thanks for getting back to me

I appreciate your explaining the practice of editing/commenting/discussion to me re: the Nadhmi Auchi page. Sorry if I was unjustifiably angry; I felt as though the deleted information was not per se defamatory toward Mr. Auchi, and shed considerable light on a current discussion here in the United States relating to the upcoming Presidential election.

Since you're from France, I appreciate your patience with our occasionally ridiculous internal political discourse. Please allow me as well to apologize for the loutishness of some of my fellow Americans in how they speak about your country and people. I myself am partly of French ancestry on both my mother's and father's sides, and am proud of that fact. Certainly, there is nothing great about being an Anglo-Saxon which allows people of that descent to look down on others unduly.

Again, thanks for your time and effort spent explaining the procedures here to me. Bon jour, Vance --vfrickey (talk) 15:15, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

re: Sarah Palin edits by Young Trigg

There are several different issues here. Young Trigg admits to being a part of the McCain campaign. He set up an account specifically for the purpose of editing the Sarah Palin page then resigned as an editor apparently hoping to act in the interests of the McCain campaign in scrubbing the palin page the day befor she was selected to run as his VP and then dissapear into anonymity. NPR, the Daily KOS and other media have already picked this up.

The problem now is that its very difficult to let this go without involving Wikipedia in the scandal.

Sarah Palin has links to the American Independence Party

Recapping Palin's Secession Scandal

by georgia10 Tue Sep 02, 2008 at 06:54:06 AM PDT If you spent yesterday at a Labor Day picnic rather than at the computer, you missed the story that broke here regarding Sarah Palin's 1990s membership in the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP).

Note I said Independence not Independent. It's not just an "independent" party--it is a party whose explicit goal is to have a vote on Alaskan independence.

So, without further ado, what we know so far (all the information, and much, much more can be found here, here, here, and here):

As user Liz Arnett first informed us yesterday morning, the AIP is a political party in Alaska whose motto is "Alaska First." It's goal is to have a vote on Alaska's state status so that Alaskans may decide whether the state should secede, become a territory, become a commonwealth, or remain a state. The AIP has what most Americans would qualify as radical views on the relationship between the federal government and Alaska, including a belief that the federal government should be dissolved if gun rights are ever abolished or curtailed, a belief that the federal government is in breach of the Constitution, and complete opposition to environmental regulations and public ownership of Alaskan land. Yesterday night, it was is confirmed that Sarah Palin and her husband were members of the AIP at least in 1994. Indeed, Palin reportedly attended the AIP convention. In 2007, the Vice Chairman of the AIP, Dexter Clark, not only referenced Palin's membership, but also said that since she joined the GOP, "she is pretty well sympathetic to her former membership." Clark also goes on to discuss the need to "infiltrate" the major parties. In 2008, Palin recorded a message for the AIP's annual convention, stating that Alaska has "a great promise to be a self-sufficient state" and encouraging them to "keep up the good work." Still no statement from the McCain/Palin camp on these developments. We'll be posting more on this story throughout the day.

The scandal is that Sarah Palin was not properly vetted by John McCain and editing Wikipedia articles to make her sound anything this side of the lunatic fringe isn't going to be enough to save her. If Young Trigg turns out to be more involved with the campaign than he presently admits to the scandal deepens. Who Young Trigg is exactly will eventually come out so refusing to identfy him works against Wikipedias interests. Rktect (talk) 19:23, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks on 218.186.12.8

Thanks for the quick follow up on the block on 218.186.12.8. Sorry for the duplicate block request (looks like a bot caught and cleaned it.) Checked IP's last hundred edits. Think I got all the bad ones. Have a great night! Gnowor (talk) 07:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Taj Mahal

Thank you for rv of Taj Mahal vandalism. Up until a day or 2 ago, the article was semi-protected. It is a target for lots of vandalism and tests, and semiprotection was a good idea. Would you restore semi-protection, please? --nemonoman (talk) 11:13, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Done I see no useful contribution from IPs since it was unprotected last week, I guess this is one of those pages... -- lucasbfr talk 12:22, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks from myself, and I don't doubt thanks from many other editors. --nemonoman (talk) 12:46, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm certainly one - I asked for protection from ANI recently and was declined because there wasn't sufficient evidence after 2 days of unprotection - fair enough - but they clearly haven't had the page on their watchlists for two years. Good call, many thanks. --Joopercoopers (talk) 21:00, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: This discussion here

Hi Lucas, basically, that IP is a part of the infamous genre troll IP ring (Basically, an IP ring makes mass and rapid genre changes to fit their POV) so I think Wiki libs had a good call there. I can find some evidence for it if you wish. Just thought I'd tell you. Cheers friend. Utan Vax (talk) 21:49, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Geek Show Podcast

I wish to protest this page's deletion. It meets notability requirements both in terms of number of downloads per week, mention on other media, and as a side project of a top-rated morning show, recently the nominee of a national R&R award. Please revert and open for discussion as to whether this qualifies for deletion, merging, etc. I was working on several citations for the edits i had made yesterday, went to put them in and the page had been deleted. There are improvements to be made which cannot happen in an online, collaborative fashion if admins will not allow the page to stay up for more than 24 hours. thank you. If you can restore it to my userpage that will be fine. When page was deleted it may have not met notability requirements but now I believe it does due to mentions in other media and increase in listenership. Will rework and appeal. ThanksWhillice (talk) 17:20, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

User:Cool 97 is doing it again

Umm I hate to bother you, but User:Cool 97 is at it again, rampantly uploading images with patent false licensing information (claiming a copyright image is released as gfdl or pd-self, for example) and has been blocked once before due to this. I think this type of flagrant abuse of copyright is worse than vandalism, but that's just me. Thought I'd drop you a note since you've dealt with this individual in the past. Stale report

Sorry for the bad/stale report on 59.90.16.191. I think I reverted one of their edits and when I went to warn them, Huggle automatically reported because they had a final warning at some point. Either way, sorry! Pinkadelica (talk) 07:26, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

re:Nyannrunning checkuser

Thank you for paying attention to what I was trying to get across on this issue. I'm sure you've heard it before, but I was feeling less than appreciated and devalued after I'd knocked on doors for weeks now to get something done about the violation of my privacy. I did appreciate that the personal information was removed, but that was where it stopped. I followed the advice from a bureaucrat, to assemble data and pass it on to specific adminstrators, but no one would even respond. It's a relief to know someone heard anything. Thanks again. Richard Wright dab

Howdy. The Richard Wright redirect to Richard Wright (disambiguation) has been noted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/Malplaced disambiguation pages. I see that you've protected it, likely at the news of the musician's death. Any problem with me moving the dab to the base name and (re)protecting it? -- JHunterJ (talk) 12:32, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Done (I broke it, I fix it! :p), you are indeed correct. An old friend was playing on the musician page and I preferred to err on the side of caution by protecting the redirect. Thanks for reminding me the DAB rule though! -- lucasbfr talk 12:39, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Reporting Vandalism

Hello,

I rarely report vandals, preferring instead to send them a polite note and leave them be. In this instance though this is an IP[[2]] (or two? [[3]]) that has a history of unconstructive edits, and recently making more. You had previously blocked the user, so I thought it appropriate to bring it to your attention. Cheers Halogenated (talk) 03:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi there - I have not heard back from you yet on this matter, are you able to assist me with protecting this article from persistent vandalism? This same vandal has been also at work elsewhere (e.g. 1, 2, 3). They are consistently reasserting their poorly written and factually incorrect edits for [biodegradable plastic]] and it's becoming very tedious. Belinda Gavin article deletion

I'd like to discuss the deletion of the Belinda Gavin article. While I completely understand the question of whether or not she was notable, I think the notability came from the decision of "American Gladiators" to put her on as a contestant. Perhaps this would be better put as a side item on the American Gladiators article, but as they were (understandably) aggressive about purging this interesting piece of information from their own forums and chat sites, I imagine they would also work to have it excluded from the main article.

I'm clearly an inexperienced poster, apologies if this is not the correct forum for this discussion. As the page had already been deleted (hopefully by you, otherwise you have no idea what I'm talking about), it seemed as though the talk page for that article would be a dry hole.
