From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ah, welcome to my humble talk page. Please, all questions, comments, and concerns in the NEW BUSINESS section with whatever title you so desire, and I will sort it when it's been taken care of, or whenever I feel like it.

HERE ARE A FEW NOTES. PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING A NEW POINT.

1. I make new season changes to MLB uniforms during the opening month of the season, usually a week or two after the beginning of the regular season. This is because during Spring Training when I used to do it, teams have begun wearing uniforms specifically for Spring Training, and I have to wait until the regular season for the uniforms to see game use, and for the combination of jersey, pants, socks, caps, etc. become evident. Before that, most new jerseys don't even get seen with anything but a pair of jeans, and decisions are still not final yet.

2. The Wikipedia MLB Uniform Images show a team's home, away, and alternate uniforms. Special one-off uniforms are not included, such at the Stars and Stripes uniforms, or one-time throwbacks. Including all of these would cause the image to get way too unwieldy for some teams. The goal is to have a standard-size image that is at a legible size. If it is in regular, scheduled rotation, it is included. If a team never uses their home or away uniform, though, it is still included, due to the official designation by the team. City Connect uniforms have made things complicated with some teams planning regular use and others pretty much boxing them by now. I will see if they have regular use and if they do, they're included.

3. These are images of the current uniform. That means if you saw a uniform in play, it should look exactly like this image to every detail possible at the size. That means patches as well. If there's a new memorial or special event patch that I haven't added, please let me know.

4. There is one instance of each jersey shown. The primary part of the uniform, at least in my opinion, is the jersey. If the same jersey is shown with different pants, socks, caps, etc. it doesn't count as a separate uniform. All combinations will not be shown.

5. While I created the original NFL template, I no longer maintain them. Please contact the users credited with the recent uploads for anything relating to them.

6. While I created the current NHL template, I no longer maintain them. Please contact whoever edited that individual image (there's a lot of different users) for anything relating to them. For anything that involved the template, though, I suppose I'd be the one to contact.

THANK YOU.

MLB jersey images and the Nike swoosh[edit]

Hi, thank you for your contributions. I'd just like to point out a detail regarding the use of the Nike swoosh on the undershirt in the jersey images. Since the jersey license switched to Nike, with the swoosh appearing on the jersey itself, these undershirts seem to have disappeared. See for example this old photo of Joey Votto [1] compared to one from this season [2]; or here with Mike Trout [3] [4]. Anecdotally, I can't recall seeing any player wearing such an undershirt this season.

One could also argue that the undershirt swoosh shouldn't have been there in the first place; undershirts are left at the player's discretion, and are not part of the official uniform. This Business Insider article [5] from 2011 discusses just that.

This is admittedly a nitpick on my part, but I hope you'll consider this when making future versions of these images. Thanks! 162 etc. (talk) 19:59, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah. When they were initially added in 2010, this was the standard cold weather undershirt, although when you think of it, the turtleneck collar doesn't much work with the short sleeves, huh? I was going to switch to the batterman logo, but found when looking at the league that this options was barely worn in comparison to the Nike version.
In preparation for this year, I looked at this again, seeing if smaller collars more in keeping with generic undershirts, but doing this and also trying without the light mark causes any navy or black undershirt to look like an undefined blob. The white mark really goes a long way to helping the brain read what is being shown, given the scale we're working with.
I'm going to continue looking at it and hopefully find a solution. The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 18:23, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Bumping this. It's pretty clear in 2024 that the swoosh undershirt is not representative of a "standard" MLB uniform. Thank you for your contributions. 162 etc. (talk) 17:21, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's long gone in the new template based on... well... the new template. I'm currently watching Getty Images and about to check with sources to see what is still in use and what is not in use this year. Naturally, the shortages are causing more of an issue. But once everyone's 2024 uniform lineups are in order, the whole league will be uploaded with the 2024 updated version! The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 18:26, 17 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

World Baseball Classic Uniforms[edit]

Hey, I love the work that you do for all the uniforms for the MLB. Do you have any interest in making those same uniform templates but for the national baseball teams of each country? ANTbook365 (talk) 03:43, 27 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I didn't even get MLB done last year. Perhaps in time for the next tourney. The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 16:25, 16 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

MLB Uniform errors[edit]

Hi, I’ve noticed just three small errors to the Mets and dodgers uniform updates for 2023. For the Mets there are two errors. First, the Mets have worn white pants with pipping on their blue alternates, not pinstripe pants. Secondly, the black alternates shouldn’t have blue pipping down the torso, it’s only suppose to have blue pipping on the sleeves. And for the Dodgers the grey alternates that say “Los Angeles” are missing the blue sleeve pipping on the left arm. The sleeve pipping only appears on the right arm as it is now. Great work on the updates though, they all look great. ANTbook365 (talk) 01:21, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Huh. Weird. Fixed! The Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 00:14, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arizona Diamondbacks cap error[edit]

Hi, I love your work and contributions on MLB uniforms. The cap for the Arizona Diamondbacks' home uniform is supposed to be red not black. All other uniforms remains the same. So can you fix it plz, thanks! WilliamsKat13304 (talk) 10:51, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yup! I've seen that they've gone with the red. Initial word when they were revealed was that the black would be the primary and the red an alt. It looks good. I've actually completely redone everything to bring it in-line with the new template. Right now I'm just waiting for all the uniforms to make their debut, although Nike has stated some are not going to be ready, so I may have to set a deadline for the end of the month.
