File permission problem with File:Bobby G performing live.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Bobby G performing live.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Redsky89 (talk) 19:02, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Problems with upload of File:Take One - Shaky.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Take One - Shaky.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.

Romeo and Juliet[edit]

What about the text at Angelo (song) that says "According to co-writer Hiller, the lyrics were based on "Romeo and Juliet - the great love story. The idea was to create a modern day Romeo and Juliet romance"?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:36, 21 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Except the song isn't actually about Romeo and Juliet. The link seems a bit tenuous for inclusion. Perhaps see what others think. I'd be happy to give in to consensus.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 09:17, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Julio Iglesias was goalkeeper with this team before he became a singer. Any info as to for how long or if they won any important matches with him? I presume he's the most famous former player but doesn't get a mention. Any thoughts?--Tuzapicabit (talk) 11:40, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's because there is little or no reliable infomation available. Most sources list him playing for Real Madrid Castilla in 1962 when Castila was founded ten years later! Plus Ultra was the reserve club at the time. I think he lat played for the Juvenil B team but he could have played for Plus Ultra's youth team, since Plus Ultra also had its own youth section (as did Castilla). Thanks! 'xxxx (year) in British music' articles[edit]

Hello Michael, I don't know how much you get involved with the above articles nowadays, but as you were heavily involved in creating the years covering the 1970s, I thought I should drop you a line. Basically I want to overhaul them and standardise them, in particular the year end charts which often have no citations (at best just a vague reference to Music Week or Record Mirror without any verifiable referencing) and the format changes from year to year - some are lists, others are tables; some are top 10, top 20, top 40, etc.

After spending a bit of time in the British Library I do now have proper citations for most of these charts, although as I am sure you are aware, the UK charts before 1983 (when Gallup took over from the BMRB and started automating the chart returns) are now considered very unreliable and have been sujected to some major revisions, so the published charts at the time can't be used: I'm working on sorting this out. In the meantime, I wondered if you had any opinion on the formatting? My view is that the cut-off point should be a top 40 or top 50 at most (some of the year end charts go up to a top 100 or even top 200, but this would make the list way too long, and in any case as I have already said, the earlier the chart, the more unreliable they are likely to be). I also prefer to use a simple list rather than a table – I can see that a table would be useful for more recent years where sales figures can be included, but as there were no official yearly sales figures published before 1994, I don't see what other useful information can be added to the title and artist, except maybe peak position, but this could be placed in brackets afterwards anyway. But I haven't got anything 'set in stone' yet – I wanted to get some opinions from people who have worked on the articles and try to come to some consensus as to how to present them. I would post on WikiProject boards to try and canvas opinion, but apart from Wikipedia:WikiProject Music I'm not sure there are any relevant projects that are still active these days.

I guess you have the same problems trying to get accurate information for the Irish charts pre-1990s as well! Richard3120 (talk) 14:22, 17 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, go ahead and make any changes you feel necessary. The year-end charts given are the official ones from the end of the years, but if you have better citations then certainly use them. Accurate info from the Irish charts is certainly available online, so I don't see a problem there. Thanks.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 11:07, 18 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply – my biggest issue at the moment is whether to include "sales figures" for earlier years... as far as I know, there were no published end of year sales figures before 1994, and the sales published at the time for 1994 to 1996 have since been discredited and revised, so are basically worthless. The figures currently quoted in the articles up to 1996 are usually "estimates" that have been taken from various charts message boards, calculated by enthusiasts from officially published yearly sales figures per artist (i.e. sales could be made up of one or more singles or albums, and estimating what percentage of sales were assigned to each record). As these are completely unofficial and unverifiable, I am thinking to remove them altogether or at least add a note that all figures are unofficial and estimated. In any case I don't think most people are interested in how many records the 37th best selling album of 1987 sold that year – it makes more sense to me to concentrate efforts into keeping List of best-selling singles in the United Kingdom up to date. Richard3120 (talk) 10:15, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No sales figures should be included from earlier years, they're clearly made up by chart fans. As far as I know no figures were released officially, so unless they were they have to go. Have you started on the year-end chart rewriting. I'll be interested to see this and where they come from. Good luck with your work anyway.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 10:24, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't started yet, partly because I wanted to canvas the opinions of the principal editors of the articles first, and also because I spent most of yesterday correcting the edits of Hadji87: I find his weekly chart commentaries a bit pointless but that's fine, he's entitled to write them... the problem is he insists that the chart date is the Sunday which it is announced on Radio 1's chart show, rather than the week ending date of the following Saturday which the OCC, British Hit Singles & Albums and The Virgin Book of British Hit Singles all use. This means that his chart "week number" is a week out from the official sources, so I had to correct them back to 2012 AND move the final week from each year into the first week of the following year's article in order to match them up, which was a real pain. :-/
The sources are the charts printed in Music Week in January every year, which are the ones supplied by the official chart compilers – I have spent some time in the British Library searching old copies of Music Week and noted down the issue in which they were published, back to the 1980s. The tricky ones are going to be the charts compiled by BMRB between 1970 (the first time they were based on sales, rather than a points system) and 1982 – these were full of errors and have been revised subsequently, so official sources at the time carry the now discredited versions of the charts, and I'm not sure where to get verifiable sources for the updated ones. Richard3120 (talk) 12:04, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. Yes, Music Week is the right source to go with, so it's good that you have them. What were the errors contained? Can you give me an example?--Tuzapicabit (talk) 08:02, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Basically, in the days before automated returns, BMRB relied on chart returns from record shops being sent back by post, which was a very unreliable method as the shops didn't always send their returns back on time. In addition, their sample size of shops was very small, so it was more prone to errors caused by abnormal returns from one shop – there were more instance of chart fixing at this time. Sharon Mawer carried out some research for the OCC in 2007 on album chart histories, year by year, and published updated year end top ten album lists on the OCC's website, so these would have been verifiable sources: for 1970–75 in particular these were substantially different from those published by BMRB at the time. However, in their infinite wisdom the OCC decided to delete the summaries from their site soon afterwards – they still exist on Sharon's personal web page, but of course, that's not a verifiable source under Wikipedia rules. I've written to her asking how she carried out her research and whether the figures exist elsewhere on an officially recognised website. I'm thinking about contacting the OCC as well and asking what they intend to do about providing accurate retrospective data.
The sales figures between 1994 and 1996 are also unreliable: this is when Millward Brown took over the job of compiling the chart. When Chart Information Network (now OCC) took over from them they found that Millward Brown had used too large a multiplier figure for the representative panel sales and therefore overestimated all sales, making their figures from this period redundant, and the figures had to be revised down retrospectively. The biggest loser was the biggest album of this period, (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, which had 750,000 sales knocked off its figures after originally being thought to have sold over three million copies – as you can see, a not insignificant amount.
Hence my reluctance to quote any supposed sales figures before 1997: they're just too unreliable. If Sharon is unable to provide any information regarding her figures, I will just have to use the published data of the time which appeared in the BPI annual Year Books (which I have also looked at in the British Library)... even though it might now be considered 'incorrect' it's the best official data available for now. But at least it will be a proper citation for the data. Cheers. Richard3120 (talk) 09:21, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Martika UK.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Martika UK.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:01, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The US release date is variously given as 5 January 1980 and 10 January 1980 - the Clash's site goes with 10 January. Please revert and quit edit warring. Radiopathy •talk• 00:37, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll give in to the sources, but the album is still a 70s album. It was released as a completed album in the 1970s (regardless of when it was released in the US). I still think it's significant that this was considered the best album of the 1980s given that no work was done on it in any part of the 1980s.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 08:26, 20 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ultimate Daryl Hall + John Oates[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give The Essential Daryl Hall & John Oates a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Ultimate Daryl Hall + John Oates. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Titles for The Royle Family episodes[edit]

I added titles for episodes of The Royle Family but I noticed you reverted my edit. I read through the article's talk page as you suggested. It seems the previous concerns with episode titles was where a source was not cited. I did indeed cite my source. What was your reason for reverting? Zippanova 21:36, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. TV.com is a user-run site, therefore not a reliable source. Since The Royle Family is a BBC series, the sources to go for would be the BBC official website which has episode lists for the series. No titles are listed here, merely episode 1, 2 etc. The episodes themselves as transmitted do not contain titles nor do the Video/DVD releases. These are all the official sources. Perhaps a script book may be available? I don't know where the episode titles originated but they may be made-up titles by someone at some point and have found their way on to various other sites.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 07:24, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of best-selling singles of the 1970s in the United Kingdom[edit]

Hi – I don't know if you still have the above page on your watchlist but you may want to read the reply I wrote to your three-year-old query on the talk page. Basically the list that is curently featured is not an official one, which means we either have the option of replacing it with the official one that is now considered error-ridden (I can get hold of this list with a citation, so it could be included with some notes regarding its accuracy), or we just delete the page altogether. I've let A Thousand Doors know as well so we can see if we can come to a consensus regarding the article's future. Richard3120 (talk) 10:16, 29 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:The New Seekers - Farewell Album.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:The New Seekers - Farewell Album.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:59, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
