I have a question about languages used on pages.

Hi Safiel! Thanks for the contact. This site is very extensive and complicated so I have been hesitant to do much editing for fear of breaking something.

I was editing a page about a Japanese actress that I saw in a movie, today. The URL says https://en.wikipedia.org/... so I thought that it was logical to expect to see everything in English, but there were some links and text in Japanese and I wondered where to find the policy on that.

I deleted a link to a Japanese site (which I know can be recovered, if necessary) but I don't know if I did the wrong thing. Actually, I replaced it with an English link that I got from the movie's Wiki page.

It seems to me that this actress could have a Japanese language page - and, in fact she does. Is there a Wikipedia policy about this or what is the best practice?

BTW: this is the page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sumire_(model,_born_1990)

danindenver (talk) 01:12, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

  • @Danindenver: Foreign language source links on the English Wikipedia are fine. However, if an English link is found that provides the same verification as the foreign language link, it is proper to replace the foreign language link with an English link. However, if an English link is not available, it is perfectly fine to use foreign language links. The actress probably does have an article on the Japanese Wikipedia. Noel Francisco expansion

Thank you!! :) I'll keep an eye out for a .gov freebie picture. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 00:58, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

  • @Anna Frodesiak: Your welcome. I am surprised they don't have one at the DOJ site. Safiel (talk) 01:01, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Me too. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:01, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Plagiarism allegation

When you created the biography section on the Noel Francisco page, you blatantly plagiarized the DOJ official biography. You lifted seven whole sentences verbatim and made only the barest of cosmetic adjustments to them. I don't know if this is a violation of Wikipedia policy, but it would fail plagiarism and academic integrity standards at any university in America. Please see the talk page on the article. If this is not a violation of Wikipedia policy, then feel free to point out the appropriate Wikipedia guidelines that made your wholesale use of someone else's material acceptable. Otherwise, please try rewriting the section. Thanks. 107.145.77.108 (talk) 13:08, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

  • I have addressed this concern at Talk:Noel Francisco and will not further discuss it here. However, for the benefit of any third parties that might see this, the material in question is 100% public domain and thus no plagiarism violation exists. Again, any further discussion should be made at Talk:Noel Francisco, not here. Safiel (talk) 15:44, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your follow-up. As I said, I did not know if this was a violation of Wikipedia policy or not. 107.145.77.108 (talk) 16:09, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

US Judge Infoboxes

Hello, thank you for your feedback. Have you established any consensus in making these changes? If so, I will assist you to make the changes to SCOTUS justices. 108.52.100.147 (talk) 20:24, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

@Safiel:, thanks for your reply. I'll start editing SCOTUS justices immediately. Do you want me to add the presidents like this: Barack Obama, or simply George W. Bush? Thanks. 108.52.100.147 (talk) 10:13, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

@Safiel:, I've changed over all Chief Justices except William Howard Taft (I don't have editing access to it). Please change that one over and I'll begin on associate justices. 108.52.100.147 (talk) 20:41, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

Re:Federal Judge articles

I appreciate the heads up. When does the White House put forward the bios? I haven't seen it yet. This White House seems kind of backwards when it comes to providing information on their nominees. Snickers2686 (talk) 22:34, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

  • @Snickers2686: I have been looking for it myself, but not up yet. It SHOULD be up anytime now, but as you said, the White House has been unreliable in this regard. The articles that have been put up, such as Amy Coney Barrett were done using her law school bio and other such sources. Safiel (talk) 22:36, 8 May 2017 (UTC)
  • @Snickers2686: Also, I have cleaned up Amy Coney Barrett but none of the others yet. Safiel (talk) 22:38, 8 May 2017 (UTC)

Amy Coney Barrett full name

Hey, I have a quick biographical question for you...

I'm not familiar with the editor who created the article, but initially they had the nominee's full name listed as "Amy Vath Coney" yet with no citation or reference to said name within the article. According to the Senate Questionnaire she's only been known by two names: Amy Vivian Coney and Amy Coney Barrett. So I switched "Vath" to Vivian for the time being....I haven't been able to locate a source for "Vath". Do you know anything? Thanks in advance Snickers2686 (talk) 17:26, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

  • @Snickers2686: I am not sure where the article creator got the Vath from. I can't find anything at all for Vath. Since it says Vivian in the questionnaire, I would stick with that. Safiel (talk) 18:43, 18 May 2017 (UTC)

Hey Sir I hope everything is fine if you can review this page Seham Khaled https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seham_Khaled --FaridAbas (talk) 23:41, 16 June 2017 (UTC)

  • @FaridAbas: I am not an article reviewer. However, all new articles are automatically reviewed. It may take several days, but a reviewer will take a look at it. Safiel (talk) 01:40, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

Education vs. alma mater

Hey Safiel!

Just a quick question...I noticed you moved Claria Horn Boom's university studies from 'alma mater' to 'education' within the infobox. Does it make a difference? I always thought 'education' referred to primary, secondary school, etc and 'alma mater' referred more to a collegiate level. Just curious. I just wanted to make sure there was uniformity amongst all the federal judge articles.

Thanks. Have a good one! Snickers2686 (talk) 00:13, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

  • @Snickers2686: Primary and secondary education should never be in the infobox, regardless of field. As for college and graduate education, that is kind of nebulous. There have been several discussions on the infobox template talk pages regarding "alma mater" versus "education" and there appears to be support for both. Several users have changed many of the judge article infoboxes from alma mater to education. Since January of this year, I have been working my way through all Circuit Judge, District Judge and Trade Court Judge articles, starting with Obama and heading backwards. (I am currently on George H. W. Bush.) As part of the infobox standardization I have been doing, I have been keeping "education" were it exists and changing alma-mater to education. I frankly can't say I am right in doing so. However, there is no consensus established on Wikipedia regarding this issue. I went with education simply because the majority of the judge articles had already been changed to education and I wanted to get them all on the same page. Safiel (talk) 06:50, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
  • @Snickers2686: Since that reply, I have found a definitive policy regarding alma-mater versus education at this link, Template:Infobox_person. You have to search down that page a way to find it. Essentially, if you are including the last attended college only, with no degree information, you should use alma_mater. If you are including multiple institutions and/or including information on degrees earned, you should use education. Since we list all institutions attended and include degree information, that indicates that we should use education. I may copy this post to the WikiProject USCJ page for everybody's benefit. Safiel (talk) 23:20, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
  • @Safiel:: After skimming through it, that makes sense. It alludes to including the graduation year as well, Education, e.g., degree, institution and graduation year, if relevant. If very little information is available or relevant... Should that be included too, do you think? Snickers2686 (talk) 23:26, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
  • @Snickers2686: I personally haven't been including the year, but you might want to try it on a few articles and see how it goes. I would just try it on the Donald Trump judge articles for the time being and see what kind of feedback you get, either positive or negative. Safiel (talk) 23:32, 17 June 2017 (UTC)

Alabama federal judge nominees

Hey, Quick question. The Alabama nominations of Terry F. Moorer, Annemarie Carney Axon and Liles C. Burke haven't been officially transferred to the Senate, only announced, right? I haven't found them on any official record as of yet. Snickers2686 (talk) 00:35, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: I believe you are correct, I don't believe they have been sent over yet. Safiel (talk) 00:37, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: I confirmed on congress.gov that Terry F. Moorer still has not been sent to the Senate yet. Won't know for certain about today's announcements until tomorrow on congress.gov. Safiel (talk) 01:05, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Safiel: Well according to the nominations the White House says they sent to the Senate, I don't see any Alabama nominee on there. Snickers2686 (talk) 01:54, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: I agree. Safiel (talk) 01:55, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Safiel: Oh, just one other question and then I'll get out of your hair. Is there any consensus on which infobox we're supposed to use for new articles, is it the officeholder one or the one for a judge? I've been using the judge one typically but then I notice that another editor will condense it down to the officeholder version. I just want to make sure I'm using the correct infobox. Snickers2686 (talk) 02:14, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: It should be Infobox judge. It is actually a fork of Infobox officeholder, but the documentation at the main template says to use the most appropriate title, i.e. Infobox judge, Infobox ambassador, Infobox representative, etc. Safiel (talk) 02:16, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: For your convenience, their is a "clean" copy of the template at User:Safiel/Infobox judge, which I derived from the contents of Template:Infobox officeholder. Safiel (talk) 02:20, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of {{Persondata}}

Hi Safiel,

I'm the bot who is deleting {{Persondata}}. I noticed your edit on User:Polbot/fjc/Kenneth Francis Ripple in which you added {{Persondata}}. This template is deprecated and deleted. Please stop adding {{Persondata}}. In case you want to support the Persondata project you can help with the migration of the dataset to Wikidata at KasparBot's tool. See Wikipedia:Persondata or contact my operator T.seppelt in case you have any questions.

Thank you very much, -- KasparBot (talk) 01:00, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

  • Comment Just a note for any human that might see the above bot notification. The addition was caused by my reversion of an errant redirect set up at that location and my subsequent marking of that location for deletion. The persondata template had never been removed from that draft article. Safiel (talk) 01:03, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Thank You

I noticed that you recently reverted the redirect pages I previously created at User:Polbot/fjc/Stephen S. Trott, User:Polbot/fjc/Emory Marlin Sneeden, and User:Polbot/fjc/Kenneth Francis Ripple, and I wanted to thank you for doing that, because in retrospect, it occurred to me that I should have just nominated those pages for deletion. After receiving the alerts relating to your reverts, I double-checked my recent edit history for other instances in which I might have created similar redirect pages, and although I did not come across any further instances, I would encourage you to continue correcting any similar pages you may come across in the future.--TommyBoy (talk) 04:14, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

FYI

Hey, Just wanted to let you know I knocked all the recent district court and circuit court nominees that Trump nominated yesterday. I'm in the process of finishing up the Tax Court nominee now.

There seems to be an editor who has an issue with A. Marvin Quattlebaum Jr.; he/she feels it isn't notable that they were nominated for a district court seat. The discussion is currently going on in the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/A. Marvin Quattlebaum Jr. page and to me, all nominees have been given an article, even if they don't become a judge. I'm really at a loss as to what more this person wants. Maybe you can take a look? Thanks for the help. Have a great weekend! Snickers2686 (talk) 20:38, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

  • @Snickers2686: Thanks for the heads up, on my way to comment in the AfD. Safiel (talk) 21:12, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

US Judge Succession boxes

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Template:USRepSuccessionBox and Template:U.S. Senator box, but they are helpful additions to the legislative branch succession boxes. I think a template like that would a nice addition to Wikipedia:WikiProject United States courts and judges. Would you be interested in working with me to make a template like that? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 00:58, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: We currently use the {{s-legal}} for Judges in the succession boxes. I am not sure if something more specific is needed. In any event, I don't really know how code templates, beyond the occasional hack. However, I would appreciate it if you keep me updated on anything you might come up with and I will be happy to give feedback. Safiel (talk) 01:08, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
    • @Safiel: I'm aware that {{s-legal}} is the header. I'm talking about
{{s-bef|before=[[Boyce F. Martin Jr.]]}}
{{s-ttl|title={{nowrap|Judge of the [[United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit]]}}|years=2017–present}}
{{s-inc}}

. Improving that would make the project's job a lot easier. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 01:24, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: I see what you are getting at. Again, probably not much I can help you with on the coding side, but please keep me informed what you come up with and I will give feedback. Safiel (talk) 01:32, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

John K. Bush

A user recently made edits to John K. Bush that modified the lede significantly to give more coverage to his, for lack of a better word, controversial political views. It contains a lot of content that is already present in the body of the article at the same amount of depth with no elaboration. Do you think the article should be changed? On a side note, thank you for participating in the RFC over the stops in the infoboxes. It's good that we don't have to take this to edit warring. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 00:53, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Safiel, I saw that you tagged the article as having undue weight. I recently made a content proposal on the talk page and I'm wondering if you have any feedback on my proposal, and if you think my suggested edits would address your concerns about weight. Also pinging @JocularJellyfish: for your feedback as well. Thanks! Marquardtika (talk) 22:27, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Richard W. Roberts

The sources cited in the Richard W. Roberts article, as well as all other sources I've seen, all say that Roberts retired. I can't find anything anywhere to corroborate him having taken inactive senior status instead. Do you have a source that we can cite? Also pinging @Snickers2686: I'd previously reverted his edits to the same effect as yours, for the same reason. Thanks! - Nellis 00:12, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

  • @Nellis: The one source that matters most of all, FJC Bio, https://www.fjc.gov/history/judges/roberts-richard-w. , indicates that he took senior status but does not list him as officially retiring. And the term "retirement" is often used by sources in its colloquial, rather than legal sense. He is retired in the sense that he is no longer actively working as a judge, but he has not legally retired. Safiel (talk) 00:20, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
  • Note If the above link does not work for you, add a period to the end, sometimes the software cuts the trailing period. Safiel (talk) 00:21, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
  • Thanks much. I've added the citation. And apologies to Snickers2686. - Nellis 00:28, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of Claremont Rug Company page

Hello Safiel, When updating the Bakshaish, Caucasian, Sultanabad pages I added in information for Claremont Rug Company's Rug Type Guide pages which provides scholarly information on the origin, colors, design, and rich history of these Persian Rugs. My intention was not to advertise or promote Claremont Rug Company but to give reference to where the information came from. Our page has now been deleted and I request that it please be restored and in the future, I will not add written content to corresponding pages from our website. My intention was to provide more educational information about these types of rugs to enhance the user experience when searching through Wikipedia for these rug types and then reference the source not to promote our website. Thank you, Rug Connoisseur 09/20/17Rug Connoisseur (talk) 01:13, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

@Rug Connoisseur: I should note that I am not a Wikipedia Administrator and cannot restore any pages. Also, these deletions took place over three years ago and my involvement in them was very minor. I am not able to provide you any help. I suggest you try to locate the deleting administrator and contact him. Safiel (talk) 02:20, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

Sandra Day O'Connor

The Supreme Court's Webpage (which is the authoritative source) states that a Justice's term begins when they take the oath of office (as opposed to the date of the commission). In Justice O'Connor's case, September 25 is the accurate date. I reverted your change and added the reference. JTRH (talk) 01:56, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

@JTRH: I am not going to oppose you on this, although I heavily disagree and have numerous arguments to make to the contrary. However, this general issue has been under off and on discussion for some time and I hope to arrange for a minor change to Template:Infobox judge that will allow us to resolve this matter by providing both for a term start (commission) field and a service start (oath) field. Hopefully, I can get to that in the mid October timeframe once I finish the current task I have going of rewriting a large table. But to avoid further discussion at this time, I will not oppose your edit or similar edits at this time. Safiel (talk) 02:16, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm just saying, if the Supreme Court says the 25th, it's hard to argue otherwise. JTRH (talk) 02:18, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
@JTRH: Your welcome. If your interested, here is a discussion we had on the topic a couple of months ago. Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_United_States_courts_and_judges#Start_date_in_Supreme_Court_Justices_infoboxes . Safiel (talk) 02:24, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
@Safiel: I'm basing it on the following, which I used in the cite for the change on the O'Connor article: "The date a Member of the Court took his/her Judicial oath (the Judiciary Act provided “That the Justices of the Supreme Court, and the district judges, before they proceed to execute the duties of their respective offices, shall take the following oath . . . ”) is here used as the date of the beginning of his/her service, for until that oath is taken he/she is not vested with the prerogatives of the office." Appointer or Nominator?

Please take a look at Joan Larsen and tell me whether the project is going to use the "appointer" or "nominator" parameter for all federal judges. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 00:59, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

@JocularJellyfish: While both terms have been used, appointer is by far the greater usage. I have changed the article accordingly. In explanation, the President has two formal actions in regard to a nominee, the nomination and later the appointment. I believe the appointment to be the far more significant of the two actions. There are some rare situation where both nominator and appointer are used, but that is almost exclusively in conjunction with state judges, particularly where a judicial nominating commission "nominates" and a governor "appoints." But at the Federal level, it should be appointer only, at least in my considered opinion. Safiel (talk) 06:36, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Requested move of Jeffrey C. Mateer

Please see the discussion on Talk:Jeffrey C. Mateer. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 01:26, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I just have a question regarding the person/article.

The article says he retired in 2004 (with no citation) but according to his FJC profile it says "Assumed senior status on March 8, 1991" but mentions nothing of a retirement. Is it possible he was on inactive status until his death? I didn't make any changes to the infobox regarding his term in senior status, I wanted to verify first before I changed anything. Snickers2686 (talk) 15:27, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

@Snickers2686: Yes, it appears he was in inactive senior status. Might want to put a blurb to that effect in the body of the article as well. Safiel (talk) 17:56, 6 December 2017 (UTC)

Donald Trump judicial appointment controversies

I created Donald Trump judicial appointment controversies being as several of his nominees have been of contention, i.e. L. Steven Grasz, Amy Coney Barrett. And now with the withdraw requests of Brett Talley and Jeff Mateer--I think the article makes sense to create and maintain.

However, it has been nominated for deletion and I'd like your viewpoint on the matter. (See:Afd:Donald Trump judicial appointment controversies). Snickers2686 (talk) 18:00, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

New Nominees

You've probably seen the news already, but Trump has put out some more judicial nominees with articles that need to be created. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 02:36, 21 December 2017 (UTC)

@JocularJellyfish: Just a note. I have been rather inactive as of late, particularly since October. Frankly, it is Wikipedia burnout and I have been taking an extended break, with very minimal number of edits. I probably will resume a regular level of Wikipedia activity by the second week of January. But it was time for me to take a break from Wikipedia. Safiel (talk) 19:37, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
@Safiel: take all the time you need. Whenever you come back to editing, we need you at 100%! – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 16:47, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for January 5

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Murray Gurfein, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Columbia College (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Trump Judges Article Formatting

At List of federal judges appointed by Donald Trump, did you want the picture of Gorsuch structured gallery-style? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 20:18, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: I think that would be best. It is consistent with the way I am setting up all the list articles in the series. Eventually, more notable Trump nominee's will be pictured. With that in mind, I think a gallery centered format would be best. Safiel (talk) 23:35, 31 January 2018 (UTC)
@Safiel: @AmYisroelChai: changed the article back to the thumbnail format because it messes up the formatting in their view. Could you explain (I'm not well-versed in these issues) why you think the gallery style is better? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 02:28, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
@JocularJellyfish: Lemme think on this. I may try doing a centered thumbstyle format rather than gallery, that might solve the problem. However, sooner or later, those pictures have to be centered below the lead and not down the side. With the new Trump sidebar, they push the tables too far down the page if they simply are placed down the side as has been done in the past. I will look at the formatting tools a bit later and see what I can arrange. Safiel (talk) 02:45, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
@Safiel: is there a way to collapse the sidebar more than it already is to save on space without editing it and effecting its view on every page? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 02:47, 1 February 2018 (UTC)
@JocularJellyfish: It probably could be made collapsible, but have no idea how to do so. I have never really messed with template editing. But I am sure somebody could probably arrange to make it collapsible to some degree. Safiel (talk) 03:08, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

The problem with putting the picture in the middle as a gallery is that the hovercard for the page then shows Trumps signature from the sidebar instead of the pic for some reason so if you could fix that i dont mind if its in the middle on Bush's page it just shows the beginning of the article if the picture is moved עם ישראל חי (talk) 14:51, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Justices and Senior Status

Good evening! I just wanted to give you a heads up about a contentious topic that doesn't seem to be going away, Supreme Court Justices and senior status --do we acknowledge it in Presidential tables (i.e. Judges appointed by (insert name)) tables or don't we? I did a ping earlier but I'm not sure if it worked. The relevant discussion is here. Feel free to add to the discussion. I'm just tired of the reverts and re-reverts and constant back and forth so I'm trying to reach a consensus. If there's any other editors you think would benefit from the discussion, please let them know. Thanks! Snickers2686 (talk) 02:43, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

  • @Snickers2686: It definitely should be included in the tables. I will chime in for the discussion shortly. Not sure why that guy has an issue with it.Safiel (talk) 03:53, 6 February 2018 (UTC)

Donald Eugene O'Brien

Please take a look at his entry on List of federal judges appointed by Jimmy Carter. He was appointed to both N.D. Iowa and S.D. Iowa and that seems to be throwing the termination date of senior status off. One of the dates isn't showing up at all due some kind of formatting issue I think. I tried to fix it to no avail. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 03:32, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: The problem is because of a limitation with the align template. Unfortunately, it can't be used in the middle of an table cell entry, as I attempted to do. I have fixed it, but it means the date in that cell will be centered along with the en-dash. Safiel (talk) 03:45, 10 February 2018 (UTC)
@Safiel: Oh well. That's better than it was before. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 03:46, 10 February 2018 (UTC)

List of federal judges appointed by Lyndon B. Johnson

I must say you've been doing a phenomenal job on the presidential list articles. I do think there's a problem with this specific page, however. The note "See List of United States district and territorial courts" which is present in the bottom of every article isn't on this one, even though the "notes" section is present. Is there something wrong with the footnote grouping? – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 03:33, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: Fixed. The issue was with another reference group tag that was capturing that reference at the wrong location. Fixed now. Safiel (talk) 03:48, 11 March 2018 (UTC)

Image to upload

The State Justice Institute's website has an image of John B. Nalbandian on this page. He will likely be confirmed to the Sixth Circuit next week, and this image will probably be removed from the site soon thereafter as he will leave the position. Could you please upload the image (I don't have any experience with the process) sometime soon and add it to his page? Thanks. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 01:07, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

  • @JocularJellyfish: Unfortunately, it appears to be a no go. No way to verify the origin of the photograph and the photograph is unlikely to be compliant with the requirements of PD-USGov. Wikimedia Commons is notoriously anal retentive about images meeting requirements. Zero chance I could get that photo cleared over there. There is a reason why so many of our articles lack photo's and that is the difficultly in finding compliant photo's. And it is even harder when the subject is still alive, because personality rights issues come into play. Sorry about that. I have learned this the hard way, having had a few of my uploads deleted for this and that. Safiel (talk) 01:23, 5 May 2018 (UTC)

Possible Image(s) to Upload

Please check out this link and see if the image can be uploaded. I appreciate your help! – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 12:57, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

I have another picture for you at this link. – JocularJellyfish TalkContribs 12:59, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

@JocularJellyfish: The first picture is a no go, Ohio is very restrictive of copyright on their state works. Unfortunately, I believe Florida is the only State that openly releases their photos to the public domain. The second picture is fine, I have just uploaded it to commons and included it in the article. Safiel (talk) 15:21, 8 June 2018 (UTC)

BLP and Trump

I think Wikipedia:Crying "BLP!" is relevant here. Obviously, mildly inflammatory comments in a contentious debate should be avoided, I get that, but the pertinent point to me is "Looking at the history of WP:BLP, contentious material is primarily that, if untrue, would clearly cause harm to the subject." Everything I have said about Trump is true and documented in multiple, independent reliable sources, and if he feels harmed by robust criticism at an identical level to what he publicly broadcasts to millions of people, then he shouldn't have sought public office. As I understand it, BLP was designed to protect potential libel and defamation of not particularly well-known people. However, I do make a point of going nowhere near Trump-related articles because I don't feel I can edit them while adhering to a neutral point of view. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:45, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

  • @Ritchie333: I don't think you actually crossed the BLP line with your comments you made, but you were getting close. I was basically just admonishing to be cautious going forward. I am not exactly a big fan of Trump either and there are articles like Donald Trump and David Hogg (activist) that I would be personally cautious in editing because of my highly negative views of the subject.
