Thank you, that is great to know and I am glad it was appreciated! I enjoyed creating that one and it had some sentimental value to me as well. I look forward to bringing more noteworthy subjects to Wikipedia. While my current primary focus has been on the Caribbean, (specifically Haiti) I'd thought I'd start my work in the least developed country and then work my way over to Cuba and then to the rest of the Caribbean; then to Latin America and then to perhaps to Africa. There is a lot of history that isn't yet available from these continents that I wish to make known as it gives me great pleasure to do so. I am currently working to expand the dialect of French in Haiti called Haitian French, similarly to the current subjects available noting the French derivatives (example: Swiss French, Belgian French, African French etc). Right now, I believe the article is being unfairly challenged for deletion. The point of the article is to make a distinguish between "Haitian Creole" and "Haitian French". Many people are led to believe that "Haitian French" is the creole spoken in the land, but fail to understand that the French is in fact French and carries an accent in the way that many French countries carry as well. I've sourced it pretty heavy and think it is a good article but it is still a work in progress. If you would like to pitch in on the discussion as to why or why it shouldn't be deleted the talk page is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Haitian French. Your input would be much appreciated! Haitian patty deleted

Haitian patty has again been deleted as copyright infringement. If memory serves, you created an earlier version of the article that was also deleted as copyright infringement. The administrator who deleted the new version of the article noted that it was not copied word for word, but was a close paraphrase of the source article.

I believe that you are editing in good faith, but I've also seen a number of things you added to Wikipedia removed. I hope you will review the advice about avoiding copyright infringement. What I do not understand though is if I violated copyright rules why wasn't it reverted instead of being completely deleted? I created the article with one or two sentences first that was 100% original and added some more in a later edit. (Isn't original work forbidden as well?) I made sure it was not closely paraphrased the second time. The website also no loner exists. I believe it was wrongly deleted and should have been reverted instead according to Wiki's rules. I did not delete the article, but I did communicate with DangerousPanda, the administrator who deleted it. If you believe that the deletion was improper, you can go to Wikipedia:Deletion review and ask other administrators to review the action. If they conclude that there was a version of the article free of copyright violation, they might restore it. It's probably best to ask User talk:DangerousPanda about it before listing at Deletion review.

You are right that original research is not allowed. That means that the facts or ideas included in the article should be attributed to reliable, published sources. (There is an exception: you don't need to cite a source for common knowledge, information that almost everyone knows.)

On the other hand, the actual words and sentences cannot be plagiarized. Plagiarism includes either copying sentences directly from sources, or changing the words very slightly (called close paraphrase; see the link above), among other behaviors. It can be tricky to obey both of those standards. It's not always clear exactly what is required, what is acceptable, and what is forbidden. I usually tell my students that if they have used four of the same words in the same order as their source material, they have probably committed plagiarism. But, that is simply a rule of thumb; it will not always avoid plagiarism.

Copyright infringement is a special case of plagiarism. It is not only against the ethical norms of writing and publishing; it is against the laws of many countries. For that reason, additions that violate copyright or articles that are mostly copyright violations are deleted from Wikipedia.

Okay, before I read this response, I created the article again (bare with me), removing the "information" in question and left what I thought was 100% appropriate and have added a "food stub" so the page could be further improved by anyone who wishes to do so, until I can revise it myself. I did so, so that the image I uploaded would not be removed due to being in "limbo" or not used. Just saving some time that's all. Reading the actual comments there, it seems the trend is that she is both Haitian American and African-American. Affranchi / Creole people

Hello, Savvyjack23. The name "Haitian Creole people" currently redirects to Haitian people, and that page discusses "The Creoles of Sonya Haiti and Haiti's Creole culture". In your opinion, would it be better for "Haitian Creole people" to redirect to Affranchi? If so, you can change where the redirect points by changing the page name in the square brackets. In other words, #REDIRECT [[Haitian people]] could be changed to #REDIRECT [[Affranchi]]. If that were the case, anyone typing or clicking on Haitian Creole people would go to the Affranchi page. That would be more appropriate if "Haitian Creole people" primarily means Affranchi and not other people in or from Haiti. Cnilep (talk) 08:36, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry Cnilep I just realized that; I am just trying to figure this out. The problem is that Creoles of Sonya Haiti may not even exist or incorrect terminology is being used. I actually opened a discussion on the Haitian people talk page about it. Back in these times there were "creoles" also known as "gens de couleur", mulatto, or affranchi which were the colonial terminologies used at the time of Haiti. The creole terminology although "politically correct" in reference to the union of European and African ancestry as well, it was never really used the same way as it has in Louisiana as it is usually referred to the language spoken (but then again, still correct). Also, on the creoles disambiguation page it says " from a number of ethnic groups and social classes dating to colonial times in Haiti" which however I believe to be incorrect as this denoted European (colonial) and African (slave) union as I mentioned above. This page needs citations as well as the Haitian people page. Thank you for cleaning up after a few of my mistakes; I am just trying to make some good faith edits here on the subject. Since you seem to have an interest in the Afro-Latino issues, I will ask you. Tony the Marine thank you for taking the time to write to me and considering this move, while acknowledging my interest in the subject. In this case, I believe that less is more. The beauty about Latin America is that it shares a certain unity, as it was born into a "New World" with a mixture of many proud races and cultures. The simplicity here keeps the reader involved and can easily make the transition between "Afro-Cuban", "Afro-Puerto Rican", "Afro-Brazilian" etc. For Puerto Ricans of African descent, the acknowledgement as a "current" ethnic group is crucial, rather then being looked at as "historical." Looking over the demographics of Puerto Rico, the Afros in Puerto Rico make up a strong number. As a result, I just would think the title would be more fitting as Afro-Puerto Rican. Thanks again! A suggestion about Haitian-Americans

I and a few other editors have created a number of articles on the history of ethnic groups in various cities. I have focused on Baltimore, the user WhisperToMe has done articles for Houston, the user Freechild has focused on Omaha, etc. Given your interests in Haiti and Haitians, I thought that I might suggest you could write similar articles for Haitian-Americans. Some good candidates might include History of the Haitians in Boston, History of the Haitians in Miami, and History of the Haitians in New York City. Thank you, I'm glad you like the suggestion. Perhaps another suggestion would be to make an article on French Creole or Haitian Creole in the United States, along the lines of articles on languages in the United States such as French language in the United States. I'm not sure if there is enough information though or perhaps the information should just be in the main French article. French Creole is the third most spoken language in Florida (mostly Haitian Creole, especially in Miami) and there are also speakers in Massachusetts, New York, and a few other states. I know that some government agencies and services in Miami and Boston offer Haitian Creole materials. One source I saw said there are 1 million speakers of Haitian Creole in the USA. So, perhaps there would be enough sources. I don't know, just a thought. Another thing, outside of the USA I know there are a number of Haitian Creole speakers in Canada, especially in the Montreal area, though the article on the French language in Canada doesn't really mention it. Concerning Afro Latino

As the article states, "An Afro-Latin American (also Afro-Latino in the United States) is a Latin American person of native Sub-Saharan African ancestry; " further down in the article it states "The accuracy of statistics reporting on Afro-Latin Americans has been questioned, especially where they are derived from census reports in which the subjects choose their own designation, because in various countries the concept of black ancestry is viewed with differing attitudes." Afro Latino doesn't mean of pure or majority African descend. It means anyone with African ancestry who identifies as such. Many Latin American countries have categories such as mulatto, pardo, and mestizo (meaning either spanish & indigenous or spanish, indigineous & african, such as hugo chavez who called himself either black or mestizo often. Tatertot1112, self-identification is very tricky. Hugo Chavez I had left, because he identifies himself as such. The 100 million blacks in Brazil is inaccurate. It is 7.61%, which is more like 17.5 million. Someone who is mixed, is a new breed. This is how history has taken its course since the beginning of time. Do we all not descend from Africa? However I do not see Caucasians identifying themselves as African descent. To agree with you for a second, let's insert pardos and mulattoes. Are you certain that all of these people that you have inserted identify themselves as Afro, and not ones who say they descend from Afro, (all mulattoes say they descend but they might not consider themselves black). You would need to source all these pardos and mulattoes identifying themselves as Afro. If not, it is a much safer bet to insert people of darker completion who actually identify themselves as black or afro. Do these people not deserve to represent afro or African ancestry? When I first came to this page, like it is now, those pictures are not afro or black, they are a mixed people. There should be a page for the America's that separate it, because the CIA census shows otherwise and mentions mixed and blacks separately. Savvyjack23 (talk) 20:22, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Tumba (music genre) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Hi Savvyjack23,

Depends on the situation. If the page has no significant history other than being a redirect, you can put {{db-move}} at the top of the page, then wait for an administrator to come along and delete it for you. If the page has some more significant history, you may need to list it over at Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Technical_requests, use the proposed deletion process, or put the page up at WP:RfD.

Sitush, who's talking about nationality?!?!?! Descent does not mean nationality. Oxford dictionary: "Descent: a person's family origins." Example: ...to be of Scottish descent. [1] I included sources where Stone briefly describes his family origins (descent), speaking as a English national (citizen/countryman/place of birth/jus soli). Oxford dictionary: Nationality: "The status of belonging to a particular nation." [2] I never said, he was a Scottish or Haitian national (citizen), nor did he. Here's a perfect example. "A person of Chinese parents was born in the UK, would make him a English/British citizen/national (his nationality) but of Chinese descent (origin, ethnicity)." I can get 10 administrators right now on this immediately to give their inputs, which would considerably be in favor of these cats. Please, save yourself from looking like a complete moron on this subject, since you cannot distinguish the difference between national and descent. This is why these cats are available and to used for. When somebody says I am half this or half that he isn't talking about citizenship, rather, ethnicity (descent). You used "citizenship" on the CFD talk page but you have no idea what citizenship he holds, nor do you know whether he prefers to be English of Haitian descent, Scots of Haitian descent, English of Scots descent, Scot of English descent, Haitian of English descent etc. You can't go making assumptions when it comes to BLPs and you have been told this before. So stop it. It isn't about whether the existence of the categories is valid but about who you put in the categories. I know that we have a source where he says he is half-Haitian/half-Scots descent but that doesn't mean he identifies as primarily English. Sitush I'm sorry, are you the official spokesman for Mr. Stone? Cyrus Pallonji Mistry's case is different where he is a citizen/national of one of his parents origins. Had there been another country he grew up in that was not related to Ireland (lets say Japan), he would be Japanese (national citizen, not ethnicity) and then being of Irish and Indian descent (family origins). My argument above is the argument I am sticking with as originally intended. I can provide you a million cases on Wikipedia. Furthermore, it doesn't matter what Mr. Stone prefers; he made it public information and elaborated on his ancestry. Is he an English national? Based on the information we know, this is a yes. Is he of Scottish and Haitian origin by the way of his parents. From what we know this is true as well by the way of his Scottish father and Haitian mother. Does this make him citizens of both countries? NO. Cyrus Pallonji Mistry would be considered an ethnic Englishman because his roots are foreign. I will ask for help on this. You, too, seem to be unfortunately missing my point. I do not deny that the man says he is of half-Haitian and half-Scots descent. Neither makes him English. Savvyjack has been trying to categorise him as both English of Haitian descent and Scots of Haitian descent but those are not all of the permutations and we don't know what the guy himself says on the matter. Basically, Savvyjack is trying to hinge everything on "Haitian" because that has been, I think, on of their pet subjects. Just as we do not assume caste or religion is inherited from parents, so we should not do here unless he self-identifies a preference. I'm getting confused myself now! Does he identify as English? IIRC, he spent time in Haiti as a child; he certainly spent time in Scotland (I knew his dad, years ago, although I've never met Nick). Plenty of people are born in one place but do not consider themselves to be of it and, given the present hoo-hah regarding possible independence for Scotland, I'd be very wary of labelling him as English unless he says he is. These are all French dependancies; not independent. Its as if saying these people are no longer a part of France and are no longer French. Haiti Place Name Difficultly

Thanks so much for your help so far. I really appreciate it. Hope I didn't come of hostile during our last exchange. I am still a bit of a newbie and can get confused/frustrated sometimes. Anyways, I came into a problem with Cornillon, Cornillon, Ouest. It is the town of Cornillon in the Cornillon Municipality (Commune) in Haiti. There are locations in France called "Cornillon" so I wasn't sure if I should have named it "Cornillon, Cornillon, Ouest, Haiti" or simply "Cornillon, Haiti". The article name for the municipality (commune) is Cornillon, Ouest which IS proper form. Any ideas of what the proper naming should be for the town? No not at all Michashadders! I actually just saw your reply on your page. I didn't know you responded, I must have missed it in my watch-page feed. (Notice how I used your user name to start my sentence. It sends your a red alert saying someone is contacting you; since we are on my talk page now. Just a few tricks I've picked up along the way ;)) So I had to take a breather from updating the other day. It was getting more and more difficult. You are correct about La Source having 29 places in Haiti. That is crazy. When it gets to that point, I think we will have to add both department and Arrondissement, along with the Haiti. As for the same town name as commune (municipality) such as Cornillon. Perhaps it should end like this Cornillon, Cornillon, Ouest, Haiti. It depends though is there 29 Cornillon, Cornillon(s) like there is in "La Source?" If not maybe it can just be "Cornillon, Cornillon, Haiti." I can clearly see the difficulty trying to more-or-less "decipher" these. My advice is to try to stick with what we have planned, do your best and hopefully we can take care of these minor troubles later. If you don't mind moving some of those created pages, would be awesome. Especially if there are multiply repeated names for places, it is almost imperative that we do our best classifying them. Also, great job with your dedication geocoding lesser known locations for a GIS project on clean water. No wonder why coming on here was a breeze (lol). I'm glad you are onboard with us. Nope, as noted with the captions, and in the text, the images are of related living species, which are similar to the extinct species the articles are on. That is why I reverted you the first time. "Thriving"

Hi, I was wondering why you reverted my edits on Saint-Domingue. Yes the quotation marks does make it sound questionable. Indeed there is considerable doubt as regards the matter. Profitable yes, but only if regard the lives of the enslaved Africans as being of little value. As subsequent effects proved, these Africans did have more than doubts as to whether they were thriving and overthrew the slave owners regime. List of Haitians

I was attempting to ensure that future entries (as well as past ones) were cited when I added template cn to the "models" subsection. Each article in Wikipedia is stand-alone. We can't justify any article with either a footnote to another Wikipedia article (newbies try) or links (even you are trying, apparently!).

I think you can appreciate that I can't document article "Student7", link it to yet a second article, which in turn, links back to "List of Famous Editors". While all are linked, none of them contain any citationa at all! But even if I managed to find a WP:RS somewhere, they would have to be actually inserted into all three articles (or whatever) to make them "valid." A stranded RS somewhere does not an encyclopedia make. I don't doubt the notability. I do doubt the direct attachment to Haiti, which has been missing in the past. I don't like the idea of me looking them all up or copying them. Really up to the inserter. Thanks.

Another "little" problem for this article is whether (or not) the person is known outside of Haiti. Otherwise they should go into provincial article notables. Changing categories to mark them as containera and then immediately doing this is perhaps not a great idea. Particularly in circumstances where you have been clearly trying to push the connection for months now. Sitush I am not changing it to my liking. These are indeed container categories; just noticed it since you were the one to essentially bring me to these pages. If you'd like I'll change them all! A category like this should not have taken six months to solve. It wasn't as difficult as you tired to make it seem. If it is correct, how is that pushing?
