Beaver Stadium[edit]

Hi Sebas87, I saw that you uploaded an image of Beaver Stadium. I'd like to verify that the image is properly tagged -- namely, do you know who took the picture, and if they said it could be used for any purpose? I'm planning to get a picture of Beaver Stadium soon, which I will license with the creative commons license, but if that image just came off of a website (I seem to recall seeing it before), then it's not acceptable for use here unless the person who took it agreed to release it. --Spangineer^es (háblame) 03:53, 30 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sebas87!

I would like to take the picture for the german article. For that reason I need to know under which licence the picture has been released. The problem is that in the german wiki it is not allowed to integrate pictures under the fair use licence. That makes it hard to find good pictures.

G'day Sebas,

I notice you've been uploading a lot of football-related images to Wikipedia. Now, the images look absolutely fantastic, and we always need more photos for football-related articles. However, I'm not sure we're allowed to use them.

Any images not in the public domain must be in one of two categories to be usable on Wikipedia: free (that is, compatible with the GFDL) or fair use. Really nice-looking photographs belonging to news agencies probably don't qualify for "fair use" in this instance, and you've provided no evidence that the images are free. News agencies have been known to get upset with people who violate their copyrights; if you can't provide evidence that we're allowed to use this images, they'll be deleted in no more than seven days from now.

If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks for uploading Image:Frings torsten08.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
