Question

WikiProject Professional wrestling newsletter you delivered seems to be broken, I left a message to Scorpion0422 but it was showing inside the newsletter, when you click show. see here Gman124 talk 19:43, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, the newslatter you delivered was missing a |} at the end, might be on all the pages you delivered to. I fixed it on Scorpion's page see here. Gman124 talk 19:48, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you add an archive search to your boxes, or tell me the central place to get this done?

Thanks. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 07:25, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Propose it on Template talk:Archive box, perhaps? That's the template, isn't it? And it's not mine by any means. Миша13 07:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I couldn't figure out which template it was. I thought it might be yours, or at least you'd know where it was. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) (contribs) 07:59, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can MiszaBot run on fr.wikipedia?

Hi Misza13,

Would it be possible for you to make your bot MiszaBot run on the French Wikipedia? As and when the project grows up, collaboration between contributors intensifies, and it would be useful to have a mean of archival, something that your bot can provide in a good way.

I thought about creating my own bot for that purpose, but I definitely don't have the time for that. Moreover, people (including me) seem happy with MiszaBot. Could you make it run on the French project, please?

Thank you. :) Diti (talk to the penguin) 20:41, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, since you seem inactive, I posted the same message on Commons (because I watch Commons on a daily basis). Can you please reply over there (and archive this conversation here if you want)? Thank you. Diti (talk to the penguin) 10:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not really active neither there nor here (busy in real life). I'll get to do it eventually though, so cheers! Миша13 15:09, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Talk:International reaction to the 2008 declaration of independence by Kosovo

Can you please archive some of the old discussions on Talk:International reaction to the 2008 declaration of independence by Kosovo please? Regards Ijanderson (talk) 10:17, 4 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is set to minthreadsleft = 8 on that page and uses a default value of minthreadstoarchive = 2 - there's nothing to do. Миша13 23:18, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot's IRC dump

Is there by any chance a bot that displays only RC edits that are highlighted (a lot of bytes removed/added)? -- Mentifisto 03:49, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that what my bot does? In addition to blacklisted, greylisted, IP etc. edits, that is. Миша13 23:14, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't your bot display all edits? If not then in what channel does the bot that filters edits reside in? -- Mentifisto 13:00, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it doesn't. The feed is filtered. If you want to see all edits, go to irc://irc.wikimedia.org and join the #en.wikipedia channel. Миша13 13:36, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opposition to automatic archival of talk page posts more than 6 months old

There are articles, such as Cher, where un-constructive edits of a similar nature (for example, inflated sales claims which are poorly sourced; arguments that Cher is not gay and so should not be labeled a gay icon or an article of LGBT interest, etc.) could be dissuaded by a quick read of these earlier discussions on the Discussion page. By automatically removing posts older than 6 months, I would argue you are necessitating that similar conversations need to be had and points must be re-made, which wastes editors' time and will ultimately make archives redundant and longer than necessary. Certain posts may well serve no purpose once an unusual question has received a response, and would be reasonable to remove well before 6 months. However, there are a great many posts that should remain on talk pages as long as possible because they remain relevant.

Here's one irrelevant Talk:Cher thread that remains:

Cher 62!!!!

I can't believe it! She's 62 years old!!! She looks ----- 25, 30? How come the average bus-pass OAP dosnt look like her? I wonder how many face lifts shes had. 78.146.21.74 (talk) 20:32, 21 September 2008 (UTC) Thanks for that. Please note this page is for discussing improvements of the article, not for discussing Cher's amazing ability to remain young in appearance. Wildhartlivie (talk) 00:59, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Here's one relevant thread your bot removed:

How it could be 12.5m Sales in USA???

How could it be that she sold so little so i did a little Search the RIAA Are wrong Because : 4m(Believe album+ 2m(Believe Single)+ 3m Heart of stone+ 2m(The Very Best of Cher)+ 1m(cher the album)+ 0.5(Living proof)+0.5(Love Hurts)+0.5(Take Me home) + 0.5(The Sonny Side of Cher)+1m(If I Could Turn Back Time)+0.5(Dark Lady Album)+0.5(Dark Lady Single)+3m(Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down))+ 0.5(If I Could Turn Back Time: Cher's Greatest Hits)+0.5(Half-Breed Single)+ 0.5(The Way of Love)+0.5(Take Me Home)=21m Sales in USA so how did they get to 12.5 and is There A Chance they will Correct The Error??(Soory For My Bud English) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.126.236.41 (talk) 05:08, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

12.5 million is for minimum album sales

The 12.5 m sales that RIAA stated is for SOLO MINIMUM ALBUM sales in the U.S. so it does NOT include singles. It is based on the certifications of Cher albums (4x plat, 3x plat, 2x plat, plat n 5 gold) this does not include the other cher albums which all sold less than 500,000 in U.S. THEREFORE, Cher sold AT LEAST 12.5m albums in the U.S. alone Sonnyandcherfan (talk) 15:07, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I guarantee you that someone will again take issue with sales claims made, or the way in which they are worded and the inferences drawn, because this thread and others like it (some more in-depth) have been removed. There are talk pages which are longer than their articles, but the Cher talk page was already briefer than it should be, given the constructive discussion which now no longer appears there, despite the fact that these edits continue. I'm sure similar situations are occurring at other talk pages. Respectfully awaiting a response, Abrazame (talk) 01:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give you the shortest possible answer (without even reading the tl;dr examples): I don't care. My bot comes with a disclaimer that people install and configure it on their own (by placing the appropriate template on the page). They are also expected to establish consensus on that. If they don't, it's outside the scope my interest. Thank you, Миша13 16:32, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

MiszaBot instructions

How does MiszaBot decide what is boiler plate on a talk page and should be left there no matter what? Even if it is something simple, like the first section header, could you please add an explanation to User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo?

While simple should work for my talk page, if you're looking for features to add, some way to explicitly mark parts of the page for exemption to archiving could be useful. Maybe even just the position of the archive request code as a divisor.

Thanks, --J Clear (talk) 14:07, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The template itself must be located before the first heading. All threads after that are considered for archiving. Sections without timestamps are ignored (same effect would be if you added a timestamp from a distant future (even one hidden in HTML comments)). You could also place the entire boilerplate text on a subpage and transclude it for improved readability (the bot's template must stay on the main page, though). bot glitch

Hi, to whomever runs this bot, it accidentally archived some recent posts in the talk page for Ann Coulter in the first archive, with posts dating back to 2004. Can anyone fix this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zobango (talkcontribs) 12:05, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You'll have to talk to User:Kelly, who broke the configuration recently. Миша13 19:29, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pywiki patch

This has sat totally untouched since the beginning of this year, despite being an utterly trivial patch (although note the patch in the bug report is wrong). I was wondering if you could take a moment to review and implement this: I've been running it on my own copy of pywiki for months now, with absolutely no problems; I don't see how there can be any issues with it. The svn diff is this:

Block options

Hello Misza, recently your bot does block gwp socks with the emailban option disabled. I think you know that it is necessary to enable it, and wonder if there was a reason why it has been disabled. Could you please re-enable it, or otherwise I'm interested to know what the reason for disabling it was. Happy editing. --Oxymoron83 07:03, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's a subtle quirk of the algorithm. These socks triggered two regular expressions with each move, one qualifying for an email ban and one not, and the latter happened to be the first on the list, which is why the ban was not set up. Миша13 16:43, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving undated posts

Does User:MiszaBot III archive sections without a timestamp? If not is using Template:unsigned etc. the best way to get them archived? -- Mentifisto 07:23, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, it doesn't. Yes, it is. Миша13 16:44, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I set up this page for auto archiving about a week or so ago, but it has yet to be picked up by the bot. Have I done something wrong? PC78 (talk) 17:15, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks! That's what I get for copying the templates from another page. :) PC78 (talk) 17:56, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bug in MiszaBotIII

MiszaBotIII seems to have missed a few threads on User talk:Davidwr. I have it set for 45 days. It's most recent archives picked up threads as late as January 6, but it missed a few threads dated earlier. Before I manually archive them I wanted to give you a chance to look at it and possibly tweak the bot. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 14:29, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not really. All those threads from the top have invalid timestamps: missing timezone specification or invalid hour such as "24:53" or "09:09PM". The first thread with a valid stamp is "The Buddha and His Dhamma", which is from 13th January, which is less than 45 days ago. If you want those threads archive, you must do so manually. Миша13 14:54, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving to /dev/null?

Was this correct? --NE2 16:32, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've been quite specific on several occasions that people should not "compact" the configuration template into one line (such are the results). If they won't listen, I don't care. Миша13 17:17, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Signpost — February 23, 2009

This week, the Wikipedia Signpost published volume 5, issue 8, which includes these articles:

The kinks are still being worked out in a new design for these Signpost deliveries, and we apologize for the plain format for this week.

Delivered by §hepBot (Disable) at 16:40, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help me with the "statusChanger". For me it doesn't work (nothing works for me! :( ), so if it's possible could you do it for me or something (likely it will work for you!). Here are the links:

I have inserted a hidden commment in the User:Bo98 page that you can delete and replace with the thing you have to put there.

If you can't I'll.... well I'll see! lol :).

Bo98 (talk) 16:50, 24 February 2009 (UTC) [reply]

Fixed. If the in/busy/out buttons do not appear immediately, read WP:CACHE. All you need to do is put {{User:Bo98/Status}} wherever you want the status displayed (eg. your userpage) and start using it. Миша13 20:23, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the fixup
