St Michael and St George Cathedral[edit]

Regarding [1] - the St Michael and St George Cathedral - if you scroll down to Bells -> History, you'll notice the same sentence twice. So I reverted your revert, mkay?

Koos Kombuis[edit]

Hey Wayne, sorry for the misunderstanding, I was using the Fokofpolisiekar Discography as an example of a Discography, which didn't use the italics. But after looking at other examples you are definitely correct about the italics. I fixed up both articles.

I have never before today heard of Wikipedia:Write the article first, but thanks for the link, i've read it and will keep it in mind going forward. I have cleaned up the Koos Kombuis Discography and will re link them after finishing up the pages.

Thanks Johanvanl (talk) 20:58, 24 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you self-revert this edit and join the talkpage discussion instead. Also, take a look at WP:BLPSOURCES. The National Enquirer is not a reliable source... AusLondonder (talk) 22:12, 5 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am wondering why[edit]

you removed a large chunk of the Frederick Hart (sculptor) article? einar aka Carptrash (talk) 18:15, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe I deleted anything, I merely consolidated duplicated information. Wayne Jayes (talk) 20:45, 9 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. thanks. Carptrash (talk) 00:14, 10 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Guardian article I thought I would share this with you in case you hadn't seen it. ;-) No, I have no intention: but it could lead to an interesting themed wikimeetup --ClemRutter (talk) 19:30, 29 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Nudity in religion, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lazarus. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I have removed part of your addition to the above article, as it appears to have been directly copied from http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/1467-9809.00167, a copyright web page. All content you add to Wikipedia must be written in your own words. Removing citations containing dead links[edit]

[2] There are dozens of archival services besides Wayback. Also, the article likely can be found in commercial databases like ProQuest etc.. and even if not, the source is just offline in hardcopy form, which is still a valid cite. -- GreenC 14:53, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:Green Cardamom None of the archive services which I have access to (Google cache, archive.org, archive.is or coral web cache return a viable page, all return a some variation of a 404 error. All wikipedia references have to be verifiable, these web citations are not verifiable. I suggest you change them to refer to specific pages of the specific paper magazines (as I don't have them) and then re insert them in the article. They are quite useless at present. Wayne Jayes (talk) 16:02, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Of course they are verifiable. Did you try WP:REX? Your local library? ProQuest? It's just a magazine article you don't need page numbers. -- GreenC 16:24, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Never mind I see there is no information on article title so you're right there is no way to track it down without that. -- GreenC 16:33, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for starting the article. I'd thought about it, but was unsure as to her notability in WP terms - we'll see if others question it. Have you checked out the sources I added at the "So Long Marianne" page? Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:12, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 19[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Sidbury, Eastern Cape, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Diocese of Cape Town. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

We'd like to invite you to participate in a user study closely related to SuggestBot. User:Another Article is seeking to understand more about the workflow and time commitment of contributors to the English Wikipedia. As part of this study you will occasionally be prompted to answer questions about your editing activity, and these questions should never take more than a minute or two to complete. The intended length of the study is two weeks, but your actual time commitment is totally up to you. If you would like to see more details you can read the project proposal at Research:Measuring editor time commitment and workflow (on meta), but if you are feeling bold and would like just like to sign up right now you can add the line importScript("User:Another_Article/workflowstudyclient.js"); to your common.js. Contact User:Another Article if you have any questions about this study!

File permission problem with File:Archibald Howard Cullen.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Archibald Howard Cullen.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, BOT-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate your file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:01, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, Waynejayes. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What level are you?[edit]

I found your name at Category:User js (probably because you posted the corresponding userbox on your user page), in the level-unspecified list of JavaScript programmers.

I was wondering how experienced you are at JavaScript, and whether you might be interested in getting involved with developing user scripts, hobnobbing with other JavaScript programmers, and organizing and improving JavaScript articles and support pages.

We do all of that and more at the JavaScript WikiProject.

Scripts undergoing development, and the state of JavaScript on Wikipedia, are discussed on the talk page.

For an overview of JavaScript coverage on Wikipedia, see Draft:Outline of JavaScript and Index of JavaScript-related articles. For everything on user scripts, see User:The Transhumanist/Outline of scripts.

The WikiProject also organizes every resource it can find about JavaScript out there, such as articles, books, tutorials, etc. See our growing Reference library. If you know of any good ones, please add them.

If you would like to join the JavaScript WikiProject, feel free to add your name to the participants list.

Hope to see you there! The Transhumanist 16:51, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem on Hilton Schilder[edit]

Material you included in the above article appears to have been copied from the copyright web page http://www.marcocarnovale.com/2013/12/cape-town-tour-and-music.html. Changes to referecning[edit]

Hi Waynejayes! Could you please explain your changes to the system of referencing at Helen-Ann Hartley? I see from your contributions that you have also been changing <ref></ref> to sfn on some pages (such as Rolf Gardiner). What's the reasoning behind that too? Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 13:00, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

sfn has some advantages over <ref></ref>
  1. Provided you put ref=harv in the cite template wikipedia creates a hyperlink from the sfn to the cite templates which make checking references very easy.
  2. sfn takes up less space in the body of the article and makes it much easier to read when editing the source text of the article.
  3. It is much more logical to have all the text of the references at the bottom of the article rather than embedded in the article

I do try to avoid changing the referencing style where there is an existing consistent referencing system in an article, where there are mixed referencing styles, wikipedia policy does allow the changing of the mixed styles to a consistent style.Wayne Jayes (talk) 13:15, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. Using the example of Helen-Ann Hartley, you have changed an established reference style by moving the full references out of the main text. You may think the style you've introduced is better, but that is your personal preference. If you find an article's references are a mess of different styles or bare urls, feel free (and please do) clean them up to your preferred style. However, as per WP:CITEVAR: "Editors should not attempt to change an article's established citation style merely on the grounds of personal preference". Given your explanation, and your edits to some articles, this appears to be what you have been doing. As for ease of editing, that relies on someone understanding sfn templates which is not something that comes as default when editing Wikipedia. If you are annoyed by having the full references in the main text, can I suggest that you have a look at turning on the syntax highlighter where is found on the preferences page under Gadgets. I use this and find it helpful. As for the changes to references, I shall be reverting your changes to Helen-Ann Hartley, can I suggest you do the same to the other articles you have altered. Thank you for adding the publication to her article. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 17:57, 10 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

November 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, and thank you for your efforts to improve Wikipedia! However, you should know that it is not a good idea to remove citations or information sourced through citations simply because a link to a source is not working, as you did to Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Dead links should not be deleted. Instead, please repair or replace the link, if possible, and ensure properly sourced information is retained. Often, a live substitute link can be found. Links not used as references, notes or citations are not as important, such as those listed in the "External links" or "Further reading" sections, but bad links in those sections should also be fixed if possible. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 19:27, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:Gaia Octavia Agrippa, the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham article is very poorly sourced. I most definitely did not delete the links simply because they were not working, but because they were not working AND that they were not independent of the article. Wayne Jayes (talk) 21:04, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I see now; I couldn't understand your edit summary. While preferable, it is not required to use independent sources for simple facts as per WP:SELFSOURCE. The references you removed were supporting the names and years of the various priest administrators, which is acceptable. I didn't add them, an ip did, though I should have cleaned the up at the time. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 21:17, 25 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for December 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited 7 Medium Artillery Regiment, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Benoni (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 18:47, 14 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Andrew Buckland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://esat.sun.ac.za/index.php?title=Andrew_Buckland. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 12:33, 14 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Attribution of EB1911[edit]

With this edit in November 2017 you moved the EB1911 template out of sources. Please see the Where to place attribution section in the WP:PLAGIARISM guideline. The short citation link to the template is usually {{snf|Chisholm|1911|p=page num}} unless of course there is a named author for the article). If there is no longer any text copied from the EB1911 article in the Wikipedia article then there is no need for attribution and the template {{EB1911}} can be replaced with {{Cite EB1911}} and treated like any other source.

Most of EB1911 is now available at Wikisource:1911 Encyclopædia Britannica. To check if the Wikipedia article contains text copied from EB1911 you can use the Earwig's Copyvio Detector like this.

CrawfordSchools North Coast[edit]

Good day.

I work for a digital company and our client is CrawfordSchools. I see that you are the person editing the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crawford_College,_North_Coast. Please understand that my client is not happy with your representation of their brand name. The school is not called "Crawford College, North Coast" as it also has Preparatory and pre-primary. The school is simply called CrawfordSchools North Coast. This Wikipedia page is affecting our digital efforts mainly Google my business. We kindly request that you change the pages name to the correct one which is "CrawfordSchools North Coast".

Thank you in advanced

Moringa tea, First of all, I do not take kindly to the implied threat in your words, "Please understand that my client is not happy with your representation of their brand name". The wikidedia page in question is not the property of AdvTech and wikipedia editors, following the WP:Five pillars will continue to edit the page as they see fit.
Secondly please see WP:PROMOTION and WP:PAID, you appear to be in violation of wikipedia's terms of use as you have not disclosed you are earning a fee for editing the wikipedia page about Crawford College, North Coast.
Finally please see WP:COMMONNAME, the school is commonly known as Crawford College North Coast, and unless and until it is commonly known by some other name that is how it will be referred on wikipedia. Furthermore,I direct you to the company's own web page

"A warm welcome from Crawford College North Coast. We strive to nurture our students to become well-rounded, confident people. Our campus located in the sugarcane belt along the Dolphin Coast of KwaZulu-Natal provides a caring, friendly and inclusive environment in which we celebrate all our students’ achievements."

I apologise if my tone seemed threatening, I dd not mean to come across as a brut. but Crawford college North Coast is not the commonly known name and the page you have cited https://www.crawfordschools.co.za/north-coast-college and the main page for the school is actually https://www.crawfordschools.co.za/our-schools#NorthCoast and under that, there is also https://www.crawfordschools.co.za/north-coast-pre-primary and https://www.crawfordschools.co.za/north-coast-preparatory. Please give me a call or let me call you so I can discuss this with you as it is affecting the brand, with the understanding that we don't own Wikipedia this can help both of us come to a resolution

The other thing, I am not getting paid to edit the page, hence I am asking you to make the changes. I am an SEO manager, I get paid to optimise their website and their Google my business and I found that your page is affecting the job I am doing on Google my business. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Moringa tea (talkcontribs) 07:27, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

South African Class 5E1, Series 2[edit]

Re South African Class 5E1, Series 2 etc. I was wondering about this. This anomaly is the work of the late Andre Kritzinger and occurs in all articles about premetrication South African locomotives, be they electric, diesel and steam. Arminianism[edit]

Thank you for your nice work done on the references.

1. I saw that you have created note (with letters). I think it would be more readable without those notes, because the reader has to go now in 3 different points to understand the source.

2. In some cases, it would be more understandable to split the notes. For example, when I translated this article in French, I separated your current note "f" like that :

They formalized their views in "The Opinion of the Remonstrants" (1618)[1], and later in the The Arminian Confession (1621).[2]

  1. ^ DeJong, Peter (1968). "The Opinions of the Remonstrants (1618)". Crisis in the Reformed Churches: Essays in Commemoration of the Great Synod of Dordt, 1618-1619 (PDF). Grand Rapids: Reformed Fellowship. p. 220. Points three and four in the fifth article read: True believers can fall from true faith and can fall into such sins as cannot be consistent with true and justifying faith; not only is it possible for this to happen, but it even happens frequently. True believers are able to fall through their own fault into shameful and atrocious deeds, to persevere and to die in them; and therefore finally to fall and to perish.

Hi Wayne,
I noticed that you have used sfn in several articles dealing with arminianism. Thank you so much for your work! Personally, I identified articles linked with arminianisme here : Category_talk:Arminian_Christians, Category:Arminian_denominations, Category:Arminian_Christians. Still most of those articles need to be sourced regarding arminianism. Nevertheless among them are several articles that are quite sourced and those one can be "sfned". I don't know if you realize it but your work simplify the translation in other languages, since English articles are generally a reference for that business... On my side, I translate in French (300 Million of speakers). Thanks again. ---Telikalive (talk) 09:57, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hello To editor Waynejayes: Actually, I really think that John Wesley requires your sfn talented skills !
Besides I just want to let you know that I proposed "Arminianism" to be part of the vital articles of Wikipedia, Wikipedia_talk:Vital_articles/Level/4#Add_Arminianism, if you would like to vote... Regards. ---Telikalive (talk) 19:01, 29 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2019 election voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 on Monday, 2 December 2019. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

If you wish to participate in the 2019 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:15, 19 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'd just like to draw your attention to this edit from 2017, where you removed the {{1911}} in-text attributions and replaced them with inline citations. When text is copied from public domain sources, it needs to be attributed; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Public-domain sources for details. Thanks. Wikiacc () 23:51, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I see very little (if any) text copied from the Public Domain This article incorporates text from a publication now in the public domainChisholm, Hugh, ed. (1911). Encyclopædia Britannica (11th ed.). Cambridge University Press. {{cite encyclopedia}}: Missing or empty |title= (help) article into the wikipedia article, and so simple citations are sufficient. If whole chunks of text from the public domain source was copied into wikipedia article then you are correct it should be fully attribute, but I don't see that that is he case. Wayne Jayes (talk) 10:27, 21 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply – if you check the diff again, you can see the paragraphs in question (the ones where "eb1911-text" was changed to "eb1911-cite"). They were copied directly, in edits like this one, and then very lightly edited. Compare the wording of those paragraphs to wikisource:1911 Encyclopædia Britannica/Natal – it's barely changed. Hendrik Vermooten moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Hendrik Vermooten, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. PATH SLOPU 13:26, 28 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Hendrik Vermooten, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:31, 30 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Hendrik Vermooten[edit]

Hello, Waynejayes. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Hendrik Vermooten".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! JMHamo (talk) 08:22, 29 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Greetings from England[edit]

Hi Wayne, I went away for the week-end and came back to find User:War had proposed deletion of 43 articles. Obviously, you and I both know an Anglican bishop is notable by his office, and in Anglicanism's biggest Church, 14 primates! We only have 6 in the British Isles! So on this occasion, peace may have been made with war! Not so long ago, I found my young nephew watching a somewhat regrettable programme called Family Guy. I looked it up on Wikipedia, which I definitely think should have an article on such a popular programme. However, every episode has an article. To me an encyclopaedia which allows an article on one episode of a smutty cartoon but deletes articles on Anglican bishops is something else, a compendium, no different really from facebook. Ah well, live and let live, hope you and yours are all well, Matthew Bashereyre (talk) 13:51, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, suggest installing a script to highlight such errors in the future. Reference style[edit]

Hello Waynejayes,

I see you edited various articles to use a different reference style recently (e.g. [3]). Not to be too harsh here, I realize you're trying to help out, but reference style isn't really something to "fix". If you're a major editor on an article, go nuts, but please don't do "drive-by" changing of reference styles. There's many (most?) editors who prefer standard, boring, in-line citations rather than "all citations at the end". I consider the in-line style easier to maintain and follow, since the reference is just right there, and future reference additions don't need to be added "twice" (once at the end, once in a summary form). Again, feel free to use this in articles you edit a like if you're a major editor off your own preference, but I don't think this kind of invisible-to-readers change is useful if you're not also an editor of the article, since it's a change that matters for the editors of the article.
