Though you have the page on your watchlist. Per curtesy, I'm just letting you know, I've added another option in the RFC you've started. GoodDay (talk) 21:51, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

@GoodDay: please self-rv. The discussions are obviously related, but the decision on keep/don't keep the masthead is parallel not aligned with whether the headline should be included and changing the query midway through the discussion confuses things too much. VQuakr (talk) 23:35, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Wouldn't it be better to deal with 'two items' rather then just one? I doubt anybody would support both the masthead 'and' the front page, being included in the article. GoodDay (talk) 04:31, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
@GoodDay: that does seem unlikely. Though there's plenty of "unlikely" (to be kind) behaviors being exhibited on that page, from all sides of the spectrum it seems. VQuakr (talk) 04:51, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
I've asked an administrator to review my addition of the NY Post front page option, to the RFC. Some editors agree with adding it, while other don't. GoodDay (talk) 04:54, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
I already !voted. I still think it would have been cleaner to just start a thread about the cover; if there was clear consensus to incorporate it and that obsoleted the RFC, no big deal. But every decision needn't be laden with drama, right? VQuakr (talk) 04:59, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Well, it appears ya'll are settling in to having 'two' options presented. Reckon (after a 'bumpy' start) the RFC will go smoothly, from here on forward. GoodDay (talk) 05:04, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Yup, nothing wrong with accepting 'good enough' from time to time. Thanks! VQuakr (talk) 05:08, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Editing news 2023 #1

Read this in another languageSubscription list for this newsletter

This newsletter includes two key updates about the Editing team's work:

  1. The Editing team will finish adding new features to the Talk pages project and deploy it.
  2. They are beginning a new project, Edit check.

Talk pages project

Screenshot showing the talk page design changes that are currently available as beta features at all Wikimedia wikis. These features include information about the number of people and comments within each discussion.
Some of the upcoming changes

The Editing team is nearly finished with this first phase of the Talk pages project. Nearly all new features are available now in the Beta Feature for Discussion tools.

It will show information about how active a discussion is, such as the date of the most recent comment. There will soon be a new "Add topic" button. You will be able to turn them off at Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-editing-discussion. Please tell them what you think.

Daily edit completion rate by test group: DiscussionTools (test group) and MobileFrontend overlay (control group)

An A/B test for Discussion tools on the mobile site has finished. Editors were more successful with Discussion tools. The Editing team is enabling these features for all editors on the mobile site.

New Project: Edit Check

The Editing team is beginning a project to help new editors of Wikipedia. It will help people identify some problems before they click "Publish changes". The first tool will encourage people to add references when they add new content. Please watch that page for more information. You can join a conference call on 3 March 2023 to learn more.

Disengage?

Hi VQuakr. For a little while now, you've been the only editor responding about Rittenhouse. I think if you disengage, we can let that discussion die a quiet death. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 19:53, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

@Firefangledfeathers: noted, thanks for the feedback. VQuakr (talk) 23:07, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Peace offer

Hey, I'm sorry we appear to have gotten off on the wrong foot. I genuinely feel like we've misunderstood each other. I certainly never meant to be anything but civil and contribute in good faith. Can we try and pull back from antagonizing each other? I certainly never meant to draw your ire and I'm finding this fight extremely unpleasant. Happy to withdraw my admin complaint if we can agree to assume good faith and stop fighting. Tambor de Tocino (talk) 08:39, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

That sounds agreeable. VQuakr (talk) 08:55, 27 April 2023 (UTC)
Given the back and forth, reciprocal strikes of stuff that might be over the top seems overly complex. Suggest we sleep on it and see if we can move on? VQuakr (talk) 08:59, 27 April 2023 (UTC)

Recent Edit on a BLP (where the edit goes to the main substance of entry)

Hopefully I have been able to initiate a 3O on your edit of the attached page earlier today. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Debito_Arudou&oldid=1153979278#Is_Mr._Beamer_a_US_citizen? It isn't clear how the primary source, which directly challenges the first paragraph of the BLP, is "libellous". I notice that you have previously gone in, along with specific other editors, and removed information about this BLP. You should at least be able to state what level of authentication is required to substantiate this fact and have it included in the entry. Blofit (talk) 00:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

@Blofit: this isn't a valid topic for WP:3O since there are more than two participants in the discussion. My advice is to edit an area unrelated to living persons for a while and forget all about this subject. But the answer to your question is at WP:BLPPRIMARY: a primary source will never be sufficient for the sort of musings you are making. Examples of generally reliable secondary sources can be found at WP:RSPSS (the green ones). VQuakr (talk) 00:18, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
It seems, right now, there are just two. Because the chain of edits has gone from one user suggesting Talk Page, and then two highly interested users on that Talk Page taking issue with the topic being raised. This is probably not sock puppeteering, but interested editors with their own off-site connection to the party, and an interest in not seeing changes or challenges. It is you though who shut the conversation there down.
Primary source that is a government record has been used for this BLP. When he gave up American citizenship, it was one of the few that made it into the congressional record. The reason for the entry and BLP is this is someone who supposedly gave up the citizenship for purposes of civil rights activism in Japan, but is in fact no longer in Japan and no longer a US renouncer. The BLP unique quality may actually need the inclusion of material later than 2013 so the entry does not read like marketing material to build notoriety.
There is too much last wordism surrounding any online discussion about this individual as a subject. People who see---really---nothing more than promoted a lawsuit and changes citizenship as the key fame points would wonder why it is so. 01:02, 10 May 2023 (UTC) Blofit (talk) 01:02, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Blofit, Throast, VQuakr, and Johnuniq is 4. Quit musing about other editors' motivations and exhibit an interest in some other topic. VQuakr (talk) 01:23, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Blofit, you're dangerously close to a WP:NOTHERE block. Stop this accusatory nonsense right now. Throast {{ping}} me! (talk | contribs) 10:45, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello VQuakr/Archives,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello VQuakr:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 2500 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:25, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

Thank you

Thank you for the "I think it would be worthwhile to add a subsection to the history section to discuss these early "pre-assault" automatic rifles" remark, it helped to reach a consensus on adding info on Fyodorov's Avtomat as "WWI design" that predates Sturmgewehr in terms of history of assault rifles. In fact, the remark was of great help to avoid a lengthy "6.5x50SR - is it a rifle round or intermediate round?" debate. 81.89.66.133 (talk) 09:20, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
