Absolutely! I have to say my collection of rare books from that period that I've inherited are a great help in piecing obscure articles like this together. I made a similar article about another obscure General named Ruloff Brinkerhoff after seeing a snippet about him. I've added the de Peyster piece to the Template talk:Did you know (which I didn't know existed until a week or two ago), perhaps if you like the article you could recommend it further, or suggest a different version. Hello. I removed your picture of the Charles L. Manson House in Wisconsin from the Prairie School article. My reasoning is that it is a 1938 work by Frank Lloyd Wright, which is well past his primary Prairie period. Just by glancing at the house I would say it is more of Wright's later period Usonian aesthetic than it is Prairie. If you can provide a source that says that house is Prairie style then please add the image back, otherwise it shouldn't be added.IvoShandor 04:38, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I have generally avoided editing controversial topics. The Midwest articles which I thought would be relatively straight forward sure seem to be getting hit with sock puppets and hidden agenda over the airtran merger. You're taking this way, way, way too personally. I never directed this at you. My exact summary was: putting cookie image back in - boy this debate is one of the most vicious I've ever seen My comment was directed to passionate edit changes in an article that by most standards should be noncontroversial. I wish I hadn't put that in the summary because that merely stirred the pot of an already boiling article. The worst offender in all this is an anonymous user. Brooklyn Tornado

Hi Americasroof! I agree that the exact limits of the path of the tornado are not clear. It looks like there might have been some damage in Ditmas Park. But after reading various sources, it is pretty clear to me that the last area to have been seriously hit before the storm dissipated was Kensington, bordering on Prospect Park South. One problem is that the neighborhood names are so fluid and indistinct. In a larger sense and historically, these are all part of Flatbush. The Post is clearly wrong if it mentioned Ocean Avenue, which is much farther east. That much I can say for certain. The Wikipedia article Kensington shows clearly that the storm had a noticeable impact on that neighborhood. Ditmas Park doesn't even mention it. The Kensington blog http://kensingtonbrooklyn.blogspot.com/ mentions plans by the city to replace trees on Ocean Parkway. Nothing about Ocean Avenue. The more I think about this, the more I realize that the tornado really ended in Prospect Park South, so I am going to add that. I am a lifelong Brooklynite and live a couple of miles from the path of the tornado. I never thought something like this would hit so close, so I have a special interest in it! OK, I found a citation. The National Weather service says it's Ocean Parkway. (And everything else I've seen points to Ocean Parkway, not Ocean Avenue. The Post simply made a mistake. It's pretty common to confuse the two streets). Whoops! I just noticed that the National Weather service itself made the mistake! The Post was just following them. They don't say Ocean Parkway, they say Ocean Avenue! But some local resident knew better, and questioned it in the Kensington blog. Ocean Avenue is almost a mile further east, and there are no reports of the storm having gone that far. --Alan W 04:35, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

The best citation was right in front of our eyes: the National Weather Service revised its statement, correcting the error, and that statement was cited in the first note in this very Brooklyn-tornado article. I have now just linked to that reference. I knew it couldn't have been Ocean Avenue. But of course in Wikipedia we have to back up claims with sources. --Alan W 04:56, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

Re: "black line": Actually it did, as you can see above ;-) I reckon you went to the DYK Suggestions page, did a CTRL+F on your article's name, and only found a black strikeout line:

• The bottom sections of the DYK Suggestions page has a list of "new articles" detected by a bot. There, volunteers can go fishing for good articles to nominate in the actual Suggestions sections at the top. (Of course, articles creators are encouraged to self-nominate their new articles to DYK, but new editors don't know DYK and thus the bot's list helps detect their articles.) Once someone has nominated an article from the bot's list, it is good form to strike it out with a "nom" mention, to avoid other editors wasting time reviewing articles already nominated.
• Also, nominated articles in the Suggestions pool, after inspection and possible discussion, can be selected by a DYK admin and moved from the "Suggestions" page to the "Next Update" plate, then posted to the Main Page. I reckon your article was either at "Next update" or Main Page when you looked for it, thus you couldn't find it on the Suggestions page: it was already in the pipeline. Thanks for the encouraging words. The infobox has really helped since it supports pushpins and detroitbot was nice enough to grant my request to crawl New York pages with the pushpins. My local maps come the U.S. Census reference maps. I wish we could put them on all entries. I finished Suffolk County tonight and will work on Nassau next. Then I will probably retire from mapping New York other than some one offs. There's some very good mapmakers on wikipedia but I think they are intimidated by New York's huge numbers and the fact there are a lot of unincorporated areas. THanks again. Yes, great job with the maps in Suffolk County, New York! Thank you. I know you named the U.S. Census as the sources, but I was wondering if you could give a specific link or details about how I can find more details about those maps. I was looking at maps of Northport, New York and East Northport, New York in particular and find some of those borders a little odd, in that large areas that are "known" to be part of each town are not included. I don't want to bog you down with details that probably don't concern you but just as one example of why I would like to investigate further is that the Nortport Power Station which has hundreds of credible citations to it being located within the town of Northport, is not within the boundaries of the Northport map. (Here's just one citation to a formal DEC application listing it's address as Northport.) I fully understand that these map differences did not originate from you since the maps came from the Census Bureau, and I greatly appreciate how these maps definitely improve those articles, but I would like to check out more details on the sources of those borders. You can find all the maps from the search box. The home page of the census is http://www.census.gov/

If you search there it gives you an overview of the location. You have to click on the “Fact Sheet” to get to the screen with the reference map. BTW as caveats the maps strictly reflect where the population statistics came from and have nothing to do with mailing addresses. The maps should accurately reflect incorporated village boundaries. However since the hamlets (CDP) have no legal standing those boundaries can be set somewhat arbitrarily by the census.16:35, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Metoac

I am afraid the article stil does not alleviate any confusion over this term. If I understand correctly, the term itself has no lingustic legitimacy,and is jsut another concoction. An article on Native American place names on Long Island would be a much better contribution than "Metoac". The eastern end of Long Ilsand was not the same people as the western end, and so the relationship among the names is geographic proximity, not lingusitic or cultural, which Metoac as a concept and the current article seems to purport. If any article on Metoac were to be included, it should probably be written along the line of another article ona a fraud: Walam Olum - although that has its problems as well. There are lots of references and even Strong's writings lump them together as culturally the same unit. The title of the article could be changed to "History of Native American Tribes on Long Island" or some such. The article can be used to debunk.
