Russell T Davies (born 1963) is a Welsh television producer and screenwriter notable for the 2005 revival of the classic British science fiction series Doctor Who. Born in Swansea, Davies joined the BBC's children's department on a part-time basis in 1985 and eventually wrote two series for the network, Dark Season and Century Falls. As a freelance writer in the mid-1990s, Davies' early scripts explored concepts of religion and sexuality among various backdrops: Springhill was a soap drama about a Catholic family in contemporary Liverpool; The Grand explored society's opinion of contemporary subjects during the interwar period; and Queer as Folk, his first prolific series, recreated his experiences in the Manchester gay scene. Works during the 2000s include Bob & Rose, which portrayed a gay man who fell in love with a woman, The Second Coming, which focused on the second coming and deicide of Jesus Christ, and Casanova, an adaptation of the Venetian lover's complete memoirs. An arbitration case regarding sexology has now closed and the final decision is viewable at the link above. The following remedies have been enacted:

1. Standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all articles dealing with transgender issues and paraphilia classification (e.g., hebephilia).
2. User:Jokestress and User:James Cantor are banned from interacting with each other, commenting on and/or commenting about each other including their professional lives, works and on-wiki activities. This applies to all namespaces, but excludes dispute resolution that explicitly relates to both parties.
3. User:Jokestress is indefinitely banned from the topic of human sexuality, including biographical articles.

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. Advice

Don't mess this up or become tense over it. I just plowed through the archives for a few mentions that back your assertions and tried to help. Taking a hardline is not in your interest, and I believe the 7 sources I mentioned help prove that your actions were not without considerable thought. You'd do well to strike or remove your confronting posts because not all editors see the content dispute and behavior as separate matters. Your behavior matters more then the content issue at this point, even if they are wrong, you want to move forward and not stay in the past. I added sources for the content dispute side, maybe an effective counter even, but that should be enough for future eyes to make a decision provided you don't become confrontational over the old issue. Yes, indeed. As I mentioned, I'm still extremely bitter about the way I was treated during the topic ban discussion and the talk page discussions leading up to it. As a trans woman myself, who had not come out on Wikipedia at the time, I did find the level of discussion rather personally offensive; being called "a repulsive lying bigot" and having my intentions as an a LGBT person called into question still rather hurts, and I never received an apology for it. I agree with you. I have a cousin who is M2F and the polite thing was to ask both what she preferred to be called (the family knew her only be her male name prior to my asking) and what pronouns to use. Though I understand why you were blocked, I am grateful that it is brief. The list of quotes you posted on Jimbo's talk page is telling, sad and offensive to all compassionate people, not just transgendered people. I have always favored addressing people by the names of their choice, without regard to legalities. So, Jimmy Carter and Chelsea Manning. It's easy. And gender self-identification is intensely personal, and I believe in accepting people as they self-identify.

Your post was well worth being blocked for. It raises the usual set of uncomfortable truths about bigotry that always require highlighting in the loudest forum one can find. Use your voice sparingly and only risk being blocked when it is worthwhile. This was worthwhile. I doubt it will go anywhere or make any difference, but it was worthwhile. Now that you mention it, he also said that it would be unwise to allow his page to be used as a "useless battleground for editors who have been excluded elsewhere" – which is exactly what was happening here. But in any case, I don't see it as particularly relevant. Jimbo Wales needs to respect community-imposed sanctions just like everybody else. He has no more right to unilaterally declare his user space exempt from them than you or I would. Comments by other administrators on the AN thread were unanimous in saying Sceptre's edits were unacceptable. No comparison like that can be perfect. There does exist on Wikipedia a problem with dealing with controversial topics. E.g. in the Amanda Knox case Admins had been imposing a regime in which editors got unfairly blocked because of their POV. Jimbo intervened there when a banned editor posted on his talk page about this. It seems that this case may be similar, you have Jimbo again complaining that Sceptre should not have been blocked for bringing a real problem to his attention. By blocking Sceptre for that, the topic ban ends up being a de-facto cover to hide a real problem, similar to the US attempts to stop Snowden from leaking information to the media. And with Sceptre topic-banned, then discussions were limited about trans issues in Manning case, where many of us were eventually shocked when U.S. national news reported "Chelsea E. Manning" announced a name/gender change. Plus, who knew wp:MOSIDENTITY covered such cases, and now the enwiki admins who move-renamed the Manning page are being accused of improper admin conduct, some wanting those admins sanctioned, with wild calls for desysopping. Meanwhile, I have been learning some developers do not want to fix the trivial wp:edit_conflicts which can be auto-merged by a few simple changes to MediaWiki utility diff3.c, and no one told me what "cisgender" meant because Sceptre is too afraid to discuss wp:COMMONNAME, where I have been debating the unusual forcing of dashes into names which 95%-99% of the world spells with hyphens. Sceptre is instantly seen as coherent, well-reasoned, and restrained (i.e., not "site-banned"), and yet another questionable case of "indef topic ban". BTW: I am indef topic-banned (2.3 years now) about Amanda Knox re "Murder of Meredith Kercher" and "all related institutions" across Italy! More later.... -Wikid77 (talk) 19:40, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi, my apologies for contacting you directly. Can you tell me how I can get an article re-assessed by the WikiProject UK Roads please? I have been working on Wade's Causewway the last couple of weeks and the project still classifies it as a stub, which I do not think is appropriate any more. File:Samesex marriage in USA.svg and grey color

Hey, I noticed you recolored the 7f7f7f grey on the map to a different shade. The different shade was not very distinguishable from the grey we used for New Mexico and the US territories, thus it was not optimal. Both I and one other use mistook the two colors. The edit-warring was about Category:Violence against men in North America, a category that with the removal of this page had only 2 entries and at the time had no definition of what articles should be in this category, and I can see BLP issues arising both with the category and its addition to this page. Apparently the perpetrator of this killing has written about his hatred of women, but not of men, which would justify the Category:Violence against women in the United States category (although I'd still like to see a definition for this one also). Adding the violence against men category appears to be stating that the perpetrator was acting because of his hatred of men (as well), and that doesn't seem to be justified - thus a BLP violation. I was about to close this as no violation when Crisco blocked. See also the discussion I've had with another Admin at User talk:Dominic#the editor he blocked. If I were to do so, then I would have to ask another admin to block somebody who, say, spends an hour vandalizing articles and refuses to stop (not that Spectre was vandalizing, but 3RR violation was out of policy). Had this been an issue which I had feelings regarding, there could have been WP:INVOLVED issues, or if this had been a content dispute with neither party violating policy. I warned her, reverted her violation of 3RR, and blocked her when she reverted that and went to 5RR." As I've said elsewhere, I have no strong feelings regarding this issue. I was reverting a violation of policy. Nothing more, nothing less. After reverting Sceptre I opened a discussion to head off further disruption caused by edit warring over the category (which appears to have been successful, based on a quick scan of the history). Please stop - this is a ridiculously petty edit war. You are letting your personal biases get in the way of objective editing. Regardless of what Brown uses, "equal marriage" is a term used in British political discourse exclusively by proponents of same-sex marriage, and is thus NPOV. And quite apart from anything, it's not at all obvious what it means to someone not familiar with British politics. To repeat myself yet again: if you think it's notable that she uses this term in preference to the more neutral "gay marriage", add a sentence or two to the article saying so. December 2014 GOCE newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!
