportsfan 1234 I do not understand why it reverts the changes of Canoe - Sprint Quota Distribution, if they are in accordance with what was published by COPAC on June 5, being COPAC the authorized Continental Association to distribute the Quota positions for Canoe Sprint for the Pan Am Games. So I do not understand the eagerness to eliminate the efforts made by Wikipedia contributors, if the information is official and approved by the governing body. Double legs are 2 legs back to back with no Pit-stop in-between

One freak-in minute later you've reverted the edit I don't even know how that's possible. Counting legs 6 and 7 all as leg 6 and all the later legs 1 number lower is confusing when 2 legs occurred in the length of what has been labeled "leg 6". Yes it's true there was no Pit stop however two legs happened between the previous and next Pit stops not just 1, in fact a Fast Forward was given out in the 2nd portion of these back 2 back legs as no leg gives a fast forward after it's half over! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aceee1 (talkcontribs) 04:11, 9 July 2019 (UTC)

Tennis at the 2019 Pan American Games – Qualification

Hi mate. I'm trying to understand why I'm trying to understand why you deleted the page I wrote. That was hard work, and my intention was just to contribute to the community, and to myself, because I want to follow the competition. You could have talked to me before you removed it if it were badly written, with incorrect information, and yet I don't think so. I'm a newbie and I don't know how the most active publishers handle this kind of issue, but I'm sure deleting all content without prompting is not the best option. Wikipedia is a Free Encyclopedia, so I hope that especially new users will enjoy this freedom. Remember, I don't know if your intention is to try to monopolize the articles on that topic, and I hope to solve it in a friendly way, seeking a more pleasant and richer community. Nigeria U20 women football team

Before you revert an edit at least know what you are reverting. You reverted to an edit that deleted the write up that gave a detailed explanation on the Nigerian national u-20 Team -Its primary role is the development of players in preparation for the senior women's national team. The team competes in a variety of competitions, including the biennial FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup and African U-20 Cup of Nations for Women , which is the top competitions for this age group. What is wrong with this that needed to be removed? Please tell me? You reverted to an edit that also deleted the African U-20 Cup of Nations for Women section which is the the equivalent to UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship how is this information not useful because they are included on the European counties pages. Why remove the equivalent tournament on the Africa continent on an African page. You also reverted to an edit that deleted Qualified for the World Cup under the achievements section. It is the achievement because it is the highest level of competition for the U-20 women team on the Africa continent just like South American U-20 Women's Championship and UEFA Women's Under-19 Championship is for South America and Europe so its is an achievement. Lastly you deleted the graphics if you don't know the graphic is commonly used on pages of African football teams so it should not be removed. How is any of the information I stated not usesful? lets have a discusiion. The editor that started this whole thing as actually agreed with me so give me your reasons why you disagree.OmoYoruba45 (talk) 00:50, 17 September 2019 (UTC)
