Proposed amendment to Ireland article names case[edit]

Hello, Waggers. For your information, an amendment has been proposed to the Ireland article names arbitration case. As you were a named party in that dispute, you may wish to voice your opinions on this request at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Amendment#Request to amend prior case: Ireland article names. If you have any questions, please contact myself, another clerk, or an arbitrator. Thank you. For the Committee, Hersfold (t/a/c) 14:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Poll on Ireland (xxx)[edit]

A poll is up at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Ireland_Collaboration/Poll on Ireland (xxx). This is a vote on what option or options could be added in the poll regarding the naming of the Ireland and Republic of Ireland and possibly the Ireland (disambiguation) pages. The order that the choices appear in the list has been generated randomly. Sanctions for canvassing, forum shopping, ballot stuffing, sock puppetry, meat puppetry will consist of a one-month ban, which will preclude the sanctioned from participating in the main poll which will take place after this one. Voting will end at 21:00 (UTC) of the evening of 1 July 2009 (that is 22:00 IST and BST). -- Evertype· 18:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jeremy Vine[edit]

Hello. I didn't appreciate your message telling me that I'd left insulting remarks on jeremy vine's page - I don't even know who he is. Only I use my computer, which is new, and in my life I've only edited two wiki pages - once to add the word AMBLE on a page about Northumberland, plus once today adding a line about the jet stream. So please restrain yourself in future and check your facts before sending users petty remarks that are hurtful. Thank you. I am a mature responsible person and would never dream of writing anything untrue, harmful, or nasty about anyone online, let alone on wiki. Good day to you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.64.205.115 (talk) 12:02, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Christianity WikiProject Newsletter
Issue X - July 2009
Project news
  • The Christianity project and its related projects currently have 76 FAs, 8 FLs, and 148 GAs. We gained new recognized content in each field, with 4 FAs promoted, 2 FLs, and 3 GAs. Congratulations and a big thank you to all those who worked on these articles!
Member news
Other news
  • I am still working on the categorization matter. With any luck, we should have some results by the end of the month. There are also some discussions regarding project related activities at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity/General Forum. One issue in particular that might be addressed is possible elections of new coordinators. Anyone interested in serving in such a capacity is more than welcome to indicate as much.
Related projects news
Member contest of the month
  • The previous contests are still ongoing, because of the extreme amount of time the categorization is taking me. Anyone who can bring any of the few Stub class articles among the project's 1000 most often accessed articles by the end of July will get an award. Please see the details Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Christianity#Project challenge of the month.
Christianity related news
From the Members

Welcome to the Tenth issue of the WikiProject Christianity newsletter! Use this newsletter as a mechanism to inform yourselves about progress at the project and please be inspired to take more active roles in what we do.

It has been a long time since the last coordinators election. There is a lot for people to do, and I certainly would welcome seeing any individuals with an interest in such a position put themselves forward as candidates. I in particular would very much like to see some degree of "specialization" in the coordinators, so that, for instance, we might have someone knowledgable about some of the specific Christian faith traditions or other main subjects, like Orthodoxy, Lutheranism, Mormonism, the Jehovah's Witnesses, art, theology, and so on. If any parties who have experience with some of our faith- or- subject-based content would be interested in being candidates, I would love to see them do so. Please feel free to take part in the discussion regading what the minimum number of category items is, and how to deal with the non-qualifying categories, on the General Forum page.

There are WikiProjects for Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Warwickshire; but I can't find one for Oxfordshire. If you examine Talk:Oxford railway station, and then compare Talk:Reading railway station or Talk:Buckingham railway station, you'll see what I'm after. Sure - it's mainly that it's not until you get to the "See also" section that you find out the article is about Brazil - until then the country is not mentioned and the reader doesn't know what the context of the article is. waggers (talk) 14:52, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Article deletion contest[edit]

Hi,

I just placed an article titled Danger Angel and I think that it is set for deletion. I just wanted to verify the article and explain the reason why I placed it.

Danger Angel is one of the most important new Greek rock bands and their CD is released worldwide on January, through a credited label (Perris Records). It also includes the contribution of singer Jeff Scott Soto, who already has an article on Wikipedia.

The release of this CD has been covered by several credited magazines and web pages around the world. To name a few:

Rock Hard magazine, blubbermouth web zine, bravewords web zine, sleazeroxx webzine among hundreds of others.

It is also announced on the official page of Perris Records (www.perrisrecords.com) and is already on pre-sale.

Also, if possible and if the article is not deleted after all, I would appreciate some help in designing the page as it should.

Alexpts (talk) 13:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the band is important, that needs to be established in the article itself, along with links or references to the reviews and other media coverage that you mention. Please see WP:MUSIC for the relevant notability criteria and WP:MUSICIAN for assistance in writing articles on this subject. Thanks, waggers (talk) 13:29, 23 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs[edit]

Hello Waggers! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Ah, I see. Never mind. :-) --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 15:39, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Because, having read the complaint and reviewed the history of the articles in question, I took the requested action and thus (hopefully) resolved the issue. ANI is for reports that require quick or immediate action, not lengthy discussion, so there's no need to comment and opine on every section of it. waggers (talk) 15:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jeff Allen[edit]

I noticed you deleted a biography article for 'Jeff Allen' on 5 June 2007 (CSD A7 (Bio)). I do not know if it was for the same English rock drummer (Hello, East of Eden, Babe Ruth, Snowy White, Bonnie Tyler et al) that I intended to create a new article for, or not. Am I safe to proceed ? Alternatively, am I ever safe to proceed ?!? Thanks,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:53, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There have been three deleted Jeff Allen articles: one in 2005 about an upcoming fighter, the one I deleted in 2007 about an american radio personality and one last year about a college basketball player. Since none of those Jeff Allens are the one you're considering I reckon you're safe to proceed - provided of coruse you comply with the usual policies (WP:BLP, WP:N, etc) waggers (talk) 10:04, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Misuse of ROLLBACK tool at article page Outrage (2009 film)[edit]

This was misuse of the WP:ROLLBACK tool, which is only supposed to be used to revert obvious vandalism or edits so disruptive in nature to Wikipedia that they do not need any edit summary at all when being reverted. Please, do not do this again. Thanks, -- Cirt (talk) 14:21, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, looked like vandalism at first glance. waggers (talk) 15:30, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. Thanks for the prompt response. ;) Please be more careful in the future. Cheers, -- Cirt (talk) 15:34, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I don't know if you're the right person to ask, but can you take a look at this category. I am at a loss to see why most of the aricles are sorted under "D" and are in no obvious order. It seems to be something to do with the Template:Districts of Southampton but I can't fix it. Any clues? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:34, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On second thoughts, the order within the category appears to be the date of creation of each article, rather like you get when clicking on "What links here" in the toolbox. Very strange! -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:37, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That is odd. I think you were right first time, it's probably something to do with the template. I've made a minor change to the template which hopefully should fix it, but these changes take a while to filter through because of technical reasons around the way categories work across Wikipedias various servers - but I'll keep an eye on it and try to find a resolution. waggers (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. That seems to have fixed it. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 23:09, 24 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Added template for SuggestBot[edit]

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 22:24, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bayku[edit]

Hey there. I just wanted to inform you that Bayku did write stop and go. If you ask names like Polow Da Don, Willy Will, T.I., Andree 3000, Big Boy, Teyana Taylor, UGK!!!....etc. they will all tell you of his credibility. He has another song out on the radios in the UK with Roll Deep, and is currently in back in Ghana working with other artists out there. I along with many others even in Ghana, would just like to be able to see and follow up on things going on with Bayku on wikipedia and would greatly appreciate it if you would help bring his page back. Thank you —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.92.83.124 (talk) 08:09, 25 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Poll on ArbCom resolution - Ireland article names[edit]

There is a poll taking place here on whether or not to extend the ArbCombinding resolution, which says there may be no page move discussions for Ireland, Republic of Ireland or Ireland (disambiguation), for a further two years. Fmph (talk) 20:23, 18 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The English Heritage and Southampton City Council websites refer to both churches by the names I used when creating the template. See St Andrew's United Reformed Church, Southampton and Swaythling Methodist Church. The template is about the buildings themselves, rather than the organisation that occupies them. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 12:55, 6 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited London Buses route 29, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Southgate (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi again - I am currently working on a list of Listed buildings in Southampton - the current version is in my sandbox. Over the next few days, I should complete the table for the Grade II* buildings. My problem is with the Grade II buildings, of which there are over 290. If I include them all, the list will be very unwieldy, not to mention the time it would take to create it. I have included a few and I was planning to include those with articles of their own (as listed on the template and at the top of the draft article). How far should I go, and how to decide what to include and what to exclude? The list includes several churches (24 if I've counted correctly) - if I include one, then I should include them all. There are several other interesting (to me) buildings such as God's House Tower, but I don't really want to list every drinking fountain (7) or piece of wall etc, etc. Any thoughts? -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 13:23, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To quote Ashleigh Brilliant (apparently), "I don't have a solution but I certainly admire the problem". Things we'll want to achieve are:
On that basis I find it hard to justify excluding anything that's listed. A water fountain might not capture our interest but it's evidently sufficiently notable, interesting and worth preserving to be grade II* listed, so someone will want to know about it. So my view is that, ideally, the list should be comprehensive.
The saving grace is this: this is a wiki, a permanent work in progress, and we have templates like {{Expand list}} precisely for that purpose. You don't have to do all the work before putting it into the main space; in fact my view is that to do so goes against the fundamental idea of Wikipedia as it prevents (or at least discourages) other users from taking part in the development of the article.
Now, having written all that, I've finally clicked on the links in your message and seen that you've already gone ahead and done more or less just that! There is another distinction to make of course, the difference between a building and a structure. The churches are all buildings, so I'd argue they should all be on there, but a drinking fountain or a section of wall isn't human-occupy-able so can be safely excluded. In any case it's a good piece of work, well done.
Slightly annoying that II* comes before II in the sort algorithm though, it would be good to see if we can fix that at some point. waggers (talk) 13:03, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback - as I've been developing the article, like you I have come to the conclusion that the list should end up with every listed building (in fact, every listed structure) in the city. Cheers.. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 14:15, 10 February 2012 (UTC) p.s The sorting works fine for me.[reply]

MSU Interview[edit]

Dear Waggers,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 22:05, 15 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
