Bangladesh[edit]

It is so nice of you to get in touch with me. I don't think I will need any support physically as my family contacts in Bangladesh would he providing that. My stay in Dhaka will be short but I would try to contact you. I will be travelling with my family to Dhaka by bus. I wanted to have an experience of the Padma crossing. I am a retired person and as such neither do I have the energy of youth nor the physical fitness. For the Tangail-Bogra trip, I intend to hire a car/ taxi. For the Mymensing-Netrakona trip I will probably use a bus. I have a great fascination for rivers and so I wanted to have the experience of a steamer trip but I have dropped that for the time being. I will be carrying a digital camera and so will be taking a lot of pictures.

I would like to buy some books about Bangladesh. My interests are geography and local history (say history of Bogra or Mymensing). I already have the Lonely Planet tourist guide. Where should I look for books in Dhaka? Do you know of any book about the howals of Sylhet and the rivers of Bangladesh (Bengali/ English)? Is there any informative book about Dhaka? The Lonely Planet guide is supposed to be the best and has a lot of information but I am hungry for more. In the past, I have bought some books from the Bangladesh stalls in Kolkata Book Fair. I have good general maps of Bangladesh but I would like to have one showing the howals of Sylhet.

By the way, is it raining very heavily in Dhaka? It is still raining in Kolkata - rather unusual.

With regards

DYK[edit]

Tarif I wonder how you track all these DYKs! Is it possible for you to retrieve the actual DYK entries? If you could post them on my talk page, it would be much easier for me to add them to relevant portals. Arman (Talk) 04:56, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the DYKs. I've added the relevant ones to Bangladesh portal. I have also established a more state-of-the-art randomization scheme for Bangladesh DYKs.
Once you're done with the additions to ShereBangla article we need to submit it for GA. We need Biography articles like these in the pipeline for Portal:Bangladesh Nomination. Regards, Arman (Talk) 07:09, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Salahuddin[edit]

No policy says that Portal DYKs must be the ones displayed on the main page. I'll go ahead and add the Salahuddin DYK anyways. Arman (Talk) 02:26, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Chuti2.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Chuti2.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:32, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My trip[edit]

I am sorry I could not contact you during the trip. It was a good trip except that my daughter fell ill and as such we had to cut off many programmes. Anyway, I am quite happy about whatever I have been able to visit and I have collected some books and maps. The most exciting was a trip to the haors in Sunamganj. I should be able to contribute to some of the Bangladesh pages in due course. Thanks for all your support and assistance. With regards - P.K.Niyogi 05:04, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A proposal[edit]

I have a proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Outreach. Please take a look and share your view. Arman (Talk) 01:57, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding "bangla wiki": that's exactly the area where you can help. I am not very familiar with Bangla wiki staffs yet. I don't know exactly where to raise it. I also know you guys have a periodic gathering in Dhaka on wiki-related matters. Please raise this proposal there as well. Unfortunately I usually can't attend these sessions as I live in Hong Kong. I'll visit Bangladesh in about a month for a week. We may try to meet then. My Dhaka residence is at Mirpur. You live in Shangshad Bhaban area, right?
I would be very glad if you could run with this project from the front. I am more interested about running the competition for the English wikipedia first. If there are other interested donors, we can replicate it for Bengali wikipedia as well. Arman (Talk) 10:55, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Van den Brouck’s map[edit]

I have provided the description. The above is the correct spelling. I made a mistake when uploading the map. I am sure you are following the main page. I am now working on the haors. I am hoping to put it up for DYK sometime next week. Regards. - P.K.Niyogi (talk) 14:19, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bangladesh competition[edit]

Dear Tarif: I have taken the liberty to nominate you as the "Secretary" of the organizing committee of the competition that we discussed. I have done this in the new page that I have created to discuss this competition. Could you please take a look and express your opinion there. Arman (Talk) 05:52, 26 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Next step for you would be to indicate on the page whether you are o.k. to take up the secretary role :). Right now we are just discussing. Ragib bhai will kick off the work when he goes to Bangladesh. Arman (Talk) 11:17, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Please go ahead with the discussion. No need to check with me at all.. you are the secretary... you can take any step you want. Just let me know the outcome of the discussion. Arman (Talk) 05:09, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey... are you missing in action or busy with the on-ground happenings in Dhaka? I have just read through the article North Bengal, and did a little bit of editing to incorporate Bangladesh into it. But, it still reads like North Bengal is a West Bengal thing. I couldn't remember a more diligent editor than you to make this request - can you edit the article to include more of Bangladesh? If you are stuck with anything, I'll be there to help of course, at least as much as I can. How are things going at the Bangla Wiki? Cheers. Aditya(talkcontribs) 14:59, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

War crimes? How very exciting. What are the articles? 1971 Bangladesh atrocities? Al-Badr, Razakars, Jamaat-e-Islami? What is the progress rate? There seems to be a massive opportunity there. Just list out the possible articles that have this topic and let's see if we can get the community involved. And, about North Bengal, I don't think we need book cites right now. Just put down what you know already. Then let's take it forward from there. Aditya(talkcontribs) 05:52, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi,

I am a Canadian in which I am grateful for the freedom we have in terms of expressing our needs and feelings and to be heard as a citizen by the government or any hierarchy here. I see that in Cuba the people have to live in such silence of expression because some idiot Castro thinks he is better but he isnt and he will not live forever. I am grateful to see him leave and in this life I will propably see him leave eventually and so the people are given more freedom and room to shuffle their power back for the country and for what they need, not what the government need. So people out there who are imprisoned in the cuban country the time is soon that this can happen and it is in all your power to do something about to free yourselves. I am quite sure there are more of you citizens there in Cuba than the government. They use intimidation tactics to make you all think that they have so much power but they dont and you have to believe that. For example, when a woman is in an abusive relationship with a man, she will feel intimidated by him and will start thinking he has so much power to control her life but it is only a tactic used to keep you from information and the knowledge to say bye bye I have the freedom to say something about this. So Cuba Hurray hosay come on citizens you have the power to free yourselves from the Castro government. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.53.128.79 (talk) 00:35, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Competition: Next Step[edit]

Hi Tarif, I think we are now all set to move to the next phase of the competition that we discussed earlier on WikiProject Bangladesh Outreach page. For this purpose, I have started the Deshipidian 2008 page and have also drafted an email for mass circulation to promote the competition. Please review the page and the draft email and let me know if you have any comments. I'm proposing that we circulate the email widely starting February 1, 2008. In addition, if BDOSN can help promote this competition through some newspaper coverage that would be fantastic. Yours truly Arman (Talk) 09:20, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gone AWOL[edit]

Hi Tarif bhai,

Just wanted to drop you a quick note with my sincere apologies for being "offline" for so long and not able to assist you with any of the articles (and expect to remain so for a while longer). Real life issues have taken priority and therefore WP has had to take a backseat (or rather been at a standstill!). I'm visiting Bangladesh shortly also for a couple of weeks and will try and take some photos for increasing the WP free image portfolio. Anyway, hope you're all keeping well and keep up the good work!

Invitation to join discussion[edit]

Dear member, I have started a collaboration discussion on WikiProject Bangladeshi Universities talk page to start a collaboration among the Wikipedians who are working for this project. Initially we want to know who are working on which articles and what are the problems they are facing while editing those articles. Moreover, we want to create a standard format suitable for Bangladeshi universities, which will also be discussed there. I would appreciate your effort to come and express your views regarding this issue. Kind regards, -- Niaz(Talk • Contribs) 14:27, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tarif,

Hope you are well. Been a while since I did any real stuff here on WP due to other commitments but noticed that Biman Bangladesh Airlines is scheduled for the mainpage on Sunday, 28th September. It's been a while since it became FA and there have been major changes to the organisation since then. I'll try and spare some time to brush it up a bit. stamp[edit]

To be able to use the stamp under a Fair use claim, you need to have at least a paragraph on the stamp itself (e.g. BD post office released a commemorative stamp on so and so on this date. The stamp was priced at xyz paisa etc.). Otherwise, the stamp use will be invalid. --Ragib (talk) 21:34, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That will be the Mohiuddin Jahangir article. I haven't checked who added it there, but since you are working on it now, may be you can fix it as suggested. Good luck. --Ragib (talk) 21:45, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean an "article" about the stamp :). Just create a section about "Commemoration" or "Legacy" in Mohiuddin Jahangir, or may be a paragraph somewhere in that article, and add info about the stamp there. --Ragib (talk) 21:53, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
