HEY SL93- could you help me get my page approved - it keeps getting rejected - apparently it sounds like an article and isnt correct for this forum. You declined it about 2 days ago - if you could point me in the right direction on which bit needs changing and where i am going wrong, it would be greatly appreciated - This is the 6th time i have tried to get the article approved just feel like i am going around in circles when the whole article appears factual and has links to back it up.

This came from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, which hosts almost 100% of the state's forms; if you have any interest in writing other National Register articles for Indiana, I can explain how to use the site. A picture being requested for a hook does not guarantee that the picture will be used. With how many hooks that have pictures and how many reviewed articles there are at each given time, it would be impossible to update the prep areas if every picture was added. There is only one picture slot in each prep area. I can't fix the issue by adding hooks in the prep areas randomly. Each prep area needs fair representation of a topic compared to other topics. The GA bot didn't notify you, but it was supposed to. The article needs a major copy edit from top to bottom, which is why I suggested for you to get help from someone who is part of the league of copy editors. SL93 (talk) 06:03, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

First, the bot has always notified Good Article nominators and has did so for a long time, so you can't fault me for that. Second, I don't know if you are mad at me for failing the article, but you shouldn't be if you are. A Good Article reviewer does not have to point out all of the prose problems when the article needs a major copy edit from top to bottom. It is at least expected for every part of the criteria to, at the very least, be close to passing. In this article's case, the writing in the article is not close to passing. I will complete the copy edit for you. Even though reviewers cannot edit an article significantly during the review, a copy edit should be fine. I do not see this article as suffering from an "extreme lack of information". In fact, its breadth parallels that of a recognized good article, Knut Arild Hareide. As I said before, I will not reopen the nomination and you are free to contest it. You are forgetting the criterion "broad in its coverage". Simply saying what political party he is part of and what his positions are is not enough. As shown in your first example, that article does go into detail about those things. The other article is about a launch site. My point is that every topic needs their own type of coverage. I don't think it was appropriate to close that, especially if you read my last comment. As I noted there, I had initiated an RfC to try and resolve the main sticking point with the article. The reason for nothing going on with the nom is because I was waiting for the outcome. The RfC period just ended today, without a clear consensus for or against the Commons link. Obviously, that means the default choice is to keep it out. It may be a prolonged period of discussion, but we've had longer DYK discussions. Your point about it being rejected is not entirely valid. One of those rejecting it was an involved editor who insisted, without sufficient evidence, that the subject should be characterized as a porn star rather than an artist. Another cited a POV tag that is no longer on the article. Finally, there was a claim from an IP that was essentially disregarding WP:NOTCENSORED. In contrast, three editors actually approved the article during that time and three others raised reasonable concerns that could or have been addressed (two objected to the edit-warring, which was over the link that the RfC discussed). Only the last comment by Blue Moonset covered issues that would be present issues, I think. Could you please re-open the discussion?--The Devil's Advocate _{tlk. cntrb.} 21:50, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I think that it was entirely appropriate for me to close that. I posted my closure on the DYK talk page for everyone to view, but no one has raised any concerns except yourself. For that reason, I especially think that my closure was not incorrect. SL93 (talk) 21:53, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Before I even consider opening the discussion, were any of BlueMoonset's concerns addressed? He posted there a while back and if those were not addressed, there is no indication that they will ever be addressed. Will you address them yourself? Just because someone requests an image does not mean that it will for sure be promoted. Editors who update the prep areas need to have a mix of subjects in each prep area and to do that, some images need to be left out if there is a lack of reviewed nominations. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello SL93. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

Prep building

Hi, I notice you've been helping out with prep building lately, and want to say that it's really appreciated. I'd like to mention that we try to alternate biographies and non-biographical hooks when they're available. Most of the preps you've built are largely lacking on the bio hooks. Thanks for all you do! You didn't say anything really out of line. Compared to other !votes I have seen in the past, I think you were quite civil. In fact, I appreciate the depth of research that went into your keep !vote. Its always a bit of a culture shock for newbies when a Wikipedia editor calls them out personally, especially when they previously conceived of Wikipedia as a faceless entity that magically turns out articles—something akin to Sinbad's rude awakening on his first voyage. I remember the feeling, hence I occasionally check the edit histories of unfamiliar Wikipedians. But besides that, there's not much that can be done about wikiculture shock.
