WTDR

Get ready for a change on WTDR. They have announced what is being speculated to be a format flip for January 5. They are currently running a promo saying they are about to become a "thing of the past." More details to you as they become available. Arob22 (talk) 03:25, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

More information for you. From their website: "January 5, 2009, 7 AM, this station becomes a thing of the past". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arob22 (talkcontribs) 02:33, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Wacky fun. Thanks for keeping track of this situation. - Dravecky (talk) 02:36, 29 December 2008 (UTC)

KUZZ History

I put the old history in my sandbox, or copied it in there, if that's O.K., so I can rewrite it up. The new history section for KUZZ will be more about 107.9 than AM 55, if that's o.k. The other one, if you agree was too long also. I've been wanting that off anyway to rewrite.--JoeCool950 (talk) 00:49, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK rotation / Q4?

I know you've had a busy day and I'm so glad you were able to keep DYK running while so many folks, myself included, were very much out of pocket. There's no rush since it won't come up in rotation for about 10 hours from now but was there a specific reason you moved the Next Update hooks to queue 1 instead of queue 4? I appears that queue 4 should have been the next one filled. Oh, and happy new year! - Dravecky (talk) 12:15, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Don't know how you worked that out. The next two updates in line are for queues 2 and 3, which both have the last remaining New Year's Eve hooks. There are no updates at all ready in 4 and 5. Gatoclass (talk) 12:26, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Right, the current set on the main page was in queue 1 so the next set will load from queue 2. Then it'll load from queue 3, then 4, then 5, then 1 again so I would have expected that with 2 and 3 full and 4, 5, and 1 empty that you would have moved the latest set of hooks assembled in Next Update to queue 4 so they'd come up right after queue 3. - Dravecky (talk) 12:31, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, okay, I see what you mean. What happened is that I manually bumped past queue #1 because the bot stopped working. Then I guess I copied the next update hooks into queue 1 instead of queue 4. Not sure why I did that, but I'd swear queue 1 was the only available slot at the time, perhaps I was getting confused with another time, because the queue has been chock full for the last few days. But yes, you are right, that update should have gone to queue 4 :) Gatoclass (talk) 12:48, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries. Just wanted to be sure. Thanks again for all your hard work. - Dravecky (talk) 12:52, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Anyhow, all fixed now. Thanks for pointing that out :) Gatoclass (talk) 12:52, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Would you take care of File:Elizabeth II greets NASA GSFC employees, May 8, 2007 edit.jpg. I'm short on time and I don't understand what needs to be done with it since its a FP. Royalbroil 00:27, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Please ensure that images are correctly protected before placing them on the main page

Thank you for updating template:did you know. However, when placing images such as File:Moet and glass.jpg on the main page [1], it is necessary to ensure that they are either uploaded locally or protected at the commons, as instructed in the edit window for Template:Did you know/Next update. Otherwise, vandals can replace the images with disgusting shock-site fare while they are displayed on the main page itself. Thanks. John254 01:31, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that. I'm normally more religious about such things but missed it in the rush to get the hours-overdue update on the main page. I'll go ahead and fix the upcoming images while I'm thinking about it. - Dravecky (talk) 01:39, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey, thank you for your work doing the updates for T:DYK. Can you please take a look at this hook under 27 December at T:TDYK? I feel that the initial hook is the best wording, and otherwise everything else checks out fine as far as DYK criteria - just no one has bothered to slap the Verified symbol on it yet. Thank you for your time, Cirt (talk) 04:38, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, your proposed ALT hook is an acceptable compromise. Cirt (talk) 09:14, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Happy to help out. Now, of course, somebody else has to verify my hook. - Dravecky (talk) 09:17, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

WPPJ

I commented to your "Delete" post on the WPPJ AfD. - NeutralHomerTalk • January 3, 2009 @ 01:36

I don't much approve of linking book references to Google books, the ref is to the book, not Google. In any case, it is not necessary as the ISBN number is autolinked to a number of databases, including Google books. I realise that DYK has special needs, so would you be ok with me undoing that after DYK has finished with it? SpinningSpark 17:41, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Question

The KUZZ History is rewritten. Don't want to put it up yet. Was wondering if you'll go to my sandbox and proof read it, before putting it up. It now looks like it's not word for word. Let me know below the rewritten history if it's o.k. to put up. If so, then I'll put it up tonight. Thanks.--JoeCool950 (talk) 21:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

I can tell you've been busy, but just need you to proofread it on my sandbox, before I put it on the KUZZ article. Don't want to put it up, and then have conflicts or anything. If it looks good to you, or better than it did, then I'll put it up. Is it still o.k. to use the reference down there on the bottom of the artcle. I'll up the reflist up on my sandbox, so that will open up also. Thanks. Just when you get a chance, proofread it.--JoeCool950 (talk) 02:41, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for such a quick assessment of the article that I created. I've been wondering how one gets involved in helping at DYK - as it is a place I often visit. If you could point me in the right direction, I'd be appreciative, as I would like to help out. Law shoot! 10:59, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

WTDR Format Flip

At 7:10 AM on Monday, January 5, WTDR flipped formats to classic country, while retaining their station name. Arob22 (talk) 13:30, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Fun! I've made the appropriate initial updates to the article. - Dravecky (talk) 14:21, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for keeping this in sync, however at the next update interval, please allow the bot one hour to do its update. (I will be watching it trying to figure why it won't do it) I am trying to figure out why the bot won't run, it thinks it has no need to update when I run it. —— nixeagle 15:31, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

How very odd. I'll most likely be away during the next update but I'm eager to hear of a positive outcome. - Dravecky (talk) 15:33, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

A Note re. Elizabeth Cheney page

Hi, just a quick note to ask you to look at the edit I just made to the Elizabeth Cheney page... see if it violates any rules. Basically I took the info about her professional lecturing that was apparently posted by someone at that agency, and I incorporated it into the narrative of her career, and sourced it to the only sourch I can find on it, which is the speakers roster of her agency. If I can find another more neutral source, will resource it later. For now, I think it's important to have that info included, but if you think the source is unsuitable, feel free to delete. Thanks...Phoebe13 (talk) 21:06, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

I've removed the more promotional aspects of the entry and done a bit of light cleanup on the article. - Dravecky (talk) 21:55, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the help. I listed those other names as a way of showing the (surprisingly to me) non-partisan aspects of the agency; I can see how it might look promotional to a reader, though.138.237.128.86 (talk) 19:53, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK question

STOP

Whatever bot you are running as an IP is currently posting multiple DYK notices on talk pages; I've gotten 5 for the same article in the last few minutes. Karanacs (talk) 21:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I am running no bot. DYKadminbot is being run by Nixeagle. - Dravecky (talk) 00:55, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
Sorry! Your name was on the talk page messages, and the bot was running as an IP so it took a while to track it down. I eventually did figure out to contact Nixeagle. I apologize if I offended - your work at DYK is greatly appreciated. Karanacs (talk) 15:34, 7 January 2009 (UTC)
No offense taken, I just wanted to be sure you knew who to contact in case the bot went off its meds again. - Dravecky (talk) 17:18, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Gosh, Dravecky

You must be even more excited about my DYK than I am. I am getting notifications every five minutes, and am up to five thus far. - Georgejdorner (talk) 21:47, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

I've blocked the IP address that is hosting the bot for now. Dravecky, please disable this and fix the bot. Karanacs (talk) 21:54, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK for WLVV

Multiple articles

Thanks for your comment. I added the hook to the suggestion page. Would you kindly check it? These are really nice articles (if I do say so myself), and it would be a shame for them to miss DYK through my technical blunder. The creators are User:Tim riley and myself. -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:48, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Information about WSYA and the launch have been removed completely from its website. All that remains is a banner picture that alternates with an outdated banner from the WTDR format flip. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Arob22 (talkcontribs) 05:50, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

There is still this note... "We're still working on it, but our new website will greatly enhance your online experience with Thunder 92-7 or our new station coming soon, WSYA "Sunny 104.3"." ...so maybe it's not completely dead. At any rate it's frustrating and I appreciate your attention to this developing situation. - Dravecky (talk) 02:41, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Credits

Are you going to do the credits for the latest update, or do you want me to do it? Either way it is fine with me. --BorgQueen (talk) 08:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

No, I'll do 'em. You beat me to doing the actual update by about a minute. - Dravecky (talk) 08:41, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK copy edit

Dravecky, I noticed an odd error of phrasing in one of the next DYK tags, but only an admin can edit it (since it's in the queue somewhere). It's the one informing us "... that sprint canoer Thomas Zereske's life was dedicated by his former teammate Christian Gille's gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in the C-2 1000 m event?" "Dedicated by" should be "honored by" or "memorialized in," or something similar. It looks like it was originally phrased to say that the medal was dedicated ty Zereske, but someone switched the order to put Zereske's name first, losing the meaning. I'm posting it on your talk since I know you often work on DYK. Thanks. --Amble (talk) 23:52, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

I'll take a look at it, thanks. - Dravecky (talk) 00:31, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, that's better. --Amble (talk) 19:34, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Franciacorta (wine) hook

Perhaps I am missing something but the hook I selected was the one that didn't have a line struck through it. I assumed that hook was fine since the only other hook offered was struck out.Nrswanson (talk) 01:46, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I see now in looking at the history that the struck hook was identical to the one up top that was not struck. [2] You therefore gave a DYK approval tick without a usable hook. That's really not a good idea. That symbol should only be used when there is a usable hook along with a verified article length, refs. ,etc.Nrswanson (talk) 01:51, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Not quite identical. The discussion was over the name of the wine and the struck hook includes (inaccurately, as it turns out) a "Pinot di" that the unstruck hook does not. - Dravecky (talk) 01:53, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the DYK

Thanks for the DYk on the Thomas Zereske article. I really appreciated it. Chris (talk) 15:12, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

What, precisely, would you like to see here (at Agrarian Party of Moldova) to alleviate your concerns? In the last paragraph, we have the "Two main reasons..." sentence, with the second part of that explaining that the threesome's disputes, centred around the '96 election and detailed in the previous paragraph, helped wipe out the party. And it's all source-based and cited, of course. - Biruitorul Talk 15:44, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I've suggested an alt hook that hews a bit more closely to the sentence you reference with a little grammar tweaking as well. - Dravecky (talk) 19:12, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
I appreciate that, and do hope it secures approval. - Biruitorul Talk 19:45, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

WGSP

Just noticed your disambiguation page. I'm relieved there were no important links to it.

But both stations are in Charlotte. The FM is the only one licensed to Pageland, but that's just a technicality. It was simple to fix. Since I went through the search box, I did see it.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 21:52, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

No worries. Sorry for the typo but glad you found the dab page. - Dravecky (talk) 04:10, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

I must contest the hook of the article on the criminal in the Template:Did you know/Queue/2 that you've approved[3] because this is seriously mispresenting general views toward him in South Korea as if he were a hero becoming a thief to save the poor.

that South Korean fugitive and Robin Hood figure Sin Chang-won was first arrested at the age of 15, after being turned in by his father for the theft of a watermelon?

The hook is "selectively chosen" to attract attentions, but his fame is not for his charity in a few times (I did not even know that until reading it), but for his endless evasions from the police's sleuthing. This news would be rebuttal for the wrong label.

looking into sources that the author used, I see only Reuter labeled as such. Moreover, this hook was too quickly undated to the queue section without getting more opinion compared to other older entries which were created before Jan. 8. I think this hook should be taken out for discussion. Thanks.--Caspian blue 23:16, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm seriously disappointed by your blatant disregard about this request!!! The hook obviously has been contested, but you just ignore this. You like the hook so much, so quickly moved it to be featured unlike usual pace for DYK. --Caspian blue 02:47, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Caspian, please reconsider this. Dravecky is doing a great job keeping up with DYK by hand, and he deserves our thanks. --Amble (talk) 03:59, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
I recommend to check the "time stamp"--Caspian blue 04:11, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Like I said on the DYK talk page, I did not see your objection until after I completed the three-hour overdue update. I have now spent nearly an hour unwinding the promotion of this hook per your objection. Please discuss the merits of the article on the article's talk page and the merits of the hook on the Suggestions page. - Dravecky (talk) 04:06, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
Amble and Dravecky, please note that the right above comment was written after you updated the DYK with the queue. My frustration was deeply reflected at that time.--Caspian blue 04:11, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Missing articles

Just wanted to let you know that I've made some nice progress on the list of missing radio station articles. I've done a station-by-station walk through the FCC's AM database and added everything else that's missing for AM stations, along with finding a bunch of questionable redirects, creating new dab pages, and moving a whack of pages that changed call signs. It's actually turning into a much longer list than I expected. I've also started another section at the bottom to keep track of existing articles that don't have infoboxes.

Now onto the FM stations… Mlaffs (talk) 01:02, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Awesome! I've gotten sucked into the world of DYK which is fun but I'm really, really missing the DYKadminbot that normally updates the front page every six hours. Without it, there's a lot of manual work that has to be done and it's totally killed my content creation time. - Dravecky (talk) 04:08, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for the notice. I hope I answered all the questions on Wyatt Tee Walker. Thanks for your reviews.--Parkwells (talk) 12:55, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

The count is the characters of readable prose text, not the byte count of the article as a whole, so infoboxes and lists don't count towards the total. - Dravecky (talk) 01:07, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Argh. My article work the past several weeks has dropped to practically zero because of DYK, the failure of the DYKadminbot, and some drama that saw a number of the previous DYK regulars retire. If I jump into this too then my already moderate wiki-stress will escalate out of control. I'll happily support you in whatever way you feel you need to proceed with this but I simply can't afford the time or chunks of my soul that getting directly involved would require. (There is hope that the bot will be healthy again sometime today but I've heard that a couple of times now already.) - Dravecky (talk) 07:37, 14 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries — mostly just wanted to drop you an FYI. Mlaffs (talk) 21:07, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure that it's actually directly related to the case at hand but, if this were a '30s radio drama, I think this would be where they cue the "bum bum bum" music. Mlaffs (talk) 16:40, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for getting in touch. I fixed the citation templates. GaryColemanFan (talk) 15:11, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Quick DYK question

I've been working on the Icos article for a few days now and today I glanced over the DYK rules. I thought that there wasn't a time limit on expansions for articles being nominated to DYK. But now I noticed in the DYK rules it says that expansions should be completed within 5 days. How strict is this? Is it exactly 120 hours, or is it more flexible? I can get Icos to 4x within an hour or two, but 5x will take at least another day. Is this enough? Thanks! Shubinator (talk) 04:56, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick reply. To clarify: flexible with the size, the time, or both? I would rather take it to 4x instead of 5x, because 5x will be stretching the material to its limits. I plan on keeping up the quality I've put into it so far. There are few sentences that aren't cited. After the expansion I hope to get it nominated for something (GA, A, or FA). Shubinator (talk) 05:30, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Whoops, wrong talk page. (I asked Daniel Case about DYK since it seems you're not here at the moment.) Shubinator (talk) 05:34, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries. Daniel is right about the flexibility on time but from what I've observed the expansion question is a bit more rigid. There are exceptions, of course, but 5x expansion is fairly strictly observed unless the sub-5x expansion is extraordinary. - Dravecky (talk) 07:29, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the DYK banner - small matter and probably not important in the grand scheme of things, but I created Harry Keith, not Rafflesia keithii! Cheers Jasper33 (talk) 13:18, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Oops, whoever assembled the queue setup up the templates for the credits incorrectly. I've fixed the credit tags on both your talk page and the article's talk page. Thanks for creating such an interesting article. - Dravecky (talk) 13:25, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you. As a novice editor, it is really fun to see a fact from an article appear in DYK. --Wpwatchdog (talk) 22:17, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Do not manually update, and make sure the bot knows which queue to pull from

Please do not manually update, I'm going to give the bot another go. As I said on WT:DYK, the reason for this delay is the bot was editing logged out causing a mess. I think I resolved that issue. —— nixeagle 12:36, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Fingers are crossed on this end. User:DYKadminBot/count is up to date after Gatoclass performed the last manual update. "Good luck, we're all counting on you." - Dravecky (talk) 12:40, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Oh, and just so you know, the template alert has been set to five hours but the file that controls when the bot is supposed to do the update has not. I moved the alert to five hours in the hopes of getting an update in less than six hours as on manual the timing had gotten out of whack. - Dravecky (talk) 12:42, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Right, I noticed that, and I moved the template back to 6 hours to prevent someone from thinking the bot was an hour late (and then manually archiving). :P —— nixeagle 16:51, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Yey! it ran!. —— nixeagle 17:23, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Should the picture from the DYK proposal always be used?

E.g., the one given in the entry for Outliers (book) is of little usefulness and looks bad as thumbnail. Xasodfuih (talk) 15:58, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

No, if you can find a better free image, use it. Also, many hooks that are proposed with images get promoted without images since we can only promote four images each day. - Dravecky (talk) 16:04, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

Template:Did you know/Queue/1 requested changes: Pundalik entry

  • Current: "... that according to Hindu mythology, the devotee Pundalik kept Krishna waiting because he was busy serving his parents?"
  • Proposed Change: "... that according to Hindu mythology, the devotee Pundalik kept god Krishna waiting because he was busy serving his parents?"
  • Nominated (Proposed change 2): "... that according to Hindu mythology, the devotee Pundalik kept God waiting because he was busy serving his parents?"
Please add "god" before Krishna, as non-Hindus may not know who Krishna is? Also, instead of linking Krishna to article Krishna, it should be linked to Vithoba, a regional form of Krishna, as Pundalik is integral part of the Vithoba legend, NOT of Krishna's (original form). For more info. Also, the nominated hook is also added, only God gives a fair idea to a non-Hindu, for whom the name Vithoba or Krishna may be alien. --Redtigerxyz Talk 04:50, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
The first change is easy because it's supported by the article and Krishna is a Hindu god. As a non-Hindu, I've heard of Krishna but I do understand the desire for clarification. However, the article clearly says "Krishna" as distinct from earlier paragraphs where "Vithoba" is specified in the legends. - Dravecky (talk) 05:32, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
There may many who have never heard of Krishna and may not know he is a god.
Vithoba: "After completing his services, Pundalik asked that his Lord, in Vithoba form, remain on the brick with Rukmini, in Rakhumai form, and bless his devotees forever." "The description of Krishna resembles the characteristics of the Pandharpur image of Vithoba." Quoting the sentences that refer to Vithoba. Krishna is his traditional form is never associated with Pundalik, it is the regional form of Vithoba, who is. --Redtigerxyz Talk 06:17, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
I've clarified that Krishna is a god in the hook now in queue 1 but am still confused by the article as it says "Then Krishna visited Pundalik and found Pundalik serving his parents. Pundalik threw a brick outside for Krishna to stand on. Krishna stood on the brick and waited for Pundalik." I do see the part about "in Vithoba form" but as written it sounds like a change that happens after Krishna is made to wait. I freely admit I know nothing of this legend but it is the article as written that is the source of my confusion. The article on Vithoba doesn't clear up my confusion, I'm afraid. - Dravecky (talk) 07:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
The form of Krishna waiting on the brick is Vithoba, see Iconography section of Vithoba as well as Identifications for more. Thanks for the change. --Redtigerxyz Talk 12:52, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

I took my first pass at Bob May (actor), as promised. From the last edit, it's now just over 4x expansion, but I'm sure there's more material out there. There are plenty of great hooks, and if I could only get a picture, it would be perfect. Let me know if I missed anything or if there are any sources that should be integrated into the article. Alansohn (talk) 23:21, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Some useful info can be mined from his official homepage. There are a variety of obits here plus other articles of interest here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. Bot cycle speed

Dravecky, did you speed up the bot cycle? I know you were talking about it, but I don't know if you actually got around to doing it. If you haven't done so yet, I suggest you put it on a five hour cycle as it puts less pressure on updaters, but if you'd prefer to put it on a shorter cycle it's up to you. Gatoclass (talk) 10:24, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

I didn't yet, no, but I will do so. I think five hours should be sufficient for now. - Dravecky (talk) 15:25, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

DYK question

You threw two DYK credits on my talk page, but both were for 1998 Gator Bowl. Was one supposed to be for Rampart Dam, which also recently had a DYK featured? JKBrooks85 (talk) 09:22, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

(copy)My apologies for the error. Now that the DYKadmin bot is working again, the credits are handed out automatically by the bot but signed with the name of the admin that assembled and promoted the queue of hooks, which in this case was me. Due to a quirk in the bot's programming, if one person has more than one credit coming in a queue then the admin must place an extra space after the person's name on the second hook (and two spaces after the third, etc.) to trick the bot into thinking they are different editors or else it hands out the same credit twice, as you experienced. Again, my apologies and I promise extra vigilance in the future. - Dravecky (talk) 12:24, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know! I just thought it was odd, and wanted to make sure nothing was broken. Thanks again! JKBrooks85 (talk) 21:33, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Hook count

I see we're back to 188 hooks already. I think we should probably switch back to a six hour cycle when it dips below 180. Gatoclass (talk) 14:00, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

We've been on a de facto 5:50 rotation for a few days now. I've left nixeagle a note on the subject of the bot and timing. In any event, what we really need is more folks reviewing hooks, not slower rotation. As it is, we still have 193 hooks but only 22 apparently approved, with 5 full queues. Maybe if it drops below 150 it will be time to actually slow the bot down a bit. - Dravecky (talk) 23:08, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Expiring noms

Please use the older articles first. While more recent articles are on the DYK Queue, older ones go stale when they would make fine entries. I don't know how experienced you are, but if you didn't know, it's actually common practice to use expiring noms when they're only slightly (1-2) days out of date. Mgm|(talk) 13:09, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

If you'll examine the last several dozen queues I've constructed, you'll see that I pull almost exclusively from the expiring noms and only venture into the newer noms if I can't find that final jigsaw piece to build a properly balanced queue. - Dravecky (talk) 13:12, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
They don't "go stale" Mgm, they are all promoted if they are properly verified, so you don't have to worry about your hook being overlooked. Gatoclass (talk) 13:26, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
  • In that case I probably stumbled across a single exception or something. Thanks for the clarification to both of you. - Mgm|(talk) 13:38, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm surprised you still found so many errors in there. Thanks for fixing them. - Mgm|(talk) 13:51, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Chesley Sullenberger

Dear Dravecky, Thank you for moving the DYK nom of Chesley Sullenberger for update. I noticed that I have not been included in the credits for the relevant hook. I don't mean to be come across as arrogant; I just thought that since I have contributed the most edits to the article, and because I nominated the article for DYK, that I would also receive DYK credit. If I am wrong, my apologies for troubling you. Terrakyte (talk) 13:52, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

You are listed as the nominator for the Chesley Sullenberger hook, as per the original credits templates created when you nominated the original hook. (See the "nom credit" under the list of Chesley Sullenberger "make" credits.) If you would prefer a DYKmake credit instead of a DYKnom credit, I would be happy to change that for you. - Dravecky (talk) 14:45, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Whoops, sorry that I complained about not being credited. If that is ok, I would like the credit to be changed from nom to make. Terrakyte (talk) 14:50, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
No worries. The way the templates are displayed, it can be easy to overlook. - Dravecky (talk) 14:53, 26 January 2009 (UTC)

Question on DYK noms for a deleted article that was resurrected

What was once gone is now back in double. The "black president" article was deleted (and it's DYK nom along with it), but now the article is back in the form of Black candidates for president of the United States and Black president in popular culture of the United States. I don't care about credit or anything (and I didn't create the original article) but I would like to nom them for DYK as I think they are interesting and timely. What do you suggest? The original nom was I think for Jan. 17 I think. Thanks. ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:44, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

The first article has been moved already (to Black presidential candidates in the United States) and both will require significant cleanup before they're ready to be featured on the front page. If you nominate one or both articles, be prepared for a spirited discussion about them. - Dravecky (talk) 08:18, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Procedure wise what date can I nominate them under? When they were put in article space? I welcome the discussion and edits. That's part of the beauty of brining attention to them. :) ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Based on the article history, both would be nominated under January 27th. - Dravecky (talk) 22:12, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Yes, for some unknown reason, the bot updated the main page then did it again 8 minutes later. So we've reset the queues and the next batch of hooks should be on the main page in about 4-5 hours. - Dravecky (talk) 09:52, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Dravecky. Could you fix the double "that" in the hook ("that that World Sculling Champion oarsman Joseph Sadler etc")? It's now in Queue 5. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:10, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

New DYK template for nominations

Hi,

I've been working, somewhat at Gatoclass's behest, to develop a new version of {{DYKsug}} that doesn't leave so much junk on the nominations page (partly just to be tidier, partly to reduce the page's byte count and, hopefully, its load time). The new template is complete and located at {{NewDYKnomination}} ({{NewDYKnom}} also works). It is used in almost the exact same way as the current template (the only difference being that |creator= and |expander= have been merged into a single |writer= parameter, since there seems to have been confusion in the past about the difference between these two); there is more discussion of the new template at Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#New template for nominations--please provide feedback if you have a moment and Wikipedia talk:Did you know/Archive 39#Working on a better nomination template.

Since you do a lot of work vetting nominations, you are one of the people who will be most affected by the template change (although the effect shouldn't be very big...the main difference is just that this template is less complicated and the format will look a bit different), so I am hoping to hear your thoughts before I go ahead with making the switch from the current system to this one. The links I provided above have permalinks to examples of what the template will look like when used; you are also free to experiment with it in a sandbox. Please let me know if you have any concerns.

Thank you, Politizer talk/contribs 15:53, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Oops, sorry...the old examples are bad, since I have made a change since then. Here is a new, better example (and here is what it looks like in the edit window). Politizer talk/contribs 16:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

16 article DYK

Thanks much for all the accolades of the 16 article hook DYK. That was a lot of work. So far, I have counted 14 (if I am correct) that I have received credit for. The other two on Clover Hill Tavern and Sweeney-Conner Cabin are probably coming soon, to make the total of 16. So far, the Woodson Law Office and Jones Law Office votes are leaning toward keep. I've increased the sizes of the articles about 50% and am currently researching them to expand further. --Doug Coldwell talk 23:06, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

No idea why the bot didn't credit you for those but I've just manually assigned the credit tags. The articles are a fine addition to the encyclopedia and I could see no reason why a weak content dispute should prevent otherwise qualified articles from being features, especially as WP:SNOW is almost certain for both discussions. - Dravecky (talk) 23:13, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. --Doug Coldwell talk 23:19, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
