Cuban Missile Crisis[edit]

By this edit http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cuban_Missile_Crisis&diff=next&oldid=194067363 you restored text which said: "If Kennedy could be forced to give up nuclear weapons in Turkey through actions in another part of the world, no European nation could consider itself safe from having their safety similarly bargained away."

I had removed the above text saying "Removing POV that is illogical hype. Missiles in Turkey were not defensive and not under Turkey's control. If anything, they made Turkey a target rather than safe." Note that the text is not sourced. 72.193.234.253 (talk) 16:16, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, Thanks for the barnstar, it is much appreciated! Tiddly-Tom 19:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For info, I've declined protection. Both users are now indefinitely blocked, with the underlying IPs blocked as well. I've got it watchlisted, but if it strikes up again then feel free to relist it. I'm sure you'll appreciate that blocking the users concerned is a more less unideal response than protecting it against all new or unregistered editors. Thanks. No problem, and thank you for the thanks. Shout if I can be of assistance. GBT/C 21:57, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gryphon79[edit]

It appears you are siding with him over his trolling of the ip page. Why haven't you seen the pattern between him and that 24 ip? Look in the edit history of my talk page, and compare to his. Gryphon and the 24 ip user are one and the same, and here for nothing more than disruption. Not one single legitimate edit on either account. I filed a report with the noticeboard and they claim they didnt have enough on the Gryphon account to warrant any action. Thank you 65.31.33.93 (talk) 15:15, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly, as you are doing at Rob Grill. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. — Athaenara 00:53, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your well-written support on my request for adminship, which passed 92/2/2. Why did my objection to Altaic's reversion "constitute vandalism"?[edit]

I am not logged in (i am at work) and when Altaic reverted my hour-long work on rewrting krump, i posted an objection to his/her page (as have many others, by the way, for he is a loose cannon reverter). Then i come to find that my objection has been delted from Altaic's page as "vandalism."

I have been editing at wikipedia for many years under my own name and unlogged in, and seriously dislike this sort of bot-driven counter-productive authoritarianism. At this point the krump page is a mess again, and i have half a mind to let it stay that way, because i earn my living as a writer and to see my volunteerr efforts trashed and labelled vandalism is disrespectful in the extreme. 64.142.90.34 (talk) 23:28, 31 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About Mu`awwidhatayn[edit]

Hello there,

The point about removing Removing long quotes from other people's work seems apt, however I feel the topic 'The Position of Ibn Masud concerning Al-Mu`awwidhatayn' could still have been part of the article. Moreover, the topics The Virtues of the Al-Mu`awwidhatayn and Relation between Surah Al-Fatihah and the Al Mu'awwidhatayn too do not violate any rules out here.

Do let me know if you think otherwise.

Search with Wikipedia[edit]

I am not sure to contact regarding this matter, but I saw that you are a pretty active wikipedian and so I thought I would ask. I am very tired of the crappy search engine that wikipedia uses. Is there not some way to mimic google's search where if you misspell something it asks you "Did you mean _____?" or displays close matches to what you are trying to say? If I am unsure how to spell something, it come back blank and then I search google, it finds what I mean, I click yes and then the wikipedia entry comes up on google. Is there anything that can be done? (this is not vandalism, it is an actual question and I am not sure where else to ask)

Thanks

~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.152.99.117 (talk) 15:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a comment, common misspellings are often redirected to the correct page. Perhaps you could begin creating these redirects if you feel your typo is common enough to be repeated in the future. xenocidic (talk) 15:27, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. I did not realize that search was different than go, but that fixes the problem. I guess go is like "i feel lucky" on google.

Please explain.[edit]

How is calling Roman Polanski a rapist vandalism? He raped a 13 year old girl, it has been well documented and he has also admitted to it. If you look up any person within Wikipedia that has commited major crimes such as rape, theft, and murder they are known by the titles rapist, thief, and murderer. He is just as much a rapist as he is anything else, like he is known as an Academy Award-winning Polish film director, writer, actor, and producer. The information is even on the rest of the page as well. This is not defamatory, it is fact. You can see this this in the reference section of the page at:

http://news.corporate.findlaw.com/hdocs/docs/polanski/capolansk31977iind.pdf

http://www.vachss.com/mission/roman_polanski.html

http://www.vachss.com/mission/roman_polanski.html

There are more sources listed at well on the page. If you think this is an inaccurate word to describe Roman Polanski then you should look up rape on Wikipedia. You can also look up Bruno Hauptmann as a similar case where a celebrity commited a crime and is well known for it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.252.70.10 (talk) 16:11, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While I believe using American English is standard on the PS3 page, just thought you should be aware that American-English is not the wikipedia standard. Multiple Sclerosis Treatments reversion[edit]

My removal of this table is because it contains unsupported assertions which are not generally accepted by neurologists. Two professional reviews have analysed the interferons and both concluded that it was unproven whether they affect disease progression. The table's author is replicating this work without allowing for control group selection, drop-out group constitution and other factors. It also counts as original research. The table is the reason for the NPOV dispute. See the talk page for more info. While the dispute is being resolved, it seems to me to be inappropriate to display the table, especially in view of the fact that it may influence people choice of whether to use these drugs (which have significant health & financial implications). Hey Thingg... I think you could do well with the mop... So whaddya think? Can I nominate you? xenocidic (talk) 18:49, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, but I think you'd do very well. I even saw an admin call you a "pretty prolific vandal fighter"... (or something). have never seen you edit warring, or engaging in fanboyism, you're amazing with wiki-code... what more can I say? Re: RfA[edit]

Hey Thingg, I was just perusing your special contributions, both in the main and project space. I have to say, excellent work. You seem to have a good grasp of WP:AIV, very prolific, and most of the reports were deserving and accurate. I also noticed some other nice wiki participation (dwarfed by your AIVs : ) ). I'd support you for the mop. Flat out. I highly doubt you'd be wasting the communities time. If you decide to run, I'd be one of the first to support. Cheers dude. Wisdom89 (T / C) 03:07, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Absolutely concur with Wisdom, whose own RFA I should be sorting out :). On a very brief review nothing jumped out that seems a problem, and you most certainly would not be wasting the communities time. I strongly respect you for even considering that line - it shows a level of humility, and a need rather than desire for the admin tools. Good luck. Pedro :  Chat  12:31, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bill

Hi, I reverted your deletion of the IP's comments at Talk:Emma Goldman. While the comments are probably without merit, and the IP has certainly vandalised the article page (some of which I myself reverted), I don't think there was anything about the talk page comments that makes them disallowable. I just wanted to let you know why I reverted your actions. Aleta Sing 18:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reversion speed[edit]

Hey, I notice you revert edits between 4 and 8 times per minute. That's way faster than I can do it. I can do about 3 per minute, completely manually, but the problem is finding edits to revert. I just hang around Special:logs, watching the newly-created accounts edit. If I see them vandalize, POV, or whatever, I revert. But this technique usually doesn't allow for a whole lot of reversion. I also use my watchlist. But, now I'm rambling on about nothing, what I really wanted to know was how you went about reverting vandalism and warning so quickly. I have over 10,000 edits, all completely manual, but maybe I could be a more effective editor if I knew a better technique. Thanks. Useight (talk) 19:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, Huggle looks complex. And Twinkle doesn't run in IE6. But maybe I'll give Huggle a try. I actually have to e-mail someone to request it? Useight (talk) 19:50, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm definitely not getting Firefox or IE7. They have tabbed browsing and prefer to open a new window via CTRL-N. When using tabs I always accidentally close them all at once when I just meant to close the one. Regardless, that's not the point. I created User:Useight/huggle.css and did send that e-mail. On WP:HUG it says, "At the login screen, enter your Wikipedia username and password. Under "Edit source", choose "IRC recent changes feed" if possible; if you only have web access, choose "Special:Recentchanges". The latter is slower, though on a fast connection there is not much difference." I cannot find this login place to save my life. Do I have to wait for the guy I e-mailed to do something? Guidance[edit]

Hello Thingg. A couple of days ago you reverted some text I editted on the Laura Roslin article and then reverted back saying that it was a mistake and that I had done nothing wrong. I was wondering if you would mind helping me out by reviewing some of the recent entries on the discussion page of that article. My edit was done to remove a distruptive editor's pov-pushing sections that were based on a combination of correct, skewed, and incorrect information with a huge amount of personal commentary. The editor even reveals his/her bias towards the character on his/her profile page by calling the character an "inhumane monster." I believed my deletion of the material was appropriate, but the other editor is calling me a vandal by username on the discussion page and, after I pointed out some of Wikipedia's guidelines, says that I'm hiding behind the guidelines. You have a good reputation for knowing the guidelines and being an avid vandalism patroler, so I was hoping you could stop by, review the situation, and maybe post something about what to do. If my edit was inappropriate, I want to know so I can correct it; otherwise, any help on dealing the situation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch. I have been encountering user:67.117.26.152 vandalizing new pages (Maoism and Lin Biao) since they were blocked they've been repeatedly warned in April. Please let me know how I can resolve these issues, and warn and help block vandals. Thank you, Peopleriseup (talk) 07:27, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. As you no doubt have noticed, a user by the name of Wageslave has recently been maliciously editing PlayStation, Nintendo, and Apple related articles on Wikipedia. I have almost had enough of this behaviour, and if it continues I will not hesitate to initiate an RFC about him. Here, I have compiled a short report on his POV edits since he joined. This report will be used as a basis for a future RFC, should he continue his behaviour - though I hope the very existence of this draft convinces him to stop. If you have anything to add to the draft, do not hesitate to add it. Thank you.

I noticed your warning on Fauxman's talk page last week (which he promptly undid, by the way). Some editors appear to have attempted to try to incorporate his edits into the article, but in general (with one or two very minor exceptions) they appear to me to just be subtle vandalism, which has continued despite several gentle warnings. I don't have the authority to deal with him, and last time I reverted his edits, he just un-reverted them anyway (same with yours as well as J.delanoy's). Based on his edit history, I'm fairly confident the user is not interested in making useful contributions. Can you help? --Fru1tbat (talk) 14:57, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Substantial edits at the Dorje Shugden article[edit]

Dear editor I like to draw your attention to that specific article, Dorje Shugden, which was substantially changed by a group of three new editors, without any discussion on the talk page. Rather one of the new editor revealed: "Many of these changes were discussed between at least three of the editors." which must have happened outside of WP, because there is no discussion on the talk page or their WP-accounts. One of the new editors claimed: "You seem to be the only person who accepted this article as it was. If you check you will see that the changes made make this article more neutral and unbiased then it was before previous edits." If I check I see the article omitted different POV's, deleted verified passages, included passages from anonymous websites and turned the article to a more bias Pro-Shugden POV. I'd like to ask you to check that and to give your opinion or to collaborate if there is a need for improving the article, so that we can have an unbiased, neutral, well-informed article which fairly presents all POV's. Thank you very much, --Kt66 (talk) 19:34, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thingg, since you have a little familiarity, could you look again at what User:Wisdomsword has done? 50/50. The user is trying to learn how wikipedia works, but by doing so, he blanks pages. It is vandalizing, but that is a hard question. I suggest leading him to the WP:SANDBOX or suggesting him making an account. But that's my opinion. Comments?--RyRy5 (talk) 00:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, they're allowed to remove the PROD even without improving the article - the PROD notice says "You may remove this message if you improve the article or otherwise object to its deletion for any reason." I think that's because PROD is only meant to be for totally uncontroversial deletions. If the PROD notice is taken off, the only place to go is AfD, which I have done here. You are confused[edit]

Your revert and comments demonstrate that you have failed to read the section you removed.

Here is a timeline of events, with quotes from the article:

  • 1) "In December 2007, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board..."
  • 2) "April 22, 2008 education board's Academic Excellence and Research Committee unanimously voted against allowing the ICR to issue science..."
  • 3) "On the following day the full Board unanimously voted against allowing the ICR to issue science degrees."

Thus, there are two different votes and the material is not, as you said, "stated twice."

Moreover, all mainstream science organizations are going to be "opposed to creationism." However, the opposition is not reason to leave out a WP:RS. Paper45tee (talk) 22:54, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, your edit summary is childish. If you aren't going to bother reading the article or understand's WP:NPOV's policy on pseudoscience/creationism, then at least don't leave immature comments devoid of policy in the summary. Paper45tee (talk) 23:01, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

anti-Americanism Revert[edit]

It's not helpful to merely contradict another editor. If you are going to assert that the material is properly sourced, you should make an effort to explain why you think that. This matter has been discussed extensively in Talk. Here is an example of what you just called "properly sourced" in the article. In fact, it does not have a single source, so what exactly are you talking about???

The Middle East region has been a focal point of much anti-American sentiment in the latter decades of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, often blamed on specific U.S. policies in the region, particularly its close relationship with Israel and its stance on such matters as Sudan's civil war and Darfur. However, some argue that the real roots lay in government policy as reflected in state-directed media. By this reasoning, America is blamed for failed systems in the Middle East, as a means of re-directing internal dissent outwards, towards what Osama Bin Ladin has called "the far enemy", America, instead of at indigenous regimes.
The term Great Satan, as well as the chant "Death to America" have been in continual use in Iran since at least the Iranian revolution in 1979. The Iranian capital Tehran has many examples of anti-American murals and posters sponsored by the state; the former U.S. Embassy in the city has been decorated with a number of such murals.

Life.temp (talk) 23:39, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Response fom my Talk page....
No, the examples you gave are not properly cited. The polls you mention do not describe themeslves as indicators of anti-American sentiments, and the respondents to those polls didn't describe ther responses as anti-Americanism. So, in fact, Wikipedia is the only place that calls those polls anti-Americanism. For us to call it that is original research. Maybe you could be bothered to spend 1 day on the Talk page discussing the many issues with this article before going around reverting things. Life.temp (talk) 00:06, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Unsourced: "While not to the extent of Europe there is a rising attitude of anti-Americanism in Australia.[citation needed] However, anti-American sentiments have been present in Australian culture since the settlement and incorporation of the Australian continent by the British Empire in 1788, in which a mixture of anti-Americanism and Anglophilia developed in Australia and shaped the nation's views towards the United States and Great Britain. In recent years, the close relations of George Bush and John Howard, as well as unconditioned support for the War on Terror, has led some to believe that Australia has become a "lap dog" to the U.S. The continued war in Iraq has also led to an increase of anti-Americanism. "
  • Unsourced: "The reaction to U.S. unilateralism has been nourished by a complex of fears, two in particular: the presumed economic and cultural Americanization of Europe and the Americanization of the European political process. The overwhelming global power acquired by the United States in the post-Cold War era and the unilateral exercise of that power, especially after 9/11 attacks September 11, 2001 fed the anti-American sentiment contributing to its most militant manifestation."
  • Unsourced: "European anti-Americanism well predates the invasion of Iraq and the Bush Administration, with criticisms of American "hegemonism", the coining of the term "hyperpuissance", and the dream of making the EU a "counterbalance" to the United States all flaring up in the '90s. "

...and so on. Please revert your own revert. Jumping into an extremely controverisal topic without knowing what you're doing doesn't help anything. All the edits I made were discussed in the Talk page. All the removed text violates policies on neutrality and original research. Your behavior borders on vandalism. Life.temp (talk) 00:49, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

accusations of "vandalism[edit]

How does it constitute vandalism? I own the book, I took the time to look up the relevant passages, I referenced FIVE different sections of the book, not online, the HARD COVER copy of the book, printed on paper, I listed my references properly and summarized the information therein.

If you have a problem with the content, I'm sorry, but that's what it says. If you want me to quote large sections of the book verbatim, I'll be happy to do that. The information is valid, its informative and its referenced. I don't know where you get off accusing me of vandalism: you are removing valid info from an article, YOU are the one vandalizing the page. I'm reverting it because you have no valid claim on destroying my very pain-staking research. Do you have an idea how long it takes to summarize information contained in a 700+ page book, with an index that only references names so I have to scan individual pages looking for my pertinent passages? I am very put out you high-handedly deleted my careful and thorough work. Please stop vandalizing the page, yourself.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.100.13.236 (talk) 23:52, April 28, 2008 (UTC)

^^^ lol, yes, i wasn't quite sure what to do with this. I figured plain reverting it might be in bad faith, in case you didn't notice it, so I figured I would paste it here for you to see. xenocidic (talk) 00:17, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am uncertain of the material being put there by User:AHCoates. I don't know if this is new content or pure invention.... Any thoughts? --CanadianLinuxUser (talk) 15:33, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for butting in. Although the article is terra incognita for me, it didn't look like "vandalism". I, personally, relying on WP:AGF, would not have plastered the user's talk page with a vandalism template. --brewcrewer (yada, yada) 15:50, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you get all of that IP's spam on the Masonic articles?[edit]

I was just wondering, because if not, I'll go clear some of it myself. MSJapan (talk) 15:57, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The RickK Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
The amount of vandalism you revert is immense. Rarely do I face such competition from a non-Bot vandal fighter! Keep up the sterling work! ;-) Lradrama 17:01, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Second Opinion[edit]

I would like a second opinion on the edits by [[7]] on The Lives of John Lennon . He cites a book as a source, however not having read this one I am looking for someone else's opinion. If he "interprets" "Successfully sued" by one out of court settlement... [[8]] I am guessing it is biased. Anyways... instead of an edit war I am wondering what a second pair of eyes see. Thanks in advance.. --CanadianLinuxUser (talk) 10:28, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
