LIRR dates

Yes, Americasroof, I am quite sure of the LIRR dates. The State acquired the capital stock in 1966 and handed over operation to the newly formed MCTA in 1968. By the time of the disastrous Penn Central merger, the LIRR was already gone from the PRR balance sheet. -- Cecropia 06:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Thank you for your contributions, but I have have a couple of comments.

You have turned the history section from prose into a bullet-point list. It is generally considered better style for an encyclopedia article to be in prose, rather than a list of bullet points. Please would you think about turning it back into prose (adding in your additions, of course).

You may also have noticed the "preview" button, which you can use to check an edit before you save it. Although you can edit an article half a dozen times in a row, doing so it makes it more difficult to follow the edit history. -- ALoan (Talk) 16:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your repsonse. I agree that a timeline can be helpful (there is a nifty graphical way to produce them - see John Vanbrugh, Isambard Kingdom Brunel and List of popes (graphical) for examples) but I think the timeline should accompany the prose, not replace it.

I was just pointing it out the "preview" function in case you hadn't noticed it. I often edit the same article more than once, but I try not to do it half a dozen times, where I can help it (but don't look at the edit history for Test cricket hat-tricks or List of Test cricket triple centuries!). -- ALoan (Talk) 14:39, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Catskills as a Robert Moses project?

I don't think that category makes sense. While Moses acquired some of the better land in the Catskill Park (and I really should appropriately rename that article and Adirondack Park since both are officially just known as parks and they aren't state parks in the same way that all of the other state parks are), it was created before he was born.

BTW, are you the same guy whose name I know from other hiking-related fora who runs the americasroof.com site? Daniel Case 16:28, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Robert Moses and New York State Parks

I can find no evidence supporting your addition of Category:Robert Moses Projects to Harriman State Park and Bear Mountain State Park, and I suspect several other parks outside of the NYC area. Would you care to cite a source? Thanks, -- Mwanner | Talk 13:56, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

But "...the state park system was consolidated under Robert Moses in 1924..." [1]. Wikipedi CD

I don't see how this effort is an effort to privatize the material. Rather it is an attempt to spread knowledge in keeping with the general goals of the Wikimedia Foundation. It is an important part of the Wikipedia:One Encyclopedia Per Child (position paper) which is an outgrouth of the One Laptop Per Child - I hope you reconsider Trödel 14:18, 2 June 2006 (UTC)

Missouri in the Civil War

You have recently been working on an impressive menu for Missouri Civil War battles. If you have time, you may want to create a separate article such as Ohio in the Civil War or Pennsylvania in the Civil War covering Missouri. There are also attached categories for these states that you may want to copy for Missouri topics such as people, places, events, monuments, etc. (see Category:Ohio in the Civil War). Truman Annex

I've been working on the list of National Register places in Florida, and got to Monroe County. Don't know the specifics of ownership of the Truman Annex. I put down the National Park Service as governing body only b/c they administer the entire National Register of Historic Places. So, technically correct, but incomplete. My goal is to at least create minimal stubs for all the historic Florida places, and those who know more hopefully can modify and expand.

Dunno much about the Keys, as such. Grew up in Miami, live in Ocala now, and have done a lot of road-tripping around the state. The Keys are on the list to explore more, but not for a while.

I'd recommend these two for more specific Keys info, they seem to be the experts:

Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad

As much as I would like to think H&SJ made it to California, it never left the state of Missouri (the only possible reason I can think that it would pop into the California Metsbot was that it carried mail EAST from St. Joseph from the Pony Express. If you think that's strong enough criteria, you can put it back. Otherwise, I've deleted it. Americasroof 00:40, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

The fact is that the overwhelming majority of these school articles cannot meet our verifability policy, nor can they provide reliable sources. Yet, if nominated for deletion, as would be proper, uncited and unsourced support will spring fully-formed from the sea, regardless of whether or not we might have policies and guidelines which might be relevant, and both policy and precedent will be ignored by people who somehow feel validated by having their high school represented on Wikipedia, regardless of whether or not it properly belongs here under our policies and guidelines. Arthur Bryant's

Hi, I think you made a slightly confused revert to the Arthur Bryant's article. The previous editor removed Harry Truman from the sentence listing celebrities who had visited since the Playboy article (1973), which obviously could not have included Truman, who died in 1972. However, Truman is mentioned above in the same paragraph, as having visited before the Playboy article. Your edit summary was right, but your edit restored Truman to the "since then..." sentence.
