Someone claimed he was using a sock puppet. 205.240.144.220 08:40, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

(Response and you original comment on my talk page.) I'm not entirely sure who that is and what they were talking about. I was falsely accused of using sockpuppets by some editors with a long history of harassing me (User:Elonka, primarily, and some of her standard cohorts) when all it was was that I simply did not bother to sign on most of the time and thus ended up showing up as whatever IP I was on at the time, which was consistently AOL's proxy until I switched to DSL. I believe the harassers also created a "sockpuppet warning" category and tagged it for all my IPs, which first i removed and then an admin, but apparently the attackers put it all back. Not sure if those are all gone finally or not, but if they try to continue on with an attempted RFC or whatever against me, at that time certainly any sane person around who would like to make comments pointing out that the accusations or nonsense (or if you'd like to take it upon yourself to get rid of the false sockpuppet category and IPs labeled as sopckpuppets) but right now there's little need to do anything. I'm sure the anon user who contacted you was trying to help even if he was unclear. DreamGuy 19:59, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:1101530202 400.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:1101530202 400.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 12:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Yea, i think so, or maybe in the Notebook article under an article section.

Would love to help! Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 17:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry about just "vanishing" like that, but real life called (ring ring). I had a look at the PNB article and it is amazing, much better than i could have done, (i was right, you will make a damn good special). Your PNB holder is alot better than mine (mine is black) i also have a Clipboard (the police one in the article)

Anyway, yesterday (Thursday at around 1:00am) i had my last "assignment" as a firearms officer, because as you know i am going back to walking the beat (wanna start a family soon, firearms is a bit dangerous) anyway i was at Manchester Airport waiting for a flight coming from Milan (Man Utd lost) and there were trouble makers on the plane, so we stormed it and made about 20 to 25 arrests.

Sorry for "wofferling" on a bit, but i like to share stories of police work

Yea you would of loved to have been there. I have added some more info to PNB about what to write. Next i reckon we should improve the Hiatts Speedcuffs article, if you want of course, because no doubt you will be using them. Let me know what you think! Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 21:23, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Ill take some better, photo of my cuffs now, because the one in the article shows it in a holster and i don't find that very good. Also if for any reason i go without saying anything, real life calls again! :-) Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 21:39, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Got a photo here Image:Hiatts Speedcuffs.jpg but im off now, sorry. I will be able to work fully on wikipedia tommorow with no interruptions maybe Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 21:54, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

Rigspolitiet[edit]

Hi SGGH. I'm a Dane and IMHO the riot control vehicles are from the local "City of Copenhagen Police". All police vehicles are bought on a national basis by the Rigspolitiet but later handed over to the local police constabularies. Necessary Evil 01:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)

Thank You All
[edit]

It is kind of funny because it really isn't my birthday. It was on March 9, but thank you all for your kind words and support.

As you all know, some hacker cracked my password and I have been stripped of my admin powers. I can understand an admin. being blocked, but stripped of his powers without a fair hearing or consensus, I can't. I have stated that I changed my password and would like my powers back, however the chastizing going on in [[1]] has sadden me. It doesn't matter how many articles you have written, contributions you have made or how many years you have dedicated to making this project a credible one. A hacker, it seems has the power of making people consider you an untrustful person and turning some people in the community against you.

I have never abused of my powers and I have used Wikipedia as a medium to educate others. Yes, I have no regrets about having made so many contributions to the Pedia. I exhort all of my friends here to make sure that their passwords are strong ones so that you will not have to go through what I am going through.

I did promise some of my friend a couple of articles and as a good Marine I will keep my promise. To my friends here, Thank you for your friendship. Tony the Marine 23:44, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm proud of you[edit]

Ben, as you are now well aware, the overwhelming support that I received made up for the negative and disrespectful attitude displayed by User: Tony Sideway. It never occurred to me that a hacker would waste their time hacking passwords in Wkipedia. I fixed my password and gained my admin powers back.

I'm proud of your accomplishments in the Pedia. You have written two FA's and have become an admin. in less then a year. You have done more in your first year then the majority of us who have been here for many years. As I have said before, you are an asset to the project. Tony the Marine 22:22, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Another Award :-O[edit]

A Barnstar!
Dep. Garcia gives SGGH: Golden Speedcuffs "incentive given to existing employees in the hope that they will decide to stay with the company" hoping you will stay here and improve wikipedia the way that you have.

After seeing that you made one with your PNB picture, i thought "great idea".

I hope I didn't make the play on the words: Golden handcuffs, to obvious :-)

I hope you like your new award, and theres plenty more where that came from ;-)

RE: Military history of Oceania[edit]

Yea it seems that all your articles are making FA status :-), as for me knowing about military history, no chance. I only know that Douglas Haig wasn't a butcher (of the Somme), he was merely trying to win and Roosevelt's New Deal didn't end the Depression the War did (the War made the Americans go to work to make guns and bombs for us brits). Apart from that Im sorry I can't help you, but if i see anything I will write it in or mention it to you! Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 17:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Maybe when I retire (im 39, so I have 21 years to go in the force until I reach 60) I will read up on military history and become a buff. :-) Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 17:22, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

In my force it is frowned upon, given that someone could use it and file a false complaint against an officer, and waste police time. I would not mention it at all to anyone, not even my friends (non police officers) know it! Better to stay on the save side! Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 17:01, 11 May 2007 (UTC) Ps. I think its frowned upon but i would have to double check again, last time i checked it was awhile ago.

(I have written this message to all of you, because this it the only way I could think of doing it properly)

Hello, I would like sincerely thank you all dearly for the countless assistance you gave me while I established myself on Wikipedia. I believe that all of the help that you (VirtualSteve, Sarah and SGGH) gave me intertwined perfectly and that you are all ambassadors for Wikipedia. I now feel that I am confident now that I can spread my wings without major help, and I would like to help others someday as you helped me (like Chicken7 for example).

Thankyou all. Harrison-HB4026 10:14, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

P.S. I think that it is time for me to say 'Thankyou for adopting me' and for me to head out into that Wikiworld. Thankyou from the bottom of my heart.

Re: Chat[edit]

Ben, those are things that you have to put up with when you write an FA and it is posted on the main page, I know. That's one of the reasons that I try to not have an FA on the main, I hate the stress. Right now I'm recharging my mental batterires. I'm planning to counterattack PBS's and Ken Burns documentary "The War", which will air in September and which has totally omitted the Hispanic contribution to the WW II effort. I hope to write a really good article in the future to this respect and try to have it FA'ed (even though I'll be stressed out) so that maybe it can be posted on September. I'm in no rush though, I'm in my planning stages. Tony the Marine 00:31, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for your heads up. I've been blocking a lot of Jessica's sockpuppets lately, unfortunately. Since her editing idiom is so distinctive I'm pretty sure other users will be able to tell if it's one of her socks or not with some history page research, and some admins have already declined to unblock a few of them. Cheers, --Fire Star 火星 01:22, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

CMoreschi[edit]

I didn't know *blushes* I only realised after looking at the history of the userpage. However, the autoblock is disabled, so it won't affect Moreschi himself. My mistake, either way! – Riana 14:11, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Forensic Sciences and Law Enforcement[edit]

Hello, I'm the initial author of Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners, a professional association of forensic scientists. It's certainly true that most crime laboratories worldwide are government (law enforcement) entities. But there are many, many independent forensic examiners (not only in the field of firearm and tool marks but in all other forensic science branches). By including the forensic sciences (and their associations) in the Law Enforcement project, the implication is that they are biased in favor of the prosecution. Forensic science embodies a search for the truth, equally to offer evidence as to the guilt of an individual or to uncover evidence that exonerates him. Rockyabq 04:50, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Your block of User:ASHIT ROY CHOWDHURY[edit]

Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=block&page=User:ASHIT_ROY_CHOWDHURY

Hey SGGH! Ashit Roy Chowdhury is actually a Bengali (Indian) name. Would you consider reviewing your block? And I'll add Ashit to the whitelist, I gave H a bunch of Indian names with 'shit' or 'kshit' in them but forgot that one. Regards, Riana 13:34, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

The username's probably borderline anyway in its shoutiness, but still. Riana 13:35, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
H added it to the blacklist as low confidence, but yeah, it's one of those painful ones that will catch people up every now and then. We need more Indian admins ;) Riana 13:58, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Can you keep an eye on the Ángel Ramos (educator) article. re: WP:UAA[edit]

Thanks for the note, but I'm confused. Was this in reference to something specific, or just a general, "hey take a look at WP:UAA from time time to time" kind of thing? In general, if people start vandalizing with blockable usernames I don't like to do a username block, because well, you have to leave new account creation unchecked then and assume good faith. If they seem intent on vandalizing, I like to let them go ahead and do it under their obvious and questionable username, and then get blocked indef for that. If I'm misunderstanding what your message was in reference to, please let me know, because I'm not totally sure. Cheers. Dina 01:13, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Edit to India General Service Medal (1854)[edit]

Re the above, adding the 'Makaland' clasp to the article. Unfortunately your source is incorrect. The 'Makaland 1897' clasp does exist, but was authorised for the India General Service Medal 1895-1902. The IGSM 1854 was superseded by this medal. That's a tremendous job that you've done on the Siege of Malakand though—I'll start an article for the 1895 IGSM within the next day or so, so that we can have everything linked up.
