Failed "good article" nomination

Upon its review on January 2, 2008, this good article nomination was quick-failed because it:

contains cleanup banners including, but not limited to, {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, {{NPOV}}, {{unreferenced}}, etc, or large numbers of {{fact}}, {{clarifyme}}, {{huh}}, or similar tags

thus making it ineligible for good article consideration. It's obvious thet Robbie's PR team are actively editing the whole article. For example, there is no mention of his recent critical, economic, psychological and artistic downturn.

This article did not receive a thorough review, and may not meet other parts of the good article criteria. The tag has been there since November 2007 and is very much warranted, as the section contains no references. I also note that even a cursory glance at this article shows lots of uncited facts and sections, which means this article could not pass as a Good Article even if the section in particular that was tagged was fully referenced. Walking definition of what now?

"With the success of Take That's comeback, Robbie Williams has become a walking definition of 'hubris'."

Best-selling UK male solo artist

The Article says that he's outsold every other British Male Solo Artist in the UK. It should say more Albums than any other such Artist. He's certainly sold less over-all UK Records than Cliff Richard, who is ahead of Robbie, when Singles & Albums sales are combined.82.22.122.117 (talk) 11:29, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Removal of stories

I am confused about why some stories, with links, have been removed from this page. I read somewhere on this website that the point of Wikipedia was to be an encyclopedia, read in 100+ years and used as a resource. It baffles me then, that stories about Robbie Williams are being removed. These are the types of stories that people in 100+ years might be interested in when researching him, no matter how good or bad the story is. I have always positively talked about Wikipedia when others have told me it's unreliable and lacks a LOT of information about some subjects. Sadly, I am beginning to believe these people are right, and I fear that many years from now people wishing to research Williams will be lacking some very important information about the man and his life/career. Just because something on here is not considered "important" by us, does not mean that it won't be to someone else in the future, or even the present day when researching a subject. I am aware that Wikipedia is the first port of call for many journalists, students, and regular people who just want to find out a little more about certain subjects. Robbie's interest in ufology

I noticed this sentence towards the bottom of the page:

"On 11 March 2008 Robbie Williams has quit being the mega successful pop star and moved on to become an alien investigater."

No, it's true and he is serious about his interest in ufology. He's deeply into it, it seems. He participated in a BBC Radio documentary regarding UFOs and extraterrestrials recently. I was surprised to see that this Wiki article barely mentions ufology. I'm not a fan of Robbie Williams' music, but I might add a section here on his interest in ufology which is now a major part of his life and probably will be for many years to come, judging by his comments on the subject. He hasn't quit music because of it, he had some experiences that made him interested in the subject, Robbie says that the Jon Ronson interview is probably the most factual on what his thoughts are. He is a member of the AboveTopSecret website, he stated this in an interview, and you can see a thread here where he does a question and answer session, his username is chrisonabike.

Copies sold number incorrect?

There are a few areas in the article which are obviously wrong, so please verify and change. In section "I've Been Expecting You: European success in 1998," towards the end of the first paragraph, it reads "The song went on to sell over 4 copies in the UK..." - should this read "4 million copies"?

In section "The Ego Has Landed: Aiming for the American market in 1999," the first sentence of last paragraph reads "went on to sell 14 copies" and "platinum sales over 7 copies." Should both of these reads 14 million and 7 million, respectively? Nouanoua (talk) 11:40, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

"Williams appears to struggle with depression, insecurity, and self-loathing"

...and after reading travesty of a Wiki entry (it's basically just a fanzine containing the outpourings of what sounds like very young teenage fans), I'm not surprised. He certainly sounds like someone who is depressed, insecure, and highly loathable. But Wiki is not the place for amateur psychological assessment.

Perhaps, now that his career is clearly heading down the toilet, someone could rewrite this article from start to finish, to give a more balanced view?

Addiction?

Robbie Williams cannot have been addicted to Seroxat (paroxetine). As a SSRI antidepressant you may have some (sometimes serious) withdrawal symptoms if it is stopped cold, but it is not habit forming, there is no craving associated and the passage should be changed to reflect this. Calling it an addiction is misleading if not completely wrong.

Numerous unsourced sales-figure related claims

First and most importantly, the page talks about Robbie Williams having sold as many as 95 million albums and singles combined world-wide, which seems unrealistic. We need a source confirming this outrageous figure.

Second, the page is full of unsourced claims addressing to the total sales of various of Williams' albums:

1. It claims that the album Life Thru a Lens has sold over 4 million copies world-wide (There is some source but it does not talk about sales-figures)Williams#Life Thru a Lens .281996.E2.80.931998.29.

2. It claims I've Been Expecting You has sold about 15 million world-wide (no source provided)Williams#I.27ve Been Expecting You: European success in 1998.

3. It claims that the album Sing When You're Winning has sold 6 million world-wide (no source provided) Williams#Sing When You.27re Winning: International success .281999.E2.80.932001.29.

4. It talks about Escapology having sold 3.5 million world-wide (again no source provided) Williams#Escapology .282002.E2.80.932003.29.

5. Greatest Hits under 8 million world-wide (no source again) Williams#Greatest Hits .282004.29.

6. Intensive Care over 7 million world-wide (no source) Williams#Intensive Care .282004.E2.80.932005.29.

Not to mention that the page is full of multi gold/platinum claims for different countries without being backed up with sources.

95 Million albums sold?

I've just undone this edit by an anon, because it seems that it may be true, but should be cited or backed up somehow. I'm posting here to see whether anyone has information regarding this claim that can help source it. Latin American sales

The article states: "It is also estimated he is currently the best selling artist in Latin America at the moment with over 3 million sold." The cited reference does support the claim that he is very popular in Latin America but in no way says he is "currently" the best selling artist in Latin America. I think at most it supports a claim that he is one of the best selling English language recording artist in Latin America. Just as an example I would note that the reference to his Latin America sales are for his entire career. If that is the measure, then one should look at Julio Iglesia's entire career, having sold, ackording to Wikipedia, more than 250,000,000 albums (that is worldwide I have yet to find the Latin American breakdown - but I suspect that it outstrips Robbie Williams 3,000,000 LA sales. What is Robbie up to currently?

Robbie Williams is currently working on a new single called 'im not a tramp'. Its thought to be realised in a few months time and hopefully make it to #1. Its a truely amazing song, once he has made all money possible from this song he is going to become a fashion designer and hopefully make his own range of clothing.

Songwriting

Robbie Williams doesn't actually write songs. He only writes the lyrics. Something his first co-songwriter (forget his name) stated many times. Guy Chambers wrote all of the music in their collabarations. He stated Williams only provided lyrics.

Introduction paragraph of the article is strangely articualted

As is states in the introduction paragraph: "His career started at the age of 15 as a dancer with the pop band Take That in 1989, which he left in 1995 to launch his solo career.". It seems that all he did was dance in Thake That, which is wrongly putted. The article could do with a copy-edit. Citations need attention. Why is the section on "Sexuality" so long and involved? Finding Nemo's Academy Award nominated soundtrack

The reference to Beyond the Sea as part of Finding Nemo's "Academy Award nominated soundtrack" is inaccurate. The Academy Awards for music are for best original score and best original song for which Beyond the Sea would be ineligible. The song is, I assume, included on the CD of "music from the soundtrack of..." but that has nothing to do with any Academy Award - plus the link is dead.

How many records has Robbie Williams sold?

Ever since 2006, they've been saying Robbie Williams has sold 55 million albums overall (not including any Take That). Since then he's released Reality Killed the Video Star. RKTVS is Gold and Platinum across the world, so I think he sold some of them and people must have been buying his old albums during the past 4 years, so can anyone update that figure with something newer. --aliw136 19:21, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Nationality

According to WP:UKNATIONALS the opening section should describe a British persons nationality depending on how they identify themself, and uniformity should not be enforced. With that approach in mind, I searched for sources that have Williams suggest he has preference to being English rather than British and I found none. It has to be dealt with (as I have seen it done) on a case-by-case basis. This is probably the correct, but unfortunate, approach, principally because of the very lack of consensus that exists. It's all very well on occasion to cite various laws, but that does not override nationalistic pride (or, mutatis mutandis, its converse). The current position is supremely unhelpful as regards reverting editors who persist in imposing their personal preferences, and the best that can be achieved is to refer to previous consensus (where it exists) or to direct to the Talk page to form a new consensus. Very disruptive and it would be helpful if this was discussed in a single place rather than over five or six talk pages (see Talk:Susan Boyle and Talk:Leona Lewis). I've added the second Robbie Williams greatest hits, which was a limited album also titled 'Greatest Hits' (but is often called Greatest Hits 2 or II). It's been sat around in the Greatest Hits 2 disambiguation page for ages i wondered why it was not here, or in the template. Vocal coach?

I've never heard of Robbie Williams being referred to as a vocal coach before, yet it appears in the opening line of this article. Singer? Yeah. Songwriter? Yeah. Occasional actor? Perhaps a little over the top but he has done some very minor acting work. I struggle to understand the addition of vocal coach, though. Even if he is taken on as a "vocal coach" on some German tv show, I don't think that qualifies seriously as a vocal coach. At least, it's not a strong enough reference for the lead. Is this paragraph in any way relevant?

Hi, I was reading through this article and in the 'personal life' section there is this paragraph: On 30 November 2009, Williams's hairdresser Aaron Vickers was found dead in woodland near to Williams's then home in Wiltshire. Vickers first met Williams in Los Angeles after being introduced by their mutual friend Jonathan Wilkes. When Williams bought the £8.5 million mansion in early 2009, Vickers lived at the estate for some months but had recently moved back in with his mother who lives nearby. Vickers was last seen by his boyfriend at 1am on Monday 30 November, and his body was found hanged in the woods the following morning.[152][153]

My question is if this info is in any way relevant to understanding Robbie Williams? So, his hairdresser died near where Williams lived for a time. This seems to be completely irrelevant to the article, a factoid just spat out. It added nothing to my own understanding of Williams, does it add anything relevant to the article?. Yep, I followed the refs to the Jon Ronson UFO article which revealed that Williams mother had an interest in the paranormal and used to read Tarot cards for people. But this is not in the article that I can find. I think this info about his personal life is far more interesting than his hairdresser dying, unless there is good verifiable material about the longlasting or strong effect on Williams life. Perhaps a song dedicated or about the hairdresser (like Elton John wrote about a friend who was run over (I think)). It would be interesting to see what you find! Replacing an irrelevant paragraph about the death with one about his mother's interest in the paranormal would improve the article and add insight into Williams, I think. Overlong and not always factual

This entire Wikipedia entry looks like something that should be on a fan site and not a supposed electronic encyclopaedia. Like most Wikipedia articles on celebrities, it is long on hype and short on substance; doesn't include any controversial comments (all are promptly deleted) and rambles on and on and on. Wikipedia editors should ensure that listing are both accurate and representative. Mistake

it says "The album's first single "Tripping", was released on 3 October 2005, it became an international success topping the charts in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Spain." but you can see here, that it topped the charts only in three countries... why? Record Labels

Since I can't be changed by me, somebody has to do it. Robbie was with Chrysalis/EMI and his last album and compilation released by Virgin as a Solo Artist. He is now under Polydor since he came back with Take That. Take That are no longer with BMG, neither Sony Music, The band has never released something through Sony (or Sony/BMG during the merger). yeah basically. as there is a separate page for the discography then the standard way to list is just the studio albums, rather than going into detail, as that is what the discography page is for. so it just keeps from filling the page up too much, along with not including tables and charts etc. the format is spot on though! Personal life - Paxil/Seroxat

I did add "Paxil" at next to "Seroxat" because Paxil is how the antidepressant is sold in US and "Seroxat" in UK. I didn't do it right because the correction is in red. All the articles that refer to "paroxetine" use both "Paxil/Seroxat", just like this. The name "Aropax" as it is market in Australia and other countries is not used.

It would be good to put these information in the Health topic. By the way, Seroxat/Paxil is addictive and many people try to withdraw from it without success and end up having to take it for life. --Justana (talk) 14:52, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

Slim down, move sales facts & figures to tables?

This article reels off fact after fact after fact, without any narrative flow, and so is incredibly boring to read without giving much real information. It deals overly with very external shallow matters, the statistics and metrics of record releasing, rather than the man himself. Does anyone want to read in prose how this single reached this different chart position in these different countries and was declared platinum and 49th best selling of all time. And this is even after removing all the flowery language such as "smash hit" and "around the world" that I'm currently removing. All these chart positions and numbers sold could be much more efficiently displayed in a table, where people who wanted to read it could take it in much more easily, and people who didn't want to read it could ignore it and not have to plough their way through it to get to the meat of the article. In fact they are, in Robbie Williams discography! Personally I suspect no-one cares for that kind of information anyway. I'll happily remove all such sales talk. Robbie Williams and Charlie Condou

The Charlie Condou article has a statement "In his youth Condou lived with Robbie Williams." I've put a note on the talk page there to the effect that, taken in context, most people would read this as implying a sexual relationship. Given Robbie Williams' apparent protested heterosexuality, surely this would contravene our guidelines on biographies of living persons. I don't have the Attitute article to hand, and I refuse on principle to access the Sunday Times via a firewall, so I don't know whether the quoted sources would support the statement. Perhaps it would be safer to re-phrase as "shared a flat with", which is presumably not in question. I don't know whether this applies to Williams or not, but due to the highly addictive nature of nicotine, it's quite common for smokers to quit multiple times before leaving cigarettes behind for good. Well, after reading some of this article, it seems that a large proportion has been written/edited by monkeys.

A serious copyedit is needed to correct some of the terrible phrasing, facts need checking and refs need adding to certain areas. I will go over it if i have time over the next 2 days, but would prefer if others also looked at it. Graham Norton Show appearance

I just watched The Graham Norton Show tonight (23 November) on BBC America. Williams spoke about his wife and how he attended the birth of their child, whom he called "Teddy". Further, he spoke about two songs he wrote: one expresses his commitment to his wife and one, his commitment to his daughter. I don't know details about his career, so I didn't recognize the names of the two songs, but if there's a British editor here who could watch the show online, mention of these dedications would enhance the article's "Relationships" section, I think. Origin

In the infobox it says "Origin: London, England". What the hell is that about? He has nothing to do with London. Ok, his first solo album was recorded in London but that doesn't mean he originates from London. Music artists record albums all over the world. His music career originates from Stoke and Manchester, not London. I've put a "Citation Needed" tag on it and if it isn't referenced in a week, I'll remove London as his so-called "Origin". In the personal life section it lists Theodora Rose as his daughter but just refers to his son as 'his second child'. His son was named Charlton Valentine Williams, as reported by Robbie on his official Twitter (a simple Google search can confirm this). Relationships

There is a section named "Relationships and fatherhood". However, that section (relationships being in plural) is pretty uncomplete. While searching for articles about Jacqueline Hamilton-Smith, daughter of Lord Colwyn, in general, I occasionally found out that between c. 1995 and 1997 she had been Williams' first popular girlfriend and read this article: Robbie's elusive life through a lens. I'm posting it here, as I think it might help to complete that section, which only starts in 2006 at the moment. In 1998 his girlfriend Nicole Appleton even became pregnant, so I'm pretty sure that this section, which should actually start with his 1990's relationships and not in 2006, is not satisfying at the moment. --SamWinchester000 (talk) 17:25, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

- but a correct statement would be -

The issuable share capital of the PVFC company, at that time, was £1 million, although that share capital was not fully issued until a date after February 2006, at which point Robbie Williams held 24% of the issued share capital.

The issuable share capital was subsequently increased above £1 million and new share capital was issued, thus decreasing the percentage of the total share capital held by Robbie Williams.
