My (HereToHelp’s) RfA[edit]

Thank you for supporting my RfA. I’m proud to inform you that it passed 75 support to 1 oppose to 2 neutral. I promise to make some great edits in the future (with edit summaries!) and use these powers to do all that I can to help. After all, that’s what I’m here for! Thank you[edit]

Hello TantalumTelluride, how are you? Thanks for your support in my RFA. The final vote count was (88/3/1), so I am now an administrator. I am very humbled by your vote and grateful. Please let me know if at any stage you require assistance, or if you have comments on how I am doing as an administrator. Once again thank you and with kind regards Gryffindor 17:58, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tempest over Nada[edit]

Thanks for responding. Am I wrong, or correct in thinking I need an Admin to affect a move. (My helper did what I could've done, N'est pas? So I guess I needed someone to also read all the words!) See: User talk:Valentinian. Sheesh! Thanks for responding too. FrankB 02:01, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I disagreed with him on which name is the most proper name, so I simply added a redirect, particularly since the page was listed for merging. I've responded on his talk page, and I consider his accusations that I'm an idiot and illiterate to be a violation of WP:NPA. Regards. Valentinian (talk) 09:54, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Brush Fire Answer[edit]

I didn't need this political brush fire to deal with sitting down to work! I responded to Valentinian on my talk and by email, pointing out that I called myself the idiot. Also, that I meant no offense. Regarding this:

  • Most registered users have the ability to move pages to nonexisting titles and to some redirect pages. (How? WP:MOVE is most unhelpful.) Only admins can move pages to existing titles because they have the ability to delete the target page and/or merge page histories, as necessary. I'm not sure I understand what the problem was with regard to the eMagazine pages, since they redirect to Online magazine. The problem is that I was an idiot in chosing a link with the plural 'trial' name, and not realizing it wasn't one of the singular variants in the same text when I created it in that moment. (I'll frequently try various spellings/variants of some article name I intuit should exist as I compose something that needs such a reference. No mystery, just a technique.) We can always add an 'S' outside. So I was trying to tidy up my mistake.) In any case, if you need any help with complicated page moves in the future, you can use Wikipedia:Requested moves. --TantalumTelluride 03:03, 4 April 2006 (UTC) The remembering that when fatigued is an issue. In this, I was looking for what I thought was a quick easy fix of an obvious gaff. My impression of WP:RM is that it's more for contentious matters, but I've been wrong before, as aren't we all. Mostly, I just wanted to clean up a To-Do spec of dirt and get some shut-eye. I certainly wasn't attacking someone who helped me!
  • I didn't consider this the least complicated (until seeing Valentinians second misreading), but something beyond my capabilities. Hope that makes sense. If you can show me a definitive How-to guide that doesn't need the concurrent ability to speedy-delete the bad form, I would be most interested and grateful. I sometimes think WikiP has more guidelines than the US government! Just when I think I've got a handle on something, up comes another snake to shatter my equinamity! If you can't find a user methodd as I have not, then let's just get on with the job! FrankB 16:22, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean "equanimity"?[edit]

That's a very interesting word, regardless of the proper spelling. Anyway, I hope neither of you were offended by my message. I didn't mean to offend anyone at all. I'm also very sorry for editing your talk page while it was under construction. I didn't notice the {{Inuse}} template, and I hope I didn't cause you any inconvenience. --TantalumTelluride 20:59, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I can't spell worth a darn. Your edit had no percievable impact on me, probably because I was busy with the heading graphics, not the tail where you added and the software was able to adjust. I'd guess you did a section edit... whereas mine was full body. I'm not sure where or how you could possibly be offending anyone. Hey— you were both trying to help. I think he/she got a little excited over a poorly chosen bit of phrase. Regarding equanimity, this thing threw off all my planned activity thus far today, and now I have to deal with the real world with nested edits hanging unfinished due to time pressures. That puts body blows on equanimity, no matter how laid back one may be!

Have a better week than my day's been! FrankB 21:28, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

See-Right Word! :) 1) Never did get to my planned edits yesterday, though made a good dent in my older 'patrol' 2) Do you happen to know where the spelling tools are listed? I finally have a compatible browser, but can't seem to relocate the page. :(  FrankB
There's a list of spellcheckers at Wikipedia:Tools/Editing tools#Spell Checkers. If you don't find what you're looking for there, you should probably start at Wikipedia:User scripts or Wikipedia:Tools and try to find it from those pages. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 01:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Many thanks, I'll crop those links right over into my useful list (Digital memory, forsooth!), and it's just what I need; I'd seen them before (long ago), but that was last summer, and I'm just back in the saddle again after 7 months.! I need to get a better handle on finding wiki things. Think I need to check my profiles for searching. That maybe the problem, and not the brain! (One can hope)
Thanks very much indeedy! FrankB 01:42, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What Do you Advise on this?[edit]

What would you think about the wisdom of posting a discrete link to this notice at the very page top Wikipedia:WikiProject_Stub_sorting/Proposals, and how do you like the concept? Something in a box saying See this New Notice (Flashing lights and sirens wouldn't be enough as far as I can see!) Sigh! Back to content edits! Best! FrankB 20:32, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing wrong with advertising new policy proposals. You might also want to link to the proposal from the village pump (policy). I personally don't have much experience with stub sorting, so I don't feel comfortable making any judgment on the proposal itself. --TantalumTelluride 03:18, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I simply goofed - twice really. 1) Missed the obvious 2) That wasn't the best page to start the idea, and frankly, I'm not sure why I did save it crystalized in reading something up above, then I got a little excited about it, as there are a fair number of people on that project... I suspect the rest of the story is having vision problems passing the big 5-oh has made things unpleasant this last two years in close work. Fortunately, got new glasses that have fixed that.

Thanks for the input. I've edited the suggestions (re: 'Egg on Face' under the 1st link.), if this isn't clear yet. FrankB 04:26, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #2[edit]

The Barnstar Brigade is a new program aimed at giving more very deserving yet unappreciated users barnstars. It will officially start on 2006-04-09, but signing up is encouraged before this date:
"Here in Wikipedia, there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go un-appreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go un-noticed. Sadly, these editors often leave the project. As Esperanzians, we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. A project the size of Wikipedia has thousands of editors, so there are plenty of people out there who deserve recognition, one just has to find them. The object of this program is not to flood editors with Barnstars, but to seek out people who deserve them, and make them feel appreciated."
The Stress alerts program aims at identifying users who are stressed, alerting the community of thier stress and works in tandem with the Stressbusters at trying to identify causes of stress and eliminating them.
Information
Welcome to the second issue of the new format Esperanza Newsletter - we hope you still like it! This week, it was delivered diligently by our new dogsbody. MiszaBot (run by Misza13): any execution complaints should go to him. Content comments should be directed at the Esperanza talkpage. Thanks!
  1. The next elections: Approval voting as before and, also as before, an previous leadership member can run. Please submit your name for voting in the relevant section of this page. Voting starts on 2006-04-23 and ends on 2006-04-30. There will be three places up for grabs as KnowledgeOfSelf is leaving Wikipedia. Please see the previously linked page for full details.
  2. The Code of Conduct is now ready for extensive discussion! Specific comments should go to the Code of Conduct talk page, discussion of having one at all should be directed to the main Esperanza talk page.
  3. The current process for accepting proposals for new programs has been deemed fine. All Advisory Council members and the Admin Gen are to endevour to be bold when viewing discussion. If they feel that consensus has been reached, they will act accordingly.
A plea from the editor...
The propsed programs page is terribly underused! Please leave any comments, good or bad, on the page, to help us determine the membership's thoughts on the ideas there.
Signed...

Thanking You a lot

Reporting troll[edit]

User:Prin aka Man's Plans aka Yellow is repeatedly vandalising and extreme trolling in Ajith's page in the pretext of inserting new table template presentation. He has removed all links to songs, trailers, whole paragraphs, white spaces, Telugu filmography, etc... without bothering to discuss whatsoever. What should we do? Please reckon that we have been slowly collecting the links and data over several weeks now. Anwar saadat 11:28, 7 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TantalumTelluride - I am the Man's Plan[edit]

Pleased to meet you. I am an Ajith, I was the one to create the new formated table. User:Anwar Sadat is trying to get rid of it. If u check the Asin and Madhavan articles, they have got the same format but no arguement is created there. His point is that he wants songs, WELL... whats the point when you can simply go onto raaga and get the songs.

I would also not want to be called User:Prin, as he is not me, he is actually a friend on Wikipedia. As he goes with me rather than against. But User:Prin is also claiming that he was the one who created the fashionable good looking table, but I don't see why he should recieve the credit.

I shall make good use of Wikipedia as I have enjoyed making it recently and have already contributed by making articles of different films.

Thank You

Yours faithfully,

The Man's Plans

My RFA[edit]

Thanks for your vote.

Hi, this is Matt Yeager. I wanted to thank you for your vote on my request for adminship. The count was something like was 14/20/5 when I decided to withdraw the request. My decision was based on the fact that there are enough things wasting people's time on the Internet that doomed RFA's shouldn't be kept up for voters to have to think about. Regardless of the rationale behind your vote, I hope you will read this note for an extended note and discussion on what will happen before I make another try at adminship (I didn't want to clog up your userpage with drivel that you might not be interested in reading). Thank you very, very much for your vote and your time and consideration of my credentials--regardless of whether you voted support, nuetral, or oppose. Happy editing! Barnstar of Diligence[edit]

This Barnstar of Diligence is awarded to TantalumTelluride for your tireless answering of questions at the Newcomers help page. -- Natalya 17:43, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! You certainly deserve it. :) -- Natalya 20:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My Two Cents on This[edit]

Great job! Congradulations.

  • If I can interject a discordant thought, this page needs to be easier to find (I just want you overworked!)
  • This (followed the link on barnstar) is the first time I've seen it, much less found it, and I was searching for it last week hard for a newbie!
    • It's just not obvious enough in the hurly-burly of the navigation stuff on the (my) sidebar. I ended up answering a question on another help page-the one for general problems outside wiki. (See my consequent add to Flea)
  • Besides, I chip in - see User talk:Macs417 for a couple hours of proof (articles too).
  • Is this link the one in the standard Welcome template '{{welcome}}? NOT! I just tested it. That takes you to the very busy Help:Contents page.
  • I suggest you suggest that or do it or such so it happens. I'll add it to my welcome message, which is like me, more complex but generally useful to have around  :) <G>.
    • Heck... I acted BOLDLY' see:

Why can't I get the border to work??? Fix the help sect#0 too! Ahhhh Sooo. Best! FrankB 22:56, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • No offense but I find that really ugly.--HereToHelp 00:12, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • You're right about the need to increase visibility of the Newcomer's help page. Right now, most newbie's probably find their way to it from Wikipedia:Where to ask a question, which is included in the welcome message. It hasn't been long since the page was restuctured from the old "clueless-newbies" format, which didn't work very well. Now that we've got most of the bugs worked out, the page should probably be "advertised" a little more extensively. A change to Template:Welcome might not be necessary, since many questions and comments might need to be directed to the reference desk, the village pump, or some other place. WP:ASK does a fairly good job of explaining where to ask certain questions. As far as that gray box is concerned, I would suggest that you at least change the wording to something like "Click here to ask a question about editing Wikipedia." We have a lot of irrelevant questions that should be asked at the reference desk or simply looked up at WP:FAQ or one of our encyclopedia articles. --TantalumTelluride 02:36, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Egads! I thought that gray box for for your own welcome messages. It doesn't quite fit in at Help:Contents. I'm moving to the discussion at Help talk:Contents. Please see my comments there. Thanks. --TantalumTelluride 02:46, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • No doubt, but it certainly made gave the matter some accelerated 'VISIBLITY', so was succesful in raising the point. I'll leave the nitty-gritty details to those most concerned. It's just good enough to have finally located that link (Which I've given some prominence on my 'Menus' as I invite newbies to pick through. It's simple enough to select other colors if it 'That Ugly' <G>, but I'm more focused on functional as you can see! <G> FrankB 16:48, 22 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

re: Request some 'peer review' (Talkpage sections detailing concerns)] on new article: Arsenal of Democracy This post is being made Friday 14 April 2006 to a double handful (spam?) of admins & editors for some reactions, and advice (Peer Review) on this article, and it's remaining development, as I'd like to put it to bed ASAP. (Drop in's welcome too!) Your advice would be valuable and appreciated. Replies on talk link (above) indicated. Thanks! FrankB 18:56, 14 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Great feedback— the flaws were just the kind of thing I was thinking myself, but the whole idea just came out of the blue when I couldn't find a reference to the title. My search techniques need upgrading, as another managed better. ;(

  • The beginning still begs a good solution I think, but I'm most concerned with how to make it encyclopedic rather than an essay. Deep POV waters might lie in that thar' direction!
  • Still, the reaction mirrors the reservations I had, and many of the ideas are well beyond my expectations.
  • That's why I was looking for the help my friend, this was essentially a preliminary draft of a concept which I could feel as a gestalt when I concieved it — how do I get someone to understand and appreciate what I know is the background of this lovely collection of words, and how do I present that?
  • Well, this was stab#1 and I'd concieved this technique to avoid potential POV or an essay type structure. But while I'm still not quite sure how to start it, you folks are mostly all coming through with good ideas on how to build it in other ways, which may get me a solution for that given a better uniform overall strategy. So thankyou again.

I think I'll have it moved off to a user page sandbox until I get an even higher priority larger project cleared up, but that should wait until next weekend or so to give the other invitees and drop-ins a crack at it.

  • Thanks again! My champion! LOL (Looks like I can do worse too!)

Hayworth jumped on the article so fast that he made me abandon the whole weeks plans I had. Sigh!
And you've got it dead right.
You any good with tables? What am I missing? I'm trying for a multiple columns as indicated by the titles
Thanks again! FrankB 21:05, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

        • Hey- you forgot yourself! Thanks for the assist; I'd thought I'd seen some that can go horizontally as well, like I was trying. These verticle jobs suck up a lot of lines on an edit screen. I'll have to poke around.
But Thanks, this is something I can build on. FrankB 22:07, 15 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TIM PAT COOGAN WIKIPAGE AND DISCUSSION PAGE[edit]

Dear Sir:

Can you please review the Tim Pat Coogan wikipage and Discussion Page. There is a known censor and Catholic apologist (Demiurge) who is deleting my edits claiming I am a "sockpuppet".

My additions to the page are sourced and cited, and there is no valid reason for them to be deleted except in the pursuit of a political agenda, which, as a censor and apologist Demiurge most definitely has. Also why is he also deleting my notes on the Discussion Page? Maybe he's scared someone will see them??

Thank you for your attention. 70.19.67.28 00:01, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You have become involved in a very controversial page at a time that suggests that you might be editing as an anonymous sockpuppet of an indefinitely blocked user. I don't know whether you are the user in question or not, but I shall try to assume good faith. I can assure you that I am completely neutral on this issue involving Coogan and his books, that I have no pre-existing biases towards any Wikipedia users involved in the relevant conflict, and that I don't intend to take a side in this dispute. That being said, I strongly encourage you to try to settle this conflict in a civil manner. Please do not continuously revert articles; revert wars clutter the page history, disrupt the project, and never contribute to a civil resolution. First, you should contact the other user(s) involved and kindly explain why you prefer a certain version of the article. Be specific, remain civil, and don't use personal attacks. Ask the other user(s) to explain the reasoning behind their reversions. Initiate a discussion. If a decision cannot be reached, then there are other steps that might be taken, but first you must make an attempt to discuss the issue on the article's talk page and/or the talk pages of the involved parties. Please note that Wikipedia has a policy against revert wars. Don't revert the article again unless there is a consensus to revert to a particular version. --TantalumTelluride 03:50, 20 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
