Hey[edit]

Rollback[edit]

Hey Tony Fox (arf!), I wanted to ask is it necessary to inform the editor with the uw-vandalism1 template every time an editor rollbacks their edits? Emir Shane (talk) 06:37, 9 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. Generally a warning is a good idea every time, in my opinion, but I think it depends on the situation sometimes. I had an IP editor who was dropping some WP:BLP issues into an article and when I notified them would just go back and do it again. The last time I reverted, I forgot the warning, and they never came back. It's important to provide a warning most of the time, though, so other editors can see if there's a vandalism or other problem involved and escalate where needed. Username[edit]

Hey! I noticed your username and I have to ask, did you mean to make it so similar to Toby Fox? I honestly got confused briefly because I didn't see anything on your userpage saying you were Toby Fox which made me a bit suspicious, only to realize your username is Tony Fox and not Toby Fox. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 22:31, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Blaze Wolf:Nope, not at all! I've had this nick online since ... well, a long time, including here since 2006. Hey, maybe he was inspired by me! ;) Tony Fox (arf!) 22:35, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. Thanks for clarifying. One letter really can make a difference. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 22:38, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No problem! Tony Fox (arf!) 22:40, 15 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome back[edit]

Hi Tony Fox, thanks for the civil note at WP:BN, certainly an example of the good attitude we hope editors that return after some time have! I've added rollback and pending changes reviewer flags to your account to help you with some of the work you've already starting doing. Take a moment to ensure you are up to speed on those expectations. If you don't want these, let me know and I'll reverse. If you think you need other account flags in the meantime, stop by WP:PERM. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 17:14, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Xaosflux: Oh thank you, that's great! I really appreciate it. I'll be sure to review those before I start hitting buttons. Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) 18:03, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony, just wanted to chime in and give you a welcome back! I remember you from back in the day, and I think I supported your RFA, which wasn't that long after my own. Many things have changed around here, but I think the old trifecta of WP:AGF/WP:DICK/WP:IAR is still at the heart of what it means to edit well. As someone who also returned after a dormant spell, I think it's best to see this time not only as a time to shake off the rust, but even reinvent yourself and delve into areas that you might not have experienced before. A few places I feel like were helpful for me to gain a sense of how things have shaken up in the community were Iridescent's talk page (some seriously fun and insightful banter here), WP:BLP (a good example of how the core has remained the same, but the details have changed), and WP:FRAM (probably the most impactful en.wiki incident of all time). Best of luck! bibliomaniac15 03:00, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bibliomaniac15: Hey! I recognize that username, great to hear from you. I'm definitely seeing some adjustments in the community and how things flow, but it does seem to be anchored in the same principles as always. That Fram thing, I actually caught some of while I was gone, I'm going to have to go through it more closely though - lots of people are pointing to it as an important moment. For now I'm going to be doing a lot of watching and small things as well as some content creation while I get reacquainted. Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) 05:46, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

RfA[edit]

Hi Tony. I saw your post at BN. I helped shepherd Jackmcbarn's RfA (including serving as a co-nom) and have done a lot of work on the topic, including facilitating a community review of RfA last year. I suspect that the community, despite Jack's re-disappearence, that it will be fairly open to a former admin at RfA. Please feel free to reach out to me if you would like me to do an assessment after you've been here a month or two. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 18:32, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Barkeep49: Thank you very much! I appreciate that. I will definitely touch base when I feel that I've reached a point when I'm ready to move forward. Tony Fox (arf!) 18:48, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome back! I recall you as an excellent (and relatively uncontroversial) admin, and we can always use more of those. Good luck with the process—I'd be happy to re-nominate you myself, but frankly my support is more likely to lose you !votes than it is to help. :P In any case, glad you're back. MastCell Talk 18:05, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MastCell: Thank you! It's really nice to know that I made a good impression last time around. "Uncontroversial" is kind of my brand, so I'll keep working towards avoiding it, or when necessary, sticking my nose in and mediating it away where I can. I appreciate the support! Disambiguation link notification for April 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Krista Kim, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lanvin. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:00, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony Fox -- It's my understanding that simple list entries aren't copyrightable, so I've declined this and revdeleted the infringing text. However it doesn't look all that notable to me -- I don't think dissertation awards are often notable -- so could potentially be redirected. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:03, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Espresso Addict: Thanks for the heads-up. With the entire article being a cut-and-paste from the originating website, I expected that it was a full-on copyvio. I will take another look and redirect it to the association page. Cheers. Tony Fox (arf!) 02:52, 15 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A Barnstar for you![edit]

The Cleanup Barnstar
You beat me to this! No fair! Just kidding, good work cleaning up stuff, whether it's vandalism or something else. LPS and MLP Fan (Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony Fan) 22:47, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@LPS and MLP Fan Why thank you! Been a while since I got one of these! And hey, it's a team effort. I see you all over RC tidying up, you do a great job as well. Tony Fox (arf!) 22:49, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed! Thanks for the compliment. LPS and MLP Fan (Littlest Pet Shop and My Little Pony Fan) 22:53, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Bragg[edit]

Just a heads up that when Billy Bragg's page was vandalised calling him cis, it's because he's a trans ally: https://twitter.com/billybragg/status/1537403855822012419 That vandalism counts as transphobia - not just normal vandalism - so I thought you should know that if you have to deal with his page being vandalised again. 92.10.13.209 (talk) 12:54, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Under WP:No Nazis, this vandalism would be indefinitely blocked on sight since it's discriminatory against trans people. I'm not trying to tell you how to do your job, I'm just saying to keep in mind that this wasn't an ordinary incident. 92.10.13.209 (talk) 12:56, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the heads-up. I can't currently do much more than report vandalism when it crops up, but if I see it on that page again I'll be sure to make that point when reporting. Tony Fox (arf!) 16:10, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yw, and tyvm! 92.10.13.209 (talk) 16:20, 17 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Simmtronics[edit]

There are tons of issues with the Simmtronics Infotech article as it stands right now. First of all, a ton of statements in the article concern an entirely different company. CessnaMan1989 (talk) 23:00, 8 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@CessnaMan1989 Looks like you have a reasonable start on cleaning it up - it still looks like an ad at this point and could use some editing there, so if you do that and make sure to get some good sources, it should be fine. Tony Fox (arf!) 17:06, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
