Garvit Chouhan

Sir, Nisha Chouhan just made a new account and you can clearly see it in the new Sarileru Neekevaru edit that she did. GODUBNATION (talk) 15:18, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

@GODUBNATION: It would be helpful if you would please link to the article when you contact me. It creates extra steps for me to copy the text, paste it into a search window, then try to find the article by going through List of Telugu films and clicking the link there, because as it just so happens, you've also been spelling it incorrectly. It's Sarileru Neekevvaru. I'll look into this, thank you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:45, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Just for fun, I played around with trying to pattern-match names in the underlying database table to see if there was a practical way to find account names that end in "Chouhan". Not surprisingly, I didn't get anywhere. There's just a huge amount of data there, and the database table isn't indexed in a way that makes such a query efficient. Even just the most simple query, to count the number of rows in the table ran for 30 minutes and timed out. -- RoySmith (talk) 23:28, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

@RoySmith: Thanks for checking! It seems like there should be a way to do a wildcard search from Special:Contributions. I know you can do a wildcard after a name, like this. (Although I guess that's a stupid way to do it, because it's also searching for all those people's contributions). Oh well! Thanks for checking, though. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:34, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Method acting

Hello there, I'm Britton and I got your message about my adding stuff to the method acting, well I got most of the information from the method acting page on Wikipedia, shown here Method acting. Anyways, thank you for your message and please know that I had no intention to cause trouble or vandalize anything. User:Okiegolf55 (talk)

@Okiegolf55: Thanks for the explanation. Since they are amply sourced, I feel odd about asking you to remove them. So I won't bother. It would be ideal if, in the future, that content could exist in each article first. And I didn't think you were being disruptive. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:06, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
There are currently some poor sources in that section of the Method acting article. And regardless of the sourcing there, the sources (and accompanying text about them being method actors) need to be in the actor articles if the category is to be applied to them. Per WP:BLP, there is also the matter of whether these actors identify that way. I am reverting the category. And others have reverted as well. I was reverting the editor as a disruptive editor. But seeing the above explanation, I will now revert the rest manually.
Pinging Okiegolf55 so that Okiegolf55 sees this.
No need to ping me if replying to me in this section. I will check back. Flyer22 Frozen (talk) 00:46, 22 May 2020 (UTC)
I see that this one is sourced. But it's sourced to IMDb. So a poor source. If I overlook any that are reliably sourced, editors are obviously free to revert me. Flyer22 Frozen (talk) 00:54, 22 May 2020 (UTC) Updated post. Flyer22 Frozen (talk) 00:56, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Gouri G Kishan

There is a draft under this name. Wondering if you could help me make the drat into an article (because the article was previously deleted, which makes this difficult). --TamilMirchi

P.S.: I also have a draft under Kartikeya Gummakonda, which I looks like an article. (The issue with this draft is that it was initiated by a user under the same name). — Preceding unsigned comment added by TamilMirchi (talkcontribs) 18:30, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

@TamilMirchi: Please sign your talk page posts by typing four tildes like ~~~~. This will append your name and timestamp to the end. As for this article, the problem you're going to have is overcoming the concerns raised in the first deletion discussion, which took place less than 2 months ago. If the community didn't think she was notable then, and nobody's been working because of Covid-19, how could she possibly be more notable now than she was then? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:54, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: The article before the deletion discussion had almost no content (version of the article re-created on 14:48, March 15, 2020), but now the draft (Draft:Gouri G Kishan) is expanded and has references and lists her awards. The previous deletion discussion reulted in move to draft because the article had no content. Gouri has sufficeitn media coverage [1] and [2].

There should be a second deletion discussion regarding the new version of the article because the previous version consisted of a single line. Just wondering if you could give me tips so that the draft can become an article. She seems notable for her portrayal of the younger version of Jaanu in 96. -- TamilMirchi (talk) 19:58, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

@TamilMirchi: I'm not sure that most of the people who respond to AfDs are going to be terribly swayed by those two articles, as they look like standard press-release-style content, i.e. a chit-chat/interview promotion piece. Interviews, for instance, are typically disregarded as they constitute a primary source, meaning that they don't qualify under WP:GNG, which wants secondary sources, and secondary independent coverage. If you satisfy WP:NACTOR, then the article has a likelier chance of being kept, but you need to focus on demonstrating that the roles the subject played were significant, meaning that the subject was a major aspect of whatever story was going on. Bit parts, small roles are not swaying. And since most of the people who are going to be scrutinising the article in an AfD aren't going to have seen her work, it's up to you to make her importance clear.
Unrelated, I'm really confused why there is a draft article that you've been editing, along with this article that you've also been editing. If and when that draft article is ready, it's going to be difficult to move it and preserve the edit history. Further, you can't do copy/paste moves like this, because you aren't preserving the edit history. See WP:CWW to learn how to properly provide attribution. Also, I'm moving that live space article to draft space. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:20, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks man. TamilMirchi (talk) 00:47, 25 May 2020 (UTC)

@TamilMirchi: You should also keep your eye on this since it does pertain to this matter. Someone's going to have to fix this issue. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 00:54, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
@TamilMirchi: I've redirected Draft:Gouri G Kishan to Draft:Gouri G. Kishan, because the second one, with its proper indication of "G." vs the incorrect "G", is the more plausible of the two article titles. I'm actually not really clear on why you kept editing that article. Whatever edits you've made at the "G" article you'll need to make again. Don't copy and paste, though, please. Suja Satish 77

New editor Suja Satish 77 has been splitting off a lot of non-notable soundtracks into separate articles. I thought the style looked familiar, and found Sanju Satish Raman and Sanuj Satish 2006 that were doing the same thing (and around the same Think Music India soundtracks). The similarities in the user names is unmistakable. Ravensfire (talk) 17:29, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

And does this warning look familiar? Ravensfire (talk) 17:47, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
@Ravensfire: I can't look at the moment, but if you can find a couple of more pieces of intriguing evidence, I can handle this a bit later. Don't mean to shift burden, just asking for an assist. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:01, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, No worries, understand. I'm in about the same boat, but I'll put something together in 5-6 hours or so. It's going to be behavior only, the last sock was a while ago. I *think* they've done some IP editing between November 2019 and now, but that's hard to confirm. I probably put the info in the SPI page and ping you. Ravensfire (talk) 18:04, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Okay, so some digging on this. First, the user name is pretty similar - Satish is used in several of the prior accounts and Suja is closish to Sanju (swap vowels and drop a litter). The edits by the new account are focused a lot on splitting off soundtracks for films into separate articles. Just like the prior accounts, it's done by copy-paste without the required attribution - see warnings on User talk:Satish Raman Nair. The same issues are on Suja account. The big smoking gun are Bigil (soundtrack) and Mersal (soundtrack), both of which originally were created by Sanju the King, deleted and then recreated a few days ago by Suja. Both the new account and a prior sock tried to use requested moves to get a draft moved into article space faster - [3] and [4]. It's the same patten - copy paste splits of mostly non-notable albums. Ravensfire (talk) 13:49, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
I went ahead and filed the SPI - WP:Sockpuppet investigations/Satish Raman Nair. Ravensfire (talk) 13:56, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

List of Telugu Films 2018, 2019, and 2020

Is there anyway we can get a page protection on these 3 pages sine these pages have had recent accounts of vandalism in the Box office collection section. 2018 2019 2020. GODUBNATION (talk) 18:40, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

@GODUBNATION: In none of those three articles, do I see that anybody in the last month has indicated in an edit summary that they are reverting vandalism. Who's the vandal? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:08, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
The vandal is an IP address that keeps changing the collections of Mahesh Babu's movies and also I was the one who reverted the edits but I forgot to give an explanation. GODUBNATION (talk) 20:03, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Sar

So I ran into a "copyright infringement" on this brand new page Sarileru Neekevvaru (soundtrack). All I did was that I moved the soundtrack details from the film's wikipedia page to a new one and the link given to go against it is just a copy and paste of the film's page without the formatting and links to references. https://zokerukoku.localinfo.jp/posts/7773969/. What should I do now as I have contested against it. GODUBNATION (talk) 20:10, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps CommanderWaterford would be so kind as to comment on what content they found to be a copyvio? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:14, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
Also, GODUBNATION, you should see Copying Within Wikipedia. You shouldn't do copy/paste moves like that without providing proper attribution. Usually that's as simple as, in your pasted version, use an edit summary that says "Article content copied from <SOURCE ARTICLE> see that article's history for copyright attribution". If you look in the edit history, Crow did that for you. The other thing you can do if you forget, is to go to the soundtrack's talk page and use a copied template to indicate the source article, the version of the article that was copied etc. I would also probably suggest you not arbitrarily split off articles like this. There's really no reason for that soundtrack to have a stand-alone article, and there's likely nothing specifically notable about it, and it probably fails WP:NALBUM. And while I know you didn't intend to do this, sometimes editors with ill-intentions split off soundtrack articles as a form of promotion, creating needless article sprawl to make the soundtrack seem more notable than it is. Again, I know that this was not your aim, but I want you to be aware that it happens. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:25, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
The only reason why I actually split the article into a separate article is because I thought that the soundtrack portion of the page was long and that since this was the biggest movie in Telugu by collection wise in 2020 I thought that it needed a separate soundtrack page. GODUBNATION (talk) 20:31, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
@GODUBNATION: You should see Wikipedia:Splitting, which some users observe for guidance. The main article wasn't large enough to warrant a split just for sheer size, and the soundtrack itself is likely not notable on its own. So, you should expect some possible resistance. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:57, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi multiple accounts are trying to add same content again and again on this page. Looks like same person is operating multiple accounts. Sid95Q (talk) 00:05, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah

I wonder why you removed character table I cheated in TMKOC page. What's wrong with it? It's makes characters more understandable since several persons played single characters over the years. For example 3 actresses played Sonu's role so far but description in there with only one actress. In table you can merge description for all 3 actress and it looks better. There are so many pages which have cast list on table what's wrong with it? And along with cast why you removed narrator and some guest characters? Ratan375 (talk) 19:14, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

@Ratan375: See WP:TVCAST. MOS:TV in general is the set of guidelines that the Wikipedia community uses to shape its articles. Any deviation should be established through discussion. Indian entertainment articles in general are problematic because people rarely adhere to community guidelines. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:19, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

One more to look out for

Hello Cyphoidbomb,

I wanted to let you know that I have uncovered a previously unreported long-term sockpuppeteer who edits some of your areas of interest; I have prepared an information page at User:Passengerpigeon/Vietnamese TV Twiddler.

Thank you, Passengerpigeon (talk) 11:35, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

@Passengerpigeon: Hey mate, I mostly edit in Indian film/TV areas these days, but I suppose I may have run into him at Oggy and the Cockroaches. This user doesn't look especially familiar. I used to deal with a character I dubbed the "Vietnam Disney Vandal" but I'm not sure if they're still active; I haven't seen them in a few years. They would mostly add gibberish English over and over to various articles like here and here ("Mrs. Potts Tea", "Lumiere's Candlestick?). If you want more info about them, please see User:Cyphoidbomb/Vietnam Disney Vandal. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:10, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for that info; I should note, though that the list of affected pages is far from complete. Passengerpigeon (talk) 22:12, 31 May 2020 (UTC)

Draft: Major (2020 film)

Since you are an admin and an avid editor, can you help me improve Major (2020 film) so that we can get the page out of the Draft stages. GODUBNATION (talk) 20:02, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

@GODUBNATION: Since the declining user has stymied the release into article space on the basis that it presently fails WP:NFF, specifically the last paragraph, your challenge is to demonstrate that the production has received significant coverage (not passing mentions) in multiple secondary sources. Is anybody talking about the filming? What stage it's currently in? Where the filming is taking place? How Covid has affected it? You could always drop the user a note on their talk page and ask them what specific content would tip the scale, and how this film would differ from, say an American upcoming release. Ex: What makes Bob's Burgers: The Movie more notable than Major? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:36, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

A vandal is troubling me

Hi, sorry to bother you about this but a vandal named https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Skdklddhudke has gone too far in avenging the reverts. I have been constantly checking pages they're now vandalizing without any sources, and when I reverted it and called out the vandalism, the user didn't just re-revert my edits but also vandalized ny user page. I can't believe this happened and that someone like that is getting away easily. Instead, the user prefers to call me a vandal for reverting their edits and this is really disturbing. If you could, please look into this. The user seems to be targeting pages that we've dealt with in terms of vandalism even before and is making genre edits just out of nowhere. I know, I should go and warn them on my part too, but before I could, they already took it this far. Please, help. Harassment is not what I joined Wikipedia for. (77Survivor (talk) 11:03, 4 June 2020 (UTC))

@77Survivor: I've indeffed them. If possible, please try not to let these things weigh on you so much. Sometime people act poorly to get a reaction out of others. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:58, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: Thanks a lot. I will try to do what you said. It's just that it was all so unexpected and uncontrolled that I sort of freaked out. Nevertheless, thanks for acting on it. (77Survivor (talk) 16:36, 4 June 2020 (UTC))

@77Survivor: Some of their edits have been constructive, at least to some degree, so there is a chance they could be released back into the wild, but their attempts to disrupt were fairly ridiculous and it's hard to take them seriously when they're vandalising user pages and calling people names and such. critical reception

Hi. Long time no direct interaction. I hope you are doing well.
I recently created The Not Too Late Show with Elmo. I wanted to update the "critical reception" section with metacritic, rotten tomatoes, and IMDb. But I couldnt understand how to do it. Would you kindly do it? I will be very grand of you, and will be appreciated a lot. —usernamekiran (talk) 21:37, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

@Usernamekiran: It's not terribly complicated. Both sites seem to indicate positive reviews. You would indicate that Metacritic gave the series a 70/100 based on 8 reviews, and that Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 79% based on 14 reviews. It's up to you if you want to quote the critical consensus. Some film articles describe the methods that each site uses, like that Metacritic uses a weighted mean. See Something Borrowed (film). Note that we wouldn't use IMDb ratings, since we don't care what random internet users think. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Hi. Thanks a lot for not doing it, and let usernamekiran do it. That way, usernamekiran learned something new again. Would you please take a look if it has been done properly at The Not Too Late Show with Elmo#Reception? Also, while searching for review by rotten tomatoes, usernamekiran landed on detailed review page, hence the confusion arose. Thanks a lot for your help. Short answer: Stick to major mainstream publications that people have heard of. Times of India, Deccan Herald, Box Office India, The Hindu, Manorama Online, The Telegraph, etc. If it is a blog you've never heard of, or any other faceless site, don't use it. Query about BLP of TV personality

Hello, There is an article about a Telugu TV personality Sudigali Sudheer. I found that article has serious POV issues and tried to clean up the article. Issue is that most of content is derived from subject's own interviews, gossip websites etc. I tried to cut unnecessary info but wanted to know a few things. Is there any limit on how much detail we write about a person? How much can we derive from a single source? Is subject's interview a primary source or a secondary source? Tried looking up MOS:BLP but it didn't help much. So thought you could guide about this. Thanks--Ab207 (talk) 21:18, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

@Ab207: I appreciate that you're asking questions. An interview is a primary source, because the information is basically coming from the subject themself. This means we can't use it to establish a subject's notability, but that's a subject for a different discussion. You can take content from primary sources, but we shouldn't base the bulk of an article on that sort of content. We should also be very careful to be circumspect about potentially controversial subjects. For example, I wouldn't trust a director/producer/actor in the Indian film industry to tell me the truth about their film crossing the 100 crore mark. They have every incentive to inflate the content. I would typically trust an article subject to know what her birthdate is, where she was born, what caste (if any) she identifies with, etc. However, if there are conflicting reports about birthdates, I'd be more inclined in some cases to go with what the secondary sources say, because some people lie about their age. As it pertains to caste, we need the subject to self-identify, because some people, like Amitabh Bachchan don't subscribe to castes.
We should definitely avoid gossip sites, when possible. You should take a look at WP:ICTFSOURCES. If an interview comes from a gossip site, I tend to look the other way, because I doubt the gossip site is going to fake an entire interview. However some BLP purists might have a much different opinion and I'd just defer to them. You might decide that we don't need so many subsections in this person's article. I think sometimes marketing teams do that to make their subject look more important. I mean, a guy with (according to his filmography) bit parts from 2013 to 2019, playing roles like "Hari's friend" and "college student" probably doesn't warrant "Rise to Stardom and Prominence". I mean Madhuri Dixit has an extensive career spanning decades and only gets a neutrally-worded "Widespread success". Anyway, use your judgment.
As for whether or not there is a limit on how much detail to write about a person, you can start by considering whether the information is going to matter in 10 years. Indian articles attract lots of Controversy sections, and most of the content in them are poorly-written and don't have a lot of relevance that we would care about it in 10 years. There was one actress whose name escapes me, whose phone number was in a deceased actor's mobile phone. The police questioned the actress, but she had nothing to do with the death. So someone thought to include it as a "controversy", even though it wasn't a controversy, and even though nobody's going to care about it in 10 years. So just hit the main points, is what I'm trying to say. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask them. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:40, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for giving such a detailed insight! This would do for the most part. I'll try to improve the article based on the above and get back if there are any other issues.--Ab207 (talk) 05:11, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Cyphoidbomb. I noticed a non-free image a TV serial poster has been used in the article Sushant Singh Rajput. I'm not well-versed in copyright issues, but can it be used in articles other than that of the actual TV show? Thought you might know. Regards, GinaJay (talk) 16:56, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

@GinaJay: Good eye. A non-free image can be used to identify the article subject. So a screencap of a show title page can be used in the article about the series, under fair use. But once that image is used in another article it becomes a decoration. For more info, see WP:NFCC. I have removed the image. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:28, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Query about 3 revert rule

Hello, There is a user who is reverting the edit without consensus at ongoing talk page discussion, the behavior can be seen here. So far I have maintained restraint and warned user about 3RR, trying to explain the issue. Wanted to know if I'm within my right to restore the article or should I wait for a third party to intervene?--Ab207 (talk) 17:32, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

@Ab207: Thanks for asking. Wait for a consensus to develop. There is no harm (except to our personal pride sometimes) to allow an article to exist in a state that is unfavourable to us personally. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:47, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Karan Johar Page

Thanks for the message you left on my talk page. But well, it was discouraging. I didn't know where to respond. So typing out my reply here. Sorry, if this was not the right place to do so. I understand what you are saying, and agree. But the problem is, when practically the whole country is talking about it, even reliable sources, it must be included in Wikipedia. Rather than delete what I mentioned, perhaps you should try and fix it. I didn't say he is engaging in Nepotism. I merely said that whenever there is a discussion on nepotism, his name comes up. I am merely echoing what reliable sources are saying. If I try to balance things, I may end up quoting sources that aren't reliable. Is that ok? Well, I can include "When", "where" and "why" to that, if you are ok. Else, I can leave things here. I have nothing against Johar personally. Wistleblow (talk) 15:27, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Another challenge is, where to include the discussion on nepotism? Including another section would be considered giving undue weight. Wistleblow (talk) 15:39, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

@Wistleblow: I don't mean to discourage you, but we have to consider the big picture when including content like this and we need to answer basic questions. The essence of the content added sounded like we were pitying him for always being blamed, rather than getting into what the accusations are. I still think the article's talk page is the best place to discuss this. The key questions are: what is he specifically being accused of? Why do people accuse him of this? Is it even nepotism? What relatives of his has he hired? Or are we talking about a far more loosely construed nepotism, i.e. hiring one's friends? That wouldn't actually be nepotism, and it's what most of the entertainment industry does. Who has been impacted by this alleged nepotism? What's Johar's perspective on the situation? So whatever the approach is going to be, we have to be sure we're serving some encyclopedic purpose with some long-term academic value. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:31, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Shilpa Shirodkar

As per Wikipedia, Shilpa Shirodkar was born in 1969. As per Wikipedia, her sister Namrata Shirodkar was born in 1972. So how can Shilpa be the younger sister? Why do you need a verifiable source to understand that 1969 comes before 1972? Please don't re-edit pages edited by me.

Regards, Sanath — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sanathiyer95 (talkcontribs) 18:42, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

@Sanathiyer95: "Why do you need a verifiable source to understand that 1969 comes before 1972?" Shilpa Shirodkar's birth date has been reported inconsistently by different outlets. For instance this source says she was born in 1973. This is noted on that article's talk page. Which one is older than the other is not terribly important, so cutting that detail isn't any great loss to academia. Further, you should get up to speed on our reliable sourcing guidelines, because all content like this needs to be adequately sourced. "Please don't re-edit pages edited by me." All edits are subject to community scrutiny, and you don't get to deny the community the privilege of double-checking your work and making sure it is up to community standards. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:19, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

That was a really stupid explanation from you. If you doubt Shilpa's date of birth then why is it still mentioned on Wikipedia? You should have deleted it. Secondly, why are you deciding whether something is of academic interest to anybody or not? Thirdly, what makes you think that I am editing some information without having full knowledge about the same? Fourthly, I am not comfortable with you rediting the edits made by me. I am new to Wikipedia. So, please let me know if you have some authority above you whom I can escalate this matter to or should I simply assume that this Wikipedia is being run by a dictator who cannot be challenged?

Sanathiyer95 (talk) 19:35, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

@Sanathiyer95:, Cyphoidbomb is an editor and administrator with nearly 12 years of experience who is trying to explain our policies to you. Personal attacks are not acceptable and will not be tolerated.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 19:44, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

Isn't it rude of him to edit my edits without giving me a proper explanation? I don't care how many years of experience he has but 1969 certainly comes before 1972. I guess I am wasting my time with you guys as you won't admit your mistake.

Sanathiyer95 (talk) 19:53, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

@Sanathiyer95: "If you doubt Shilpa's date of birth then why is it still mentioned on Wikipedia? You should have deleted it." I did. Forty minutes after you made your edit. See this. Missed the stuff in the Personal life section, but Ponyo got that. Thanks Ponyo! Also, what you're not privy to, Sanathieyer, is that this has been an ongoing problem, where people keep changing elder and younger in each article, and I can't keep track, particularly when I'm not sure which of the sources are correct about Shirodkar's birth year. @INSTALKER: Infobox musical artist doesn't have a parameter for signature. GODUBNATION solved the problem in this edit by swapping the template to Infobox person, which does have a signature parameter. Another way to do it would have been to leave the infobox template alone and use the |module= parameter to embed a short version of Infobox person comprising just the |signature= parameter like:
|module =

Persistent Disruptive Editing

Sorry if this is the wrong place to bring this up, but I was hoping you could help me with a few IPs (seems to be the same person, though) who keeps making disruptive edits to various pages about Indonesian cuisine (primarily Bakwan and Bakpau). The IPs in question are [5], [6], [7], and [8], and have been making these edits since June 24th, despite me and another editor reverting them and providing warnings on the IP's talk page. Could you take a look and see what you can do? And, if this is the incorrect place to bring this up, could you direct me to the proper place? Thanks! Aguy777 (talk) 20:03, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

@Aguy777: Hey there, if you want to request page protection, you can do so at WP:RFPP. If you want to report people who are engaging in obvious vandalism, you can go to WP:AIV. These are the places where you are likely to get the quickest responses. However, I don't mind direct requests and I'm happy to help if I am around. I agree that the user is engaging in disruptive culture-warring, so I have semi-protected those articles for 2 weeks. Let me know if it flares up again, or if you see them elsewhere. It may be hard to rangeblock, but if the disruptions persist, I can look into it. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:26, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
@Aguy777: Hey, I have a strong suspicion that they are evading previous blocks as Muhammad Farrel D. I've filled out a sockpuppet report. What I would recommend to you, is that if you run into this person again, revert their edits and use in your edit summary "Block evasion: Muhammad Farrel D. WP:REVERTBAN". Then report the IP to WP:AIV and say the same thing, so that admins know what to do. (Try to include diffs if you can.) Note also that per WP:REVERTBAN, if you are reverting a "de-facto banned" user, you don't have to worry about the three-revert rule. Please drop me a reply and let me know that you saw this. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:23, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Thanks for the help! If I run into them again, I'll revert with the edit summary you provided and provide the IP to WP:AIV. Aguy777 (talk) 22:20, 28 June 2020 (UTC)

@Noobie anonymous: Can you show me diffs of the content you believe to be vandalism, and the sources you used to confirm that? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:07, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

1. The user added a false title of the movie in the infobox of Ravan Raaj: A True story to Ramayan Raj in this revision - [10] 963573261. 2. The user has added false informations like for instance Akshay Kumar had not acted in the movie Ravan Raaj as evident in his filmography at Bollywood Hungama source: [11], while the user added in this revision- [12] 3. Also, the user has added irrelevant informations like in this revision - [13] 4. The addition of a false cast in Kya Kehna by them - [14] being reverted by User:Shshshsh -[15] in revision 964904883

These are some of their unconstructive edits. Not only these, none of their edits are constructive, all being vandalised contents. Noobie anonymous (talk) 17:28, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Director column in filmographies

Hello! I have noticed that in these edits [16][17], Director column has been removed. However, I find this consistent with majority of other featured list filmographies where director column is included; Amitabh Bachchan filmography, Vidya Balan filmography, List of Emma Stone performances, List of Bradley Cooper performances, Vijay filmography and Trisha filmography to name a few.
Granted that its not indicated at WP:FILMOGRAPHY and may not be universal. But is there any strong reason that they be removed without discussion. If the column is already included and has been there consistent time, I believe there is no harm is in letting it be that way.--Ab207 (talk) 06:15, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

@Ab207: "Majority" only by a 3% margin. And when you consider that about 39 of those 109 Featured Lists are Indian subjects, and since the majority of GA/FA/FL articles about Indian subjects are built by a rather small nucleus of isolated editors, many of whom have no interaction with WikiProject Film, we're probably talking about the preferences of a few editors proliferating into a disproportionate number of Featured List Articles. I'd love to see the discussions about this that were had at WT:ICTF for instance, where these editors attempted to get the community's temperature on this inclusion, since I doubt that ever happened. And I'm sure it never happened at WikiProject Film. From my perspective, a filmography should list pertinent information about an actor, not the people who employed them. When they worked, what they worked on, and who they played seem to be the most important part of that. Note that virtually none of those filmographies include co-stars. Why not? Seems like if we're going to be cataloguing everybody the actor worked for, we should also include who they've worked with. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:24, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
I understand your point sir, but its the inconsistency which is problematic. Director column has become ubiquitous in Indian filmographies. If there was no discussion at ICTF despite numerous inflowing FLs, we can assume there's a silent consensus that its okay to include it -- Ab207 (talk) 20:47, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Yapperbot Pruner - trial invite

Hi Cyphoidbomb, hope you're well :)

A while back, we discussed at the Village Pump the idea of a bot that'd prune users from a list after a certain period of inactivity. My bot task to do that is currently undergoing a bot trial for its BRFA, so it's now in a sort of beta stage - I thought I'd invite you to give it a go on WP:WikiProject India/Members if you like

If you choose to enable it there, the bot will run once a week to prune members according to the configuration it is given. You can read more information about its configuration and setup here - it's very similar to an archiving bot.

Hope it's useful, let me know if you have any questions! Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 20:50, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

@Naypta: Ooh, this looks like fun! Man, you really put a lot of thought into it! Thanks for your efforts, I'll tell you how it goes. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:12, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
@Naypta: Okay, just set it up here. Can you please take a look and tell me if I did anything stupid? Also, when does it run? Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:29, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Awesome! Your setup is correct, and I've just locally tested over the file and it would do what it's meant to, by the looks of things. It'd normally run every Monday. However, funnily enough, because of the sheer number of users who would be expired off the list (337 inactive users; 13 indeffed users; 31 renamed users), running it in live mode over that page would immediately put it over the edit limit set at the BRFA of 100 edits, because of all 337 of the notifications to users!
Primefac, I wonder if I might be able to request an extension to the BRFA edit limit to run it over this page? If not, we'll have to take it off of here for now, until the BRFA is approved, or run the risk of some people being removed for inactivity and not receiving a notification from the bot (as it would cut out to prevent itself going over the BRFA limit). Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 21:35, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
@Naypta: Alternative: would it be better if I set the thresholds differently? Say, pruning people with 3 years of inactivity? Then changing that next week to 2, then to 1? There's no real hurry on my part. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:52, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
Go for it. I'll make a note at the BRFA. Primefac (talk) 22:02, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
@Primefac: Awesome, thanks! Running it now, Cyphoidbomb :) Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 22:11, 30 June 2020 (UTC)
@Naypta: Hey there, so I noticed that Satdeep Gill added himself to the list after the prune, and so with my curiosity piqued, I noticed that he was pruned, but edited as recently as 23 June 2020. That suggests that he was pruned by mistake. Any chance lots of people were pruned by accident? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:06, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: This looks like it's a manifestation of a problem with processing renamed users who have spaces in their names - see the old user account's redirect page (it was just a change in capitalisation in this case). I noted this issue in trial note 3 at the BRFA - the problem is now fixed. It only affected people who had a global rename, and who were on the list, and who were renamed to a name with a space in - which, given that the total number of renamed users who didn't have spaces in their names was only 31 of the list members, seems likely to be a very small number of users; I've only personally seen this case and one other - but nonetheless, it was a bug, so I made sure it got fixed as soon as I spotted it Naypta ☺ | ✉ talk page | 17:22, 1 July 2020 (UTC)
@Naypta: Well alrighty then! Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:23, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Could you please add this signature [File:Sushant Singh Rajput Signature.jpg] in Sushant Singh Rajput page, as it needs some extra authorisations (extended confirmed) currently. 😊 Jaswant Singh4 (talk) 21:16, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

@Jaswant Singh4: I was all ready to do this for you, but looking at the image, you've erroneously indicated that it is in the public domain, which is a dubious claim. If Shraddha Kapoor took the photo of her signed book, then she would be the copyright holder. So, I can't, in good-faith, add a potential copyright violation to that article. Copyright laws and Wikipedia policy is very complicated. I wouldn't dabble in image uploading if you're not ready to learn all about them. See also WP:NFCC. Hi recently a lot of IPS and new accounts are spamming pages with this website [24]. Please look into the matter. Warm Regards. Sid95Q (talk) 03:08, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Disruptive IP edits are back

Hello sir, This is to bring to your notice about persistent disruptive edits at Mahesh Babu filmography. An IP comes and does only one thing: add back the lede bloat (for the 4th time now). There is also frequent addition of yet-to-be-filmed Sarkaru Vaari Paata every now and then. Request you to protect the page appropriately. Regards -- Ab207 (talk) 12:22, 9 July 2020 (UTC)

Rvsran

Just in case there's any doubt, look at [25]. Who originally created that article, sock of Arnav19. Boom. Ravensfire (talk) 22:49, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

@Ravensfire: There is a little doubt. On the one hand, he and a few others seem to be cranking out Tamil TV articles all that use basically the same template that Arnav19 used. However Arnav19 himself wasn't even consistent about stuff, so that makes it difficult.
 • In many articles, Arnav would misuse the |location= parameter and propagate it with Tamil Nadu, which I see here from Rvsran. But what if Rvsran was just copying other articles?
 • Here Rvsran uses arrows to indicate that an actor replaced another actor. That spread to tons of articles.
 • I notice the use of an arrow by sock operator Swakutty here.
 • Also looking at their editing "time cards", Rvsran and Swakutty both edited at about the same time, where Arnav19 was editing hours later.
I often saw Swiss IPs editing around Arnav, which led me to think that s/he was in Switzerland, but who knows. So, I'm not 100% convinced this new account is Arnav, but they appear to be up to some coordinated effort to explode Tamil Nadu TV articles at Wikipedia. One common theme, is that none of them really spend any significant time maintaining the articles. They swing by, dump it, and move to a new one. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:58, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
Hmm, I just noticed that this version of the Thirumanam article uses a vikatan.com reference with an accessdate of 09-29-2018. Here's the reference I see in the original Sham65 version of that article:

Here's what I see in this version of the new article, as created by Rvsran:

They're both formatted very much alike, except for the URLs being inconsistent and the article titles. I'm not sure what that means. Assuming the best of good-faith, could they have copied the references from, say, the Tamil version of the article, which may have survived? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:20, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, Or copied it from Simple english Wikipedia. Ravensfire (talk) 04:09, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
@Ravensfire: Lol. Do a geolocation on this IP if you get a sec. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:41, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, Do you see any block evasion? I don't see anything! Nope! Now, could someone please take these blinders off me ... Ravensfire (talk) 21:59, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
@Ravensfire: Think you can figure out a range that would be worth blocking? I'm not very good at the calculation aspect of it. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:59, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, see if this works - Special:Contributions/2a02:120b:2c36:d230::/64. If you haven't used it before, the blockcalc template is a great way to figure out ranges.

Enjoy! Ravensfire (talk) 18:07, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
@Ravensfire: Thanks! I usually just block the /64 anyway per WP:/64, so I did think of that. When I ran the handful of IPs through NativeForeigner's tool, I got a range that had like a trillion IPs in it. Not much of an exaggeration, it was huge. So I though maybe there was an in-between. Thanks for helping, as usual. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:33, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, Yeah, I was seeing that as well when I put in a couple of different addresses. The first two sets on the IP were the same, but then it changed, and when I put that in it was saying the needed range was a /32 which is MASSIVE. Not fun. It could be they've got a couple of different devices or networks they use or the ISP is just using IPv6 wrong - the same device should be on the same /64. Makes vandal tracking harder when they don't follow that. Ravensfire (talk) 20:41, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

@Ravensfire: I sometimes lose track of information, even when I'm sure I remember things. Here is a Swiss IP admitting to being Arnav19/Thilakshan. That doesn't mean they can't find ways of spreading their poison around, but I just wanted to share that at least in one incarnation, they were editing from Swiss IPs. Similarities in 2 new users

Editor Arjann

The editor Arjann keeps reverting my edits on these two occasions [27] and [28]. On the Dil Bechara Soundtrack I gave an explanation as why I was changing the resolution from 250x250 to 316x316 and I explained to him that 316x316 was a more clear version of the album art that also complies with Wikipedia Standards as I have created 2 soundtrack pages myself and the album covers for both of them the BOTs themselves reduced it from 500x500 to 316x316. Coming to the second one I said that I was simply trimming down the description for the music section as I felt that it was too much for just one single. I also changed the Infobox to Infobox Album and I added a tracklisting so that upcoming songs could be added and that majority of the Indian film pages without a seperate soundtrack page have these Infoboxes but the user had also reverted that stating no reason as to why. SP013 (talk) 16:20, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Dear SP013 you should please understand that to satisfy non-free use criteria, the total number of pixels in the uploaded image for any non-free image (i.e. the width in px × the height in px) should not exceed 100,000 – square images should therefore not exceed 316px. Also, refer WP:IMAGERES which clearly mention there is no hard-fix rule that it should be 316 px and so on. Why are forcing the bot to run when you know the rules.Arjann (talk) 16:29, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Arjann I have used the [29] which was on Wikipedia:IMAGERES that helps the user resize the image. Now coming to the point, the original album cover art comes in at around 500x500 on Google Images and on the tool page it says the 100000 pixels are the right amount for a non-free image on Wikipedia and entering in the 500x500 it resizes down to 316x316. Also why did you revert the image if I am trying to just improve the image for the reader as the lyrics writer is not readable on the image. Please understand as I am not trying to start an Edit War. SP013 (talk) 16:35, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
SP013 "I am trying to just improve the image for the reader as the lyrics writer is not readable on the image." Images are not meant for that. The information on the album art is already present in the page. What clarity are we seeking here? Read again: The image will display in the infobox in its real size, capped by the value of the user's "Thumbnail size" parameter in their appearance preferences, or the default (currently 220px) for non logged-in readers or users who have not set a different preference.
Arjann I am not trying to start an edit war but why are you trying to mock me as I was just trying to improve a situation. Also I am trying to resolve a situation but you are not complying either and you went and directly reported me for a "3RR" which I have not done but it was 2 reverts and also you should check as you have also reverted my image twice. SP013 (talk) 16:47, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
SP013 You are unwilling to co-operate although I am trying to explain you. Hence, I need mediation. You have also deleted sourced content on Cobra (2020 film) page You should please read WP:WWIN.
Arjann I am trying to cooperate with you but all you do is revert my edits and you have also violated the 3RR on the Cobra page as you have had 3 reverts well within 24 hours. SP013 (talk) 17:06, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
SP013 Sorry to say - you have deleted sourced and valid content. Secondly, you are of complaining nature. You are posting on Cyphoidbomb's page? For what? You could have started discussion directly with me. This talk a lot. Arjann (talk) 17:09, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Arjann Sorry brother but I needed a mediator for this conversation but if you want we can continue on your talk page. SP013 (talk) 17:11, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, I came across this discussion late. Does anybody need my input? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:26, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Yes sir with your input I think we can end the discussion and cooperate with each other on what should be done on both these pages as you are an expert in Indian film pages. SP013 (talk) 15:41, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Please unlock this page for editing for all so that the people can update and correct the content from time to time.FlyIndian14 (talk) 02:51, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

@FlyIndian14: Dear brand-new editor, no, I won't, since most of the changes that occur are of poor quality, like this edit, where someone tries to delete clear content about Ashi Singh replacing Kaur, or this change where clear prose about Singh replacing Kaur was deleted in favour of ambiguous slashes that could be interpreted several different ways. Or here where Ashi Singh is again removed or here after that when it turned into the idiotic slashes again. Who has time to deal with this crap? Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:22, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Oh, and whatever you want to change there, you can post an edit request on the talk page. Bring quality references. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 03:23, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: Why you are talking so rude and mocking me if I am a new editor. You are so much arrogant about you being an old editor. You are lashing out like I have done all the poor editing. I just wanted to shorten the plot length and add some references to make it look good. If you still don't want to unlock, it's your choice.FlyIndian14 (talk) 12:27, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
@FlyIndian14: Fair point and I apologise. I have been dealing with a lot of problems that keep being reintroduced in hundreds of Indian articles, including the one mentioned above. When you become auto-confirmed, which will take a few days, and which will require you to make improvements to other articles, you will be able to edit the article. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:43, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Whilst I applaud your good work on the Digangana Suryavanshi article (I have no problem with the edits and you are doing great work) could you consider toning down the edit summaries? I personally find the promotional POV-pushing to be irritating, but it’s probable best not to say it out loud :-) - Chris.sherlock (talk) 22:41, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

@Chris.sherlock: For you, because you asked so nicely? Absolutely. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:45, 17 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks mate. Keep up the great work! :-) - Chris.sherlock (talk) 22:58, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

There is a paragraph on this page under the sub-heading "1973-1983 - New Vrindaban and Sannyasa" that's poorly sourced contentious material. But it seems to have gotten there following a discussion on the talk page. So perhaps I shouldn't straightaway delete it. I have added my inputs to the discussion on the talk page under the already-existing sub-heading "Removal should be justified". Can you please look into this matter please? Wistleblow (talk) 12:23, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

@Wistleblow: I think you did the right thing by opening a discussion. Those editors don't look very active, so you might consider dropping talkback templates on their talk pages in case it might inspire a response. You're not required to do that, though. AutoWiki Browser

Do you use this often? I need this to replace all instances of English: (translation) with transl. (translation). Turns out you couldn't revert all of Bhargav's IP edits such as this. I do use this browser, but I'm only able to replace links using it. --Kailash29792 (talk) 11:48, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

@Kailash29792: I don't use it as often as I should, but it's an amazing tool. The two things you'd want to do is create a list of articles based on Bhargav's contribution history (and maybe his socks), which you can do in the AWB tool, and then apply a regular expression ("regex") find/replace. I'm no good with regex, but the kind folks at WT:AWB are usually helpful at writing them for me. Alternatively, if this sounds like it's beyond your interest, I could do it. I still have some cleanup to do in Tamil TV articles, but after that I could work on it. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:10, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
I'm asking the community for help with an appropriate regex. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:03, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Chithi is a 1999 series of Sun TV. After many years, in January 2020 a reboot version was launched which is depicted by the montage of the series as Chithi 2. While I named it Chithi (2020 TV series), being a reboot as per MOS:TV as in case like Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2001 TV series) and Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2018 TV series), User:Rvsran changed it to Chithi 2 recently. Can it be its acceptable title? With regards Noobie anonymous (talk) 12:21, 24 July 2020 (UTC)

@Noobie anonymous: Hey there, this isn't my area of expertise, but we typically only disambiguate in article titles if there is a reason to, and the community prefers the simplest disambiguation possible. So for example, at Chithi we see that there are potentially two series that could be confused for one another, so we probably couldn't just create an article on that 1999 series and call it "Chithi". For that reason, the simplest disambiguation we could use is Chithi (TV series), although I see you've changed it to Chithi (1999 TV series). I'm not sure that the latter is the preferred version. As for Chithi 2, do we think that there is any other project out there called "Chithi 2"? If not, then it should be fine as Chithi 2, because anybody searching for that would expect to find this reboot. If we knew that there were other projects similarly named, then we would might disambiguate as Chithi 2 (film) or Chithi 2 (TV series) or Chithi 2 (2020 Tamil TV series) vs. Chithi 2 (2020 Telugu TV series), etc. Hope that helps. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:43, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb: I understand your point. There is a Wikipedia article for a film Chithi due to which 1999 series was titled Chithi (TV series) to disambiguate them before. With a reboot in 2020, representing the former one as Chithi (TV series) and its reboot as Chithi 2 would be confusing right. So, I consider using 1999 TV series and 2020 (TV series in the title for distinguishing them properly as like in Sanjivani (2002 TV series) & its reboot Sanjivani (2019 TV series); Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2001 TV series) and its reboot Kasautii Zindagii Kay (2018 TV series). Noobie anonymous (talk) 09:54, 25 July 2020 (UTC)
@Noobie anonymous: I don't think there's a need to disambiguate Chithi 2, since there is nothing else titled that, and anyone searching for that would arrive at the correct article. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 19:13, 25 July 2020 (UTC)

Removal of BLP reference & Undisclosed Paid issues on page

Hey, hope you're doing well. Page issues for Prajakta Koli are fixed as much as possible with referencing and adding/segregating of sections. Would it be possible to have the BLP references and Wiki COI multiple issues removed from the page header? Will monitor for unverified and 'addy' changes going ahead. Thanks in advance.  yanka  AD  =Talk= 18:50, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

I'll take down the ref improvement template, but for the undisclosed paid editing template, I'd want a second opinion from someone like Bonadea. It is irritating to me that members of her management team were actively trying to manipulate the article, (maybe you don't know about that?), which is a serious ethical issue, and should be noted. I also am concerned that for a person who is known for YouTube frivolity, there is a very large section in the article that focusses on social initiatives she has been involved in, which could constitute undue weight, and which some might consider to be promotional. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 15:17, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks on the removal of the ref improvement template. Noticed lots of annoying unreferenced updates which seemed pretty promotional IMO - which is why I tried to restructure the article to seem more 'wiki-friendly' neutral and referenced everything as far as possible with credible news sources. (No clue about which wiki users constitute her management team). The page must remain protected for sure. As far as the social initiatives go, she focuses a lot on female issues in India and is recognized in Mumbai for those activities too. Is there any advice on how to balance them out? Let's see what the others think and see how it pans out. Thanks again.  yanka  AD  =Talk= 21:20, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
