Review

Hi Yunshui and thank you for the interesting read at Bonsho. If you have the time, I'd be very grateful if you could visit my nomination of Oriental Film and critique the article. No worries if you can't, of course. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 10:21, 14 September 2014 (UTC)

I've just done so - jolly interesting. Yunshui  09:18, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Thank you right kindly. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:21, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Least I could do after that helpful review at the Bonsho FA. Yunshui  09:24, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
  • If you've got anything else forthcoming, just give me a ping. It's nice to have more Asia-related articles coming through (and Japan's getting some decent representation this year: Departures, ukiyo-e, and Katsudō Shashin... bonshō is in good company) — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:27, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I plan on putting Morihei Ueshiba out there at some point, but that probably won't be until next year some time; it needs a good deal of work to make the jump from GA to FA. Still, I'll be all up in your talkpage as soon as I get around to nomming it. Yunshui  09:30, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
  • Very worthy subject. I look forward to it. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 09:34, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello Yunshui,

thank you for your prompt answer. I will go ahead with the changes and see what happens and, should this be the case, I'll be happy to further discuss about it with the community.

Have a nice day! --Ema vinadio (talk) 07:52, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Best of luck; feel free to drop me a line if you need a hand with anything. Yunshui  07:53, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Philosopher in meditation / getting credit

Dear Yunshui, thank you for your prompt response and also for all the time that you are devoting to Wikipedia. Myself, although I have authored two articles (on the same painting) am a modest contributor and quite slow in my comprehension of how the Wikipedia system functions, in general and in detail. I am the sole author/editor of the articles on the "Philosopher in Medtation", as far as the actual content is concerned (not the technical issues). I created the user name "Faustus III" for the English version, "Jan van der Zone" for the French. As this made for some confusion , I merged the two identities. The confusion has remained to some extent (for example: when I log in, I always get French, which is of course understandable). Should I create an account in my real name to end this state of affairs? As for getting the credit nominally, this would be a help, since I have other publication projects regarding this painting and it is good to be known. How can this be done (in both languages)? Thank you in advance for your attention to this. --Jan van der Zone 10:37, 19 September 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jan van der Zone (talkcontribs)

I see. You may want to make the relationship between your two accounts more explicit (in line with the policy on multiple accounts), although since you seem to have abandoned the Faustus III one a few years back this probably isn't strictly necessary.
As far as attribution goes, when you add text to Wikipedia you agree to release it under the CC-BY-SA licence used by Wikipedia, which states that a hyperlink or URL is adequate attribution. Anyone viewing the page has access to the page history, and so can see the contributions you've made under both accounts. If you would like these contributions attributed to your real-life identity, then the simplest thing by far would be to add a note to the userpages of these two accounts identifying yourself. I would imagine the same would hold true on fr-wiki, although you should probably ask there to be sure.
One final note worth considering; if you duplicate (or adapt) the text that you've added to Wikipedia in other publications, you are obliged to release the text in those publications under the same CC-BY-SA licence as Wikipedia. This doesn't mean you can't charge for it, but it does mean that others can freely reuse your work. By the same token, if any of the Wikipedia text you've added was previously present in another publication, the licence for that publication will need to be amended to CC-BY-SA to allow the content on Wikipedia to remain. Revdel

Could I get these two edits on my talk page deleted? Thanks. G S Palmer (talkcontribs) 12:40, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Goodness yes. Revdel'd and oversight requested. I think I might leave the young chap a message about the inadvisability of such actions in the future. Yunshui  12:46, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 20

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Bruno Fehrenbacher, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Buckfast. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Regarding my question a few days ago at the help desk

You said that some textbooks, like advanced level are appropriate right? So are GCSE/IGCSE level science textbooks also fine as a source of my research? I'm just wondering as I'm still confused. Thanks. The Chemistry Bookworm (talk) 01:07, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Been a while since I took GCSEs, but from what I recall of the textbooks they would probably be suitable sources. However, you might do better to check your textbooks' bibliographies and work from those instead; the books and papers listed there are likely to be even better. Yunshui  06:57, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Yunshui. The Chemistry Bookworm (talk) 07:49, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Philosopher in meditation / Credit (part 3)

Dear Yun Shui,

I will do as you suggest: mention the credit info on my user page(s), although I imagine Faustus III does not exist anymore...

I used two pseudonyms to keep the two article projects (English and French) distinct (for me), and so without fraudulent intent. If I wanted to create an account in my own name and terminate the pseudonym(s), what would I have to do?

What I wrote for Wikipedia does not "duplicate" any previously published material of mine, nor will I duplicate what I have written there in future publications.

Thank you again for your diligent help, Jean-Marie Clarke, alias --Jan van der Zone 09:42, 22 September 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jan van der Zone (talkcontribs)

What you'll need to do is make a change of username request. I think that if you list both of your prior accounts then a bureaucrat can redirect both of them to a new username, although only one of the accounts can actually be renamed. Yunshui  09:48, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Shrabani Priyadarsini Giri and ACC #126312

Hi, may you please let me know the username of the creator of an article (Shrabani Priyadarsini Giri), you recently deleted? I need to know because I think, it can help me better handling the request #126312 at ACC. You may post the username there or here. Thank you, -Anupmehra -Let's talk! 00:33, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

@Anupmehra: That one was created by User:Raj shravani - the text was some sort of love-letter, no chance of it ever being revised into an actual article. Yunshui  06:48, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much. It was helpful. Anupmehra -Let's talk! 12:43, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

you are in wrong!!!!!!!

My article on Niccolò Insenga has been deleted by you, why?? Niccolò Insenga is a real person and he is an Actor so I know him I am him Friend but you delete that so WHY?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LordSkrill (talkcontribs) 14:32, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Being a real person is not sufficient qualification for a Wikipedia article (I'm pretty sure I'm real, and I sure as hell don't merit an article here). The criteria for inclusion of actors are laid out here. Note the phrases like "significant roles", "large fanbase" and "unique contribution". From what I have seen, I do not believe that Niccolò Insenga has made enough of an impact on the world that Wikipedia would host an article about him. Even if he had, as his personal friend, you should not be the one to write it. Yunshui  14:36, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello!

Hi Yunshui, how are you?--Skr15081997 (talk) 14:44, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

Tolerably well (bit of a cold), thanks for asking. Anything I can do for you? Yunshui  14:47, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
I have been here for 11 months. All of it has been a nice and learning experience. Now, I intend to take a break of 4 to 6 months to focus on my real life work. What do you suggest?--Skr15081997 (talk) 15:21, 23 September 2014 (UTC)
I keep intending to do that - take a break, work on my books, do some studying - never seems to happen... You don't really need to do anything as far as Wikipedia's concerned; you could stick a {{wikibreak}} template on your talkpage so people know you aren't around, but beyond that, just take the time out and come back when you're ready. DYK's going to be quiet without you... Enjoy your break; see you next year, I hope? Yunshui  07:08, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Niccolò Insenga

Can you Restore the entire page without my errors please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LordSkrill (talkcontribs) 14:55, 23 September 2014 (UTC)

It's not so much that there were any mistakes which caused the deletion, more that he isn't yet a viable subject for Wikipedia. I'll give you my standard offer for A7 deletions: if you can provide me with three newspaper or magazine articles about Niccolò Insenga, each from a nationally-circulated publication and each containing at least one paragraph of more than 100 words devoted to him, I will not only undelete the page, but I'll add the references (correctly formatted), expand and copyedit it for you, and do any wikification that's required. If I were to restore it in its previous form, however, it would only be a matter of minutes before another admin deleted it again. Yunshui  07:13, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

User page needs a pair of eyes

Hi Yunshui. Could you take a look at this user page. I'm rather concerned about the contents re BLP. The editor posted the same material at Talk:Composer, which I've removed [1]. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 15:12, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Blanked already. They haven't edited since, so I'm hoping they've now got the message. I don't see the need to do anything at this point, but I've watchlisted the page and will do the necessary if they start up again. Yunshui  08:15, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. This morning I saw that another editor had blanked it. I probably could have too, but not being an admin, I generally only blank in cases of copyvio. Best, Voceditenore (talk) 11:12, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Adoption of Tamravidhir

Your had a big notice above, while I was typing this, which asked me, "Did I delete your page?". And my answer is, "No, you did not". :P

Now I won't 'bout the bush. But come to the point. :D Hi! I am Tamravidhir (this is just my nom de plume, and not my real name)! I have been Wikipedia since Christmas Eve 2011. Till now I have created a few articles (though I am not happy with any one of them, and have abandoned them, I mean I have not been keeping track of them now), I have promoted one article to GA and have made more than 8,500 edits, but if to speak the truth I am really very inexperienced and I would love you to mentor me. Please be my mentor! I would love you to be my mentor. While replying here please leave a talkback template on my talk page (and if you go through my userpage please don't mind, well this would seem to weird and bad as one may feel I give more importance to my userpage than my work, but it's really bad and not good, as it's under construction. I mean that I am working on it. But please help me! Please be my mentor. I will be grateful to your for my entire life. Yes! --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:49, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Tamravidhir. I'm flattered that you'd ask me to mentor you, but if I'm perfectly honest, I'm not sure what you'd gain from it. You're already a competent editor, with thousands of edits to your name, about 45 articles created, rollback rights and a couple of GAs to your name. You've got a pretty clear handle on most of Wikipedia's important policies, and you seem to be getting good advice on areas which you aren't so clear on, such as WP:RS. About the only area that you might need help with is in your interactions with other editors, and even then, you can hold your own.
I don't really think there's much general stuff I can teach you, so there's no real point in my taking you on as an adoptee. However, I'd be more than happy to lend you a hand in an unofficial capacity - you're more than welcome to make me your first port of call with any questions you have or whenever you need a neutral third-party in a dispute. In that respect, I'd be more than happy to pitch in and help you out. Yunshui  10:04, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
No you have a lot to teach me. That's my problem, it seems that I am very competent but am not actually. And before you adopt me I would also like to confess something, I have sometimes nearly got involved in an edit war (not recently), and when I had come for the first time, I don't know but I don't know I read it or someone told me (may be a vandalism or don't know) that IP address users can be tracked and tried. And whenever a IP address user would vandalise I would not be too polite, and sometimes too bad, and say that may be taken to court, tried, and tracked, because I was confused between all the copyright issues, the policies, the laws and everything and when I understood them somewhat, I stopped, and today when I was going through all my edits, I saw what a dumb, stupid and idiot am I that I used to be so bad to those IP users, though in the last 2 years I have never done anything to any IP address user. And I was forced to rephrase all the messages. But though now I am much more polite (well, I think so) and I cooperate with others, and am even helped by the awesome administrators. My past was really bad, only the first 6 months though. Now, I am not like that but all these rules, copyrights all these appear vague to me. This was my confession. Now the decision is up to you. I won't mind if you don't adopt me. I won't force you. Thank you Yunshui, my heart feels less burdened now! --Tamravidhir (talk) 10:09, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
Yes you are true, I have to work on the way I interact with other editors. :( --Tamravidhir (talk) 10:12, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

My point exactly - you were a bit of a screw-up in your early days, but you sorted yourself out and now know what you're doing. History is history on Wikipedia - whilst your previous actions are all logged, they don't get held against you unless you carry on with the same behaviour. Everyone here has stuff in their history that they aren't proud of, but the better editors among us learn from their mistakes and don't repeat them.

Tell you what, why don't you give me a list of the areas you feel you struggle with, and I'll try and tailor something to help you understand them a little better? Yunshui  10:40, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Well that's quite a big list! But...hmm...I will try to list them in the following list:
  • The things you need to know when you are editing articles on television channels, television shows (telenovelas, soap operas, etc.) and films - I edit a lot of such articles. For instance, most of edits (more than 500) belong to the article Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Zindagi (TV channel) is also catching up fast.
  • I regularly hear terms such as "peacock terms", "WP Burden".
  • Then about the maintenance tags (when to add them, when to remove them and so on) such as cn tag, better source needed tag
  • About reliable sources
  • How to make a list more reliable and encyclopaedic
  • About general notability
  • The main pillars of Wikipedia
  • What to add and what not to in disambiguation pages (Should they have names/topics which don't have a Wiki article?)
  • What to do with unreferenced infos/such infos with a cn tag - Should they be removed? What if I know they are correct and yet there's no reference available
  • And especially about all the copyright issues.
  • When to add non-free images? How can they be acceptable?
  • What to do if some rule stops me to do something which may be correct/required?
  • How to fight with vandalism? How to be more civil and polite with vandals and too stubborn editors? How to notify them?
  • And whatever else I should know...

This list is too big! But that's all I think I must know. As yet I can't recall anything else!:/ --Tamravidhir (talk) 10:57, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Wow, that's a lot. I'm going to set up a separate talkpage to deal with all those, so you may want to watchlist User talk:Yunshui/Answers to Tamravidhir over the next few days... Yunshui  11:19, 26 September 2014 (UTC)
Oh! Thank you so much! You are taking so much of pain to help me! This reminds me of John Ruskin's What is a Good Book?, where he says, "The living lord may assume courtesy, the living philosopher explain his thought to you with considerable pain; but here we neither feign nor interpret; you must rise to the level of our thoughts if you would be gladdened by them, and share our feelings, if you would recognise our presence...No ambition is of any use. They scorn your ambition. You must love them and show your love by a true desire to be taught by them, and to enter their thoughts..."
Thank you! Thank you so so so so much Yunshui! --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:37, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Niccolò Insenga

YOU DELETED MY PAGE ARTICLE ON THE FAMOUS BOY ACTOR Niccolò Insenga THIS IS SO STUPID IN MY OPINION BUT IF YOU DELETED IT THAT COULD BE OK BUT THE A7 MOTIVATION WAS VERY VERY VERY IDIOT! WHEN AN ADMIN REMOVE A PAGE ARTICLE WITH A7 IS BECAUSE THE ARTICLE DOES NOT SAY WHY THE PERSON IS KNEW, BUT I'VE WROTE IT (NICCOLO' INSENGA IS AN ITALIAN BOY ACTOR) NORMALLY A BOY DOES NOT DO ACTOR SO ON WIKIPEDIA THERE ARE ONLY EXSPECIAL PEOPLE AND HIM HAS EXSPECIAL, SO IF YOU DELETE IT IT MAY BE OK BUT I DON'T KNOW

LORDSKRILL TRIUMPH User:LordSkrill TriumphLordSkrill (talk) 14:31, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Shouting doesn't mean I'm likely to take you any more seriously, you know... If you disagree with the deletion, you are very welcome to file for deletion review, or to request undeletion. However, simply being both a child and an actor is not, by definition, notable - my daughter acted in a school play recently, so under those criteria she's worthy of an article here. (She isn't, by the way.) Child actors have their place on Wikipedia (there are over a thousand American ones listed, and that's just a small sample of the full number), but all of them are (or should be, at least) notable for their work - they have been covered in reliable sources. One last time: read this page, provide the sources it mentions, and hey presto! Mr Insega gets a Wikipedia article. No sources, no article. Capisce? Yunshui  14:39, 26 September 2014 (UTC)

Adoptee

Hi Yunshui, my purpose for contacting you is that I am seeking to be adopted. I'm new to Wikipedia and there are aspects of it I am not familiar with. Currently my draft is under review. I tried to pattern it like the ones I saw of other authors but couldn't figure out how to upload the picture and provide the other data that is found underneath it. I appreciate any help you can offer. --Content Legacy (talk) 15:31, 27 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi Content Legacy. Before I make a decision, I'd like to ask you something - do you have any ambition on Wikipedia beyond writing about Suzette R. Hinton? It's fine if you don't - and I'll gladly give you a hand with your draft whatever your reply - but if you're only here to write that article then adoption isn't the best option for you. If you just need help writing your article, then I'm happy to talk you through that process; if you're planning on sticking around after it's finished and doing other stuff here, then adoption's not such a bad idea. Redaction of email on my talk page

You recently redacted an email address another user posted on my talk page. Just curious about why. It seemed to me like an attempt to get my email address (phishing) so I have no intention of using it. I was just wondering if there is any specific reason for the redaction. - - MrBill3 (talk) 13:26, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi MrBill3. I was responding to an email that user had sent to OTRS (you'll probably be hearing from them again before long, by the way, but they seem to have legitimately misunderstood how things work here, and they seem pretty open to having someone explain). I saw the email address while I was looking into their edits - generally I'll always redact full email addresses out of courtesy, since splashing your address over Wikipedia is the equivalent of shouting, "Hey! Spam me!" to the various web crawlers used by less-than-scrupulous marketing outfits. Seemed mean to leave it there. Cheers, Yunshui  13:32, 29 September 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. I agree with your edit and appreciate the courtesy you are showing a novice user. Clearly no one needs the spam, nor the compromise of anonymity. Best. - - MrBill3 (talk) 14:21, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

Just curious

Yunshui, on this talkpage you stated that this user moved a page maliciously. I'm not so sure it was, and I question that text. He doesn't appear to have good english skills (his edit summaries, when he uses them are very small, and even then, he has syntax errors that suggest english is not his native language, his userpage was set up with very little text on it, had mis-spellings and some syntax errors suggesting, again , English wasn't his first language ). Yes, I know he's moved his page twice, and he's been told, but if he didn't understand what he was told, would that be malicious ? No, I don't know him, and no I don't support the user page into wiki move he did either, but I don't think there's evidence that it was malicious. Seeking adoption for Japanese performance art editing and article creation

Hello Yunshui!

I am a new Wikipedia editor. I signed up last week and have made my first edits on the Min Tanaka and Butoh articles.

The adoptee forum page shows that you are accepting adoptees. Your interests seem to compliment the project I am working on. My main goal at the moment is to create a Wikipedia page for my mentor and former graduate school faculty instructor, Shinichi Iova-Koga. After that, I will create one for his award-winning dance theater company inkBoat, which is already mentioned in the article on Butoh.

I have a fair amount of editing and writing experience for publication, but Wikipedia appears to be a whole other animal. I have already started working on small edits to build my street cred and have begun gathering my reputable sources. A little guidance, however, would be lovely.

You seem to know what's going on, friend. As long as you don't mind my fierce defense of American English ;-) I think you would be a great Wiki-Dad for me!

Warm regards, Meganalli (talk) 19:32, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Well, dance isn't really my arena (personally I take a greater interest in movement systems that damage other people...), but I'd be up for taking you on board, despite your defence of a spelling system that jars my nerves. You look as though you've got the hang of basic editing, though based on your edits so far I'd caution you to read WP:WORDS, WP:NPOV and probably WP:COI before taking on the articles you've suggested. Welcome to the adoption program! Yunshui  07:01, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

please look at my page and let me know if it's "ready"

I am a college administrator making pages for UC Berkeley alumni. My first page is for Jeremy Bamidele. Can you please look at it and let me know what you think?Orujah123 (talk) 02:25, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

I prize honesty, so I'm going to be blunt - it's not even close to being an appropriate article for Wikipedia. Quite apart from the issues with formatting, and the fact that it's little more than a CV, the main issue is that there is not a single source in there which attests to Bamidele's notability. You've included lots of articles that he's written, but these are instantly disregarded because a) they say nothing about him and b) he wrote them. The only other sources are passing mentions or list entries. What you need, before even starting to write an article, is a collection of sources which:
  • provide significant coverage of the subject
  • have been reliably published by major media outlets
  • are independent of the subject: i.e. not written by the subject or anyone close to the subject.
An explanation of the meaning or these terms can be found here. Without such sources, there is no evidence that Bamidele passes Wikipedia's baseline criteria for inclusion, and as such, we should not have an article on him here. Wikipedia is not a biographical dictionary - we neither need nor want entries on anyone and everyone. Having searched for sources myself, I would suggest that Bamidele is not, in fact, a suitable subject for Wikipedia, and if it is your intent to create multiple pages of this sort I would strongly suggest you reconsider. Help needed

Thank you so much Yunshui for helping me...but I will take some time to go through them (after which I will create a handbook, as I said) and I will need some more time also because I am going to take a Wikibreak from 4 September 2014, for nearly a week. But I need another help from you...:P. Actually I just loved your userpage...I simply loved it! And I am prsently revamping my userpage and I would love to use the same layout...and when viewing your source I saw that you have adapted it from another userpage (even that one's nice)...but you know what...I actually can't understand this source and cannot edit it. You can visit my sandbox #2 where I'm drafting it. See like you have "talk, about me..." on the right hand side, placed vertically one after another....I wan't it to be placed on the sky (if you see the pic then you will be able to see it above the hills/mountains) placed horizontally one after another but I couldn't do this anyhow. Could you please help me? If you get time then could you please edit that page (I won't mind at all if you do so...if to say then more than being annoyed I will be infinity% more happy)...I feel that my present userpage is not as good as I hope this to be...please could you help me? --Tamravidhir (talk) 16:25, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

Possibly, but populated places such as villages tend to be kept anyway. Yunshui  09:25, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Okay, gotcha! Thank you...^_^ --Tamravidhir (talk) 09:31, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Unblock Comment

Hey Yunshuni. Do you think you could unblock User:19mspyker so I can show him the ropes of the wiki?Mirror Freak My Guestbook 14:38, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Given the that he hasn't posted anything close to a satisfactory unblock request, and more importantly, given that he appears to be claiming his account is compromised: no way in hell, I'm afraid. Generally speaking, if a blocked user wants to be unblocked they need to dig themselves out; it's not advisable to go around advocating on their behalf. Yunshui  14:43, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I didn't think it would happen anyway. An I totally agree with you.Mirror Freak My Guestbook 14:45, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Continuing to vandalise after expiry of block

Hello Yunshui. This IP has resumed their career as a vandal after a temporary block. Question, do we start again with a sequence of 4 warnings?: Noyster (talk), 12:05, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

No need; it's clearly the same person. Blocked the IP for a week. Yunshui  12:11, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Page on Ulrich Drepper

The redlink page on Ulrich Drepper mentioned that you deleted the page as per a previous discussion on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ulrich Drepper. Interestingly, the same person seems to have a page on the German Wikipedia and French Wikipedia, among others. Do you think a translation of one of those (I can translate French) stands a good chance of not being deleted? I ask because he is a notable figure in the Free and open-source software community. (And I haven't contributed a page in a long time). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gingerjoos (talkcontribs) 12:51, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

In principle I've certainly nothing against recreating an article about him, but I don't think either the French or German versions would survive over here in their current state - both of them seem to rely heavily on non-independent sources or trivial mentions. You'd need to hunt down a couple of reliable, independent sources with significant coverage of Drepper before an article here would stand a chance. If you can do that, then I'd say go for it. Yunshui  08:08, 7 October 2014 (UTC)
Sounds good. I will give it a shot. Thanks! Gingerjoos (talk) 17:35, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Adoption.

Hey Yunshui,

I'd like you to be my adopter, Can you adopt me please?

o: I

(Russell.mo (talk) 05:29, 5 October 2014 (UTC))

Before I agree, I'd like to know a little more about what you plan on doing on Wikipedia. To date, you've made over a hundred edits, but not a single one of them to any articles. Adoption is designed to help new users join in with the process of building Wikipedia, but I've not seen any sign that you want to do that. That's not a criticisim; if you want to use Wikipedia as a reference tool, then that's absolutely fine - it's kind of what the site's for, after all - but you don't need to go through adoption in order to do so. If, on the other hand, you want to start writing and improving articles, then yes, I'd be glad to help. Yunshui  08:15, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

@Yunshui: A friend of mine refereed me to you, I just want you to stay by my side. I also would like to improve my English speaking, reading and writing; all are very basic. -- (Russell.mo (talk) 15:16, 7 October 2014 (UTC))

I don't think you need "official" adoption, then, but you're more than welcome to drop by here any time you have questions or problems. I'll try and keep a weather eye on what you're doing as well, and give you a hand if I think you need it. By the way, you don't need to ping me on my own talkpage - any time you post to a user's own talkpage, they get a notification automatically. Yunshui  08:17, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Okay, thanks! -- (Russell.mo (talk) 15:09, 8 October 2014 (UTC))

Thank-you

Thank-you Yunshui! Scoooter3 (talk) 17:38, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

My pleasure! Er, what did I do? Yunshui  18:30, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Err He is talking about this. Don't think I'm living on your talk page, I just came here to see who has replied to Mirrorfreaks' sockpuppet incident--Chamith (talk) 18:39, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Socks

Hi Yunshui, I was looking at another post at you page and I noticed that you had reverted some vandalism done on MirrorFreak's page and received a barnstar for it. Heads up: The vandal was one of MF's own sockpuppets. He has used these, 13 of them, for things like this just to get some attention from other editors. He is now blocked for a week and you can see all about it at his talk page. Not the kind of MO you want around. Best, w.carter-Talk 17:39, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Was stalking others talk pages and came across this .I was surprised to see someone like MirrorFreak used socks,I have seen his edits and I thought he was a decent, skilled editor.I checked his talk page as well (Yes I kinda like stalking ) and saw that W.carter has been betrayed by him,I feel bad for him though. He wrote tons of "Are you guys going to answer me?" on his talk page.--Chamith (talk) 18:11, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
@ChamithN:Hello stalker, yes he has betrayed a lot of editors, but as you probably also saw I did answer him even though he has spammed me and other users and been generally disruptive just to get attention. You should read it all before jumping to conclusions. Best, w.carter-Talk 18:17, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
@W.carter: Yeah I just finished reading it ,Well said! No one can argue with that. I want to see what he has to say about your message, But sadly he can't because he has been blocked from editing his own talk page. It sucks so bad when you can't even edit your own talk page .However I think Yunshui deserves that anti-vandal badge no matter what MirrorFreak did, because Yanushi did his/her part by reverting vandalism --Chamith (talk) 18:27, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
Oddly enough, I had an e-mail chat with a checkuser (not Tiptoey) off-wiki almost as soon as I'd done the revert - I was convinced that there was something fishy going on. In the end, we decided to leave it alone; figured they were kids at the same school or something. Spotted the SPI yesterday. In future, I'll pay more attention to the paranoid voices in my head... right now they're telling me to eat a pizza...
And hey, barnstars for us admins come few and far between - gotta take the accolades where you can get 'em! Yunshui  18:28, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
LOL! Well, of course you deserve the star! It was just a heads up, Bon Appetite, w.carter-Talk 18:41, 8 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm fairly certain there are more socks of MirrorFreak still unreported.Theroadislong (talk) 18:52, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Further Reading in Martial arts

Do you have an opinion on the newly added section in the Martial arts article. I need to ask because I am feeling a bit reactionary and that is never a good thing. It was added by an IP but Bluestein has been plugging his book everywhere and this appears to be another attempt. It was followed closely by another pair of entries which are even more obscure. My gut feeling is to delete the entire section since all are either two focused (for a general article), advertisement or obscure. Tell me I am being silly and nothing more will be said.Peter Rehse (talk) 13:20, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Createspace?! Fuck no, that's ridiculous. The only one of those books that really belongs there is Draeger's, and I'm not even sure about that. No silliness on your part at all; I fully agree with you. Yunshui  13:24, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
If I remember correctly External Links was removed for much of the same reason. It was inviting the obscure.Peter Rehse (talk) 13:27, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
The problem with such sections is that every passing IP editor sees them and thinks, "Hey, my dojo should be on there!" Then they add it, which just exacerbates the problem. We should really have something at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Martial_arts#General_conventions to establish a guideline for what should and should not be included. It would still require near-constant policing, though.
Still, I've just churned out an article on Du Xinwu which might well hit DYK in the next few days, so I'm fairly happy! Yunshui  13:32, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
I saw that - nice.Peter Rehse (talk) 13:37, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. Might try and tackle Wan Laisheng tomorrow - it's amazing that we haven't got an article on him yet. Yunshui  13:39, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Doesn't look like they plan to quit - I've opened a discussion on the talkpage there. Yunshui  10:36, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Coincidentally or not Zi Ran Men has just been put up for AfD debate. That might need a tender hand.Peter Rehse (talk) 19:12, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
And there I was worrying that I'd get bored next week... I hadn't realised the current article was so awful, definitely needs a bit of kicking into shape. I'll get on it after the weekend. Appreciate the note. Yunshui  21:05, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
(By the way, guess who pops up as the third entry on a Google Books search? Now that's coincidence.) Yunshui  21:09, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) Just curious: Looked at the article+talkpage+book+author and am wondering if it really is within Wikipedia:User pages to include so much promotional material about works outside the WP on ones user page? Handy to know since I have have encountered similar things when helping newbies. Best, w.carter-Talk 12:42, 10 October 2014 (UTC)
It could arguably fall under WP:UPNOT, but then again, he does edit martial arts articles, so one could argue that it's related to his Wikipedia activities (in that the links attest to his opinions on his chosen subject area). I'm not inclined to bother myself with it, but you'd hear no argument form me if you wanted to tag it as promotional - it's laid on pretty thick. Yunshui  12:47, 10 October 2014 (UTC)

Oh my God!

Oh my God Yunshui! I never knew that it was only me...I knew and even now I know that I'm Wikiddcitedbut never knew that it was same for all. When I read this I found that most of them (yes, most of them but not all) is true. It's a big surprise for me! Boom! :D --Tamravidhir (talk) 07:44, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Yunshui I have a question, like you have that adminstats template is there a similar template for rollbackers and/or registered users? --Tamravidhir (talk) 07:59, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
Yunshui I need one more help...do you see this section...how they are place beside each other...I am using the same source here but why isn't the outcome same? Why is it one after the other and not beside each other? I have tried a lot but in vain. Could you please fix it for me? --Tamravidhir (talk) 10:15, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
I no more need help for this last one. I have fixed it myself :D! Thank you! ^_^ --Tamravidhir (talk) 13:08, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
Good stuff. As far as a template for regular users goes, there's {{Editcount}} (eg. Edit count for Tamravidhir) which will link directly to your edit analysis page - any good? I don't know of annything else that does a similar job to {{Adminstats}}. Yunshui  06:56, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
I'm afraid but I didn't understand what you mean by "good stuff". :/ --Tamravidhir (talk) 11:28, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
Well, I feel that that table is no longer needed...I already have a userbox mentioning my edits...so let it be. But thank you so much Yunshui! :D ^_^ --Tamravidhir (talk)
"Good stuff" = colloquial British English for "well done" (for solving your own formatting problem). Yunshui  12:04, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Really! Wo! I never knew that...thank you Yunshui... :D --Tamravidhir (talk) 12:12, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Congrats on your featured article

Congrats on your featured article
I can hear the Bonshō bell all the way over here. Thanks for the nice article. Pine 21:11, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Thank you - one of my prouder moments on Wikipedia! Yunshui  06:56, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Bells are ringing! When would you want it to appear, any date or a specific one? We can help with the nomination. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:29, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
I don't think these particular bells really tie in with any special date (maybe the Bon Festival, but that's pretty tenuous). Whenever it happens to hit the Main Page is fine with me. Yunshui  12:34, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
As you noticed I started to ring the bell for peace, good any day, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:39, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Mentorship

Hello, Yunshui, As you know I am Wikipedia User Noormohammed Satya since few years editing and expanding articles on Indian Television, Indian soap opera and Indian Television & Bollywood Actors and Film & Television production companies of India and their related pages.

The purpose of me to edit these pages is to expand the information on pages in Wikipedia, to create accurate and correct information about the articles with accurate sources and expanding information about these articles for the users & readers of Wikipedia.

I was blocked and later unblocked on one of the condition being me having a mentor for certain period. As you currently adopting the adoptee and also you having certain knowledge about me, I find you suitable to be my mentor. I hope you would undertake me as your adoptee and be my mentor for the time as mentioned by the user for unblocking me. I hope for the positive reply.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noormohammed satya (talkcontribs)

Let me think about it for a bit. The requirement that I double check your every edit for six months is an incredibly onerous burden, and would pretty much prevent me from doing a lot of other work on Wikipedia. I'm not sure that I'm willing to commit to spending my next half-year doing little other than running every change you make through a copyvio detector. I'll give it some thought and get back to you later today. Yunshui  11:25, 13 October 2014 (UTC)
Ultimately, whilst it might seem a rather arrogant supposition, I think Wikipedia is better served by me doing my usual editing and admin work rather than monitoring your edits. Sorry, but I'm afraid I'm not willing to mentor you at this time. Yunshui  14:43, 13 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Yunshui, Its been a while being back in wiki agian, I have re-worked the article on Sri Aurobindo has it had failed GA 3 times now it would be my fourth nomination can you have a look and let me know if this is GA ready ? and congrats on your first FA Shrikanthv (talk) 11:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Nice to see you again! I've only had a fairly cursory skim through the article, but aside from the need to fix a couple of your refs (check the reflist for red error messages) it looks okay to me. Certainly I wouldn't have any qualms about offering it for GA review; it might need some tweaks based on the review (the image File:ஸ்ரீஅரவிந்தரின் சிலையுரு.JPG is almost certainly wrongly licenced, for example) but it wouldn't quickfail and I think it would need very little work to pass. Good job! Yunshui  11:32, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
