Removed db-g1/Remixism

RE: Remixism

It isn't actually enough for something to be just nonsense to merit speedy deletion, it actually has to be patent nonsense:

  1. Total nonsense - i.e. text or random characters that have no assignable meaning at all. This includes things like "1`- 5bl[9 1vn]304 0=10am[0v9a1 7", where random keys of the keyboard have been pressed.
  2. Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no intelligent person can be expected to make sense of it.

Remixism is neither of those, so AFD is the proper process for it. - ulayiti (talk) 11:43, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

ERP

Since you have recently posted at Enterprise resource planning I thought you might like to see that I too have added some stuff both there and to its Talk pages. This is just a courtesy notification that I have updated the article since your last activity there.

I believe that I have altered the tone of the article to correct what I thought was an unfortunate WP:POV, or historical bias, but there is also an issue with respect to adequately presenting information about commercial software, open source, and homebrew. ITFC Manager template

Hey, I noticed you've edited loads of manager pages to correct the link to the ITFC page, manager subsection. I think that you could probably have achieved this by editing the template instead of each individual page. But that probably doesn't help now! But good work nonetheless...! WHUFC query

all players that are in the West Ham player category have now player position category info added ... however, being a newbie, there's something going on with the links in the goalkeepers' category... any ideas why this cat and not others? Spyrides 21:54, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Western League

How you doing N? Did you know that your mob won the Western League title in 1907? My lot won in it 1908 and 1909. do you know anything about this? Be lucky, Lion King 22:30, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Great mate, though not quite as great as before the FA Cup draw earlier. Bloody Bolton again. Still, third time lucky eh.. Not too sure about this Western League thing. I'd never heard of it, and I can't find anything too official that mentions it. There is this page that records it:
1906-07 Western League Division 1B Champions.
Overall Champions after beating Division 1A Champions Fulham 1-0 at Chelsea (15 April 1907)
I'm pretty sure that'll have been the reserve team. Our progression into the Football League started through the Southern League Second Division, which we joined in 1899. We moved to the Southern League First Division the following year but stayed there for yonks. We came fifth in the Southern League First Division in 1907. That page doesn't mention this, but the reserves page does. I think they have that the wrong way round. There is also a page for West Ham United "A" just to confuse matters.
This page of spud results shows that the Western League ran concurrently with the Southern League, with some matches being played a couple of days apart. The Wikipedia page states that:
In the years before the Second World War, many teams played in both the Southern and Western Leagues; the Western League was considered as subservient to the Southern League.
The list of champions does show a number of other clubs that fielded reserve teams in the league.
I'll let you know if I find anything else. As an aside, it seems strange that we would be involved in a Western league. Did they let us in because of the West in the name? We aren't really west of anything.. - N (talk) 23:04, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me mate! weird innit? Maybe we both got booted out for having a row and the carrot crunchers were the only ones that would have us! I've stuck it on our page, we need all the "championships" we can get- WE didn't win The World Cup! Yeah Bloody Bolton- you'll have to go straight for their throats and nick a couple double quick, in any case It'll be a case of double shin pads all 'round! Looking at the spud page gave me a few ideas...
I looked at a player at random called Pass who scored 4 goals in 38 Southern League games, yet scored 6 in 12 in the Western League... this immediately says "reserve team player" to me.. There would also be more records/league tables/appearances etc. of the league in the club records if it was a competition considered worthy of the first team. Yet, I can also believe, from my reading of that period of the club's history, that even if it was a 'reserve' league, 1st teamers may have taken part because of financial obligations ie. the club has to stage the fixture in order to draw in extra revenue.Spyrides 00:40, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Eddie Chapman

Hi Nzd - I've had a delve through my records of Arsenal matches (it's a spreadsheet based on results from a now-defunct stats site). I can't find any record of a West Ham 6-0 win during the war years, the FA Cup win in 1946 excepted. According to my list Arsenal and West Ham played four times in 1940, as follows:

  • January 20 - West Ham 3 Arsenal 0 (League South 'A')
  • March 16 - Arsenal 2 West Ham 3 (League South 'A')
  • April 8 - West Ham 2 Arsenal 1 (League South 'C')
  • December 25 - West Ham 4 Arsenal 2 (Southern Regional League)

The only one of those that is after June was the match on Christmas Day, although the scoreline doesn't match. Looking further ahead in time, there were no other big wins for West Ham before the 1946 cup tie - there were a few 3-0 results, on January 24 and April 6 1942 and October 21, 1944. My results are fairly complete (leagues and cups, and a few friendlies) - perhaps Chapman's recollections were bit fuzzy, and he confused his appearance in one of West Ham's wartime victories with the 6-0 cup match? I find it a bit queer, because the consensus on the AfD was to delete the article along with its edit history. Stubs

Hello Nzd, Can you help me out, please? I recently edited the Alan Sealey article. It was a couple of sentences but now contains a fair bit of informnation. I removed the 'stub' tag. I looked at the stub pages and there was plenty about classifying stubs, but I couldn't see any guidance about removing the tag. I was 'bold' and removed it. You have put it back. History of West Ham United

Nzd, sorry for the late reply to your comments about my West Ham website. I also apologise for my aggressive tone in my first posting about the removal of the Wikipedia link to my site. I am still a victim of my tough working-class childhood.

I created my Spartacus Educational in 1997. I was a history teacher who wanted to produce materials that my students could use when studying local history. The website was popular with students all over the world and so I decided to make it into a full-time job. This of course meant that I had to find a way of funding the website. As I was fully committed to the idea that this information should be available to everyone who wanted to use it I rejected the subscription model. Instead I sold advertising space on my site. For many years I ran the website at a loss. However, since the emergence of Google AdSense, it has been possible to make a living from a website.

I am unclear why I should be criticised for selling advertising space in order to keep information free. I am aware that Wikipedia does not carry advertising. However, is a site owned by a multimillionaire morally superior to one being produced by an educationalist?

In fact, my main intention has been to create materials that have little commercial value in book form. I have therefore concentrated on writing about the past from the perspective of those without power. Historians tend to call this approach: “history from below”.

I went to school in Dagenham and have been a supporter of West Ham for over 50 years. As I have created a website that provides me with a reasonable living, I decided to spend the next couple of years producing a comprehensive online history of West Ham. This will enable students to research the subject in some detail. When I was a teacher a lot of the students were unable to do GCSE coursework on the history of West Ham because of the shortage of materials online. Hopefully, my website will able to change that situation.

My plan is to produce a year by year account of the history of West Ham. So far, I have produced the first-draft of the first 12 years.

The analysis of every season includes links to pages on individual players. So far, there are 62 biographies but by the time I have finished there will be over a 1,000.

I believe that it will become the most detailed account of the history of any football club on the web. I will not bother to add links to these pages at Wikipedia. Instead I leave it up to your good judgement to decide if Wikipedia visitors will benefit from such a link.

Unfortunately, John Farley’s pages do not rank very high in search-engines and his work is therefore being missed by West Ham fans.

I am using my site to give access to all the good sites on West Ham. These links appear on every one of my pages (including to Wikipedia).

I am hoping that this will be a collaborative effort. I will be posting messages on West Ham forums for fans to send me any information they have on early players. I am also hoping that relatives of the players will also contact me with information. This has happened with the rest of my website. Web surfers often do searches for relatives. As a result I have obtained a lot of material from the relatives of the people I have written about.

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion, guidelines for use at WP:MINOR). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and all users will still be able to manually mark their edits as being minor in the usual way.

For well-established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

His name is listed as George Furnell at the West Ham United F.C. Player & People List website, and also in the book Blows, Kirk & Hogg, Tony (2000). The Essential History of West Ham United. Headline. ISBN 0-7472-7036-8.{{cite book}}: CS1 maint: multiple names: authors list (link). I'd guess one may be a middle name, and there are precedents of players using their middle names at the time, for instance Henry Thomas Bradshaw, better known as Tom Bradshaw. David George Furnell? no, cannot say I use it that often as ref (or at all!), but thanks for the tip. I was just cleaning Matías Almeyda's article when I saw that Cláudio Taffarel and Hakan Şükür contained a similar source from that site. I thought that Google Books might be more suitable as a publisher than the previous Amazon.com, but in the meantime someone has changed Taffarel again, not quite sure why.

Particularly for players with '11' or '12' in the 'code' or where the N Brown page is not the usual grey table in the middle of the page but free text to the left, as at Tom Vansittart. Please do not remove cross-references between WP:P&G pages as you did at WP:Manual of Style/Lead section. Such pages are not articles, thus WP:SELFREF does not apply to them. It really needs third-party reviews to establish this. Hi Nzd. I have enabled e-mail via my user id on Wikipedia. I want to caution you that there's a limited amount of information that I have. I have researched Walter on Ancestry and have the 1911 census record where my grandfather Walter and his sister Gladys are living with Walter and his second wife in Thornaby. I also have info about his marriages from the same source. Since the 1921 census is still under embargo I can't verify him living with Isabel anywhere until it becomes public. The 1931 census results were destroyed in the Blitz and there was no other census while he was alive. There's "family lore" but that's not verifiable. His other children and their descendants I never met, but there is a "Robin Tranter" who seems to match the records I have and lurks on Twitter. He has not responded to my efforts to contact him. He may even be old enough to remember Walter at some level, or at least have a memory of Isabel. These things are full of surprises: I discovered that a girl I knew in high school was also a descendant of Walter's father, making us third cousins, and was in possession of Isaac's fireman's helmet. I made my first start against Wolverhampton, then I came on in a match v Grimsby in a cup match. I then started a match against Chelsea, then I played against Walsall in a cup game. @CraigS1969: The guidance linked in the edit summary lists as its first point: "Any site that does not provide a unique resource beyond what the article would contain if it became a featured article. In other words, the site should not merely repeat information that is already or should be in the article. Links for future improvement of the page can be placed on the article's talk page."
As the link is basically an intro to a book that you appear to have written yourself, I would say it would also be covered by the section below: "you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if Wikipedia guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked. Had enough of the constant vandalism. And it is vandalism as it’s two editors repeatedly inserting content that is false. It’s addressed in the talk page, a page that two editors tend to ignore and post away anyway. It’s clear as day they won’t discuss anything and will also ignore the fact their edits are disproven by sources. It needs intervention as this cannot continue. I read the previous WP:COMMENT you had cited in your ES when removing, and it noted you can if you come to a consensus.
Invisible comments are useful for alerting other editors to issues such as common mistakes that regularly occur in the article, a section title being the target of an incoming link, or pointing to a discussion that established a consensus relating to the article. They should not be used to instruct other editors not to perform certain edits, although where existing consensus is against making such an edit, they may usefully draw the editor's attention to that.
So I presumed you would want to be part of such a discussion to reach a consensus. It's then allowed to add a hidden text referring to that discussion. DA1 (talk) 22:24, 11 May 2018 (UTC)

You're being redundant here. You already reverted the edit, and then I invited you with the hopes of possibly reaching that consensus. I agreed with your revert the first time around when you cited WP:COMMENT. That's what I thought you were suggesting when you wrote "(no position on content)", I figured we were going to establish a position. DA1 (talk) 00:33, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

@DA1: Apologies, I obviously misunderstood your previous message. As per above though, I would be happy to support the addition of some hidden text that mentions the talk discussions.
