Requesting Help on Template:Countries_of_the_Indosphere

Hello, I've noticed you're doing a good job improving upon the South Asia article, an article I watch and frequently edit. A user named Atari400 has begun a new edit war on Template:Countries_of_the_Indosphere. He is frequently removing Afghanistan and Balochistan from the template. He claims that there is a consensus against them being there and that its placement has nationalistic overtones and that the Indosphere is neologism. I am busy at the moment but should be able to get back to the India issue on the weekend. My suggestion is that something like our text should go at the top of the talk page where most editors will look - I think they are your intended audience. The "casual" reader of the page should find that information if they click through to the appropriate articles. I'll be back on the weekend. Re:History of Pakistan

In response to your post on my talkpage about the edits to History of Pakistan:

• Thank you for the latest edits; they are definitely NPOV. It makes it easier when there are two pairs of eyes scrutinising the text. :)
• My aim is to bring the article up to featured article standards but I took a couple of weeks break from the article mainly because of the holidays.
• Just for comparison, please look at the version of the article when I started hacking away at it in mid-November 2007.

Re: Mountbatten and Gandhi/Nehru

Sorry I have been busy at work so I have not yet got round to finding the book. I hope to be free to do some editing in a couple of days.

On a sidenote I would like your opinion on a somewhat drastic change to the History of Pakistan article. When I started chipping away at the article I was concerned that there was far too much coverage of events up to the end of the 19th century CE but not enough focus on the more relevant 20th and 21st centuries. I feel that this "prehistory" of Mehrgarh, the Indus Valley Civilization, Taxila, the Indo-Greeks, Bactrians, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire and the British Raj is better left to the relevant articles daughter articles and History of South Asia and History of India. I am aware that the official line in Pakistan is that the history of the country really began with the arrival of Bin Qasim but we need to be more neutral and focus on the modern history from the founding of the Muslim League onwards. I think we need to replace three entire sections (Prehistory, Muslim period, and Colonial era) which currently take up some 25KB (out of 93KB) with a much shorter single section taking up no more than about 5 KB. However I would want to retain as many of the citations from those sections as possible, except the ones from Britannica and About.com. Citing these websites feels too much like citing a Wikipedia article when what we really need is the source that the Britannica or About.com got their information from. Reply. GG, I am actually new here and do mostly copy edits. But, left to me, I would follow a research paper like approach: the lead section to be an ‘abstract’ and the rest of the article very concise, to the point narrative, with references/links for detailed info on specifics. Unfortunately, new nations carved out of older ones face the liability of historical baggage and if they are also antagonistic then you have had it! In fact, ‘heroes’ for one side are often ‘plundering invaders’ for the other. In the present case, details may not be available in a language that a Pakistani, or observers say from UN, would consider neutral. For historical reasons and motives, the language has remained Indo-centric, lately acquiring even Indian ‘nationalistic’ overtones and agenda. If bias can be eliminated from the detailed articles to be referenced/linked from ‘History of Pakistan’ then your proposed approach is ideal. My two cents! Regards. Dear Wiki dr mahmad. Thanks for your edits to Indian religions. Your edits show a lot of clarity of thought and respect for others' view points. However, I noticed one error when you wrote Jainism as founded in 6th century: which would incorrect as Parsva the 23rd Jina of 9th Century BCE is a historical figure and most scholars hold Jainism as as old as vedic religion. Review on Saharanpur

For a detailed view please refer to my earlier inputs at the discussion page of ‘Saharanpur’. My argument is for a separate paragraph on ‘Handicrafts’ in ‘Saharanpur’ page. We just can’t ignore or downplay something a city is known for. What wooden handicraft is to Saharanpur, Lock work is to Aligarh, Metal craft is to Moradabad and carpet is to Bhadoi etc. Is it not fair & well deserved to mention some information about the locals who gave this identity?

My recommendation for content includes a separate paragraph based on these points: -

1. Atta Husain was a Kashimi Sheikh migrant, who started his career by manufacturing small utility carved items & selling them into the local market.

2. There were other migrants also who were also engaged & contributed in this trade however none was as significant as this family, which is remembered today by all the industry related people, which comprises almost half of city’s population, as father of wooden handicrafts industry.

3. At a time when handicrafts work in Saharanpur was at primitive stage with very few local artisans catering to domestic market without any concept of creativity, innovation and marketing, his sons formed ‘S.M.Imam M.Ikram’ a company, which revolutionized the whole industry & introduced factories, mass production and export that turned this industry as it is today, which was the factor behind Saharanpur’s handicraft identity in global market.

4. In today’s scenario there are other major players in this industry but the initiative of origin & development however remains with ‘S.M.Imam M.Ikram.'

5. The profiling of the city’s culture and heritage is incomplete without the mention of Jain community, their cultural presence as the oldest habitants of the region and their contribution in commerce and education.

1. Although very few data or sources are available on the Internet or print media regarding the above topic except books of Dr. O.C. Handa, a renowned author and expert in Himalayan region, who has published not less than 37 books and Madhu Jain, a senoir faculty in the local college. His book deals with subject directly. 'Wood Handicraft- A Study Of Its Origin And Development In Saharanpur' by O. C. Handa, Madhu Jain. ISBN: 8173871035

2. This book is an extensive research work that includes interviews with locals, photographic proofs of the awards, medals, certificates, and documents with references from various government departments and from the house of ‘S.M.Imam M.Ikram’.

I hope the above sources are substantial and ‘verifiable’, if required I can procure the above sources in physical too.

Hey, there is this editor User:SorenShadow who is making edits to this page about Iran not being part of South Asia. I need your help with this person. They keep reverting to an edit (made by a vandal IP) that pointlessly singles out Rutgers for not included Iran in their definition [1][2].

Some years ago, I had gradually brought "His. Pak" article to a Pak-centric narrative that read with proper balance - showing its Western regions' contributions as much as of Eastern. You may see in 'View history' archive how it looked like that time. Then some Indo-centric enthusiast interfered with it so much, before he was blocked, that Pak-region looked like a back yard colony of India through out the ages. I am having a look at this article after quite some time and, surprisingly, seeing that some not all of my subsections are revived again.
