Block on Mr nibble

Thanks for blocking this user for his outburst of personal attacks. I notice that four of his edits, with offensive edit summaries containing personal attacks, were reverted before the block and are thus preserved on the individual page histories. ([[1]] Is there a way you can get them removed? Thanks -- Karenjc 12:39, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

your messages

I have just received your message and I have to say the link that I have posted will help the readers to see the pictures of that certain topic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Imfsite (talkcontribs) 08:26, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

That may be true, but Wikipedia's stance on external links is that forum-type links are generally to be avoided. Also, your username suggests some sort of vested interest or affiliation with this website. If this is an area of interest for you, please stick around and contribute. We need all the help we can get. As for the links, it might be best to bring it up on a few of the articles' talk pages first, just so other editors can see you have good intentions. Welcome, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:44, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

New Project

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 04:33, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Not vandalism

Hey "dude," my edit wasn't vandalism. I removed source-less edits. Please refrain from sullying my discussion page with rash accusations of vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NewsEditor1000 (talkcontribs) 22:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

If you honestly don't see anything amiss with this version of the article, then I don't know what to tell you. --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:26, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

I see a version of an article with sources that you reverted to a version of an article largely made of what I can only assume is made-up information. Now, I'd appreciate a real explanation or else please clean your warnings off my discussion page. Hey Joseph McCarthy, you can't just accuse someone of vandlism because you disagree with his or her good-faith edits. --NewsEditor1000 (talk) 05:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Not sure how to handle...

05/21/08 While on Wikipedia today (American Idol site), I "paged back". The site was still there around the edges (logo, navigation, etc), but the page was blank. It was the message that bothered me. I looked for a place to report this, but I don't know where or how. I can't find anywhere on your site to report this, nor has it ever happened before. I was quite shocked. More so, I was alarmed that a young person might have seen this. I was online at work, which has a security/antivirus program.

Please advise if I am in the wrong place - and where to go if you can't help.

This is what was there: (The disturbing/vulgar messages.)

1) First one said:

i want to stick my finger in your vagina

2) Second one said: American Idol From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia • Ten things you may not know about images on Wikipedia •Jump to: navigation, search

This has never happened & I don't know how to report it. Can you help? DJjer (talk) 23:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)DJjer

Hey DJjer, welcome. That, unfortunately, was vandalism. It happens, especially on a high profile article like American Idol. It's usually fixed pretty quickly, but if you find some that hasn't been corrected yet, just click on the article's "history" tab and check the most recent edits. The last one is usually the culprit, but not always. If it's just one edit that's bad, just click on the "undo" button and that should undo the damage. You might also consider warning the person who made the edit. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:46, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Patrolling new pages

Hi there! Great to see a fellow new page patroller. You may want to patrol from the start of the list though, there's a HUGE backlog of pages that have never been patrolled, and are up to 30 days old, plus it's not always fair to assess articles within a few minutes of creation. Paulbrock (talk) 10:58, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Gah, no thanks. I usually stay away from Special:Newpages because it seems there's usually enough people on it already. I just wandered in there to mark a page I had dealt with as patrolled. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 11:09, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

User:TimothyBanks

This user constantly moves articles from their common names, particularly female soap opera character articles. Wikipedia has a Common name policy, as you may know, that instructs editors that articles should be titled by their most well-known names. Well, TimothyBanks totally disregards that, and has been warned and blocked for it more than once. It seemed that he had started to follow the policy, but now he's back at it (his destructive moving), and tries to use other incorrectly moved articles as his justification. Any assistance from you on this matter would be much appreciated. Flyer22 (talk) 05:14, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I left him a note. At a glance, it doesn't seem as if he means any harm, so I'm reluctant to be too harsh. Let me know if there are any more problems though, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 05:52, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I would agree about the "no harm" part...if he had not been warned about this several times before. There was even an instance where he moved a real person's article, Heather Mills to Heather, Lady McCartney (he actually did that move more than once, even after warned). But, anyway, thanks again. Hi Bongwarrior. Just a note to let you know, as you may have noticed, that I've indefinitely protected your userpage. Feel free to remove it any time, though if you want my advice you should probably leave it indefinitely. -- zzuuzz (talk) 11:42, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks zzuuzz, I probably will leave it up. For some reason, I had the notion that protecting my userpage automatically protected my talk page as well. Now that I see that's not the case, there's really no reason not to leave it protected. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 17:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Your username...

Is that really acceptable? Come on, young people read this site and shouldn't have to be exposed to drug minutea. 70.9.221.156 (talk) 18:58, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

I've never heard many complaints about it. Some people think that it is sort of an odd username, some think it is unbefitting an admin, but very few think I shouldn't be allowed to use it. --Bongwarrior (talk) 19:22, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

TimothyBanks Part 2

He's back at it yet again. As I stated before, he will not listen. Does not discuss his moves. Why? Because he knows that he is wrong and consensus would more than likely be against him anyway. And he tries to justify his moves by naming other wrongly moved articles. Rather than returning wrongly moved articles to their common names, he just makes more wrongly moved articles.

I honestly do not see a need for this editor on Wikipedia, and feel that he should be permanently banned. He has been repeatedly warned about the messes he creates with these moves, and he has repeatedly demonstrated that he does not care, and will do whatever he wants, regardless of Wikipedia policy. I am asking for serious action against this "editor"... If you temporarily ban him, he will just continue, like he always does. But I understand that you may want to give him another chance. I, however, feel that he ran out of chances long ago. Flyer22 (talk) 04:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Okay, he seems to be taking initiative in moving articles back to their common names. Hopefully, he keeps this up. Flyer22 (talk) 18:25, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Good news, glad to hear it. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:28, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

User:ELNUMERO1

I've come back to you about another problem -- User:ELNUMERO1. Just check his or her talk page...and you'll see what I mean. Months after those blocks...and that user is still up to the same thing. Clearly, he or she feels that if the person is biracial or even multiracial, African American, being a part of that equation, then that fact should not be mentioned at all in their article, no matter if it's well-sourced, and they should just be detailed as African American.

Oh, and this user doesn't respond to messages or blocks, but rather keeps on trying to do what he or she wants to do. Flyer22 (talk) 02:28, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

I see, that is sort of odd. I've just left a friendly message for now. I didn't revert any of his/her edits because I'd like to maintain as much impartiality as possible, but you might want to have a look at them the next time you're online. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:58, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

Hello yet again. I regretfully inform you that the bot we were using to update the user status at Wikipedia:Highly Active Users, SoxBot V, was blocked for its constant updating. With this bot out of operation, a patch is in the works. Until that patch is reviewed and accepted by the developers, some options have been presented to use as workarounds: 1) Qui monobook (not available in Internet Explorer); 2) User:Hersfold/StatusTemplate; 3) Manually updating User:StatusBot/Status/USERNAME; or 4) Not worry about it and wait for the patch to go through, which hopefully won't take long. If you have another method, you can use that, too. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Useight (talk) 17:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

We have consensus at Barack Obama

... for certain details regarding William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright and Tony Rezko. See Talk:Barack Obama. However, a small but extremely active and dedicated group of Obama fanboys are trying to WP:OWN and sanitize the article. Anyone who tries to support WP:NPOV and revert to the consensus version is threatened, called a sockpuppeteer, etc.

First, this has been an ugly situation for some time and more attention from admins is needed. Second, the Obama fanboys need to be brought under control. They do not own the article. WP:NPOV means proportionate representation of all significant POVs. The POV that is questioning Obama about his relationships with Wright, Rezko and Ayers is not a fringe POV. Editors who seek to include that POV in a balanced manner are not "Obama haters," and when they agree with one another, they are not sockpuppets. Please help. Why not?

I was always given to understand that American spelling was considered the 'correct' one to use. Why is it different for the article in question? It doesn't really matter to me: I see both spellings as 'correct', I'm just curious. HalfShadow 20:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi HalfShadow. It depends on the topic. American subjects will use American spelling, British subjects will use British spelling. If the subject doesn't have a strong connection to any one particular nation, then whatever variety the first contributor decides to use is the correct one. This is covered in greater detail at WP:ENGVAR. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 20:12, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, MPFA protection

I didn't lose the move protection[2]. The protection was actually in conflict with Luna's own protection. I just made the semi for an hour because this is a nonsensical 4chan attack, and I didn't want other editors to suffer for that. I think you should shorten the block from lasting the entire day, but I leave that to your discretion. Thanks for the lookout on the article. Keegantalk 06:51, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I see what you mean about the move expiring when the semi does. There has to be a way around that, doesn't there? Keegantalk 06:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)
Argh. You took my answer. But no (at least not to my knowledge) there's no way around this. It's best to just move the protection back down by hand when it's time. An hour is probably too optimistic though, in my opinion it should probably stay protected for two or three. We'll see. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:00, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I just created an article on a metal band called Saviours. If you have a moment, could you please take a look at it and contribute to it so that it doesn't get deleted and stuff? Thanks. ^_^ dposse (talk) 00:50, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dposse, I just made a few small edits. It looks like you're off to a pretty good start, and I don't think you need to worry about the article being deleted. At a glance, it looks like the article meets the WP:MUSIC criteria. If it's nominated for deletion in the future, let me know and I'll help in any way I can. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 01:37, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! You are amazing. I tried to meet WP:MUSIC criteria by adding infomation on their touring and reviews by critics. But, there's probably plenty of infomation that i'm missing. I added the article to the Expansion Request page and to WikiProject Metal "To Do" list. Hopefully, it'll get some help then. Don't be shy, Bongwarrior. Hi. It's possible that the version that you reverted was vandalism/nonsense, but at one point, I edited it into a legit stub. Please take a look at the history of the article. Thanks, --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 08:20, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

You are correct, please accept my apologies. I only saw the vandalized first and last versions of the article. I didn't notice you had cleaned it up in between those edits. Although I'm not inclined to trust articles created by vandals, the beach seems to exist, and that's good enough for me. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:31, 18 June 2008 (UTC)
No prob. I realized later that the creator had vandalism intentions and was making other vandalism articles and had probable reverted my edits, and that's why you had no reason to think that there was a legit version in the history. Not really, not for our purposes. While those are all nice achievements, they don't indicate any particular encyclopedic importance. Please see Wikipedia's notability guidelines to see what I'm talking about. If you'd like to write about yourself without it being deleted, try doing so on your userpage. Ban Me from Editing

Hey, Bongwarrior. Remember how you threatened me that if I ever vandalized a page on Wikipedia again, than you would ban me from editing? Well, isn't it kind of pointless to ban people from editing, considering that someone could just start over with a new account and vandalize another page?

Hey Dallas, I'm sorry I had to delete it, but articles must have some claim of encyclopedic importance, and everything must be verifiable. This band hasn't done anything that meets Wikipedia's notability requirements for bands yet, but if that changes in the future, you are welcome to resubmit the article. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:58, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Long, complicated request

OK. Basically, I thought that the image used on the Main Page to illustrate Today's Featured Article is of fairly low quality. So I cleaned it up and tried to upload a new version, not remembering that anything on the Main Page is cascade-protected.

So, what I am asking you to do is upload my new version for me. How to do that is fairly complicated:

  1. Can you either tell me what your email address is or send an email to j.delanoy [at] gmail [dot] com
  2. Once I know what your email address is, I will attach my cleaned-up version of the picture to an email and send it to you.
  3. Then can you use the standard "upload new version" thingy to overwrite the existing file?

If you don't want to go through all that hassle, I can ask another admin to do it. I just asked you because I saw you revert vandalism on Talk:Main Page, so I knew you were on right now.

Thanks for your time,

why did you undo my edit

why would you delete my edit (and for that matter one line of someone else's edit) from the page for Pizza Bagel.... the page was already a stub and you single handedly halved it. I consider my update relevant to the page and factually based (although I see the irony in claiming fact in an unofficial holdiay). At first I thought I just didn't properly save my entry but then I got an update from my 'watch' that you removed it. What's the deal?.... Who gives you the right to decide whats important to the world?

CupskiMC (talk) 08:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Importance isn't the key thing here, it's verifiability. The paltry google results for "Pizza Bagel Day" and "Andrew Shopsowitz" suggest that neither is worthy of inclusion. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:39, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't understand how you find it appropriate to talk about your illegal drug use on your user page. Also, how do you have the right to ban other people's usernames with a name like "BONGwarrior"?Me.gusta.destrozar (talk) 21:54, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I guess I understand your concerns, but it's all very tongue-in-cheek really. I don't encourage people to use marijuana, but there's nothing inherently evil about it. In my opinion, it's less harmful than alcohol. Regarding usernames, as an administrator, I have the technical ability to block usernames that are blatant violations of Wikipedia's username policy. Regarding my username in particular, the general consensus of the community is that my name isn't a huge concern, although some have raised some objections along the way. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 22:31, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

WP:HAU, Status, and you!

As you may know, the StatusBot responsible for maintaining the status of the Highly Active Users was taken offline. We now have a replacement in the Qui status system. This semi-automatic system will allow you to easily update your status page found at Special:Mypage/Status which the HAU page code is now designed to read from. If you are already using Qui (or a compatible) system - great! - no action is needed (other than remembering to update your status as necessary). If not, consider installing Qui. You can also manually update this status by changing the page text to online, offline, or busy. While it is not mandatory, the nature of HAU is that people are often seeking a quick answer from someone who is online and keeping our statuses up-to-date will assist with this. Note if you were previously using your /Status page as something other than a one-word status indicator, your HAU entry may have been set to "status=n" to correct display issues. Please clear this parameter if you change things to be "HAU compatible". Further questions can be raised at WT:HAU. This message was delivered by xenobot 22:50, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Nick Mason's Fictitious Sports

The heading over the personnel list on the album cover says "The Fictitious Sports" which compels me to think of them as a band. On the other hand, I don't know if the "associated acts" section of the infobox was intended to include other bands that have just one member in common. (The instructions aren't clear on its usage.) I added NMFS when I noticed someone else had added Zee. My first inclination was to revert, thinking that, for example, the Beatles article is unlikely to list Wings as an associated act. But first I checked, and what do you know, it does. So then I decided to add NMFS. Getting back to them, much of its line-up is members of Carla Bley's band, but it's not really that band under another name because Robert Wyatt provides the lead vocals, and of course there is Mason's presence. Wyatt and Mason have worked with Bley (and each other) before, but were not part of her band. NMFS feels like a group album, though admittedly a one-shot project, rather than anyone's solo album, Mason's or Bley's. Do with this what you wish. --A Knight Who Says Ni (talk) 02:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure "associated acts" only requires one common member. However, I still think it's a stretch to consider Fictitious Sports a band. It's almost universally regarded as just a Nick Mason solo album, with sort of a nod and a wink to the fact that it's mostly a Carla Bley album. I've noticed that some early album reviews do refer to them as "The Fictitious Sports", so the idea's not without merit, but I don't think there's enough evidence to consider them a band. Maybe the Nick Mason book has a more definitive stance on the matter; I haven't read it yet, unfortunately. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:50, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Attack

I've been going back and deleting the pages and restoring them without the vandalism/move edits. Is there a protocol for this? That is deleting any protection you're putting on...I'm just checking (I'm new with the mop). Thanks!  Frank  |  talk  01:57, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's deleting the protection, but it's not a huge deal. I'm not aware of any protocol that's set in stone, but I usually try to protect the ones that shouldn't legitimately need to be moved anywhere, although this doesn't exactly fall within the scope of WP:PROT. The only things I can think of that are definitely standard procedure are to delete any userpage he may have created, and delete and fully protect the user talk page. I don't usually bother deleting the edits like you are doing, but it's not a bad idea and I have seen others do so. One word of caution, things can get hairy if you attempt to delete and restore pages with a large number of revisions. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:07, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Apollo 11

I am going to be reverting your removal of the move protection lock from Apollo 11 the lock has nothing to do with any article dispute. It simply serves the purpose of letting users know that the page is move protected. It should also be noted the the tag presence or lack of presence does not change the actual protection level of the page. It only serves to indicate what the current protection level is. Dbiel (Talk) 02:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

It appears that your revert of my edit was partly correct. I used the wrong template. The correct template is {{pp-move-vandalism|small=yes}}. Thanks for your revert. It helped me discover that I was using the wrong template. Dbiel (Talk) 03:08, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I have to disagree with you regarding the larger issue of whether we even need the icon. There is no legitimate need for this page to be moved anywhere, ever. Most users would never notice that the page is move protected in the first place. It's only informative to the very small subset of users who planned on moving it to HAGGER?; to everyone else, it's just clutter. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
You are in an area that is over my head, but I see your point. What about changing the template edit to read <!-- {{pp-move-vandalism|small=yes}} --> which would leave the information on the page, but would remove the icon from the main view. Dbiel (Talk) 03:37, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
Well, then it's just a comment, so the template wouldn't actually do anything. We could do that, but I still don't think it would be very useful. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:46, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
The use is to simply maintain a record of the fact that the page is protected. Dbiel (Talk) 04:25, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

We can't really delete accounts, but you have a few options:
  1. Keep your current account. No one will hold this account's vandal edits against you if you make a few hundred constructive ones.
  2. Abandon this account and create a new one, if you'd rather have a fresh start.
Good luck. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:36, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

User talk:NawlinHickie

What was your reason for deleting User talk:NawlinHickie instead of posting a block notice and protecting the page? It makes it confusing to plain users to know what is going on. I have found and checked the List of Banned Users, and I am not on that. The posting of my user name in red, as below, though, is I understand a signal of the deleted user page.

Yours was the second in what appeared to be a pair of dramatic, for me, reactions to a contribution I made to the F-22 article. I've posted a full review and search for explanation at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:RaptorR3d, where I think the first action originated. (I've since removed that post; see below. Swliv (talk) 10:17, 28 July 2008 (UTC))

I am a relatively new and small-time contributor. I hope I'm pursuing this effort to resume full participation, if possible, in the appropriate manner. Any light you can shed would be appreciated. If I've misconstrued or misinterpreted anything in my effort to understand what's happened, I hope you'll forgive me and set me straight.

Thanks, and all best. Swliv (talk) 03:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Hey, some clarification seems to be in order. You aren't banned, or anything like that. As far as I know, you haven't done anything wrong. A known sockpuppeteer created your userpage, listing you as one of his sockpuppets, information that obviously can't be trusted. Since that was the only edit in your userpage's history, I deleted it instead of just reverting or blanking it, because I assumed you'd prefer it that way. The deletion rationale simply means it was created by a banned user, the sockpuppeteer, and is in no way a reflection on you or your edits. Also, this action was performed on your userpage, not your username. If you want to create a userpage for yourself, you are free to do so at any time, and it won't be deleted. Sorry for any confusion, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:57, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
Regarding your F-22 edit, I just wanted to point out two edits that you may have missed. After the one editor removed your edits, it looks like he realized that he forgot to use an edit summary, so he reverted himself, then removed the information again, this time with an edit summary explaining his reasoning. Apologies if you noticed this already, just thought I should mention it in case you didn't. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:12, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks much for the clarifications and guidance. First, it looks like the coincidence of two events was just that, a coincidence, so I'm going to approach the two separately when I next have the opportunity. I had in fact already removed my "Edit explanation" post on the other editor's page, on my way here, because I realized I was in over my head. And on the specifics of that F-22 edit, I do now see the course of the edits and the instated edit summary. I'll either address that with the editor, or on the discussion page for the article itself. For now, thanks again.Swliv (talk) 10:17, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Beck (American Musician)

Please go read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Beck#Why_should_we_NOT_move_this_article.3F and give me good arguments, why the American Musician Beck would need not to be moved to "Beck (American Musician). I think in this case we need WP: Third Opinion from a higher admin. I understand that you are a fan of musician Beck, but I am a fan of anime "Beck", but I don't go take up all the article title to my liking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bladez (talkcontribs)

Replied there, take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 10:17, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

DRV

A DRV has been opened, related to an AFD you closed back in February. Please come help us sort it out. GRBerry 14:36, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

More specifically, the wording with which you closed it may be an issue, so your comment would be particularly welcome. -- Hoary (talk) 23:25, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Kivrod

I think Kivrod (talk · contribs) is evidently a vandalism only account and may merit a permenant block. See his talk page. --triwbe (talk) 08:08, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Probably, but I thought the warnings were excessively harsh in this instance, hence the lenient block duration. I would have held off blocking for a while, but it didn't look like he was going to stop on his own. Hopefully this will get his attention. If not, he can always be blocked longer. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:14, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Rock music WikiProject

I'd like to invite you to join the newly-formed Rock music WikiProject. There's alot of Rock-related articles on Wikipedia that could use a little attention, and I hope this project can help organize an effort to improve them. So please, take a look and if you like what you see, help us get this project off the ground and a few Rock music pages into the front ranks of Wikipedia articles. Thanks! --Be Black Hole Sun (talk) 18:55, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Editing

Dear Mr Bong Warrior,

Thank you for your comment. However, I am a teacher who is very concerned about the reliance of my pupils on Wikipedia of late. I was showing some of my summer school pupils just how easy it is for anyone to edit Wikipedia, and that this very fact means that they should not use Wikipedia as a sole source of information for their studies (as some of them had been doing), more as a starting point.

I was planning to remove the edit after I had used it in my lesson.

Thank you.

Hi - I just wondered if you were going to respond to this as my class and I are very interested in what you have to say on the topic. Many thanks. Polkadotmoog (talk) 09:52, 8 August 2008 (UTC)Polkadotmoog

Apologies, I didn't realize you were waiting for a response. What you said is exactly on the mark. For the most part Wikipedia is pretty reliable, but mistakes can occasionally slip through, so it's not really suitable as a primary source of information. But it's a good starting point as you said, and it's convenient and fairly comprehensive. Also, there's no advertising anywhere. That's a big reason why I'm a fan of Wikipedia. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 10:26, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

help deleting a page

Hey you're an admin and appear to be online, can you help me w/ something?--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 04:52, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Sure, what's up? --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:54, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
I'm trying to bury the hatchet with this IP I've been edit warring with. It's a stupid argument about how to move a page (cut and paste vs WP:SPLIT vs. regular page move). Anyway, if you could delete this page (which I've already tagged), that would make room for me to move the content currently located at Fraternity there--then we would both be happy. He would get the page renamed; I would see the revision history intact.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 04:57, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Consensus for the content of this future page (although disagreement over how it should be accomplished) can be found here.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 05:00, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Done, that was easy enough. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 05:04, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your help. I hope that ends my little dispute.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 05:09, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

Editing Wikipedia

Hello, Bongwarrior! I have just joined Wikipedia, and there are so many articles that I don't know which one to start editing. Could you recommend a page for my first edit? Gongwarrior (talk) 04:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

That's up to you, it depends on your interests. It's a lot easier to work on something that interests you than something that doesn't. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 06:57, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: block

There were two or three of them giving then who was phone a hard time, I got one, you got one, has anyone gotten the last one? TomStar81 (Talk) 10:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, Zzuuzz got two I think. --Bongwarrior (talk) 10:26, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
Ok, good. I'm still new enough to adminship that I can not quickly move on things, so I'm sorry for not spotting that sooner. All things considered though you two handled that well. Good job. TomStar81 (Talk) 10:31, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

Another sock of banned user User:TyrusThomas4lyf

Please block User:99.141.67.42. Thanks—Chris! ct 02:49, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, already blocked before I noticed this one, I think. --Bongwarrior (talk) 23:36, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Image

Hi, I want to know one thing. Can you please tell how many non-free fair use images are allowed in a single article. Is there any limit, or one article should contain only one non-free image? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 07:36, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Just off the top of my head, I don't think there is any sort of limit, as long as the images are being used properly and they each have a proper rationale for the article in question. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 07:41, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I have used Image:German anti-smoking ad.jpeg in the article Anti-tobacco movement in Nazi Germany. Do you think the fair use rationale is enough in this image or it should be expanded? I want to use another image Image:Tabak-Kapital.gif in the article, but I am bit confused if the image will be appropriate to use for copyright concern. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 07:48, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
I don't see a problem with using them both if you want. The rationales look fine to me. If you haven't seen it already, there's some information about Germany's public domain laws here if you can make sense of it (I think I gave myself a headache trying). I did notice that a few other propaganda posters from this era seem to be under copyright still, so these might be also, but it's close. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 08:13, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for whacking the vandal on my user page. :) De728631 (talk) 14:07, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Autumn Goodbye

Thanks for taking care of that. One loose end is the editor that uploaded the images. This is the second time I have caught him uploading hoax album covers for Ashley Tisdale albums: first one documented here, and now Image:AG.png and Image:AutumnGoodbye.png. What's the appropriate action?Kww (talk) 17:03, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey Kww, I've deleted the images and left them a warning about creating hoax articles. I think that should suffice for now. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 17:13, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

"Bongwarrior screwed up again" seems redundant...

Just saying. ^_^

ref desk

Hi, I responded to a post for this thread in Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities and edited the reference desk. But my edit contribution is showing I edited the page Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Humanities/2008 August 28, not Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. I never knew about this archive page. I have no idea why this happened. Will it create any problem? Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 02:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

You can edit the above mentioned thread to test, I believe your edit contribution will also show you edited Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Humanities/2008 August 28, not Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. This need to be fixed. Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 02:44, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it's a bug, I think it's intentional. Check out this edit by Scsbot. After a certain period of time, the bot converts that day's threads to a transclusion, similar to RfA or AfD. When you clicked on the "edit" link, it took you to Wikipedia:Reference desk/Archives/Humanities/2008 August 28, even though the link was on Wikipedia:Reference desk/Humanities. I don't think this should cause any problems; the header on the archive page says you can leave answers to any pre-existing questions, so it should be all right. I may have missed something, but that seems to explain it. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 02:58, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

James Hetfield

Greetings, Bong. I've noticed JH's page is getting hit quite a bit these days with petty/pathetic vandalism (invariably by IPs and rapidly-deleted accounts) - such current activity probably has much to do with Metallica's new album coming out now, I reckon. Anyway, this is a nod to say 'thanks' for your keeping watch. Me, I've decided to put up some of the unlocked Metallica-related pages to my Watch for the while as I can foresee more weekend beerhounds getting stuck in to add their bits. Shame they can't put their enthusiasm to better use here innit. Anyway, all the best, Plutonium27 (talk) 21:18, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the thanks, and thanks for keeping a lookout. More eyes is always a good thing. Take care. --Bongwarrior (talk) 03:25, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
