How's the weather been in Manitoba? Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 01:10, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats good. Though I personally love the cold, I would love to visit Canada and Alaska one day. Maximillion Pegasus (talk) 01:15, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Master of Puppets! Guess what! Someone wants to nominate me at RfA! I've got to ask your guidance... he asked me if I would accept. I want to, but I'm not quite sure I'd pass. What should I say?! Also, do you think I'm ready? Basketball110 21:45, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of course you're ready! DiligentTerrier and friends 21:48, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but this is what I meant. The picture with only a caption. Basketball110 14:58, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also w/ above, but having nothing to do w/ that, are perfect edit summaries "required" for adminship? Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 01:11, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You know the sig you had before you adopted me? It's the one that had the "O" that when the mouse rolled over it, there was a question mark... well how is that done? And can something else (other than a question mark) be shown? Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 21:38, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Right. It's a rollcat. Max is finding that now. Basketball110 Go Longhorns! 02:07, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

request your input in a consensus survey re 9/11[edit]

Dear Master of Puppets,

At Talk:9/11#defining consensus I started a survey to get a better picture on how editor's opinions are varying with respect to the following statement:

"The current form of the 9/11 article is at odds with the WP:NPOV policy, and the proposed inclusion of the fact that Michael Meacher alleges the US government of willfully not preventing the attacks, would make the article better, in stead of worse.

I would appreciate it when you could take a look.  — Xiutwel ♫☺♥♪ (speech has the power to bind the absolute) 17:10, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Del.icio.us capitalization[edit]

Oh, the manual treats trademarks like iPod differently: "Trademarks beginning with a one-letter lowercase prefix pronounced as a separate letter do not need to be capitalized if the second letter is capitalized". Dreamyshade (talk) 09:00, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Films coordinator elections[edit]

Can you please undelete style tribe?[edit]

This is a term that is listed in a dictionary of fashion terms published by Women's Wear Daily, the leading fashion trade journal. Note that that list only has about 100-200 terms so they must think it is a significant concept. It is not a "non-notable neologism. Mangostar (talk) 17:36, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lexis also pulls up 424 hits in an all-news search, e.g. this published by the Evening Standard a month ago. Mangostar (talk) 17:37, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just because it is mostly used by blogs doesn't change its notability, if it is also used by reliable sources. (If the New York Times is discussing it and says Anna Sui is exploring the concept in her collection its notability is unquestionable!) Part of the problem is that there is a blog named style tribe which is one of the most popular fashion blogs. (Also the ratio of blog to non-blog fashion-related discussion on the internet is high, so many queries will pull up a lot of blogs.) This request was declined by another admin before you deleted it. If you don't undelete it I'll take it to DRV. I don't care enough about the topic now to expand it (I'm working on a bio for the guy who coined it) but someone else may and it is a fine stub for now. (Assuming that an article is coherent and explains the topic, as this one does, an article's length is absolutely no grounds for a speedy according to policy.) Mangostar (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And also as for relevancy, this was listed in WWD's shortlist of notable fashion terms! I'm not sure what other reliable sources I can find besides the most important trade publication in fashion and the most important newspaper in America. Mangostar (talk) 17:49, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Happy St. Patrick's Day[edit]

Best regards, Midorihana~iidesune? 22:15, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I actually don't really know what people do on St. Patrick's Day. The first things I see on the St. Patrick's Day article is the Chicago River dyed green and some leprechauns renaming a town to Dublin. I'm not sure that everybody does that. :P
I'm sick. :( The cold has been going around recently in my area...eh. The good thing is, at least I have more time to edit Wikipedia. :) Midorihana~iidesune? 23:09, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RM[edit]

I waited an hour and no response so I posted the request at RM to move Energy policy of the United States back to it's proper name. I'm a little surprised at your response "if we are in fact trying to standardize things, maybe we're going the wrong way?" but instead of fixing it you moved it to contested, yet no one has contested it - the two people who moved it didn't contest it, you didn't contest it, so why not just fix it? Apparently it is late at night of the United States, wait should that be "in" the United States? Which is why I'm not getting any response from the person who moved it a few days ago. 199.125.109.52 (talk) 08:10, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is contested if someone's trying to standardize it; I'm not going to move it back because that could potentially make a mess. I'm going to sleep soon, but I'll try to get in touch with that editor as soon as possible to see what we'll do. Master of Puppets Call me MoP! 08:12, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There are 2 million pages. There is no way to watch list all of them, but no reason for waiting. However they seem to be active so I have nudged them on their user page. 199.125.109.52 (talk) 17:13, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's been moved back. There is an unresolved mess of articles about the foreign policy of the US, but at least said editor has figured out the difference between "of" and "in". 199.125.109.52 (talk) 20:11, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption?[edit]

Hello! Yes, adoption sounds like fun. How can we make it happen? Ecoleetage (talk) 13:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I am not a role player, so I have idea what the specific requirements of each position would be. Can you please detail what each would require, in terms of duties and time requirements? Ecoleetage (talk) 18:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

??? Didn't hear back on this from two days ago. Ecoleetage (talk) 20:38, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • That all sounds fine. I've already created several articles for Wikipedia, so I would like to continue doing that. But how do I get involved in the other activities? Ecoleetage (talk) 00:10, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I will look into that. So, is this an official adoption, or just an advisory? Ecoleetage (talk) 00:25, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, then consider me your adopted kid! Ecoleetage (talk) 01:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Artemis Fowl[edit]

Hello! I saw that you recently expanded Artemis Fowl (film), and I wanted to let you know that the notability guidelines for future films stipulates that film articles should be created when shooting begins. This is because no project is guaranteed to enter production. As you can tell, this one has been in development hell for a while. If I may suggest, per the future films department's process, to create a "Film adaptation" section at Artemis Fowl (novel) and redirect there. Here are a few examples you can review: Shantaram (film), Fahrenheit 451 (2009 film), and Logan's Run (2010 film). Obviously, if filming begins, the full film article can be resurrected! Let me know if you have any questions. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 21:57, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Really, are you sure it's being shot? IMDb shows nothing. If it's something that can't be verified to others that filming has begun, it'd probably be best to merge. Eventually, if production did begin, a headline would have to come out. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 01:14, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, there is a pretty solid fan base for this, right? I would think that more information would be divulged. Believe me, people were all over Twilight (2008 film) when all the casting details came out... —Erik (talkcontrib) - 01:36, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Hopefully it will have a future. I have a few redirects or red links on my watchlist of projects in development, so I can kind of nudge editors to let them know the process. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 05:28, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Nicolaas Smith: incivility and the reaction[edit]

Your gentle admonition to be civil has resulted in the user going through talk pages AND archives and deleting the talk portion and replacing this with "I apologise for being uncivil. ". Again and again and again.--Gregalton (talk) 06:56, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note. Unfortunately, from some experience with this, reactions to simple admonitions and pointers to policies and instructions are met with fantastic overreactions. This is probably about the fourth time he has decided to "leave" wikipedia (asking for deletion of his various usernames, etc), only to return and each time repeat the same behaviour. Also unfortunately, I am out of suggestions as to how one might motivate him to be less disruptive.--Gregalton (talk) 07:17, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Best of luck with that - honestly. I repeat, I don't particularly want him blocked, and would be happy to see a better solution. I'm just skeptical. I have over time also followed the number of times he has edited as anon IP (easily identifiable by style and origin from whois).--Gregalton (talk) 07:28, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not going to query your closure of this debate as delete, although it was a pretty close run thing, but I think you ought to revise your closing statement. Dbachamann[edit]

MoP, I don't mean to be rude, but your response seems fantastically clueless to me. If you ever feel the need to slap a novel 2RR restriction on an experienced editor like Dbachmann, and you find yourself contemplating blocking such a user, let me strongly advise you to consult at WP:ANI first; if you had blocked in this situation, there would have been strong consensus for an immediate unblock. --Akhilleus (talk) 18:32, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey MOP. You closed this AfD, but didn't remove the AfD template from Modern Industry. I wasn't sure if you noticed that the album was included in the nom. I didn't want to take action either way, as I had advocated a position in the AfD.--Kubigula (talk) 03:54, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Some points[edit]

(after reviewing your recent edits to Talk:Main Page)
  1. Please use preview before saving your edits. Saving once provides many advantages to other users. If you don't like page reload, you may want to have a look at this script.
  2. Be more accurate with tags — <h2>s are intended to be used for headings, not for blocks (there is a <div> for that). Your version was messing up the TOC.
  3. Your signature could be shorter; four lines of wikitext in diffs such as this impede reading. Please consider removing unnecessary tags and replacing <font>s with <span>; also, Internet Explorer users (I know you dislike them, but they're still the majority) should see a square instead of smiley.

Kalan ? 09:06, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(further discussion here) No problem, “it’s my nature”. :) Regarding preview — sure, it’s not necessary when writing simple messages, but it’s good for complex wikimarkup. QPreview is a good thing, maybe it will instill the minimum save principle to you; try it! :)
What about your signature… I’d like to see the default preference set (only userpage and talk link, no formatting), but I suspect that you won’t like it. So here’s my suggestion:
<span style="color:#777">Master of Puppets</span> Call me MoP! :), that will produce Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :). Much lighter, isn’t it?
Kalan ? 13:16, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No problem again. :) By the way, User:Master of Puppets/Sig is pretty vandalisable… — Kalan ? 21:20, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please remove the linebreak after </noinclude>, because I guess you don't want to break every talkpage you sign on. Also, two more questions:
  1. In your 500 recent edits, only 36 are marked as minor (most of which have been marked automatically). Is it intentional?
  2. Do you really like this method of holding conversations, when you post messages on each other's talk page and when it's hard to restore the flow of original discussion (you have to find the matching archives, matching themes, and sort timestamps and indents)?
Kalan ? 21:46, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

To be honest, it's nothing against you, I'm more annoyed at the line of thought that anyone who doesn't dance around the maypole is a Suppressive Person™. Really, what people expect in an RfA (never mind RfB) with civility is a bit unreasonable; you can't be nice all the time (even Phaedriel can't). We're champagne bottles, not sponges, and it's better to have a few minor instances of incivility rather than going on ANI shouting "fuck you, admins, you're all a bunch of idiots". And with ED, I don't think they deserve civility at all. They lost their right of civil discussion when they said Phaedriel deserved her (fabricated) miscarriage because of her sexual history, or when they accused me of having sexual relations with Riana. Hannity/Turner[edit]

I was not aware of the three revert rule. thank you. And thank you for actually engaging on the issue. I was issued a "last warning" for no reason I could see (except intimidation). Descent 2 - semi protection of D2X-XL chapter rejected[edit]

The D2X-XL chapter of the Descent 2 article has been a target for plain vandalism or malevolent changes of its content for over a year. The issue has just started to get heated today, when a few people involved with the Descent community had decided to take this to a new level and mark the chapter as advertisement, restoring the mark whenever I remove it. You may want to take a look at that chapter. If you decide it's an advertisement, I will accept the decision. The people currently at work are however acting out of a deep personal resentment against me, and the Wikipedia entry is only a vehicle for their destructivity. FYI: Here is a link to a thread of the biggest English speaking Descent community forum, where the issue is discussed: http://www.descentbb.net/viewforum.php?f=37

Re: D2X-XL protection[edit]

Problem is that the section now has been completely deleted now (I have restored it, but that probably won't last long).

I will try to give an idea about the state of D2X-XL regarding Descent 2 here.

Descent has once been a popular game, and it offers a style of gameplay that isn't found anywhere else. So the Descent community has never completely disappeared. Through the years, changes in hardware and operating systems made it pretty impossible to play the older game versions (1 and 2) anymore. Some people added an OpenGL renderer and an Open Source IO library to it to solve that problem and called that game version D2X. D2X never worked too well though, particularly on MS Windows and OS X when I first came across it. So I started my own development branch, and over more than three years I ironed out all these issues and added a ton of new features. D2X-XL has actually been the first OpenGL mod of Descent 2 that really worked well, and worked well across Windows, Linux and OS X.

DXX-Rebirth, a similar project which came into existance later, caused kind of a split in the Descent community between those who wanted a beefed up Descent game and those who wanted one looking as much as the original as possible, but D2X-XL is the oldest OpenGL port around that is still actively maintained, and the first to breathe new life into the gaming community. It currently has around 5000 users (not much, but given the state of the community before it was created, that's a significant increase).

Currently, D2X-XL and DXX-Rebirth are *the way* to play Descent 1 and 2 on modern hardware and OS-s.

I am not writing this up to advertise for my project, but to give you an understanding of the situation and of the significance of D2X-XL for the current Descent community. The point is also not that I want the Wikipedia to advertise for D2X-XL (I believe that the current version of the D2X-XL section complies with Wikipedia's policies). But it has it's place in the history of Descent, and currently a few people who are driven by personal issues are trying to do everything against D2X-XL they can, and that is adding negative information to the project, adding advert tags, and now completely removing that section (while leaving the DXX-Rebirth section intact). I had added a talk link to the DXX-Rebirth and D2X-XL sections, but instead of discussing any open issues, these were also removed.

I don't think that is acceptable or in accordance with Wikipedia rules.

I don't know what would considered a reliable source for this, but there are

www.descent2.de

www.sourceforge.net/projects/d2x-xl

Containing game and program info, feature lists, worklog entries, bug trackers etc. etc.

So there is a way to verify that.

If there is no justification for leaving the D2X-XL section there, I cannot see one for the DXX-Rebirth section either. So someway or the other this should be resolved.

I'm not agreeing with the outcome. 4 delete, 4 protected smerges, 7 keep. 2 of the keep votes based on websites notability, which is irrelevant to the separate notability of the term. 2 of the keep positions held by people who are involved with the website. (Owner and designated WP contact) Keep arguments with a vague claim that subject is notable or has a lot of ghits, but there is not one reliable source in the article. None of keep arguments are based on actual policy. The only rs claimed to exist has never been seen by the person trying to claim it as proof of notability.

Why was this AFD closed as a keep? Horrorshowj (talk) 06:30, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

D2X-XL once more[edit]

The main problem currently is that the D2X-XL section keeps being marked as advertisement. I don't think it is, and I haven't written the current text, nor have I asked a friend of mine who might be biased. Some guy from the Descent community did.

Regarding your comments on sources: I didn't see your link about secondary and tertiary sources. Besides that is DXX-Rebirth in the exact same situation, and that section neither gets vandalized by marking it as ad nor deleting it.

The reason is that certain persons are trying to hurt the D2X-XL project. The main actor behind this is the Wikipedia user "D3Bubbalou".

Is there no way to stop that? I am starting to getting really upset about this, because currently there is no protection or help at all offered by Wikipedia, and you certainly don't want to present Wikipedia as a playground for trolls, do you?

If there is a better way to reply to your comments on my discussions page than posting new questions here, please let me know. I am pretty new to this.

About RyRy5[edit]

I never intended to bite this user, he asked people to comment, I gave my opinion. Philippe has demonstrated that RyRy5 gave dubious information in its adoption program. I just think that all this exposition on Jimbo's talk page (RyRy5 has created 3 headings there), this strong desire to become administrator, and this adoption program is a bit disconcerting when he says that he's a newcomer (and warns me for WP:BITE). My first interaction with this user was this edit, then he says that "Many people (admins especcialy) really like my program.". I suggest that he gave me the diffs, or that we submit this project to the community's approval (as usual here) [1], he replies "No, it's OK. I may stop the program. I don't really want to talk about it.". I have not commented further. He's not a newcomer anymore, or it's hypocrisy, how can WP:BITE applies here ? I don't see what you mean by age bashing, I may be 4 years older than he is. CenariumTalk 02:51, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About the contribs, I think that the number of edits means essentially nothing too, but 360 mainspace edits on a total of 3465, it's, say, unusual. I based myself on other people's comments too, and I checked the mainspace edits of RyRy5. Maybe I analyzed too quickly, but I've the feeling that this user wants to appear as an experienced, soon-to-be-admin, user, when he's not. Maybe it's common, and it can have positive revenues, but negative ones too, see the posts of Philippe:[2] . Look at this exchange User_talk:Queerbubbles#Hi_Again (the one mentioned in the diff). The way he responded to my comments was not entirely good faith. Maybe it was my fault, I pushed too hard, but hearing other people's thoughts isn't bad either. I don't close my eyes on evidence, I'm not going to hide my thoughts, it appears to me that there's a lot of bad faith in the use of Wikipedia by RyRy5, and others. I've been thinking to apologize to him for having "overreacted", but I'm not sure about this. I try to adapt my judgment to Wikpedia, and I may be mistaking, I defended users in regards of WP:BITE in the past, this one for example and I'm thinking twice before commenting. About RyRy5, what do you think ? CenariumTalk 04:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Experience needs practice, I see that he started to make more mainspace edits now, which is a good thing. I just hope that this social networking trend, these private cabals, these parallel groups forming and so won't impair Wikipedia's principles in the long run and the spirit of open community. I'm certainly wrong to see bad faith in all this, it's more like incomprehension or reinterpretation of the principles. I'm sure that RyRy5 is well-meaning, some of his reactions were misguided but comprehensible, and I agree that nobody's to blame. Cheers, CenariumTalk 23:22, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Cabals[edit]

Apologies if things came across slightly aggressively, it may just have been I overreacted to this thread initially being posted on [[User:Jimmy Wales|Jimbo's] talk page! And there is also something on an irony in being accused of biting a new user when that user is asking about an adoption school they have created! Either way, I should know better! Hey, its probably best not go deleting the uzi-mon page again once it gets recreated. This is not a threat, I'm just saying it makes you look like a gay loser with nothing better to do than to nitpick. Minding your own business is a virtue. Feel free to explain your reasons why you felt it important to delete the page in the first place, although nothing you will say can take away the fact that you did it because you have too much time on your hands. Were you the guy in class who always put up his hand and reminded the teacher that he forgot to give you homework? I didn't create the page, but saw that it had been taken down by you, and I just think that you're taking this wikipedia thing way too seriously. New question[edit]

Got another question: how long should one wait before submitting an AfD for an article that just survived an earlier AfD? I am peeved over this article: 3. I don't agree with the notability at all, but I don't want to start a fight all over again over this item (which included a blatant sock puppet contribution and a bit of name calling that became intellectually unpleasant). Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 00:57, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I spoke with the Admin. I also reported the sock puppet. I don't see any reversal coming from that approach, which is why I was asking about doing a second AfD. I will try the deletion review. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • New Question for 23 April Hi there! I have another new question: What do I do with a guy like this: 4? He has four Speedy Deletion notices plus a warning for creating inappropriate pages. Where on Wikipedia would I report him? Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 16:58, 23 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RE: THE UZI-MON PAGE[edit]

If you didn't take the page down, my apologies for getting upset. I'm just confused - I never knew there existed this cabal of self-appointed wikipedia editors. And I know you serve a purpose, which is the regulation of information, and perhaps if the public continues to edit its own info, maybe we will eventually ensure that most of these pages contain information that is factual and unbiased. So, bravo. As long as you remain unbiased. But I'm curious to know what constitutes appropriate and inappropriate. Surely, lies and misinformation is inappropriate, thats a given. But beyond that, who decides what is relevant and what is irrelevant? And how? Thanks, that's all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skullduggerist (talkcontribs) 03:44, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And how do the self-appointed wikipedia editor-warriors like yourself determine whether a page is significant or not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Skullduggerist (talkcontribs) 03:46, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Incivility of Jeffreyneave and his sock puppets[edit]

You declined this request, saying, "There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time." I ask you to reconsider. Here are the diffs for the disruptive edits in February alone (reverse chronological order): (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8) (combined consecutive edits by IP), (9) (combined consecutive edits by IP, (10) (combined consecutive edits by IP, (11). There were many more in January and December, with incivil edit summaries containing the following language (all spelling mistakes are from the IP): "mr arrogant," "ruthless uncvil vandalism," "ruthless bully," "rubbish by tennis arrogant," "bully boy actions," "arrogant egotistical jerk," "he's not god but acts like he is," "arrogant vandalism," "your massive ego and incredible arrogance," "reada book you jerk and stop interferring in good work because you ignorant and pedantic," "your ignorance no reason to not include fact," and "just becqause yourignoraqnt does not mean its not true." Thanks. Tennis expert (talk) 04:06, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

            • tennis expert and bad behavior

Tennis expert is beyond a joke. his behavior is consistently atrocious. he act like god and chief censor. he never backs up any of his edits with common decent argument. He accusses any one who challenges his edits as vandalism. he defends the indefensible. he censors criticism. he is constently rude to other editors. he should be banned. he is a bully boy who redits any edit within minutes (nobody else does this). he is reknowed for getting in edit wars (see tennis statistics) and he is consistently rude to other editors (see remarks to carlo coluusi in jimmy connors and german friend in rod laver) He has been a rude menance since last november. His behaviour is awful; I may have used rude language, but as far as iu'm concerned rude, uncvilised behavior is far worse. he should be stopped. he's the one starting calling every redit of his work incvil vandalism, when it was nothing of the kind. he's the one who did the silly edit of removing laver's total wins year by year; abosulte nonsense. this man is so arrogant and (look at his name: his ego is gigantic) petty he would drive anybody to bad langage and aggressive remarks; he should be banned. ask carlo and german friend about his behaviour. Thyis man is a liar. nobody else has backed up his edits ; what a joke; he is a minority of one. the tables were perfectly consisent and sensible back in october before tennis ego arrived. you don't put citations when the info comes from the main sources as this silly man has been consistently requesting . and you don't put incitations when the source is obvious ( ie rod lavers's quote after a match obviously comes from his press conference). this man has driven me up the wall with his stubbornness. you should get evidence from other witneesse before bowing to the snide requests of tennis ego. I was not even aware this page existed or I would have complained about him long ago

jeffreyneave 23 april 2008

Now mr dictator you response is rubbish. your suppose to review the evidence not act as prosecuting council for one stupid man , Its civil behaviour is what matters and his is an absolute disgrace. he's the one who started the incivilty calling my redits vandalism when they were prefectly appropriate. you should look at all the posts on rod laver, tennis staistic and jimmy connors . look at the responses of carlo colussi and german friuend and see what they think of tennis arrogant. I will call him as many names as I want until he reforms and does not act like a facist policeman , he needs to be stopped and told off regularly; he is a disgrace; i repeat a disgrace. look at the evidence ( i have no idea how to use any of the fancy tools on wiki; so your gonna have to put some work in , but that's your job if you volunteer to get involved in bitter disputes) ; that you let such an arrogant man act with such a massive ego operate freely is totally wrong and your taking his side reflect very badly you. men like him should be sworn at and told what people think of him. I have never used swear words against him but have used descroiptions that are accurate. look at his recent self serving post on rod laver to carlo and his digraceful censorship of my legitimate comments; he is not a censor or a dictator ' but acts like one; he needs to be brought to heel and your helping him because your stopping crticism of him. he is an absoloute disgrace. plenty of people have criticied him but he never, never apologises. its beyond a joke. its war as far as l'm concerned and its being going on for 5 months mate and isnot gtoing to be over until i get justice. I'm sick and tired of wikki rule players taking advantage of their knowledge to threaten the innocent. [[User

bad behaviour of master of puppets

again its you and wiki rukes that don't get the message. bad behaviour is in not allowed. its inexcusable and leads to being told off; personal criticism is the correct way to treat some one behaving badly; and wiki rules should not be protecting the guilty. Personal criticism is what is required. if you act arrogantly or like a lazy dictator then you deserved to be called on it and told in no uncertain terms. your response of the 23 april was pathetic. "i know nothing of tennis expert's behaviour" is totally neglience on your part. you should be very well aware of the history of the feud between tennis expert and myself on rod laver. you have been aware of it since late feb 2008 . you should have invsetigated rod laver there and then; you were told where the dispute was. there's no excuses for not reading all the evidence ; it exists and is easily accessible. that's jour job if you agree to be somesort of judge. As to me using blue flahes you can't be serious. i know nothing of wiki fancy stuff; all i do is write sentances; nothing else; i use my keyboard like a typewriter. i might further add that the wiki complaints procedure is unintelligble and like all of wiki a labyrinth with countless dead ends. your response to be correctly crticised was to act like a vindictative policeman. punish the man who has justifiably criticism him. that's what you did and that 's bad behaviour.. and you and wiki rules should take your punishment in being roundly criticised. wiki rules are rubbish and have no place in public forums. I was not given a vote on wiki rules and i'm under no obligation to follow them. bad actions should lead to condenmation in words and if wiki is blocking it then wiki deserves to be flushed down the toilet

jeffreyneave 5 may 2008 answer the complaint and stop hiding behind wiki rules. read the evidence on rod laver; that's your 'job as a judge. you have failed . reading is a lot easwier than writing get on with it.

Master of puppets fails to recognise his bad behavior. As a judge or arbitar you are suppose to find the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. You are not just suppose to read biased edited highlights. You read all of it; you read all of it. In this case you are suppose to read Rod laver from the 20 November 2007 when tennis expert first made his malignant pesense felt on this page. You are also suppose to read Rod laver talk page from 6 december 2007 when the first response to his unwelcome presense was given. Now just so you get the message here it is for you READ ROD LAVER; READ ROD LAVER ; READ ROD LAVER.

now as a bonus for you who only wants to read a few short ediots, here is the latest confronation of tennis expert on the WORLD NUMBER ONE TENNIS PLAYER TALK PAGE from the 1st may 2008. This is typical normal behaviour by tennis expert and shows that I'm not the only one to find him rude, objectionable and very annoying. Also of course read tennis expert's typical insensitive edit of 30 april on the main page which set off his latest edit war. It also shows yet again how stupid and silly wiki edit rules are..

jeffreyneave 2008 14 may

I am again asking you to reconsider. Please see this. Thanks. Tennis expert (talk) 20:51, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure how a person could be said to be editing in "good faith" when he or she is as incivil as the person has been for the last 3 or 4 months. Most of this person's edit summaries are insulting to me. Have you looked at them? They're available through the history of the Rod Laver article. This person is a suck puppet for a registered user, Jeffreyneave. As for the quality of this person's edits, he's been asked to source controversial quotations. He refuses to do so. He's been asked to quit making tables internally inconsistent. He refuses to do so. He repeatedly makes edits against the wishes of other editors, as evidenced by the reverts of his edits that persons other than me have made. What additional justification do you need? Warning him does no good because he uses an IP account once, never to return to it again. I highly doubt he has seen any of your warnings. If your decision is final, please let me know so I can seek a second opinion. Thanks. Tennis expert (talk) 06:04, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's no question that this IP user is a sock puppet of Jeffreyneave. He often signs his discussion page posts manually with "jeffreyneave" while using an IP account that's also used for disruption and incivility on the Rod Laver article. Really, what good would a block do? He no longer uses the Jeffreyneave registered account, instead using rolling IP accounts. He posts only to a few articles, with the Rod Laver account being his most common outlet. Semi-protection of that article seems reasonable to me and most likely to protect Wikipedia. But that's only my opinion, I suppose. Tennis expert (talk) 07:36, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Tennis expert (talk) 07:42, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. I need your help again concerning the rampant incivility of Jeffreyneave and his primary (but not only) sock puppets 86.133.15.188 and 86.166.162.88. His incivility essentially has been nonstop since I last contacted you, but my patience has now run out. I am asking you to take appropriate action. Please refer to his edit summaries here and here. (I've copied and pasted our original discussion concerning a request to protect the Rod Laver article.) Thanks for your help! Tennis expert (talk) 22:32, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update and request[edit]

I wanted to update you on where I was. There’s good news and bad news. The good news is this: since I was adopted, I’ve been creating articles, editing articles, marking articles for speedy deletion and AfD consideration and participating in AfD debates. I also began to wade into the WP:Backlog to get rid of older stuff.

The bad news is this: I’ve been involved in several discussions and deletion debates where I’ve been less than civil. And I am not happy for that. In one case, I made an effort to apologize with someone whom I may have offended, and we are now working together harmoniously. With other users, I’ve tried to be pleasant and left complimentary messages on their Talk Pages, hoping I could plant good seeds. If you want evidence of where I erred badly: [5] [6] (hostile language) and [7] (improper use of vandal warning). I received a warning from an Administrator, too: 8.

Although I tried to make amends, I do feel guilty that some of my editing may have been disruptive. As I see it, I need to cool off and learn to assume good faith. And this is my request of you, as both my “adopter” and as an Administrator: Is it possible for you to Block me for a period as a preventive measure for me to stop, cool down and refocus? As I understand Blocking Policy, it can be done for “either removing, or encouraging change in, a source of disruption.” I think this would encourage me to change for the better and be civil.

I know requests by users to have themselves voluntarily blocked are usually not accepted. However, the policy doesn’t specifically state this is 100% prohibited. I also know there’s a program for a self-administered WikiBreak, but I don’t see that as being effective – I would use that if I went on vacation.

I would request that you consider a cooling down period of anywhere up to 72 hours. I saw you did a 72 hour block for someone engaged in personal attacks, which is where I got that figure. If I knew that someone I can respect is putting me in a corner for a defined period, I feel that I can chill out properly and then return to be a more productive and less combative personality. I hope this request isn’t too loopy. Please let me know if you can accommodate me. Many thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 22:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hey, thanks for the words of encouragement. I am doing "awesomely"? Wow, that's great! I did find out that there is a way to circumvent the WikiBreak Enforcer program to prematurely conclude the time-out period, which is why I asked for the Block. But if you don't think it is the right strategy, I'll just press ahead doing what I am doing. Thanks again! Ecoleetage (talk) 09:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again! Well, it wasn't a case of my "wanting" to be Blocked. I raised the suggestion because I was upset at my uncivil actions (which I shared with you in the previous links, along with the previous Admin warning). If Blocking will hurt an RfA bid, I would obviously not want that to blot my record. But if a Block wouldn't be held against me for an RfA, that's another story. I just wanted to show that I took my actions seriously and I felt responsible for what transpired.

Maybe I am just being harsh on myself. Thanks for listening, and let me know what you think. Ecoleetage (talk) 17:09, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ANOTHER THOUGHT Procedural question: if I asked you to set up the WikiBreak enforcer on my monobook.js page for me with a time-off period of your choosing, is that something you could do? Because I know I'm not going to do it on my own accord, but I would respect your instructions to chill for "x" number of days. (Please don't take the initiative now -- it is just an academic inquiry about monobook.js editing!) Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 21:40, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • ANOTHER THOUGHT (28 April) Just as a heads up on my Wikipedia activities: I just counted and it seems I created 14 15 17 new articles in the past two weeks. Mercifully, none of them were put up for AfD or Speedy Deletion consideration. It’s addictive, to be certain (perhaps too addictive), but it is also satisfying. Thanks Ecoleetage (talk) 19:54, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD Worthy?[edit]

Hey, sorry to bother again, but I have a new question. There's an article on Wikipedia that I believe should be up for an AfD nomination. However, I know the guy who is the subject of the article and I don't want to incur a COI problem by nominating it. Please take a look at 9 and let me know if you think the article should be up for an AfD. I can't improve on it because I cannot locate any independent sources. Everything I can find online on the subject was strictly self-promotional. It bothers me, since I've seen some articles with independent and notable sources deleted, but stuff like this remains online. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 23:13, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you were to AfD it, what would be your reason for doing so? Basketball110 23:18, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, BB110, for taking the AfD lead! Ecoleetage (talk) 23:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback Feature[edit]

Hey again! I was reading about Wikipedia:Rollback feature, and it stated that users can obtain this by asking administrators. Is this something that you could please arrange for me? Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 03:14, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, welcome back! Good to see you again.

On rollback: yes, I promise not to engage in a revert war. To incorporate and set up the function into my WP work, do I just add those scripts to my monobook.js page? This is new to me, hence my asking. Thank you, again, for granting me rollback permission.

On excessive editing – yes, I can understand what you are saying on burnout and such. This can be addictive. I usually sneak WP work in during off periods in the day. But I could use a slow-down period - I feel a bit fatigued. Which leads to...

Thank you for the offer to help on the WikiBreak enforcement. If this is within WP policy (since I am on record specifically making the request and this is not an official block), I am going to ask if you could please set my WikiBreak Enforcer for a period of anywhere between 72 hours (the span you gave another user who was excessively rude) and two weeks (the proverbial two-week vacation). The time set aside is strictly your call – just leave word on my talk page regarding when I can expect to return. Oh, and if I question your judgment, you have my permission to double the time-off break! (Honest!). Be well and thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 10:55, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. By the way, I am the type who needs a little extra help on losing addictions - you should've seen me when I decided to quit smoking! :) Ecoleetage (talk) 13:40, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for explaining the Rollback information. Like I said, this is all relatively new to me, so I hope it doesn't sound too elementary. With the Enforcer thing -- as luck would have it, after I left my original message I received a call from a friend who asked for some assistance on construction work on his house. I'm going to grab my tools and be away for the next few days, so I think I will leave my laptop at home for a full Net break (not just WP, but the whole World Wide Web). So fate intervened with its own WikiBreak! Ecoleetage (talk) 23:35, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, sorry to bother, but are you sure I have rollback permission? You didn't add my name to the list of non-admin users who are supposed to have rollback permission -- see here 10. Please let me know if you can add my name there -- I don't want to exercise rollback without having proper permission. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:37, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. According to the rollback page, "Any administrator can grant rollback to a user using his or her own judgement. To grant rollback, the administrator needs to go to Special:Userrights and add the rollback permission to the user's account." Can you please go to that page and handle that? Otherwise, your permission to use rollback is void. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 01:41, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RfPP for Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (dates and numbers)[edit]

Please revisit this RfPP request. With all respect, it appears that your decision was based on a mis-read of the request. The problem has been on the Talk page, yet your response addressed the Article. Disruptions on the talk page are complicating attempts to reach the concensus that could unlock the article. Thank you. LeadSongDog (talk) 13:49, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further... I see by your edit on the talk page you did think I had mis-entered the request. If you follow the links I provided with it, you'll see the disruption was in fact directed at the talk page too. Thanks,LeadSongDog (talk) 17:27, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hi. I'm Yzzug. I'm new and i was wondering if you could adopt me. Please could you. Yzzug (talk) 07:08, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adopt[edit]

It seems as if you have other adopted users that probably need more attention than me. Most of them seem to be on at better times, so We can probably cancel the adoption. Though it has not been long, the information you have given me has been very helpful (increasing my productiveness) along with me watching your contribs and improving my own. Cheers! You know, I had a feeling such pages existed, but I couldn't find them. Or...maybe I found them but just forgot. :-P

Thanks for the links, MoP. It's always a pleasure to receive polite, intelligent help (how rare that is today) from you. --LaPianísta! 16:30, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yay! You're back (henceforth, the title)!!! How have WikiThings been? How was the Black Ops mission? Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 21:34, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Real life is horrible, for some odd reason; and Maxwell and his Silver Hammer made me nearly retire (Diligent Terrier made a petition, and shook some sense into me, though). Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 01:39, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ads[edit]

Is there any chance that you could make a Wikipedia ad for Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Monorail task force? Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 01:37, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greyish and brown or something like that. It wasn't the song that made me nearly leave. I was just using that as a metaphor. Maxwell is (well, I could make a list, but that would take awhile), or are, Wikipedians that I haven't felt comfortable with. The silver hammer is the stress. About Ecoleetage, I don't think I helped any, especially with one of my latest edit summaries on this page. :S Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 02:24, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Could I ask for some advice about Ecoleetage? I don't want to see him upset... he's rejecting the smile (they changed the templates content, so now it sounds almost mean), and the edit summary I wrote (that I didn't mean)... what should I do about this? Or am I just that cat that says "needs moar drma?" Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 02:28, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not polite to talk about people behind their back -- especially if they can hear you! In any event, I reverted the edit and restored the smiley face to my talk page. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 02:54, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I don't think I mentioned why real life was horrible. The reason for that is that if I tell you, you might regret me telling you. And thanks for the advice so far. Happy hobbying! Basketball110 My story/Tell me yours 03:55, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New question[edit]

Hey there, I received an offer to be adopted by the editor DiligentTerrier. I don't know if WP policy allows two different editors to adopt an individual. I wanted to check with you to see if that is allowed -- and if it is allowed, whether it was okay with you. Also, check your e-mail! Cheers! Ecoleetage (talk) 19:30, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just noticed this here and I want to say that I know co-adoption is OK, but I wasn't aware that Master of Puppets had adopted Ecoleetage when I offered to adopt him. But I'd still be fine with co-adopting if both parties approve of this. Cheers! - DiligentTerrier (and friends) 19:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
PS - Thanks for the email offer on the WikiBreak. I am not certain where to set up the codes on my page. Please set it for May 11. I appreciate this. Ecoleetage (talk) 00:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • PS After I posted this, I wound up getting two more DYKs! Ecoleetage (talk) 21:02, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Mmmm, going featured seems like a challenge. I like challenges. I'll let you know how that goes. Ecoleetage (talk) 21:41, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Instant Update Okay, I put up two articles for Peer Review, with the hope they will lead to FA. I'm also going for my fourth DYK with a new article (the 40th to date). And check your email, too! Thanks again! Ecoleetage (talk) 21:53, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I got feedback from the Peer Review crew for the WP:FA consideration, as you suggested. Their reaction was lukewarm. Eh, you can't please everyone. Ecoleetage (talk) 03:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A very belated congratulations[edit]

Hiya Mopper. So, I was browsing through the last few months of successful RfAs, and was very happy to see your name among them. I wish I had been around, I would have supported (as I supported your first one). Anyway, here's a very belated congratulations from me. No guarantees that I won't appear to go into hiding again in another week, but I'm always around if you need me.

Greetings[edit]

Howzit! Hey, MoP, haven't seen you around in a while.

Could you do me a quick favor and check if I closed these correctly? Thanks!

Ouch, AP exams... I haven't had them myself, but by what I've heard they are quite the ordeal (a hair-pulling, cramming ordeal). I have exams to study for myself, but I don't feel like it right now. :P
The wiki life goes alright, although it does turn out that I made a mistake on the RfD's, which I did get help on. Oh, and I love huggle (it's awesome).
Actually, I do have a question - what do you think is the best method to dealing with vandalizing users? Thanks! Midorihana~いいですね? はい! 07:30, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you mean... how would you deal with sockpuppeting users? Thanks for your help! Midorihana みどりはな 04:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Alright. Thanks a lot! Midorihana みどりはな 06:38, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

New sig[edit]

As mentioned on IRC... uses a "Basque" font (not sure who all has that, though, so let me know if you see it) --umrguy42 21:16, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for the input (trying a second test, too ;D) --umrguy42 21:29, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And, thanks for the input! (*cough* third test *cough*) --umrguy42 21:33, 18 May 2008 (UTC) yeah, perfect :D[reply]
