Re: Greetings![edit]

Thanks for your comment about User:Timeshifter/Unchecked admin misconduct. I don't know if we have crossed paths before. I wouldn't be surprised if we had. I am currently seeking comment on this thread if you are interested:

Current discussion concerns the revised proposal:

Orphaned non-free media (File:Former Guantanamo captive Saleh al-Zuba, in Yemen.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Former Guantanamo captive Saleh al-Zuba, in Yemen.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:01, 3 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Algerian war[edit]

See User:Geo Swan/Comparison of Iraq War to the Algerian War. Hope you can pull up enough stuff to bring it in line with policy. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:20, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As the nominator, I admit I may have been a bit reckless on this one. I took the article to AFD to get some more eyes on it, but to be honest I wasn't really expecting a 'delete' outcome. Perhaps that wasn't the right answer: with the OR material removed, it looks much better. I'm still ambivalent on whether there's really enough to justify having an article on the subject, but there is some useful material there which could have been kept or merged somewhere. If you think it's worth keeping this article, I suggest you do what you can to find more sources on the subject and improve it, then take to WP:DRV. Good luck. Robofish (talk) 19:35, 5 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Geo Swan. The article had already been userfied to User:Geo Swan/Review/Ralph Kohlmann in September 2008. At that time, the current mainspace article had already been rewritten, so the edit history would be completely jumbled if the page histories were merged. As such, I recommend handling this using parallel versions instead, simply by dropping a note on the talk page. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 16:11, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion Review of Muhammed Qasim[edit]

I requested a deletion review of Muhammed Qasim as I saw that the bushranger had deleted the history of the page after the AfD was closed as a redirect. Someone has already commented that it was G7'd on your request. I'm surprised if that is the case, but if it is not the case you should definitely respond at Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2012_August_17. Actually you should probably respond at the deletion review either way. If you requested the deletion, can you respond so I can understand your reasoning? Thanks! --Joshuaism (talk) 15:45, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for August 19[edit]

Hi. When you recently edited Abdul Zahir (Guantanamo Bay detainee 753), you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Department of Defense and Presiding Officer (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you for uploading File:Des Groseilliers 21194 xl.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. A beer for you![edit]

It seems a large number of articles which owe their very existence to you have gone through AfD (and not all have survived). That you are still here speaks to the determination and resilience of a working man. So have a beer on me, and we'll hope things start going better soon. Disambiguation link notification for August 26[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited William K. Lietzau, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rahmatullah (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hey man I haven't got much of an opinion over what's been happening, other than I find your ability to keep your cool inspirational. Many people would have lost it or walked away by now. Cheers, PhnomPencil talk contribs 20:47, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

AfD closures[edit]

My apologies for not realising you haven't been notified of the discussion. I guess if you have arguments for keeping the articles which you would've presented had you been notified of the AfD, then you can try WP:DRV citing that due process has been violated when User:DBigXray filed the AfD. AnI Question[edit]

How long would it take you to bring an article thatyou created and was deleted back up to a standard where It could pass an AfD? Tazerdadog (talk) 01:49, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Short answer -- about six hours.
Long answer?
Those articles fall into different groups:
  1. The least well-known captives articles can not be rewritten or updated to meet today's more stringent standards, as today's more stringent standards require a more stringent quality of references, and for the least well-known captives those references don't exist.
  2. A number of the articles on Guantanamo captives were in a state that was hard to defend when DBigXray started his campaign, either because they hadn't undergone a much needed update/rewrite, or because they had been inappropriately gutted -- yet they merited being kept as separate articles, either due to the good quality references that had been inappropriately gutted, or due to newer good quality references, that hadn't been incorporated into the articles. These are the one that I think would take me six to twelve hours to rewrite/update to a state where I think they could sail through a fair-minded {{afd}}.
  3. The most notable captives, like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Omar Khadr have been kept sufficiently up to date, and while there are a few people who would delete those too, most people would not agree to deleting them, even if someone stimulated a rythymn where contributors get into a mob mentality and stop actually giving each article a separate fair evaluation.
What percentage of the articles fall into each group? First, I know that this is not for me to decide. Mine is just one voice in the discussion.
I tried -- unsuccessfully it appears -- to stimulate a discussion of where the dividing line should be between those captives who merit individual articles, and those who don't.
DBigXray's nominations included captives who faced war crimes charges. While I understand that the dozen or self-identified military experts who always vote delete don't accept that facing war crimes charges makes one a notable individual, I don't think this view would be shared among the wider wikipedia community.

You might want to take a look at the most recent section in the ANI debate in that case. I got an admin to name a few specific articles that he thinks are representative of your work. I'm pushing to get it all moved to the incubator, as I think that this is the best place for most of them at this time. Tazerdadog (talk) 21:38, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
