Political Cesspool

I fixed all the refs for The Political Cesspool and came up with an alternate hook that does have a third-party source. Thanks for all your advice on this; I'm a relatively inexperienced WP user so I need all the help I can get. But I think the Cesspool article is ready to be re-considered for DYK now. Just a heads-up that I found out a couple of days ago that {{disambig}} now takes parameters. So, in the mixed-case situations like this one that you've just created, you can type {{disambig|callsign}}, and it'll both throw up the regular disambig template and drop it in the call sign category. Category Edits

I am a little confused on why you removed categories from this and other pages. In the linked case, WJYJ links to the WPER page hence the category link. I am confused as to why it was removed. - NeutralHomer • Talk • May 6, 2009 @ 06:15

Because multiple instances of the same category link don't do anything to the article except cause sorting errors. And any sorting parameter put on any category should match the actual article which it is sorting. So even if the article covers multiple stations, it only gets one geographical tag (per state) and should always reflect the callsign used to title the article. - Dravecky (talk) 06:20, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

No, because the article doesn't show up in the category for each identical category tag, only the last identical category tag. So if, as it was before, there's a tag for PER then one for JYJ, the WPER article shows up only one time... in the Js, not the Ps. - Dravecky (talk) 06:35, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

WFLX

Just wondering what you think about all of the user generated logos recently posted on WFLX by TRICKBAKER. They are all original work by this editor and I doubt every logo has ever made it on-air. There is no talk page for TRICKBAKER. Is there a template for welcoming someone to wikipedia? Are those logos appropriate? Strafidlo (talk) 19:10, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

There are a variety of such templates, but I prefer the simple {{welcome}} template. I've also left a note on TRICKBAKER's talk page asking for clarification. Upon examining the logos, they appear to be authentic station logos and, even if they are his work as a graphic artist, I doubt that he holds the copyright to the images. Infobox critique

Me again — I've just tried adding and filling in my first infobox, for KFFA (AM), and I'd be interested in getting your feedback on how I did if you'd be willing. I only have a few ticky-tacky notes here: the slogan should be put in quotation marks, I usually format the website address as [http://www.kffa.com kffa.com] so that only the "relevant" part of the url is displayed, and the airdate was given with a source in the body of the article so it could have been added to the infobox with no additional research tools. While I was there, I added a logo and touched up a few other things but as it stood your infobox was just fine with only a couple of essentially cosmetic touches missing. Thanks for lending a second set of eyes! Yeah, a logo … don't know if I feel like getting within 10 feet of image policy, but we'll see. I noticed that you added a space on each line after the pipe, and also removed the three lines related to share, as well as the 'erp' and 'haat' lines. I don't ever remember seeing the share lines filled in, so I'm guessing that they have essentially been deprecated and probably need to be stripped out of the infobox template, but I wasn't sure about the rest — personal preference, not applicable only for an AM station, or should they also be stripped from the template? The share lines are deprecated for U.S. stations because of Arbitron's policies but remain in the basic template because international stations may have ratings data from other sources. The ERP and HAAT lines apply only to FM stations just as the Power line applies only to AM stations. The space after the pipe is a personal cosmetic preference that makes zero difference to the displayed infobox. The logo thing is pretty painless—upload it as the logo of an organization, fill in the article, purpose (the template will say Org, replace with Infobox), and website lines, then choose the "Logo" license and you're all set. You should also edit the resulting text to add KFFA (or whatever complete call sign) for proper sorting. - Dravecky (talk) 14:25, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Because it's still under discussion. Hooks do not magically expire after 5 days—the rules require they be nominated within five days of creation/expansion but the discussion can last for several more days after that. - Dravecky (talk) 23:52, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Unreferenced info about living people

Hi! I should have explained this in the edit summary of the first edit. Anyway, I removed the block of text because it includes unreferenced information about living people - of course there are dead people in the text I removed, but there are also living people (i.e. Laura Miller) - The info should be referenced, with each person having a reference stating that he/she lived in PH. It helps to look at news.google.com to find refs for them.

If you wonder why I remove first, often it is the easiest, least time consuming way to make an article compliant with BLP. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:12, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Since this is not a biography and residence in this north Dallas neighborhood is hardly controversial, a few {{fact}} tags would betters serve your purpose. In the extreme, rather than an unexplained deletion, perhaps you could move the text in question to the talk page with a note laying out your reason for removing it from the article. It will be much easier for a motivated editor to find references for the text than to have to recreate it from whole cloth. - Dravecky (talk) 19:17, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Wikipedia:BLP covers information about any living person as mentioned in any article, not just articles about living people. The page says "This policy applies equally to biographies of living persons and to biographical material about living persons on other pages." - please keep this in mind. Indeed, and that text clearly refers to "Contentious material about living persons" with the key word being contentious. There is nothing contentious about the text in question so it can safely remain, properly tagged, without harm or policy violation. - Dravecky (talk) 19:40, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Some of the most seemingly mundane things about people can be contentious - Say, in a political campaing Politician Candidate A says that Candidate B lives in Preston Hollow as a way to smear B as being seen as "too rich" or something like that. Anyway, please take a look at Wikipedia_talk:Biographies_of_living_persons/Archive_21#Folks.2C_we_urgently_need_a_rule_for_.22Notable_people.22_lists_in_cities.27_articles.21

Because they are outside the biographical article space, other editors won't spot inconsistent or doubtful material, so they are a relatively undefended entry point for negligent or malicious errors. As BLP says "Material about living persons must be sourced very carefully. Very few editors are likely to check these lists to see who has been wrongly included, because "proving a negative" checking takes exceptional motivation.'
Therefore I would like for lists to have high quality sources. For every Preston Hollow resident, he or she needs a newspaper article, magazine, or other BLP verification that the person lives there. For every person who is said to have left the neighborhood, you need a source that says "X left Preston Hollow" WhisperToMe (talk) 19:51, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure - they may have been lost by various anon edits. Anyway, if you want Preston Hollow to get "Good Article" status see River Oaks, Houston an article about a similar neighborhood. Question

I've got a question. Would you mind proof-reading my sandbox. I'm going to put that edit on KVMX. According to my understanding from you fixed on KDFO, there's not suppose to be a bracket around the month, date, and year, correct? Just proof-read it and let me know if it looks good now. I'm going to put that revision history of KVMX that's in my sandbox on KVMX because KVMX has the same problem under history, just need you to see if everything in the sandbox looks correct now. Thanks. By the way, I didn't mess with your edit on KDFO. You can fix whatever needs to be fixed in the my sandbox, since that's going on the KVMX page under history. If you see KVMX, you can see why I'm fixing that. Definitely needs it. Thanks for fixing up KDFO. I did correct an error that was probably accident, it's on the bottom part of KDFO, I forget what it says, but when you changed BKO to DFO, you accidently put DFOO, I corrected it for you, that's the only thing. Thank you very much for supporting the DYK of William Windsor (goat).

I thought it interesting too, when I saw a mention on the BBC News (re. his retirement) the other day. As I wrote it a few hours ago, it appeared in more and more newspapers. It was in The Sun and the Dialy Mail today - UK's biggest 2 - and is also covered on MSNBC, Fox News and others. I think they like the pics.

Speaking of which, you said you'd added one, but I can't see that? I previously thought that File:RoyalRegimentWalesGoat gobeirne.jpg was him, but it's not, it is his predecessor. I haven't been able to source a pic - I've tried. It would definitely make the article much better; there are now some lovely pics in the external refs.

Dougweller does raise a good point that the notablity guidelines that have been linked in the AfDs haven't been touched since 2007. It might do some good to go in and revise them, update them, add the current precedent standing notablity guidelines (license = notable) and give the page a wholesale update. Hi Dravecky, I always edit the section only because obviously there'd be a lot of scrolling to do if I did otherwise! Additionally, the template for adding a DYK wikilinks the title automatically. Wait, I see where I went wrong now. Yes, I was editing the section only but deleted the edit summary that said I did so and replaced it with my own edit summary. The current template does not but some folks insist on doing a cut-n-paste nomination which often introduces formatting problems as they are incomplete, use deprecated code, or are simply wrong. Sorry its a bit late, I think I was busy with finals/my final paper when you hit 15. I had no idea there was that much info on these stations. In addition to the barnstar, we have the {{WPOR DYK gold}} service award for 15 as well. Then when you get to 50 there is the platinum, which should be easy with all the existing stubs for most of the stations. Great job and good luck. In other words, if I get "...that KXYZ and KOKO are made up Oregon radio stations for this example?" to the main page, does that count as 1 (for the hook) or 2 (for the articles)?
