José Fonte (and tons of others)

Hi there again,

whatever, and then when the player(s) make(s) the final squad we'll add another source, too much clutter methinks. Plus, this user has the custom of adding refs for finals in players with dozens of finals under their belt. In this case, he added a ref for a win where the player DID NOT APPEAR (!) in the final and, when confronted with that needless edit, did the following (please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Jaellee&diff=841245130&oldid=841244065).

Believe me, i will clean up Fonte and all the others when the definitive squads are announced. Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 20:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: No probs, it was just the lack of reason that I had an issue with. I don't personally see a problem with including this, although I wouldn't think mentioning it and inclusion (or omission) in the final squad would be needed, so could be replaced at that point. Other issues noted.. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 20:55, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
@Quite A Character: As if by magic Nzd (talk) 21:00, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Wait, he added TWO sources for the SAME piece of news? And this (please check it out here https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Guillermo_Fern%C3%A1ndez_Hierro&diff=831323870&oldid=819724967)?! Every other article on a top-flight footballer would have 2,000 refs, with the crap newspapers put out everyday :) --Quite A Character (talk) 21:04, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: Yep, that one's certainly easy to justify! Nzd (talk) 21:25, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Look at what he did in Rolando (footballer)? Do you want to have a word with them? I'm not very adept at these things... --Quite A Character (talk) 21:45, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: To be honest, I'm still not sure whether that's useful or not. Is it relevant enough to say he only made the provisional squad? If so, I would definitely prefer the new ref to actually mention the player, saying that he was in the initial squad but didn't make the final one. Might be a question for WT:FOOTY. Nzd (talk) 22:25, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

If a player only makes the provisional squad, i'd say keeping both is not all that bad, but if a player makes the final 23, why have TWO references? And the amount of cleanup you have to do after this guy is beyond insane! Of course, no one forces me to edit... --Quite A Character (talk) 23:54, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: Can't disagree with any of that. I've dropped the user a note. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 00:42, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

ANOTHER (adds, in the same "exquisite" display, a 100% unreliable source just to say a player with tons of titles and finals under his belt played another decisive match https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Danny_(footballer)&diff=841822773&oldid=840500237)!! Wish I had your cool demeanour (just an example of an editor, there are others fortunately) regarding these situations, I saw (and approved) your message to this user, let's hope improvements will occur...

P.S. I added a proper ref to Danny's article, in honours, instead of a botched and/or cluttered storyline. --Quite A Character (talk) 09:10, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: I see you reverted that one stating that footballdatabase.eu isn't a reliable source. I've had a look on WT:FOOTY and RS/N and couldn't find anything about this. Is there a previous discussion somewhere? I ask as I'm pretty sure I've used it before and they have a client list which suggests it should be OK (although I would admit it's cleary lacking in some areas). Thanks, Nzd (talk) 11:45, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

One user told me that last year or so, I think it was User:MYS77, claiming it was somewhat useful for French footballers but not much elsewhere (site is French). Be it as it may, I removed a mere match sheet (and only noticed it now, LOL! User "sourced" the cup final with the LEAGUE clash between the same sides http://www.footballdatabase.eu/football.match.jablonec.slavia-prague.1242394.en.html!!) and replaced it with a match report from a reliable third-party source (but you got to "admire" the bias of the newspapers when they talk about their own, "Danny HELPS Slavia win the cup", writes the Portuguese journalist without cracking up). Improvement, no? --Quite A Character (talk) 13:00, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: Yes, it's always better to go with a report rather than something like that, and I certainly wasn't criticising your actions. It was just that I seem to recall a couple of times where a footballdatabase.eu profile has had data I've not found elsewhere.
Hopefully, your improvements will help guide a new user. That's how we all learned Nzd (talk) 13:57, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Yes, me too, i should not be so hard on newbies (assuming said user is)... --Quite A Character (talk) 15:04, 18 May 2018 (UTC)

Peach Pit is one of the artists signed to Columbia Records

This is to NZD, the editor who removed my edit. I will get the contract signed between Peach Pit and Columbia, show you it, and that is adequate proof the band is.

The article is about bands artists signed with Columbia. Notability doesn’t matter, the fact is the band is in the Columbia stable.

The band did have its own Wikipedia page, with verifiable sources, but some editor took it down.

RVanderkooy (talk) 07:35, 25 May 2018 (UTC) RVanderkooy (talk) 07:35, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

@RVanderkooy: As with most lists on Wikipedia, only entries with their own articles should be included (or that it would be "reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming in the future"). The article for the band was deleted via AfD last month, so this was removed as a result of community consensus rather than "some editor". If, at some point, the band can verifiably satisfy the notability guidelines, you are welcome to recreate the article and re-add the list entry. As you seem to be associated with the band, please also read the policies on conflict of interest and promotion. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 09:17, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Santi Cazorla

I've protected the page for a month. GiantSnowman 13:02, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

I've just added a very quick ref confirming he is training with them, per Evening Standard... GiantSnowman 13:10, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Sorry for the (possible) incovenience in this article created by my adjustments. It's just i am 100% against writing the same word (in this case "score" or any other tense with same verb) in storyline, unless strictly necessary. I often see paragraphs where name of club/player is written five/six times, and it makes my eyes bleed...

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 19:09, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: No probs. I have no issue with others editing anything I put out there. That is, after all, what Wikipedia is all about. It would be nice if you could tone down your edit summaries a bit though Nzd (talk) 12:26, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

I try every time (regarding summaries), and I fail miserably the same amount... Not excusing myself, far from it! --Quite A Character (talk) 13:14, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Tractor Sazi

Hi! I am from East Azarbaijan Province. Tractor Sazi F.C. is our football club and our love too. We have problems with the Persians over the name of the Iranian Premier League. The Iranian Premier League is officially named Iran Pro League. You should not interfere in our work. Thanks. Riza tbzli (talk) 23:57, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

@Riza tbzli: That's not what the article or any of the sourcing states, but I have suggested the avenues available to you if you think that warrants a discussion. I would also recommend you avoid saying things like "You should not interfere in our work" and read WP:Consensus and WP:Ownership. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 10:10, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

Matias Almeyda

OK, but how about just "...and is a manager."? Does that sound less awkward? Cheers --Quite A Character (talk) 11:00, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

I see, but if (99,99999999999% sure it will be "when") if finds a new job the intro will read "...is an Argentine football manager and a former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He is the (current) manager of X"? That's as awkward as can be, but that's just my two cents". --Quite A Character (talk) 11:46, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

  • I am performing a major cleanup in this article (also, let me see if you agree with my new intro approach). As for all things Leeds (past, present or hypothetical), this user adds tons and tons of info that belong in a club's article not a manager or a player.

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 19:09, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

M. of the Shore ("M. da Costa" in English, LOL!) - Reply

@YW0K5o: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia I have striken the warning from your talk page. On second look, I probably would have reverted it as unencyclopedic, but I see now that it wasn't spam, so I apologise for that.
You appear to have added the talk comment to User talk:66.133.201.94, rather than the article talk page. You might want to copy that over. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 01:28, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

Griezmann picture

Dear Nzd, You reverted a change I made regarding Griezmann's dive in the world cup final. I disagree with your interpretation that I am not neutral. If it makes you happier, you can change the caption to 'controversial situation that led to the first goal' or something like that. However replacing the picture with a meaningless picture of a football player on a pitch is hardly neutral. The situation is already mentioned in the text so it is meaningful to add a picture so that readers can make up their minds for themselves. If I read a text, I can hardly tell what happened, if I see a picture, I have a much better idea. By the way when France plays Croatia I am not supporting either team in particular. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Derfugu (talkcontribs) 10:23, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

@Derfugu: I'm pretty sure you can't use screenshots like that, especially on Commons. I've raised this at Commons:Village pump/Copyright for clarification. Discussion about article content, especially something controversial like that, should take place on the article talk page so other editors can take part. I suspect the image will be deleted though. Hey! I'm pretty sure that Santi Cazorla has officially signed with Villarreal for pre-season.

Anyway, for the other updates, I was corrected grammar and spelling mistakes. HiZo123 (talk) 19:26, 25 July 2018 (UTC) 25.7.18

@HiZo123: The sources say otherwise. Also, your "corrections" were to refactor the title of a reference and break the formatting of the infobox. Nzd (talk) 19:30, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
@Nzd: Okay. Sorry for disturbing you. HiZo123 (talk) 19:33, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

Quick question

When it comes to appearances on a footballer's wiki, does pre-season matches count? (speaking about Matteo Guendowzi and his first app; not official) HiZo123 (talk) 19:39, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

@HiZo123: No, infobox stats are for the domestic league only (so Premier League, La Liga, etc.). Some articles will have a more detailed career statistics table at the bottom, which would include competitive cup competitions.
Generally, pre-season friendlies would not be considered notable enough for inclusion at all, but given Cazorla's well-documented troubles, this is mentioned in the prose of that article. Nzd (talk) 19:47, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
@Nzd: Thanks! Anyway, I was talking about Mattéo Guendowzi. HiZo123 (talk) 19:55, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

West Ham squad numbers

My source for the squad numbers that I added was the pre-season matches played in the past couple of weeks, where the players wore the numbers as described. The most recent match was vs Ipswich, earlier today. Dalek194 (talk) 16:31, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

@Dalek194: None of those numbers are official though, which is why the squad list on the OS doesn't have them (yet). Of the new signings, only Wilshere's number has been announced so far. Nzd (talk) 17:11, 28 July 2018 (UTC)

As well as this vikash dhorasoo does not count as a french Indian as his last actual Indian direct forefather would have been around over 150 years ago. Brazilian player listings - Reply

Hello there,

well, the only thing i know of is WWW.SAMBAFOOT.COM (here http://www.sambafoot.com/en/), more or less decent but: 1 - i do not know if it contains any stats; 2 - it seems to contain the odd error even for Brazilian chaps.

I'll ask veteran Brazilian user MYS77 to weigh in, most likely he'll fare better than I (P.S. for your info, i don't think you will be able to use OGOL.COM as more than an (harmless) external link, it's the Brazilian version of WWW.ZEROZERO.PT, user-generated website)!

Cheers, hopefully i was of help (and certainly MYS will be) --Quite A Character (talk) 19:06, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character:, @Nzd:, to be very honest, none of those websites (Sambafoot and Ogol) are very reliable... although the last one seems to be correct more often than the first one. I added some content to the page, I'm still trying to find some more information regarding his spell from 1993 to 1997... I will fix those terrible refs later, right now I'm busy work-wise. Your help

Thank you very much. I didn't have it right, because I had only 'edit source' and not 'edit'. So I didn't find the box labelled 'Summary'. Trying it, I made a correction in the entry 'Diemerci Mbokani' without this summary. Then, looking further, and adjusting my preferences so 'edit' appears alongside 'edit source', I hope I got it right this time with two corrections in the entry 'Arjen Robben'. I hope that I understood your directions well, and I thank you for your kind help! Stefan Verdorie (talk) 16:27, 26 August 2018 (UTC)

The Exchange 106

I have updated the sources for your article, The Exchange 106, with references from both local and foreign newspaper as well as business magazines. The building will stand at 492m both architecturally and height to the tip and not 446m as stated CTBUH as the information is incorrect. At 446m, The Exchange 106 will only be the 2nd tallest building in Malaysia as the current tallest buildings, The Petronas Twin Towers, stands at 451.9m. I can assure you that The Exchange 106 will stand at 492m in height as I am a Malaysian citizen and we all are excited about this new building. About reverting my edit on Petr Ćech's page

Not much my friend. Don't take it as an offensive message . But i really can't understand why you reverted it . And even someone(maybe you) sent me a message that i didn't cite a reliable source for my added content . Well, i cited Wikipedia itself. So it was really nice to know that Wikipedia isn't a reliable source according to wikipedians these days. Thanks though and have a nice day! Yours friend Chandra Shekher Mishra Chandra Shekher Mishra (talk) 18:14, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

@Chandra Shekher Mishra: It wasn't me that left the message on your talk page, but I reverted for the same reason. You cannot use Wikipedia itself as a source. Because Wikipedia is user-generated, it is not considered a reliable source for citation purposes. Instead, you should check the Wikipedia article that contains the material and reuse those citations that support the statements you need to reference.
For example, if I wanted to reference the statement that Wayne Rooney joined D.C. United in June 2018, I couldn't simply reference Rooney's Wikipedia article, but I could go to that article, verify that the statement is indeed referenced, and reuse the citation used by that article.
I hope that makes sense. Feel free to come back to me if it doesn't! Nzd (talk) 19:11, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

About reverting my edit in 'Style of play' section in Petr Cech's page

I can't understand why you are saying this brother. The article contains Mr.Arsene Wenger's comment on petr cech, which itself says that cech is one of the greatest of all time. What else is needed when a Legendary person like him claimed the fact. I even have lehmann's same comment. Man, i think i was just too polite with you . But when i found out that u reverted my edit from above too. Im hell out of my mind. Why the hell did you erase that. Do u even have any idea of what petr is. Im redoing my edit above and i know it particularly well that it isnt vandalism. The mentioned fact is purely correct and erasing that will lead me to taking hard actions. So this is a warning not a request. One more thing, u removed pre-existing stuff from the page. So you are vandalising things now. That stuff was there from way long than you were born. How dare you? So u better watch out. And i found this thing happen again and reverting my edit than its sure that i would take rough actions against it . And u would be banned from editing wikipedia.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandra Shekher Mishra (talkcontribs) 14:00, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Please read the message on the article talk page, which sets out the reasons for the reversion/removal. I'm certainly not against including some kind of statement about his standing in the game, but it must be sourced appropriately, and those opinions must come from independent sources (i.e. not his own manager). Please engage in that discussion before readding content, per WP:BRD. Please remember to sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thanks, Nzd (talk) 14:09, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

Need Help to Learn Regarding Interests

Hi, I am a new user on Wikipedia and I am a student by profession. I like writing blogs and articles. My area of interest is how the world is being changed by the upcoming new companies. For example - earlier there was only public transport available and now there is Uber, Ola, etc. There was only buying items we need, now we can rent it and even perform barter system in some cases, because of the facilities provided by some companies. Similarly there are several companies that change the face of the world. I want to write about it. As per the knowledge that I received from my friends, quora, and other internet platforms, I heard Wikipedia is very strict. Can you please guide me as to how do I create the article without violating any of the laws of Wikipedia?

Thanks in advance!! --Newworldorder2018 (talk) 04:47, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

I thought Wikipedia should be helpful, informative and written for the people. Seems I have come to the wrong place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrsingh18 (talkcontribs) 17:09, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

@Mrsingh18: Please read WP:NOTLINKFARM, WP:LINKSPAM and WP:ELNO. You have now been reverted by two editors so please don't add this again. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 17:36, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Roy Carroll

Do you not think it noteworthy that he didn't shake hands with the entire team? How many links do you want me to add to show there was a media reaction? It's not "recentism" it's as much a valid contribution as a lot of stuff on his page, just happens to show he's a bigot - is that why you want it censored?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.233.43.104 (talk) 14:09, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

I have no opinion on the matter, and neither should you, as a Wikipedia editor. If there are reliable sources that actually show a controversy/media reaction, then you are, of course, free to add them. The source you added before didn't do that. Nzd (talk) 16:33, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Carl Haworth

Hi NZD,

I made a change to Carl Haworth's page, specifically, I changed his position from "Forward" to "Attacking midfielder, forward", which is far more accurate. You reverted the article to its original state because I failed to provide a reliable source. However, and in fairness I am a novice Wikipedia page editor, the specific part of the article was never sourced in the first place. It simply just read, "Forward", with no citation.

His profile on Transfermarkt.com lists him as a right winger (https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/carl-haworth/profil/spieler/221044) and he's even been playing right back as of late (https://twitter.com/OttawaFuryFC/status/1039566787036233729).

I think it would probably make more sense to switch his position to "Right winger, right back".I do not know how to provide a hyperlink to those positions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.252.253.66 (talk) 17:50, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi, the infobox and lead should only include a player's normal positions. That doesn't appear to include right-back, as the sources indicate this is an unusual position for him, so I've removed it. I've had a go at adding this into the prose though, with sources (under a 'Style of play' section). If you are changing content, please remember to source them appropriately (see WP:REFBEG for info). Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source as it's content is derived from user-generated content. If you have a look at my changes, you can see how the different positions can be linked. I've left a welcome message on your talk page with some more info about contributing to Wikipedia. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 20:25, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Ndz just seems content with deleting other people's constructions for the most trivial of reasons instead of contributing himself. Sad. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.233.41.54 (talk) 18:00, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

It's not clear what this relates to as there is no contribution history for this IP address (although given the similarity of IPs, I'm assuming the Roy Carroll section above?) If you want to follow up on something specific, I'd be happy to address it. Nzd (talk) 20:25, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi NZD why do you keep complaining about my updates to pages? BrandonFootyGuy (talk) 16:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

@BrandonFootyGuy: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia As I noted on your talk page, I see that you have made useful contributions but others were either unsourced or didn't conform to Wikipedia's policies around neutral point of view and/or original research. You also removed some content without explaining why. With some of your edits, I was able to verify the content you added and add the references myself. Others just needed a bit of a cleanup to conform to the manual of style (e.g. date formats). I'd suggest reading through the links in this message, as well as WP:5P and WP:REFBEG. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 19:41, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello there,

i NEVER write the last club in the intro, what's the point? All one has to do is have a look at the infobox (or storyline; regarding that bit, i have added the news of him being released, hopefully you will allow that) to see he does not play for (in this case) Mumbai.

Another question: when will i be allowed to remove the "He last played for Mumbai City" bit? When Mr. Emana finds a new club? When he retires? Never (or perhaps now, as i have added the bit in storyline, and also re-wrote the word "season" INSIDE the link, it does not belong OUTSIDE? Also regarding that, can i write "upcoming" or "next" instead of the years? It's already somewhat implied with the date of his signing)? Awaiting reply.

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 22:20, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: Neither of us owns the article so nobody is allowing or disallowing anything here. You made an edit that I disagreed with so I reverted it with an explanation.
Per WP:EASTEREGG, you should "keep piped links as transparent as possible", which means that a link title with the actual season in it is preferable to "one season" or some such, in my view. Whether "season" goes inside the title appears to be a personal preference, both ways seem quite common, and I'm not really fussed either way.
WRT the lead, ideally there should be at least a brief mention of all of the (notable) clubs the subject has played for. It's supposed to be a summary of the main article prose. I would say where they were most recently would usually be pertinant, in the absence of a more fleshed out lead.
See here for contract end date. There is also this but I'm not sure it's a reliable source. He no longer appears on the squad list. As I understand it, the ISL clubs generally only sign players for the season. Nzd (talk) 23:40, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

It's alright, no worries. I now added another ref in his personal life section, what's important is that we keep improving the article. Happy week! --Quite A Character (talk) 10:18, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Religion and sexuality categories.

Hi Nzd. WP:BLPCAT is very clear on when religion and sexuality categories should and shouldn't be used: "Categories regarding religious beliefs (or lack of such) or sexual orientation should not be used unless the subject has publicly self-identified with the belief (or lack of such) or orientation in question, and the subject's beliefs or sexual orientation are relevant to their public life or notability, according to reliable published sources." Frank O'Farrell may satisfy one of those criteria, but he does not satisfy both - his notability derives from football. Category:Irish Roman Catholics further states: "Members of the Roman Catholic Church, either past or present for whom their membership was or is a defining characteristic or related to their notability and where the person has self-identified as a Roman Catholic." Regards, BastunĖġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 09:58, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

@Bastun: I had read that along with WP:CAT/R and figured he would be eligible as president of a Conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, but you are probably right about relevance to notability and it's certainly not something I'm going to get into a tussle over. Thanks for the message. Nzd (talk) 11:46, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi, it would appear the Skyblueshaun doesn't share the overall opinion from the recent RM as he has moved the page back to Aherne-Grant. I initially assumed this was a good faith move until I noticed it wasn't the first time he's done this according to the article history. I'm not overly familiar with the situation so thought it best to bring to your attention instead. Kosack (talk) 21:17, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi there,

when i think of "accessdate", first thing that always comes to mind is the FIRST time someone browsed/retrieved source to article, hence my adjustments.

Sorry for any (possible) inconvenience, happy editing and equal 2019! --Quite A Character (talk) 23:27, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

No worries, WP:ACCESSDATE says "The full date when the content pointed to by url was last verified to support the text in the article" (my emphasis), so if you go back to an existing ref and add more content from it, you should really update it. Cheers, Nzd (talk) 23:32, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Sausage roll

It's not a "personal opinion" as you describe it. Several editors have tried to put the "vegan sausage roll" content into the article following the incident in the UK, and several editors have reverted it. The comment is a defense mechanism. Please don't edit war over this. -- Scjessey (talk) 13:00, 8 January 2019 (UTC)

@Scjessey: I have no intention of edit warring but the policy guidance is clear: They should not be used to instruct other editors not to perform certain edits, although where existing consensus is against making such an edit, they may usefully draw the editor's attention to that. I see other editors reverting some related content, stuff that I would have reverted myself had I seen it, but that doesn't mean there is a consensus not to mention the subject at all. There is nothing on the talk page. The message you have elected to use is counter to policy the MoS and unnecessarily bitey. Nzd (talk) 13:11, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
The comment is the best way to warn people not to add transient content being added because of a recentism problem. In a few days, the story will blow over and the problem will go away. Your short-sightedness in this matter, by enforcing what is only a guideline, is unhelpful. Nevertheless, I have started a talk page discussion in the hopes it will draw attention. Unfortunately, the IP editors trying to shoehorn this unsourced content into the article will just ignore it. -- Scjessey (talk) 13:45, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
@Scjessey: Thanks, I'll respond there. You are correct about the MoS, amended accordingly. Nzd (talk) 14:05, 8 January 2019 (UTC)
@Scjessey: Sorry, got embroiled in something else. That looks like a good solution and I'm not sure I can add anything now. Maybe if anything else comes up, a "please see talk page/other article" message would be OK. Cheers, Nzd (talk) 00:43, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Uzielis (talk) 14:13, 31 December 2018 (UTC) Greetings, Nzd! I find it puzzling that you state that I didn't provide a reliable source when it was very clear that the interview came from a 2004 edition of Entertainment Weekly, and I remember buying a copy of that magazine and reading it a few times, so there you go, with all due respect. It was there all along. Uzielis (talk) 14:13, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@Uzielis: Hi, an unspecified copy of a magazine that you "remember reading" isn't verifiable. The only reference I could find to this was IMDb, which isn't a reliable source. Can you locate the edition? Thanks, Nzd (talk) 14:39, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

@Uzielis: Sorry for the delay in replying. There is a line in the references dos and don'ts that says don't cite a source you haven't seen for yourself, and I don't personally have access to back issues of EW so wouldn't be able to action this. If, as seems to be the case, you don't either, I would suggest that this applies to you too. I'm also not sure how much the quote adds, given the quote from AXS TV in that section, but if you think it's important enough I can try to help with verification. WikiProject Resource Exchange might be a good place to start. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 14:18, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

access-date in PDF files

Per Template:Cite news#URL – "access-date: Not required for linked documents that do not change. For example, access-date is required for online sources, such as personal websites, that do not have a publication date; see WP:CITEWEB. Access dates are not required for links to published research papers, published books, or news articles with publication dates." SLBedit (talk) 00:14, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

@SLBedit: Fair enough. Note that WP:ACCESSDATE has it a little differently, saying ...should be used for links to news articles on commercial websites (these can change from time to time, even if they are also published in a physical medium). Note that access-date is the date that the URL was checked to not just be working, but to support the assertion being cited, although I agree these PDF's probably wouldn't be covered by that. Personally, I wouldn't have removed these just because they're not required, but each to their own. Thanks for the clarification. Nzd (talk) 01:09, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

Achille Emaná revisited

Hi there, all well? Hopefully so...

Please, don't revert me again at this article. What did I do in this instance? 1 - added coherence in display of box fields (as did you, but only halfway :)) and categories (the way we had it, Spanish clubs/leagues look better if "glued"); 2 - avoided presence of one-liners in late club career, avoided overusage of "club" in said same paragraph; 3 - improved/matched display of vast majority of refs (in that regard, two things: 3.1, #28 is not from "Al Final de la Palmera", that must be the name of a segment at ABC; 3.2, no point in improving display of Sky Sports-related stuff, newspapers look different than publishers/others now and 99,999999999999999999% of them - if not all - do not even have date), adding authors in the process.

Attentively, enjoy your weekend --Quite A Character (talk) 12:26, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

@Quite A Character: I have no issue with you reverting the previous unsourced change, but as I was able to verify said change I readded it. If you edit a previous version of a page, it triggers a revert notification. Nothing personal, it was just easier to reuse what had already been added. Nzd (talk) 12:59, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

No mate, you were SUPER correct to revert/re-add today, he does play for Badalona :) What I meant was on 7 October 2018, when I composed the Mumbai sub-section. More: LAPREFERENTE.com does not work well for me when I consult it at work (only at home, go figure), so it's still to be determined if he played league games for Gerena; if he did not, we'll have to remove the T. Zico

You reverted my change, saying "league only on infobox". I don't understand it. What do you mean by "league"? There is no league on International soccer. Brazil for example has several championships, state, national, sometimes regional. South America has other tournaments as well. None of them are "leagues". I just copied Zico's numbers from the Portuguese Wikipedia page, after I checked in a historian page. Where are you getting yours? Can you help me understand why the revert? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Macribas (talkcontribs) 03:42, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

@Macribas: Hi, the infobox should include stats for the domestic league only. This is noted at the bottom of the infobox and the documementation is here. It looks like pt-wiki has different rules for which stats are included in the infobox. The numbers you added didn't match the numbers in the career stats table (the first column of which is titled 'domestic league', which matches the 'Campeonato nacional' column on pt-wiki). The numbers you are added were for all competitions, even continental ones, so these would be incorrect by any definition of 'domestic league'. I actually raised a related question about Brazilian national/state leagues a while back on WikiProject Football – see here. Thanks, Nzd (talk) 17:43, 9 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks, I will look into that. May I ask why is so important to highlight the domestic leagues appearances and goals? What's the reasoning behind putting only those in the infobox? In my mind the international and continental tournaments are more important. Football aficcionados don't really care for domestic league numbers only. Macribas (talk) 17:37, 10 February 2019 (UTC)macribas

@Macribas: That decision was made before my time, but it's often a lot more difficult to find definitive totals for all competitions as many stats sites will only show league totals, or only a subset of the competitions. For example, in my 'area' of English footballers of days gone by, the two main resources, Joyce's Football League Players' Records 1888-1939 and Barry Hugman's Footballers, only include stats from the Football League (or Premier League for more recent players). It also avoids the issue of which competitions should be included/omitted (some editors, or even sources, may consider some as friendly tournaments, while others may not). In an ideal world, every player article would have an accompanying career statistics table to show data for other competitions. Nzd (talk) 18:52, 10 February 2019 (UTC)

December 2018

Your recent editing history at ICANN shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. --Guy Macon (talk) 13:35, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
