IP Vandals and Hostile Users?[edit]

It may not matter to others, although you do seem to be a very productive editor, it seems that you have communicated very rarely with IP vandals and other hostile users. In my experience as an administrator, IP vandals are one of the largest problems we have on wikipedia. My vote for the runner up would be brand new members (who likely were IP vandals just before signing in). I think you will make a fine administrator, I just don't have the type of evidence of interaction with relatively hostile editors that I generally look for to give a "support." Regardless, I appreciate your good work in wikipedia and look forward to working with you in an ongoing fashion. Best, Kukini hablame aqui 17:45, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

You are clearly a class-act! Thanks for your response in words and action! Best wishes, Kukini hablame aqui 03:05, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Richard Walter edits[edit]

Thanks for suggesting that we talk about it. I've trying to do just that. However...

Not only has editor 24.240.17.187 repeatedly removed the accurate edits made to the Richard Walter article that I have made, but this individual is also repeatedly removing my attempts to discuss it in the talk section. Clearly, this person is attempting to further the perpetration of fraudulent information in hopes of staving off the inevitable discovery of Walters as a fraud by the public.

See: "The Forensic Fraud Archive", which my company maintains to document such cases. Walter is listed alphabetically at the end, with links to supporting court records.

The acrobat file was obtained from United States District Court, Western District of New York. Just select judge John Elfvin's rulings for March 2006 re: the Drake case. You'll need to select more than 10 documents per page to see it.

My question is how does it work when you have an anonymous editor who continually posts clearly false information - what is the recourse for the serious professional with verified court documents to post? Can anyone just keep ripping them down and posting fraudulent data. Wikipedia is routinely referenced (wrongly in my view) as a source for locating court experts and investigating facts related to an issue. In fact many look no further.

I won't even get into the issue of Richard Walter being a creator of modern profiling as he yet to publish anything but a few scant aticles. The man is a fraud and courts have made their findings on it. Falsely presenting the opposite in Wikipedia is furtherance of the fraud.

Please feel free to contact me directly.

LIBELOUS Content - Richard Walter site[edit]

Bturvey is adding LIBELOUS information to the biography page of Richard Walter

Mr. Turvey is upset because Mr. Walter had blocked his admission to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. To try to get even, Mr. Turvey has created libelous websites and is attempting to vandalize his wikipedia page.

I strongly suggest that the page be LOCKED at the point before Bturvey's vandalism.

To accuse someone of "perjury" and "fraud" is libel.

Please contact me so that we can settle this dispute.

Thank you very much,

User: Buzzle45

I posted to the BLA dispute noticeboard, but I figured I can jump in here too since there was talk off contact someone to get through to arbitration committee or something.
From my look into this dispute I think both sides have points but neither one sees the overall picture at all. Someone is clearly adding info that is trying to promote Richard Walter through unsourced statements or sources that get traced right back to Walter, which are thus not verifiable. Someone else wants tot ry to outright claim that Walter was declared a fraud, but that's not what the court case said... it was a claim by a defense counsel in order to try to overturn a conviction and obviously not an unbiased source -- furthermore the claim made there (that picquerism is a false term not actually used by psychologists) is just complete nonsense.
I made some edits in the past there (and on related pages, like Vidocq Society, of which Walters is a key persona, but d not believe I was signed in at the time. I believe that this dispute can be worked out by following standard NPOV and Verifiability policies.
I tried to read the history of the article to see the specifics of the dispute, but it looks like they all got wiped out in a delete or something. If I saw specifics I think I could give more specific comments. I suspect from what I have seen in the various comments that the two people who posted above are simply very dedicated and very opinionated and neither one is in the right on this situation. Errr... you posted someothing on my talk page thanking me for letting you know about your admin status.... other than posting so you'd maybe check your talk page and coincidentally see that, that's not what I did. Drop down box[edit]

Hi SGGH . Here's a basic drop down box. For some reason this box seems to start as "hide" which is something that perhaps needs to be looked into by someone with more understanding of it than me. Meaning it takes two clicks at first. You can replace the pages I've added as an example Mozambican war of independence WP:NPOV, WP:NOR with as many pages as you like. The Cuba drop down box was basically adapted from that, though it uses templates. I'm not sure if templates are allowed merely for user space. -- Zleitzen(talk) 18:41, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

You're a sysop![edit]

Hi, SGGH/Archive4, Congratulations on Becoming a Sysop!

Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, ban anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on articles for deletion (provided there's a consensus) for more than one week, protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.

Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»=
PS Please add you name to WP:LA!

Re: Harold Gilber Miller[edit]

Sorry to bother you, its just that I'm not sure what I did wrong. The link I used was the same link that was listed on the Cross of Valour (Canada) page and all the other Canadian Civil bravery decorations and is a government site. Is it because I used a direct quote from the site?, I just figured because it was his official citation it was ok. Also, if it is a copyright infringement I didn't know but I did use the same source for Vaino Olavi Partanen I hate the idea of losing my work but I don't wan't to break the rules. I made a request for semi-protection at WP:RPP which you declined claiming the article is still protected. In the future, please check the page logs to see if it is truly protected. {{unb}}[edit]

Hi SGGH! Mainly WP:DENY, plus a dash of "not making work for people". If you look, you'll see usernames that fall foul of our policies (websites, famous people etc) get a tag from me.

But names that are self-evident trolling or vandalism in and of themselves (Johnny the Boring Vandal has been active today; we've had a run of User:I LIKE TO SUCK COCK-style nonsense this morning) don't get tagged; the vandal knows why they've been blocked so don't need me to tell them; we don't need another "temporary userpage" creating just for someone to delete it in a couple of weeks; and there's no need to give the vandal the mental masturbation they seek from seeing their page go from red to blue in a list.

Well, that's my reasoning, anyway. In short: for non-good-faith usernames, the extra steps seem pointless. But your mileage may vary and you might even be right! Not that I'm going to change or anything :o)

Cheers and happy editing! RΞDVΞRSЯΞVΞЯSΞ 15:30, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

QXZ-Ads[edit]

Hi. I have a problem with my user page (and I think VS does too). The problem is that sometimes the qxz ads that VS and I have added to my user page aren't always showing up when they should. I looked into the problem by reading the qxz-ads blurb and it all it said that was of any use to me was that the 'ads' were created by two people named User:Gurch and User:AzaToth. I looked into Gurch's and AzaToth's userpages and I found out in Gurch's userpage that he was caught for sock puppeting, he was revoked as an administrator and therefore no longer editing and no longer making ad's. AzaToth's page was of no use to me. Would the fact that they are no longer being made create a problem? If not do you know anything about it? Thanks Harrison- HB4026 07:27, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Ernest Emerson and Law Enforcement Project[edit]

Hello.

I put this article as under the scope of the law enforcement project as Ernest is a POST instructor (Police Officer Standards and Training), writer and editor of American Cop Magazine, and various Emerson Combat Systems courses are taught only to police officers. Furthermore, several of Ernest's knives were designed specifically for police officers (article mentions Police Search and Rescue, Viper 1 and 2...but there are also the La Griffe and Police Utility Knife) and he has written knife carry and usage policy for a number of Police Departments, Huntington Beach and Ontario PD are cited as well as being an expert witness for Los Angeles County's DA office regarding knives and knife fighting.

Why would you think it's not in the project's scope? It's your call, but I do think it has some merit.Mike Searson 13:09, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

IPs with only 1 edit and not proper warnings[edit]

While we normally do not block IPs that only have 1 edit and have not been warned, when the edit is inviting a user to "drop dead", that is enough to justify a block. Also, if an person is doing the same thing on many ips, they are considered warned. I am letting you know this because I went and blocked 86.132.89.153 for that post, and I wanted to explain why I did that after you dismissed it from AIV. Keep up the good work. HighInBC(Need help? Regarding this: [1]. I was reported, and you removed me... thank you, by the way... The anon in question has made many cross posts on people's talk pages and placed the normal user talk warnings ({{blatantvandal}}, etc.) on the Fred Thompson talk page. Many of us (Orangemike, EE, Nibbles) have tried to explain ourselves, but he or she is persistant. Anyway, I just thought I'd say something in my defense. Oh, ʻaʻole pilikia! I understand you have to do what's necessary. I just thought I'd shoot you a note of explanation, not a complaint or request. Although, I would hope that you actually look into the specifics if you are going to block a reported user (rather than see the final warning and immediately block). I assume that's what you do, so I was giving you a heads up in case this user filed more reports about the Thompson page. Mahalo nui loa. --Ali'i 20:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

In The News[edit]

Hi, regarding the comment in this edit, bottom line - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia not a newspaper. If you want to report breaking news our sister project Wikinews is the place to go.

In The News is a place to highlight substantially updated encyclopedia articles that are the current focus of the World media. So the first place to stop by for your item would probably be one of the Iraq war articles. The details could be added there in the usual fashion, then the update can be listed at Portal:Current events. After that then if the item passes ITN's criteria it can be suggested on the page where you left the edit note.

If you have any questions about the often confusing In The News section that you can't work out from the myriad of the project's pages let me know. :) --Monotonehell 11:26, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

LOL well actually Wikinews was forked from Wikipedia's In The News a while ago, Which meant that In The News had to find a new role, so that we didn't tread on Wikinews's toes. Cheers! --Monotonehell 11:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

I want to share this with you[edit]

The FA was really great, but something amazing happened yesterday. Something that I want to share with some of my closest friends in Wikipedia.

User: Murcielago inspired me to write the List of Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients. As a consequence together with User:ERcheck, I went and wrote the bios that had red links. One of the bios that I wrote was of David M. Gonzales who was posthumously awarded the MoH in World War II after he saved five men that were buried by digging them out with his bare hands. One day I recieved an e-mail from the daughter of one of the men whom he saved. She wanted me to help her find the family of David M. Gonzales because her father, who is in ill health, always dreamed of thanking the Gonzales family.

I told her that I would do everything within my power to help her in her quest, but the truth is that I had no idea on how the hell I could do this.

I wrote letters and made phone calls trying to locate the family. I did everything possible, I even had a plea published in one of the a magazines that I write for (I'm running the Hispanic MoH series in Somos Primos). Nothing! I even got in touch with the Pentagon. The dying soldiers family has become close to and even offered to pay my expenses to Atlanta, Georgia for an interview.

Finally, today after months of searching, the niece of David M. Gonzales got in touch with me. They too want to get in touch with the dying soldiers family. You can't imagine the satisfaction that I feel uniting these two families for an event that occurred 62 years ago. This is an amazing story that might make the press in the future. It feels really good when you can make a difference in the lives of people whom you've never met. Tony the Marine 14:33, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Well sorry for that because I was expecting some of the Indian administrators(There are many on Wikipedia) to figure out what it means and block it..Next time I'll write down as 2 exactly why they should be deleted..Thanx..--Cometstyles 14:27, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Re:Colombian Civil War[edit]

I like it already. I was wondering, why don't write your article first in your "workshop" and after you're done post it? That way you can avoid the constent interuptions of others with their editing and such until your work is done.

I'll be working on "Hispanic Admirals in the US Navy" and later on "Hispanic graduates of the US Naval Academy" as requested by The Pentagon. Tony the Marine 15:48, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

  • Now I understand why you prefer to do it this way instead of first writing in a workshop, sounds good to me.

Didn't I tell you about the Pentagon? I received this e-mail from Rear Admiral DeLoach from the Pentagon:

"Tony the Marine, The honor is mine to speak to such a dedicated patriot, educator, and writer. I marvel at your ability to collect, research, and synthesize vast of amount of material into great stories and articles about our cultural heritage. You are truly performing a great service for the future generations of our Country..."

They want me to help them in a project to inspire the Hispanic youth to further their educational goals by providing positive role models. Pretty cool, huh? Why me? I'll be damn if I know, but I said O.K. Tony the Marine 17:41, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Re:Russian-Circassian War[edit]

I agree with you all the way. Put it up for "A" , sometimes peer review isn't very helpful. Whenever you want a real down to earth opinion in regard to an article go to User:SandyGeorgia. That's the best peer review that you can receive. Tony the Marine 19:12, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Re: Barnstar[edit]

Why, thanks! :) I never know what to say, so I should probably shush up before I do the usual self-deprecating dance. Appreciated. I'll look forward to seeing you around the wiki. – Luna Santin (talk) 22:02, 14 April 2007 (UTC)

Autographs[edit]

Nice! The cool thing is that you know that person was nice enough to give "you" his time and that makes it personal. It is even nicer when you establish a friendship with a celeb. Here's a tip. If there is someone that you really want to meet, call the hotels and try to find out where they are staying. Before you go to the hotel (about noon is the best time, they have to go out for lunch!) dress up like a millionaire (That way security won't dare to kick you out) and wait in the lobby. Once you see the person approach him/her very slowly and introduce yourself. After you tell them what a big fan you are and you get your autograph, tell them (if they are from out-of-town) that you would be more then willing to show them around. It worked for me and I have established a lot of good friendships. Tony the Marine 17:59, 15 April 2007 (UTC)

  • You'll be traveling the same time that I will. Where are you going? Anyway, here is a list of some autographs and people I've befriended User:Marine 69-71/Autographs. Have a nice trip. Tony the Marine 16:04, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Motto of the day[edit]

Have a look at this. (Mine is the 'You Can Do It!' one). Do you think it is Motto of the Day Material? If you do could you support it for me but if you don't I want you to oppose it. Thanks Harrison-HB4026 02:48, 18 April 2007 (UTC) ) 15:12, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

The Image[edit]

The picture was taken at Camp Lejuene, in North Carolina the day after the New York Mets won the 1969 World Series. Since I'm from N.Y., I wanted the loveable losers, the Mets to win. I bought the newspaper and had the picture taken. A month later, I was sent to Nam. Thirty years later, I heard that Tom Seaver, who pitched in the Series for the Mets, was here in Arizona. I went to meet him and I took the image with me. When I showed him the picture, he was impressed. It so happened that he too was once a Marine. He not only signed a bunch of things for me, but he also signed the picture and wrote his military serial number. We became friends. When I come back, I'll tell about Nam from the perspective of a 19 year old. Tony the Marine 05:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

AIV - Regarding 91.105.170.98[edit]

Hi there, I'm just wondering why, despite this user not having a final warning, you felt it inappropriate to block them. Their edits have all been attacks against a single user and I do not believe they will take note of a final warning any more than the other warnings. It would seem a sensible suggestion, based upon the targeted nature of the edits, that this is probably a sockpuppet of another user whom User:Pigsonthewing has had dealings in the past. Adambro 15:06, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

StatisticianBot[edit]

Hi. I am wondering why you blocked StatisticianBot as a username violation; the account is actually for a bot that I am in the process of creating. I created the account, as per WP:B/RFA guidelines, so that I could create a description page to submit for approval. Please advise as to how to proceed, thanks. —Daniel Vandersluis(talk) 15:50, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

No need to worry about this any longer; Netsnipe has verified the bot belongs to me and has unblocked it. Thanks —Daniel Vandersluis(talk) 17:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I know but the user (Daniel Vandersluis) didnt create it from his account and thats why I reported it..Thanks for Blocking him for no reason..hehe ..--Cometstyles 18:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I didn't realize at the time that there was a difference between creating a new account while logged in and creating a new account while logged out, which seems to be the case. Oh well, no harm done. —Daniel Vandersluis(talk) 18:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Nah..I enjoy being criticized by everyone..hehe..and don't worry you can always contact me if I tag someone wrongly ..Cheers..--Cometstyles 18:20, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm back[edit]

Hi SGGH, I'm back! What a trip, 8 days non-stop. Sure, I'll look at your new FA candidate, later today. Not only would I would be honored if you modeled a character after me., but I believe that it would be an honor for all Puerto Ricans to have a character in your story since their contributions in WW II is a subject totally ingnored by the history books in the US. See you later. Tony the Marine 18:44, 26 April 2007 (UTC)

RE: Specials[edit]

Well done, I didn't know you were that young :-). Anyway I hope you enjoyed your trip and I have decided that being a firearms officers is a bit, well boring (for lack of a better word) and I have decided to go back out on the beat (in my patrol car) with my partner.

And remember this:

Out here ("there"), everybody lies.

Out on the street, every non-police person you come in contact with will lie to you. The criminals will lie to you because they have to. The victims will lie to you out of embarrassment, to hide their own criminal activity, and to hide all the stupid things they did that led to their being victimized in the first place. Witnesses and other citizens will lie to you just for fun. Always know and just accept that you are never, ever being told the whole story.

Best regards

Cybercity Message[edit]

Dear SGGH: Regarding the Bio information I have attempted to delete a couple of times...This girl is really trying to get her past behind her and using her birth name on the information page does nooone any good. If it was a criminal record, she could take some sort of legal action. I know that you are just trying to keep the page accurate and I understand the precedent. But Wikipedia is really not supposed to be a porn information site. Yes, I know the free speech rationale. But this is a person's life we are talking about. Rather than exploring (and spending money) on some kind of legal remedy or injunction, can't we just take her birth name off and rely solely on her stage name? It is the right thing to do.

I welcome your feedback.
