LIRR dates

Yes, Americasroof, I am quite sure of the LIRR dates. The State acquired the capital stock in 1966 and handed over operation to the newly formed MCTA in 1968. By the time of the disastrous Penn Central merger, the LIRR was already gone from the PRR balance sheet. -- Cecropia 06:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I thought you were probably right but the article wasn't clear. Thanks again (and for the help on talk!!! Americasroof 11:11, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Truman

Keep up the good work on Harry S. Truman National Historic Site! Nationalparks 03:22, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions, but I have have a couple of comments.

You have turned the history section from prose into a bullet-point list. It is generally considered better style for an encyclopedia article to be in prose, rather than a list of bullet points. Please would you think about turning it back into prose (adding in your additions, of course).

You may also have noticed the "preview" button, which you can use to check an edit before you save it. Although you can edit an article half a dozen times in a row, doing so it makes it more difficult to follow the edit history. -- ALoan (Talk) 16:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your repsonse. I agree that a timeline can be helpful (there is a nifty graphical way to produce them - see John Vanbrugh, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and List of popes (graphical) for examples) but I think the timeline should accompany the prose, not replace it.
I was just pointing it out the "preview" function in case you hadn't noticed it. I often edit the same article more than once, but I try not to do it half a dozen times, where I can help it (but don't look at the edit history for Test cricket hat-tricks or List of Test cricket triple centuries!). -- ALoan (Talk) 14:39, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Catskills as a Robert Moses project?

I don't think that category makes sense. While Moses acquired some of the better land in the Catskill Park (and I really should appropriately rename that article and Adirondack Park since both are officially just known as parks and they aren't state parks in the same way that all of the other state parks are), it was created before he was born.

BTW, are you the same guy whose name I know from other hiking-related fora who runs the americasroof.com site? Daniel Case 16:28, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Robert Moses and New York State Parks

I can find no evidence supporting your addition of Category:Robert Moses Projects to Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park, and I suspect several other parks outside of the NYC area. Would you care to cite a source? Thanks, -- Mwanner | Talk 13:56, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

You wrote: "Robert Moses was originally the New York STATE Parks Commissioner...". Harriman and Bear Mountain were built under the Palisades Interstate Park Commission in the 1910s. But "...the state park system was consolidated under Robert Moses in 1924..." [1]. I am going to remove the Moses category from those two parks, and I urge you to check the accuracy of assigning the other upstate parks to his agency. -- Mwanner | Talk 15:51, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedi CD

I don't see how this effort is an effort to privatize the material. Rather it is an attempt to spread knowledge in keeping with the general goals of the Wikimedia Foundation. It is an important part of the Wikipedia:One Encyclopedia Per Child (position paper) which is an outgrouth of the One Laptop Per Child - I hope you reconsider Trödel 14:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Why are you messing up these things without telling anybody or discussing it first? It's really rude. Williamb 04:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits to Jazz. Your last edit is grammatically unclear, though. I didn't fix it since I wasn't sure of its intended meaning. Special-T 12:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Missouri in the Civil War

You have recently been working on an impressive menu for Missouri Civil War battles. If you have time, you may want to create a separate article such as Ohio in the Civil War or Pennsylvania in the Civil War covering Missouri. There are also attached categories for these states that you may want to copy for Missouri topics such as people, places, events, monuments, etc. (see Category:Ohio in the Civil War). Regards, and keep up the good work! Scott Mingus 18:22, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Scott! Those are great suggestions! Americasroof 19:02, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

link to kansas city

Hello, when you want to link to the article about Kansas City, please do not link to Kansas City, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as Kansas City, Missouri by writing out [[Kansas City, Missouri|Kansas City]]. Regards, Jeff3000 22:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

Points well taken. I didn't see any explanation of the deletion in your edit summaries, and you were making enough changes that I thought you might have lost that graf in the process. Damn! I just realised that I just reverted a minor change that should stay. Anyway... cheers! -- Mwanner | Talk 23:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Civil War articles

I'm sitting in a hotel in southern Ohio as I type this. I've been filling out Category:Kansas in the Civil War tonight, as well as Category:Missouri in the Civil War for those biographies and places not covered in your excellent template. Keep up the good work, and please join the Civil War Task Force! We'd love to have you on board. Scott Mingus 01:05, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

DYK

Updated DYK query On 1 October, 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Bearcat Stadium, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Hello, great job on Bearcat Stadium. Thanks for the good work. I thought you might like to know about Wikipedia:WikiProject_College_football. I added our Project template to the new article's Talk page. Best, Johntex\talk 03:37, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Awesome! I had no idea DKR had been a president of that association until I saw you add it today. I tagged the new list with the college football template. We also have a Portal:College football which you are more than welcome to contribute to. Johntex\talk 03:49, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Featured article

Great job on the Bearcat Stadium article it has received front page recognition. That is great exposure for it. It is a good article. Thank you. BCV 16:26, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the thanks!  :)

I've been working on the list of National Register places in Florida, and got to Monroe County. Don't know the specifics of ownership of the Truman Annex. I put down the National Park Service as governing body only b/c they administer the entire National Register of Historic Places. So, technically correct, but incomplete. My goal is to at least create minimal stubs for all the historic Florida places, and those who know more hopefully can modify and expand.

Dunno much about the Keys, as such. Grew up in Miami, live in Ocala now, and have done a lot of road-tripping around the state. The Keys are on the list to explore more, but not for a while.

I'd recommend these two for more specific Keys info, they seem to be the experts:

Hope this helps! --Ebyabe 17:19, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the source about Benedict Arnold, the antecdote seemed too convienent to be true. If I believed in giving out barnstars, you would get one. Electrawn 14:46, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

As much as I would like to think H&SJ made it to California, it never left the state of Missouri (the only possible reason I can think that it would pop into the California Metsbot was that it carried mail EAST from St. Joseph from the Pony Express. If you think that's strong enough criteria, you can put it back. Otherwise, I've deleted it. Americasroof 00:40, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, that was another weird category thing. I've removed the template from the other pages in that category. —Mets501 (talk) 00:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe that this merits an article separate from that of the high school. Joyous! | Talk 02:21, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

I never cease to be amazed at the malicious vindictiveness here

Hello. You said, I never cease to be amazed at the malicious vindictiveness here. As it would appear that this statement was made in relation to my actions, I would like to respond. The fact is that the overwhelming majority of these school articles cannot meet our verifability policy, nor can they provide reliable sources. Yet, if nominated for deletion, as would be proper, uncited and unsourced support will spring fully-formed from the sea, regardless of whether or not we might have policies and guidelines which might be relevant, and both policy and precedent will be ignored by people who somehow feel validated by having their high school represented on Wikipedia, regardless of whether or not it properly belongs here under our policies and guidelines. Thus, those of us who truly believe in the importance of constructing a legitimate encyclopedia are left but to vandalise. And so we shall. 87.98.217.163 04:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

John Vernou Bouvier III

It is important to keep a cool head, especially when responding to comments against you or your edits. Personal attacks and disruptive comments only escalate a situation; please keep calm and remember that preventive administrative action can be taken against other parties if necessary. Attacking another user back can only satisfy trolls or anger contributors and leads to general bad feeling. Please try to remain civil with your comments. Thanks! --cholmes75 (chit chat) 17:19, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

You should probably reread the comments on John Vernou Bouvier III. They were directed at a process where one editor can unilaterally nuke a article which I think is wrong. At least with the afd process other eyes can evaluate. Americasroof 19:06, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Gerald Ford

When editing, I accidently deleted your most recent changes. Please add back what you changed, but do not revert back, because that will undo what changes I implemented. Hope that makes sense. Veracious Rey talkcontribs 15:07, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

No problem. Editing can get tricky, especially on current events when info changes every five seconds. By the way, if you would like to comment on the last discussion topic on the Ford talk page, I would appreciate it. Veracious Rey talkcontribs 15:30, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
I read your lates post to the discussion. Keep up the good work. We need good editors and people willing to monitor the Gerald Ford page. Too many vandals. That's why I had them semi-protect the page. Veracious Rey talkcontribs 15:14, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I think you made a slightly confused revert to the Arthur Bryant's article. The previous editor removed Harry Truman from the sentence listing celebrities who had visited since the Playboy article (1973), which obviously could not have included Truman, who died in 1972. However, Truman is mentioned above in the same paragraph, as having visited before the Playboy article. Your edit summary was right, but your edit restored Truman to the "since then..." sentence. I changed it back to the previous version, which is correct. Best, --MCB 17:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
