What Purpose Did Your Edit Serve?

On July 26th you edited the page War_Powers_Resolution and removed this sentence: "The War Powers Resolution was disregarded by President Clinton in 1999, during the bombing campaign in Kosovo, and again by President Obama in 2011, when he did not seek congressional approval for the attack on Libya, arguing that the Resolution did not apply to that action. [1]"

So my question is: Why?

What purpose does it serve to remove this information? The information provided in this sentence is a proven fact, and perhaps more important to Wikipedia, it is sourced. What are you trying to accomplish by removing this information? Seanr451 (talk) 14:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

  • If you control the history of War_Powers_Resolution you will see, that it was not me, who removed the passage. It was done under some IP. So, please check more carefully in the future. Dewritech (talk) 16:30, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Ooops! My mistake. I did check the changes, but I obviously made a mistake. Sorry about that. Seanr451 (talk) 02:23, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I cannot say that I strongly disagree with any of your individual edits at Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg that I have looked at so far, but I still got a bit suspicious. The result is the thread at WP:COIN#An instance of paid editing? It is mostly about a group of sock puppets editing the second re-creation of an article that you re-created after its first AfD, but also mentions you in a way that may require your response. Hi, Dewritech, I wonder if the following note relates to any of my actions. If so, please translate because I am still quite new to Wikipedia. Thanks!Khnassmacher (talk) 13:58, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Some steps to wikify the article:
  • first section too long;
  • history begins in 1949 with a short hint to 1930s; so additional info to the time prior 1949 is necessary to understand the initial aims of legislation;
  • no section gives a detailed overview of the initial legislation and the following development;
  • new section with current challenges better (sources!!);
  • graphics for spending and revenue needed;
  • sources and citations must be improved;
  • in general the article needs structural and linguistic improvements.

Hope, this helps a little. -- Dewritech (talk) 09:43, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Dewritech, thanks for your productive suggestions. I have started to do something about the first one and will continue with that until I am satisfied with the result. The others will take some time because they need some additional research. Thus - for the time being - just one more remark on your final suggestion: Because my mother tongue is German I will not be able to do much about the linguistic improvements. That work will have to be done by others. All the best, Khnassmacher (talk) 08:11, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I see that you used automated means to add the wikification needed to the article. Did you read/review the article? I realize that there are too few wikilinks compared to most articles. I'm wondering -- what words need to be wikilinked? Few words in that particular article need wikilinks for a normal English-speaking person to understand. So what needs to be done? I think the AWB gives a false positive. You're the second person to add the tag without explanation so I want to know why it needs wikification. The newspaper is a small town newspaper so it's not reasonable to expect that its parent company or other newspapers mentioned will get articles. Royalbroil 04:57, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Wikify:

  • question of notability
  • outdated information
  • only few references

-- Dewritech (talk) 20:06, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Wikify means adding internal links which is why I was confused. You're thinking other issues. Issue #1 is {{notability}}. It has 4 references which is great for a very small article. If you want to challenge notability then started a deletion discussion. Rarely are newspaper articles deleted based on notability if they have even a few references. I don't understand why you're bringing up outdated information. Nothing in the article is date dependent. It's the history of the newspaper. Has someone else bought the paper causing the article to become majorly outdated? Issue #3 is the references. That's a strong number of references for such a small article. Nearly every paragraph is referenced. I have used the newspaper as a reference on a few articles which is why I created the article.
Thank you for replying and shedding light on why. The article isn't perfect. Just like a lot of Wikipedia there is room for improvement. We're all volunteers, and I appreciate that you spent the time to explain! I'm going to leave the Wikify/cleanup tag on the article. Royalbroil 01:20, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

Editorial Disagreement

We appear to be having a disagreement as to recent vandalism on Ann Olivarius. As the original author of this page, I have seen previous attempts at vandalism on it too. The latest edits by SurlyStar (whose account appears to have been created solely for the purpose of making these edits) are misrepresentative of the facts and have the effect of skewing the picture. I believe Oogui was right to undo SurlyStar's edits. If you think otherwise, perhaps we can have an alternate version that is more representative and NPOV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pukkativa (talkcontribs) 20:24, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

According to their contribs Pukkativa and Oogui act like WP:SPAs. The edit of SPA SurlyStar is backed by the given ref.-- Dewritech (talk) 16:08, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Firstly, I cannot comment on Oogui but I am certainly not WP:SPA. Ijust happen to be the original creator of this page and therefore vested in ensuring it is not vandalised.
Secondly, SurlyStar is clearly WP:SPA. The account came completely out of the blue to include one edit of an event from 8 months ago, and to present that event in a biased non NPOV light. I hate to comment on people's intentions but it is clearly someone with an axe to grind.
Thirdly, you are wrong in that the edit is backed up by the link. Yes, the decision revokes her application but it does NOT make a finding of misconduct, which is the sort of allegation that is extremely defamatory, especially when talking about lawyers.
Fourthly, even if the statement were true (which it is not) its addition in the context of the article violates NPOV. Minor disciplinary events happen all the time. She is still clearly practising and doing the work for which she is known in the UK and the US. She was recognized by the ACLU AFTER this event happened. But SurlyStar's edit gives the impression that she's been disbarred for dishonesty, which is NOT the case.
So, for all these reasons, I am respectfully undoing your edit. If you restore SurlyStar's edit as is, we will have to resolve the dispute. As I have suggested before, I'd be happy for a neutral representation of this event to be included if the community considers it necessary (I do not), but SurlyStar's edit is a) untrue; b) defamatory; c) incomplete; d) violation of NPOV; e) vandalism. Please do not restore it. --[User:Pukkativa]
1: All your activities in Wiki have been centered around this article.
2: Obviously SurlyStar is a SPA, but this doesn't make the edit automatically POV.
3: According to the reference, "The State of New York Supreme Court, Appellate Division Third Judicial Department ORDERED that respondent is found guilty of professional misconduct set forth in specifications 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 as found by the Referee and this decision" - so there was a finding of misconduct.
4: This is definitely not just a minor disciplinary event.
So I'll restore the deleted edit and copy this discussion to the Olivarius-Talk. If you want to answer, pls do it there.-- Dewritech (talk) 16:01, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eliasliedholm (talkcontribs) 12:24, 6 March 2013 (UTC)

Regarding the deletion of Iron Soul Awakening Page

Hi Sorry to bother you. I have contacted you about "speedy deletion" tag for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Soul:_Awakening. I'm not still sure why it is tagged but that is the page for the upcoming game for PC and Mac. Our team is currently negotiating with various publishers and sales portals. Sadly, because of our location (Iran) we don't have an international office. I've added a few external links as well as one reference to the IGF page. Hope it helps. Thanks for your time.

The game doesn't meet WP:Notability (games) yet.-- Dewritech (talk) 11:34, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello again. Does adding reference to the IGF link as well as outside sources help the Notability aspect? Sahebkaran (talk) 11:45, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
According to WP:Notability (games) a game is appropriate for an article if it has been the subject of significant commentary or analysis in published sources that are independent of the game creator. PR on IGF or facebook is not enough.-- Dewritech (talk) 11:48, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for the info. If it's not too much trouble, could you give us a few tips about this. We are about to announce the game for various sites and press. We also have a written preview on this site (indiestatik.com/2012/12/07/iron-soul-awakening/) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sahebkaran (talkcontribs) 12:12, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
All these aren't independent of the game creator. So notability can't be established by anything you do. Maybe just wait for upcomming commentaries, reviews, etc. As long as there are no third-party sources, you won't be able to establish an article for the game.-- Dewritech (talk) 12:23, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
This link (indiestatik.com/2012/12/07/iron-soul-awakening/) is independent and a short preview / review of the game. Sahebkaran (talk) 12:56, 6 March 2013 (UTC)
This single source, which claims itself to be some form of promotion does not establish notablilty.-- Dewritech (talk) 09:45, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Szent Hét

My reason why I aimed to write this to clarify the difference between Hungarian and Mexican way of celebrating this holiday. I think it might need clarification in the title to write Szent Hét (Mexikó) as I see there is no hungarian version of it, just spanish, I think it would be great to keep this article as the Holy Week in MExico truly is different from what we know in hungary. Can I change the title than? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cslexi (talkcontribs) 12:30, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't a matter of title, but language.-- Dewritech (talk) 13:44, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Removing "Proposed deletion of biographies of living people" template.

As you can see at Wikipedia:Proposed deletion of biographies of living people#Objecting, a PROD BLP template may not be removed from an article unless the article contains reliable sources. IMDb is not a reliable source. JamesBWatson (talk) 13:23, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for notification. Wasn't aware of IMDb not meeting WP:RS.-- Dewritech (talk) 08:41, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
As far as verification of facts is concerned, although the vast majority of the content of IMDb is accurate, it is not reliable, as it accepts user-submitted content. However, as far as evidence of notability is concerned, it is pretty well useless, as it accepts content about just about almost anyone who has ever done anything to do with a film, no matter how minor. Although IMDb is a useful source for external links, there is a very well-established consensus that it cannot be regarded as a reliable source. JamesBWatson (talk) 12:04, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Vandalism tag

I don't think "vandalism" was the right tag for Mcdaavsystems just now - that should only be used for entries that seem to be intended to damage the encyclopedia, or at least that no reasonable person could have thought improved it. Here the title was odd - part of the user's username - but the content was coherent. However, as is often the case with a random passage of coherent text like this, it was a copyvio, and I have zapped it as such. Feeding a sentence or two into Google is the way to check for copyvio, though in this case the source was listed as a reference. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 12:07, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Ok, for me Mcdaavsystems was a try to "pass" the entrance with nice content in order to rewrite it later (spam). But that impression might have been wrong.-- Dewritech (talk) 12:41, 18 March 2013 (UTC)
You may well be right, but spamming still isn't vandalism, unless persisted in after warnings. He evidently works for McDaav Systems, so I have put a COI warning on his user page. JohnCD (talk) 13:48, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for Constructive Advice for Reincloud!

== Hello, Dewritech -- I cannot really say "thank you" for the speedy deletion of my article, but I do appreciate your comments and constructive advice. This was my first posting, and it almost seems like a trial by fire. I do think the subject has a significant footprint in the innovation generally known to Silicon Valley, and I accept that it is my shortcoming for not presenting the information well. I will respectfully repost the article, and I have initiated a talk page, and I hope you will understand that I am not trying to be a nuisance but want to express in the best way possible the information that I have learned from my time in the area. Thanks again. Hairhorse (talk) 21:49, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dewri, I think the article you removed is critical of the Davos approach to cyber security in 2013. I think the article constitutes an important document. I would appreciate a reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.77.187 (talk) 12:49, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Playlista

Hello Dewritech,

Thank you for help me to understand how to use Wikipedia... I'm a new user. I started to contribute in Wikipedia with something I did (Playlista), and my aim was just to describe something that exist rather than to promote it. The page of Playlista looks now like any page of any other application (e.g. soundhound). Yesterday I madr the first article of Playlista and it was deleted so I tried to be the more Encyclopedical possible. I appreciate a lot if you can highlight me where you see promotion rather than description.

Kind regards,

It sounds spammy (...allows you to recreate a jukebox experience) and promotional (The application is available in English, German, French, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Russian). In addition the article lacks reliable sources which prove notability.-- Dewritech (talk) 12:55, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dewritech. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for Burn studios residency, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. I specifically declined the A7 CSD due to asserted significance/importance as an international competition. Cindy(need help?) 16:31, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Cindy, for me WP:A7 covers Burn studios residency: An article about a real person, individual animal(s), organization, web content or organized event... None of the sources indicates notability.-- Dewritech (talk) 15:11, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Hey there! I hear what your saying. Just remember that the A7 criteria is a much lower standard and has nothing to do with notability. It is distinct from verifiability and reliability of sources. The article merely needs to assert importance and/or significance in any way. Now, if the article was submitted to AFD for community discussion, it may rightly be deleted, but CSD is the wrong deletion process for this article. Best regards, Cindy(need help?) 15:49, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Cindy, I got the point! Thanks.-- Dewritech (talk) 16:07, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Hi Dewritech, I hope it's ok to join this coversation and not start a new one! Admittedly I am still learning the ropes on Wikipedia. Thanks for your note re: burn studios residency, although I would indeed like to contest the deletion. burn studios residency is a globally recognised music program comparable to that of Red Bull Music Academy, which is currently documented on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Bull_Music_Academy I'm curious to know if you would also contest this page? I will make edits to support the importance of this page and hope it is not removed. Let me know if you feel I should know anything more on how to proceed, as a Wiki newcomer! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Piggyvice (talkcontribs) 17:43, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

speedy deletion tag

Dear Dewritech

We have attempted to add Pace Development as a wikipedia subject but it seems you have marked for speedy deletion and deemed that the article is not notable; I would argue that given PACE having received (perhaps not well referenced) coverage in publications worldwide and developing Thailand's tallest building as well as listing on the stock market and equal in size to numerous other Thai developers that are already quite ok listed on wikipedia, that the criteria under WP:CORP are met, if not well written. The most recent attempt was to create a starting platform from which 3rd parties could edit the entry. Please advise what you suggest.

Add reliable sources that prove notability.-- Dewritech (talk) 11:21, 18 March 2013 (UTC)

I have now added additional references and I ask that you give us another 3-4 days to tidy it up and continue referencing as all references so far are legitimate and neutral 3rd party major publications (Nation, Bangkok Post are Thailand's leading English daily newspapers)...look forward to hearing from you again it is now here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pace_Development as no doubt you can determine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mammoth67 (talkcontribs) 14:06, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

Egypt's Sarcasm Society, and Sarcastech

Hellow Dewritech,

I believe that Egypt's Sarcasm Society and Sarcastech warrant mention on Wikipedia, although my articles perhaps did not convey this. I would like more time to work on the ESS article, and would like to create a better, clearer article for Sarcastech which better explains things.

Thanks,

Disambiguation link notification for April 10

Hi, I received a notice that an article I put up for a company called From Nothing Game Studios was flagged for deletion, and then grossly deleted before I had a chance to actually defend it. I would think that an existing game development studio, with released software, and a legal tax ID would warrant enough for Wikipedia, especially since there are numerous studios here with an equal number of releases. This would seem to indicate that no effort was made to view any of the references or links. I should hope I don't need to dig up the tax records of the company. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TurboGamer (talkcontribs) 01:52, 11 April 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Scrape.it

This was originally a commercial software which was abandoned and open sourced as GPL. The website only serves as a demonstration of the software while no commercial profit is being made or any channels for that matter.

Let me know how we can resolve this, I am trying to open source a personal project which I am dropping commercial support, hence it's imperative that I get the community's help on building a free open source solution.

There exists no other open source alternatives, there are plenty of companies promoting their commercial products on wikipedia, I am trying to get a free open source solution to the hands of consumers for non profit.

Hoping to resolve this as soon as possible.

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Depta99 (talkcontribs) 15:42, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

ABOUT İstasyon Sanat Academisi

Greetings, Fistly I appriciate your quick attention.

Seconly I am sad to hear that you do not find it IMPORTANT ENOUGH to be in the Wiki. As a person who has wide information about the company, I can tell you the school had more than a few foreigner (non-Turkish) students in various fields. Second, since the school offers education in England under certain conditions, I find it sufficiently important to provide basic information about it. Maybe I may suggest you to take a look at my one other addition: "Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera". I translated this article to Turkish. But I could claim this article had no significant importance about history at all.

I'm afraid I am new but I am sure that the information that I tried to add is significat. The school has been active since 1980. I have noted in the article VERY IMPORTANT TURKISH ARTIST/PAINTERS names. I am certainly sure that the link below is no more important than the one I wrote:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola_Light (PRODUCT "M6")

And above all, I failed to understand why this article should not be in the encyclopedia, and the question is more bitter when we consider this encyclopedia refers to be one of the most decent if not the best and easiest in terms of accesability..

Please send me a message as you did previously.

thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Argeus ATREIDES (talkcontribs)

Thank you soo much for the link, I really appreciate your help. I hope you will be able to refer my question and reply as why would you consider my article not worth to be in an encyclopedia.

As I was refring to be new, I maybe should have added that in college I had "C++" lessons. So I can create an article by copying the suitable format to it such as I did with the "Information Box" . I was troubled with with the format of the page I created. I couldn't manage to make it look like an article that in wikipedia should look like. Unfortunately I had little time to deal with that at that moment. and now I am trying to understand where did I failed with the format.

Good day. 13:37, 10 April 2013 (UTC+2) (talk)

I am sorry to see that you have not still relied to me about this matter. My addition has been deleted it seems but I have to say the Turkish vrsion of it was approved and found suitable.

please help me to understand your point.
