List of Italian actors

I made a booboo and the left it to see who's watchlist that list was on. Apparently nobodies as it took 8 days to revert me. I'm thinking of nominating that list, FYI. It looks like nothing more but a COI repository, while the category works fine as it is. Bulldog 21:58, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Navy redirects

We've been "bluelinking" the Navy of x links in the basic topic country lists, by creating redirects for them, even for the countries that have no navy.

There's been a little controversy over the navy redirects for the landlocked countries (many of which have no navy), as you can see above. But it's all been worked out. Each country with no navy gets a redirect to wherever it is reported that it has no navy, or failing that, to its "military of" article.

The country lists are coming along slowing but surely. It shouldn't take too much longer before they will be complete enough to move into article space (!), but I can still use all the help I can get. (hint hint).

The Transhumanist 20:46, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

We could sure use your help in bluelinking the links in these lists (each link appears in the one of the various country basic topic lists):

To bluelink them, create a redirect to wherever the information is covered. If there is no entity, redirect to where that is (or should be) covered.

If you have any questions, please contact me. The Transhumanist 20:58, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi there, I've made the change you suggested regarding the licence - I just wondered, would you be able to strikethrough any issues that you feel have been resolved? Just makes it easier for the casual reader to see how many things need doing. Parrot of Doom (talk) 21:47, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Exopolitics

The redirect of "exopolitics" to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exopolitics an article about the musical group MUSE seems malicious.

Exopolitics was deleted as a Wikipedia article last spring (I believe). I was not involved at that time, but have an interest in the subject, and hold a PhD from Indiana University in mass communications, and a long-term interest in SETI.

I believe this redirect is the result of some lingering animosity from that time. Suggest the redirect go instead to "Astrobiology" or some other related Wikipedia article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jbuchman (talkcontribs) 22:43, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I agree. I will have a look at the track listing of the albums by the group, and I will let you know. However, if you have enough reliable sources that demonstrate its notability, you are welcome to edit the, replacing the redirect with your text.
However, if there are not enough reliable sources to do so, you can change the target of the redirect by editing it. Pie is good (Apple is the best) 22:50, 29 September 2008 (UTC)

Ooops, sorry about the unsigned comment above (let's see if I've mastered that below).

I would like to edit the redirect, perhaps initially to the Wikipedia article on exobiology (and if there is a legit field of exobiology, then it seems, for that part of exobiology that becomes technologically advanced, exopolitis might just be legit as well).

There was an exopolitics article about a year ago that was removed following a deletion review at the time. I would like to give a shot at bringing it up to Wikipedia standards. Am new to this. Made a request back in June (I think) to have the old article (emailed to me, placed somewhere, I forget) for me to revise.

I do hold an earned PhD in telecommunications, have written about SETI, find the field fascinating and within the ballpark of legitimate academic study (if a bit out in left field).

Any advice you have on what the next step for that is, is welcome and genuinely appreciated.

"ou are welcome to edit the, replacing"

I think there's a word missing after the "the" and before the ",".

My apologies in advance for not being able to figure that out completely on my own, even with all the FAQs here.

Jbuchman (talk) 20:14, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, I see why you aren't able to edit. It has been fully protected, which means that it can only be edited by administrators. You can create a draft article in a user subpage such as Special:MyPage/Exopolitics. Create the sandbox by clicking on the link.
Once the article is done and complies with policies and guidelines such as neutral point of view, verifiability, notability, Neologisms etc., place an {{editprotected}} on Talk:Exopolitics so that an administrator can see that you want the article edited. Then explain why and how you wish for the article to be edited. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Pie is good (Apple is the best) 20:37, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll work on that.

Is it possible to get a copy of the article as it was just before deletion? And a copy of the deletion discussion concerns?

Also is it possible to change or remove the redirect to MUSE CD? Or has that been likewise locked?

And if so, is it possible to review the decision on that redirect?

Secondly I'm considering asking for a review on the deletion review page regarding the decision to keep the ACCA article. Any advice or counsel on that? If that article meets a notability standard, then it seems exopolitics surely should!!!

And is there a deadline for asking for a review after a keep decision? (I did not realize only 5 days were typical for such reviews, thought I could comment this weekend, but the decision was already made.

I am reading FAQs here but seems it's a steep learning curve (at least for me!)

Thanks again for your help. (My 11 year old has been saying "I like PIE!" for the past two years, since we visited pietown new mexico a few years ago.)

Jbuchman (talk) 23:02, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, according to the Page history here, there has never been an article. Only administrators can view the deleted history. However, according to the logs of the page, it has been deleted several times according to this and has therefore been protected in order to prevent further disruption. Cite access dates

Regarding putting in access dates, should they all be now? Grsztalk 00:38, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I believe so, see WP:CITE and Crtl+F the following sentences:
the date you retrieved it
For web-only sources you should also include a "Retrieved on" date in case the webpage changes in future
Also, see Template:Cite_web. Pie is good (Apple is the best) 00:46, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
So then if I don't have the original date, today's date will suffice? Grsztalk 00:49, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, don't try to remember what date you accessed them last. ;-). Pie is good (Apple is the best) 00:50, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

I think I got your final comments about the article covered. How's it look? Blackngold29 21:54, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

Non-repetitive task

For a change of pace, try developing the whole topic outline for a particular country. So far, I've completed 28 of them (well, complete enough to move them to article space). They're a blast, and each country is unique, with a flavor all its own.

The Transhumanist 19:54, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Tropical Storm and Hurricane article names

By convention, (YEAR) is used on tropical storms and hurricanes if there has been more than one storm of that name and there was not any particular storm that "deserves" the non-year-article. The non-year-article is usually a disambiguation article or a redirect to one, like Tropical Storm Norbert. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 22:42, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Please lend a hand

Work is proceeding slowly but steadily on the Country topic outlines, and I need your help to speed things up.

The...

  • Population:

...entry needs to be filled in on all of these pages.

For example, this entry for Albania looks like this:

All the rest need to be completed in the same way.

The data can be found in the info box on the article for each country.

If you can handle this, I've got some more complex tasks for you to sink your teeth into (or additional simple ones, if you prefer).  :)

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

The Transhumanist 00:35, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I'm sorry I haven't been pitching in. It's just that I hate repetitive tasks. However, this seems pretty fun, so I'll be doing A-M and possibly more if I don't get bored. Pie is good (Apple is the best) 00:54, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Firefox + the Linky add-on helps speed this type of task up. Once you have Linky installed, you select (highlight) an area of a page and then right-click to get window's/firefox's drop down menu. Linky is on there. Click on Linky, then click on open selected links in tabs. It will open each page in the selected area in a window within the Firefox window. Rapidly switch between them with Ctrl-Tab. Nuke the current one (when you are done with it) with Ctrl-W. You can also set up a list with URLs, and include Wikipedia's edit code, so that each article starts out in edit mode. Beats the hell out of waiting for each page to load clicking on them as you go.
If the above instruction doesn't make any sense, let me know, and I'll post you some step-by-step instructions.

To see what I mean about Linky, use it on these URLs (it can open 99 tabs at a time, so don't select more than 99):
