Could you please review the article for Template Talk: Did You Know? I added an alternate hook for the article there. Thanks.--LAAFan 23:18, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

I'll be sure to do so that after I nominate the Joe Connor article Wizardman (talk · contribs) and me have been working on. The article is actually Wikipedia's 2,500,000th article created so it would be great to have this article on the main page. :-D -- RyRy (talk) 23:22, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Done.[1] That hook is much more interesting than the other one, and the length, date and reference have been verified, so I have Approved it. :-) Keep it up LAAFan! -- RyRy (talk) 23:45, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. Also, great work on creating Wikipedia's 2,500,000's article!--LAAFan 01:40, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, thanks. I didn't necessarily "create" it, I expanded it when it was created by Wizardman as a stub. It has been approved and will appear on the Main Page in a few days. :-) -- RyRy (talk) 02:27, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

DYK contributions

I can't really comment on your own articles, because I rarely have time to read them, I usually just scan them for obvious problems.

As far as next update preparation, you seem to be doing okay. The basic thing is just to ensure there's enough variety there, nice balance of US and foreign hooks, one or two bio hooks, interleave longer hooks with shorter ones etc etc. One thing I personally like to do is use a quirky, funny or lighthearted hook for the last one, the same way a news bulletin ends with a lighthearted little story. It's a method of leaving people with a positive feeling about DYK and hopefully the interest to come back and read it again the next day. Gatoclass (talk) 08:26, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Thankyou for those kind comments RyRy. For the record, I think from what I've seen of your contributions that you are improving as an editor too :) Gatoclass (talk) 08:44, 14 August 2008 (UTC)
How about that :) Good for you for the expansion, I guess I will have to go out of the way to read the article now. I can't help thinking though, that there ought to be some sort of note on milestone articles regarding their special status - although in some cases I guess that might prove to be embarrassing ;) Gatoclass (talk) 10:27, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

DYK: Larry Gowell

Updated DYK query On 14 August, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Larry Gowell, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

--PFHLai (talk) 16:06, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Setting the bar a little high?

"I would suggest 4000+ edits with a good amount of quality edits in them. A few WP:DYKs/WP:GAs/WP:FAs would be nice also, along with some participation in adminly areas (WP:XFD, WP:AIV, WP:UAA, WP:RFPP, ect)." – don't you think that's setting the bar waaaay too high? The edit count aside, I would even now only meet two of your seven criteria, and those weakly (a few GAs and the very occasional post at XFD). DYK in particular has no relevance whatsoever to ability, being based solely on the ability to create stubs despite any other potential problems (see User talk:Billy Hathorn, for example); I'd wager at least 90% of admins and established editors have never once submitted anything to it nor ever will. – iridescent 21:18, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Now that I think twice about it... I see the problem. I was only throwing out things that popped in my head. I would be more than willing to strike that comment. I wouldn't want to encourage something that wouldn't help the candidate. Thanks, RyRy (talk)
No problem – I just don't like people being given the impression that admins are some kind of superhuman race with experience everywhere, as it puts off legitimate candidates from applying whilst encouraging the huggle-drones. (Not an attack on Huggle, just on some of its more "overenthusiastic" users). – iridescent 21:35, 14 August 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ryan, do you review the channel, "The N." If you do, do you watch it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by iMatthew (talkcontribs)

I'm not sure where I would have to "review" it... do you mind elaborating? Thanks, RyRy (talk) 18:52, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
It's a TV channel called "The N." I was thinking of starting a WikiProject for it, and you would be the perfect partner if you watch the channel and it's shows. -- iMatthew T.C.
Heh, well I don't watch it, but I'll happy to help if needed. -- RyRy (talk) 18:55, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

There was never a company called the Harlem Valley Railroad; the New York and Harlem Railroad built and operated the line up the Harlem Valley. I have redirected your article to the correct name; you may wish to move any history that's not in the NY&H article. --NE2 17:46, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Oh, heh. I created the article from a link I found in one of User:Daniel Case's creations. I should have looked more into it before I created it as an article... it's better off redirecting. I'll try to move the history to the article some time. Regards, RyRy (talk) 18:52, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
You complete and utter... ;) No worries, could happen to anyone. Although it is the first time we've featured a redirect as the primary article at DYK! :) PeterSymonds (talk) 02:46, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

<-- PeterSymonds! Thank goodness your online (shouldn't you be sleeping?). I'm almost done with DYK. Meh, 2 hours late. <_< Do you have time to update it? I'll do the article talk page credits if you'd like. ^_^ -- RyRy (talk) 02:48, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Sure. Make sure you check the Main Page balance though (the preview link to today's MP). Half the DYK is missing at the moment...it probably needs 9-10 hooks again. PeterSymonds (talk) 02:52, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Scrap that. I'm removing the oldest headline from ITN; that should free up some space. 8-9 hooks then. :) PeterSymonds (talk) 02:54, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Alright PeterSymonds. I checked the Main page balance, and it looks even. You can go ahead and update it. I'll be doing article talk page credits. ^_^ -- RyRy (talk) 03:09, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
You saw no whitespace under the preview? I saw a quarter of the DYK missing. I've added two more hooks; the first was your suggestion which you undid at T:DYK/N, and the second-from-bottom was a selfnom by Casliber (talk · contribs). Would you mind doing the article talk credits as well? I'm going to do the archive and then go to bed! I'll be on for the next 10 mins so if you see any problems with the template, now would be the time. :) Thanks for updating, PeterSymonds (talk) 03:25, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, to be honest, I didn't know what I was supposed to look at in the preview. :P I thought if it looked good, then go ahead. :P And yup, I'm currently doing article talk page credits, and I've cleared T:DYK/N for you. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 03:28, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

(←) Ah, I see, sorry. Basically when I say Main Page balance, I mean how well the boxes around the template are coordinated. Sometimes the TFA slot can be longer/shorter than expected, thus requiring the ITN and the DYK to be expanded to accommodate it. You should also check for whitespace beneath the last hook on the DYK. Generally the template should look full (or nearly full), otherwise it makes the page look tacky. Not so good for the 7th most popular website in the world, ;) But that's what I meant by balance. Right, well, thanks for your help! I'm off. :) Night, PeterSymonds (talk) 03:34, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Let's see if this one can avoid being turned into a redirect to an existing article, shall we? ;) Great work! Nice to see a milestone on the Main Page; it happens less often than it should. Keep up the good work! PeterSymonds (talk) 23:33, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, thanks. :) The 2,500,000th article of Wikipedia is on the Main Page! And I helped. :P -- RyRy (talk) 03:33, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Design Help

As you can see, my user page is in need of some serious help. I have few preconceived notions of what it should look like, although I can say that I do like the CSS-style rollups that hide groups of info (not a requirement, though). If you have a new design idea you're looking to try out, I'm game. Can't guarantee I'll love it, but I certainly appreciate any attempt you can make. Assuming you're available and willing, that is.... Thanks in advance!  Frank  |  talk  01:26, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Sure, and yes, I did have a design in mind. I already used it on an administrator's user page on another Wikipedia, though, but I did recently design it. The design I was thinking of was this. Would you like that design? If not, I wouldn't mind. :) Thanks, RyRy (talk) 03:33, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
That has possibilities. I'm interested in the tabs especially, and I love the font. I'd like the color scheme to be the same on all the tabs, though. (I'm sure that's minor.) I would also like some different pages, but I guess that's easy too; in particular, I'd like user | talk | dashboard | projects (where I would list stuff I'm interested in and/or working on). Do you have any other possibilities you're fond of (or wanting to try out now)? Thanks -  Frank  |  talk  03:57, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Just a note: Wherever tab your at, is when the tab color is going to change. If your o your user page, the user page tab will be blue only, if your at your talk page, the talk page tab will be blue only, ect. Will you still like the tabs the same color wherever page you go to (it's doable)? By the way, I'm going to be on a semi-wikibreak, so I'll be a bit inactive and I don't know when I'm going to get to you. I don't really have any other suggestions, but I am planning to add a bottom bar at the bottom of your talk page (you'll see ;) ). Also, if you wouldn't mind, I add a little attribution somewhere on the user page somewhere, just so people know who designed it. I hope you don't mind that being there. Thanks, RyRy Public (talk) 04:07, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
All is cool, and I'd even insist on an attribution. Whenever you can get to it is fine. Regarding the colors, I didn't really mean the tabs themselves, but the color scheme in the page. One of them had yellow when the rest were blue; I was just looking for a bit more consistency. I am confident whatever you do will be great. I just need some order and a nice clean look. I don't need fancy. Thanks!  Frank  |  talk  04:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)
Alright, I'll do my best. And your welcome. :) Thanks, RyRy Public (talk) 04:35, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit?

Hey. I've just noticed that you're listed on the WP:PRV page for copyediting and I was wondering if you could please copyedit the 30 Rock article please. Thanks for any help possible -- [User]Jamie JCA[Talk] 14:27, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi there. Honestly, I would, but I just don't have the time these days. I may take a look over it, but I am not sure if I will do much, if any work at all. I would suggest asking someone else at WP:PRV for more assistance. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 00:50, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

thank you and want opinion.

Dear ryry thanks for the opinion, and I would like your opinion on something.

My only intention to contribute to WIKI was for the following purpose to edut Amanda Beard's page so that it reflects the Micheal Phelps insult. I did it in a polite, well written way with verifiable news sources from teh mainstream media, how can they just take it down citing content?

Here is exactly what I wrote (can you insert this into the page as you are a moderator ?).

== 2008 Beijing Olympics Micheal Phelps Insult Controversy ==

After her Olympic performance, Amanda Beard was interviewed by Tuscon Arizona radio
station KRQ 93.7 FM on the Johnjay and Rich Show. The hosts of the program asked
if Amada was romantically linked to 8 time olympic gold medal swimmer Micheal Phelps.

Beard, responded with extremely rude and disparaging remarks about the olympian by saying the
following: "Eww, that's nasty!"She went on to furthur insult Phelps by
saying: "Come on, I have really good taste." and "He's not really my type."
After facing public backlash , Beard retracted her statements. <ref>http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0808/20/sbt.01.html</ref>

The <pre> tags used above have been added by RyRy.

No, sorry, but I can't add it. It's your work, and I wouldn't want to add it for you as my own even if you asked someone else to do it. Just wait until your autoconfirmed (assuming that your the requester at the help desk) then you'll be free to add it yourself. If others remove it, there would usually be a good reason regarding why they removed it. If not, bringing it up on the article's talk page wold be best. I'm not this "moderator" you speak of, just a normal editor like everyone else. Also, if I replied at the Wikipedia:Help desk it would have been better to reply there so the community could help. I understand you want my answer to this, but the community as a whole is more knowledgeable then me. :) Thanks, RyRy (talk) 00:33, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Just looking over RyRy's page, but I don't see any particular need to add it. What does it contribute to the article except to state that not everybody likes phelps? That can be said about everybody including every single one of People Magazine's most eligible bachelors.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 16:54, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Ryan - thanks for the redesign of my pages! I have a couple of questions: 1) Can you get the dashboard page and/or set me up a blank template to use? It's a lowercase "d" for that page. 2) Do you think the tabs can be done with a template and an argument saying which one is the current tab? Seems like that would be easier in the long run for adding a page. I've done a small bit of work on templates (not here); maybe we could work that out for the future.

Thanks again!

 Frank  |  talk  18:00, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Your welcome. :) Regarding the dashboard, might I suggest instead using the Admin dashboard? Looks useful for administrators to use, and it will be under the "dashboard" tag (and I'll fix that lowercase "d"). Well, I'm not quite sure what your referring to. Do you want the tabs in a template instead in your userspace? Or do you want something to tell you which tab your at? Whatever tab your at will turn light blue, by the way. -- RyRy (talk) 18:08, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

RyRy, I come to you for a request of a copy edit of the lead of this list, and to gage your thoughts towards a potential FL nomination to it. Thanks! --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 19:20, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

Finally, a copyedit request related to baseball! :) Something I'm actually good at. ^_^ I'll do so right-away when I'm finished creating Mike Cather and nominating it for WP:DYK. I'll do my best. Thanks! -- RyRy (talk) 19:24, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, that works. Its a short lead. Inital thoughts are they are going to complain that the table isn't sortable, but I didn't need rows and rows of Kingdome listed over and over again, so I merged the cells, which if I recall, makes it so you can't sort lists because of the merged cell. --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 19:28, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
All done and nominated. I'll see what I can do with your request. In the meantime, since you did review one of my DYK noms before, do you mind reviewing Mike Cather? It should be under the "August 23rd" section. Thanks! -- RyRy (talk) 19:47, 23 August 2008 (UTC)
done and thanks! --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 20:31, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

I saw the copyedit, thank you very much, though do you think the list has a chance at WP:FLC? --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 08:03, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, I have absolutely zero experience with the FLC process... but there's no harm in trying. I say go for it! -- RyRy (talk) 08:08, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay then :p, do I need to bold anything in the lead... it looks... plain at the moment. --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 08:10, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I looked at a few nominations at WP:FLC, and a lot of them have nothing that is bold in the lead, so I assume not. I'm not exactly positive if something is supposed to be bolded or not. Well, if you nominate it, and something has to be bolded in the lead, someone would probably notice and bring it up to attention during the nomination. I would just go with that for now. If nothing comes up, then there's probably nothing to bold. ;-) I doubt, though, that anything has to be bolded in lists like this one your planning to nominate. -- RyRy (talk) 08:20, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I saw the same thing. Its up now at Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/List of Seattle Mariners Opening Day starting pitchers. Thanks again. --Admrb♉ltz (tclog) 08:25, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I noticed that on recent changes... so I guess I'll watch it. Not sure I should !vote as per WP:COI; you and me liking baseball. I'll comment here and there if needed though. And your welcome. :) -- RyRy (talk) 08:29, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Possible Error

I'm really not sure if I'm giving this information to the right person/entity. I just got some kind of warning that I made an nonconstructive edit to a page. The only probably is that I've never made an edit to any page, and I've never been to the page in question. I'm really not concerned about it or anything, I just don't want to get like, banned from wikipedia or something, cause that would suck. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.50.190.232 (talk) 02:41, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Since you are editing under an IP address, multiple people can use and edit under it. The person who made this edit is probably not you, but someone else using your IP address, as they change from time to time. I would assume good faith and suspect that the user who made this edit is not you. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. So don't worry, you won't get blocked and you certainly won't be banned as long as you are not disruptive (i.e causing vandalism, ect) and that you edit positively. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 07:35, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Review

Before you run, you might want to review my essay on How to pass an RfA. Also, if you accept my nom and want a co-nom, I advise against more than 1 or 2 other noms. 2 noms is best, 3 is starting to be too many, 4 IS too many. Finally, when you accept, make sure you have 2-4 hours to watch the RfA to respond to questions. Take them seriously. Answer them completely and if they are vague, explain your rationale. Anyways, you look good. Good luck.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Balloonman, I'm flattered with the nomination, but I would like to think about this for a while. I hope that won't be a problem for you. By the way, in your nomination, you say, "RyRy regularly makes non-admin closures on RfA's and I haven't seen any where I disagree with his rationale to do so.'' This is false, I have never closed an RfA. I think you meant WP:AFD? Anywho, It'll take me some time to think about this. I'll be sure to notify you about it when I have made a decision. Again, many thanks for the nomination, I do appreciate it. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 20:10, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Ooops, I did mean AFD's... please take your time. There is no rush, in fact, taking your time might be a wise thing to do. If you want somebody else to nom you (eg you reject my nom) I won't take it personally. Nom's are about the candidate, so they should be at the candidates time and choosing by the person the candidates wishes to do so. Just know that I already see you as an admin, eventhough you don't currently have the tools...that is ultimately ---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 20:58, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I've been thinking for a while, and to my conclusion, I have decided to accept your nomination Balloonman, and I thank you for nominating me in the first place. Though, I would have to wait for Useight's co-nom, as he said he would do so when the time comes. Just give me some time to answer the questions, and then you can transclude the RfA. Also, should I wait for Useight to co-nom or should I transclude the RfA first then wait for the co-nom? Thanks, RyRy (talk) 22:04, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I can go ahead and write a co-nom if you like. If you want me to do so, don't transclude the RFA until I have finished writing it. Useight (talk) 22:28, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Heh, I assume you were watching my page? Anyway, sure, go right ahead, but do you mind waiting until I answer the questions? I'm nearly finished in the most part... -- RyRy (talk) 22:30, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I've been watching this page for a long time. Okay, I'll start writing it in my sandbox and will tweak it and copy it in after you answer the questions. Useight (talk) 22:32, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

RyRy!! I'd be honored to also put in a co-nom. I've been waiting for this for a while. Would that be a problem? -- iMatthew T.C. 22:34, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Matthew, I'm flattered you would like to nominate me also, but I think two is enough at the moment, so I think Balloonman and Useight are enough nominations. But thank you so kindly, I greatly appreciate it. And to Useight: Go right ahead. -- RyRy (talk) 22:36, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I have written my co-nom. It can be found at User:Useight/Sandbox. I may add a couple more sentences to it, but it's pretty much ready. Useight (talk) 23:30, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
The questions are now answered. You may add your nomination now, Useight, and I thank you for taking the time writing one. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 23:37, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
I added my co-nom. Go ahead and transclude whenever you're ready. Good luck. Useight (talk) 00:49, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Good luck! Enigma message 01:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Before you go live with your RfA, I do have a question: "You were being admin coached, but you terminated your coaching a few months ago, shortly after it was started. Why? What is your relationship with your former coach(es)?" You can either answer that on the RfA page or here. But I do want you to answer it somewhere as it will be a question people have.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 01:00, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Good luck RyRy!--Xp54321 (Hello!Contribs) 01:02, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
I believe that was quite a few months ago. I asked to be admin coached, but soon realized that I wasn't ready to be admin coached as I didn't even know the basics of Wikipedia. So I stopped being coached and decided to go with adoption instead, since I needed to be mentored on the basics of Wikipedia. The adoption lasted about three months, and the I graduated, and then came to ask for admin coaching once again, so I asked you, Balloonman. You then said there was no need for me to be coached. So basically, the reason I quit admin coaching back then so quickly was because I needed to learn other items and topics about Wikipedia, and I wasn't ready for admin coaching yet. -- RyRy (talk) 01:07, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
That was the impression that I got, but I wasn't sure, so I wanted to make sure, I'm gonna add a link to your comment here to my nom.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 01:09, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Amended...---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 01:25, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Best of luck with your RFA. Cheers.--LAAFan 02:45, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

DYK

Reconsideration needed at T:DYKT, August 24. Thanks, Punkmorten (talk) 22:14, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Nope, the link you gave was the creation of it in 2006. You expanded it on August 24, but not five-fold. You see, from 2006, other editors have expanded it. But it has to be a recent expansion, and the links I gave you showed that you only expanded it two-fold. It has to be a recent, probably about 5 days. So it has to be expanded five-fold within five days. Does that clarify it? Thanks, RyRy (talk) 22:22, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
RyRy, look again. His 17:04 August 24 edit took the article up to 3,804 bytes after being at 568 bytes. His next two edits brought it up to 4,999. That's an increase of 8.8x, well over the 5x standard. Metros (talk) 22:42, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Aha, I see. What I didn't see was that he expanded it from this to this, which certainly shows that he has expanded it 5x. What I saw is that he did this to this, but I retrieved the wrong link. Thank you very much Metros for the clarification, and now that that has been clarified, they hook should be approved. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 22:53, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Good luck

Hi there, long time no see Wisdom. Probably not. I'll still be the same weather it passes or fails. No bid deal anyway. Thanks! -- RyRy (talk) 02:11, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

Best wishes for your RFA -- Tinu Cherian - 05:36, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry man

Well, it looks as if your RfA is gonna fail... when you get back online, you might want to go ahead and withdraw it. I thought you had come along enough that you would succeed, otherwise I wouldn't have nomed ya. If you want to do admin coaching (which is largely an extended editor review) I'd be willing to do it...---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 06:06, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

Heh, I already did a few minutes ago. No worries, adminship is no big deal anyway. Admin coaching? Well, I would, but I'm not going to be as active as I was these past few months due to work... but I guess I could go for it. But I won't be commenting very often just for you to know, as I'm busy on-wiki and in real life as it is. Thank you for your offer, and I accept. Best, RyRy (talk) 06:11, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Sorry yor RfA didn't go to plan, I was gutted when I woke up and saw you withdraw. Apply again in the future. — Realist2 15:32, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Keep your chin up, Ryan, not that you wouldn't. You've got much to be proud of here, and even most of those in the oppose section said "you've come a long way" and they were surprised by how much good work you've done. I'm sorry I missed a chance to post on your RfA, I'm never online much on weekends, and it came and went before I saw it. Looking forward to the next one, if there is a next one, that's for you to decide. There were many good bits of advice in the oppose section, consider this a really really intense editor review. :-) You've bounced back wonderfully from previous setbacks, I know you'll do the same here. (btw, Randy Ruiz is batting at .333 right now, everytime he gets a hit I say damn, he's got a nice swing. And damn, he's got a nice article... :-) Keeper ǀ 76 16:23, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. Pretty much everyone was impressed by how far you've come. Seems your past problem with the copyvio is still a bit too fresh on people's minds. Hopefully that means it's just a matter of time before you can pass, if you do decide to eventually run again. Useight (talk) 16:31, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

My (excessively late) condolances to you, too. Bloody American timezone. weburiedoursecretsinthegarden 17:56, 25 August 2008 (UTC)

  • Well, thanks to you all for coming by. :) Though, I did learn a thing or two from that RfA... and that I've got a lot to learn and understand before I'm anywhere close to adminship here. I'm still surprised myself of how I've reformed these past few months. Anyway, thanks for the kind comments. :-) I'm not sure if I'll be active as I used to, though, because of real life events... but feel free to come by if you need any help at all! -- RyRy (talk) 00:52, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

The article has previously been speedily deleted as per WP:CSD#G11, blatant advertisement and WP:CSD#A7 (group) because the subject doesn't show significance. To me, the above still seems like advertisement, something Wikipedia doesn't keep as per WP:ADVERTISING. Also, please take a look at Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). It tells what are the requirements for companies and organizations to be notable. Probably, if you were to recreate the article you added to me above, it would still be speedily deleted as blatant advertisement. -- RyRy (talk) 01:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikirights?

Just out of curiosity, what ever happned to wikirights? It seems like it's fallen into a state of inactivity. PerfectProposal 15:15, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

It has been offline for months and moved to a different location... so nothing is happening there anymore. I can email you a different test wiki though if you would like. Hey, there are many other test wikis you can go to. :) Though, I've been focusing more on the Wikimedia Foundation than mere test wiki. -- RyRy (talk) 01:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

A word to the wise

RyRy your recent messages to THEN WHO WAS PHONE? contain a repeated common spelling mistake.

I see you reverting vandalism quite often, and your very good at it.
I'll be sure to take a closer look at your contributions and history to see if your ready for adminship if you ever do ask.
I'll see if I'll feel comfortable nominating you then after I take a closer look at you when you think your ready.

In place of the striken words you should have been typed YOU'RE or YOU ARE.

I notice such errors when the surrounding text is impeccable, otherwise I would not be bothering you. Cuddlyable3 (talk) 17:39, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the notice. Heh, I'll be sure to watch for that. I commented to his/her talk page a few weeks ago... if I recall. -- RyRy (talk) 01:00, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

User page fix-up

Are you still offering to do this? Mine's a bit clunky and could do with some TLC. I'd be happy to offer an eagle-eyed copyedit of any mainspace article (even a big, dry, technical one) in gratitude... --Dweller (talk) 12:01, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Yep, still doing so.... and I would be glad to assist you with your user page. Though, I don't really "trade" to have user pages redesigned, but if you insist, would you mind copyediting baseball uniform? It could really use some touch-up, though, I'm still copyediting and expanding it myself, so the copyedit can wait. Anywho, is there anything specific you would like me to do? Oh, and congratulations on your bureaucratship! :) I'm sure you'll do well. I would have supported, but I was unfortunately busy to do just that. :( Thanks, RyRy (talk) 00:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
It's a thank you, so don't worry about feeling bribed. I'll head right off there now :-) As for my page, well, it's ugly and clunky and doesn't really work anymore. I'll remove the stuff I don't want on it any more. I like clear fonts that don't try to look handwritten and a yellow/green theme would be nice, as I'm a Canary! Do you need more direction than that? --Dweller (talk) 08:31, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

NB I know little about baseball and don't speak fluent American. For both reasons, it'd be good if you watched what I do there. Also, there's no section on replica uniforms, as indicated by the bit I've added to the Lead. If you could get someone to add something sourced as a section and to complete the info I've requested in the Lead, that'd be excellent! --Dweller (talk) 09:12, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Sure thing. I'll see what I can come up with. :-) As far as the article, you've done a great job so far! But if you don't mind, I'm currently doing some copyediting myself to the article, so look out for edit conflicts. -- RyRy (talk) 22:59, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Much neater, thanks. I'm heading back to the baseball article later, to continue. --Dweller (talk) 10:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Main page redesign

Hello, RyRy5! Wikipedia:2008 main page redesign proposal was recently cleared of all design entries. You may want to re-enter your design(s), based on the details here. (You can see the old list of designs here). NOTE: A survey was conducted on what users wanted to see in the new main page, you can see the results here. My Page

RyRy The last we talked was back in July just check my user page it has some info about what we were doing. Could you make the following User Box's for me:

  • This user is known by adiokid on Wikiquote
  • This user use's Wikihow under the name stfelex777
  • This user likes Mohawks
  • This user likes swimming
  • This used isn't an admin but would like to one day.

Etineskid (talk) 16:32, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

If you would like those userboxes, referring to WP:UBX might help. Those userboxes you mentioned are at WP:UBX as far as I know. You can easily find them yourself there. I would create them for you, but using the ones already created with be better and more convenient. ;) Thanks, RyRy (talk) 22:59, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Coaching

Hi RyRy, I haven't forgotten about you... I'm just trying to figure out what we can do and whether or not coaching is right for you... I know that I offered to coach you, but I honestly think your biggest need is time. You have a strong clue and you know that you initially approached the project all wrong... but you are on the right path now. Let me look at your edits some more and think about it... While I am a huge fan of coaching, I don't think it is the right choice for everybody... and you might not be a good candidate for it. You might just need to keep your nose clean and wait.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 07:01, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Oh, funny how we posted a thread on each other's talk page at the same time. I understand, and its okay if you can't coach me if i don't need it. I figured out the main reason I failed my RfA because it was a premature one. Though, the opposers did say I need more learning to do and a better understanding of Wikipedia, along with more content writing. Take your time to review. I'm probably going to be online for a few more hours, so I'll be around. Thanks, RyRy (talk) 07:05, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
I just noticed your message and had to check the time of my post... I am definitely going to look you over some more... I'm on vacation right now... so it probably won't be until next week. You are, for me a tough one. What I need to do is re-review you in light of the opposes. I missed the mark with my own appraisal and need to see if I can see you from the light of your opposers. If I can do that, then we might have something to work with. If I still think you are a great candidate, whose biggest problem is separation from your wiki-infancy, then we might have problems. If I don't see what others saw, then I can't be an effective coach. Which has been why I've been dragging my feet with you. ---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 07:31, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Take your time Balloonman. Absolutely no rush on this. Though, there is something that I am having some issues with in RfAs, and that is the optional questions. The optional questions that came in my own RfA, I couldn't answer myself really. I usually read the optional questions in other RfAs also, most of which that I can't answer (accurately) if I were the one having to answer them. Any help (if any) would be greatly appreciated in this area, as I've seen you do coaching on questions before. All I really think I need to learn as for answering questions would just be reviewing WP:POLICY and knowing what to do in different situations, though, extra coaching in this area might be needed. -- RyRy (talk) 07:44, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

PeterSymonds

I missed what happened to PeterSymonds. Could you inform me what happened?--King Bedford I Seek his grace 08:46, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Sure. Well, first, on IRC, PeterSymonds was setting up something and accidentally gave out his password. Steve Crossin saw the password, and the password happened to be the same one PeterSymonds used on Wikipedia. From here, PeterSymonds didn't change his password, and he let Steve Crossin have access to PeterSymonds' account, an admin account. He used it quite often. Though, User:Thatcher checkusered PeterSymonds in an unrelated matter, and found out that Steve Crossin had access to the account. Steve Crossin also had access to Chet B Long's account (now User:Coffee) but used his account only once. Both, PeterSymonds and Chet B Long did not change their passwords even when knowing Steve knew their passwords, allowing Steve to use their admin accounts. After it was found out that Steve Crossin had been using admin accounts, which counts as sock puppeting, Chet B Long and PeterSymonds both requested a revoking of their administrator permissions at Meta-Wiki. I might have missed something... so the whole thread and discussion can be found here for more information on the subject and the result of what happened. -- RyRy (talk) 09:07, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I had a curious password change two months ago, and made sure to change them. I guess paranoia is a good thing; something that would have helped Peter. Oh well. As for me, I'm enjoying my non-admin status for now; not sure if I ever can get it back if I wanted to.--King Bedford I Seek his grace 09:13, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Good to hear your fine with being a non-admin. DYK seems to be late these days. Seems a bit tiring always having to ask admins if they're online so they can update DYK if they even have the experience to do so after I've loaded T:DYK/N. I would do it myself since I'm around most of the day, but I don't have access to T:DYK since I'm not an admin here... so I'll just stand by DYK, waiting for an admin to come by and update DYK when ready for now. Hopefully, an admin with DYK updating experience would be online when the time comes... otherwise, I would just have to wait... -- RyRy (talk) 09:26, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Around the World, update...

We've been hard at work behind the scenes. We can't seem to get the trophy right, but we'll get there. And the set of pages need one more section completed before they can be moved to article space...

... that's right! We're almost ready to move the whole set into the live encyclopedia. One page for every country of the world!

We're currently developing the standard for these outlines, they're overall format and what they should look like.

One page that is nearly complete and built to the current standard is List of basic Thailand topics. Please take a look, and help us put the finishing touches on it if you have the time. It will be an example (along with List of basic Japan topics and List of basic France topics) for those working on the rest of the lists, and therefore is pretty important.

Any help or input you could provide would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Motto of the day

Hello, I notice you're using one of the {{motd}} templates, run by Wikipedia:Motto of the day. You may have noticed that some of the mottos recently have been followed by a date from 2006, or on occasion simply "Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". The reason for this is that Motto of the day is in some very serious need of help. Participation in the project, which has never been especially high, has dropped considerably over this past summer, to the point we have had several days where no motto was scheduled to appear at all. Over the past several weeks, I've been the only editor scheduling mottos at all, but there aren't enough comments on some of these mottos to justify their use. If we do not get some help - and soon - your daily mottos will stop. In order for us to continue updating these templates for you, we need your help.

When you get a chance between your normal editing, could you stop by our nominations page and leave a few comments on some of the mottos there, especially those that do not have any comments yet? This works very simply; you read a motto, decide whether or not you like it, and post your opinion just below the motto. That's it - no experience required, just an idea of what you personally like and what you feel reflects Wikipedia and its community. If you do have past experience with the project, then please close some of the older nominations once they've got a decent consensus going. There are directions on the nominations page on how to do this.

If you have any questions, please let me know, or post on the project's talk page. I'm looking forward to reading your comments on the suggested mottos, and any additional suggestions you'd like to make. Until then, happy editing! Hersfold (t/a/c) 02:48, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

It's rather similar to AfDs, except you are basically counting votes since it's all "I like it" kinda stuff, and consensus recently has been two people, one of whom was me. As I said in the message, there's details on the nominations page, but it's not too big a deal. Anyway, it's all at WP:MOTD. Thanks for helping out. Hersfold (t/a/c) 03:49, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Userpage

Hey Ry, I wanted to tell you that I imported my userpage to my girlfriend's (When here she is girlfriend) userpage. I left the credit to you. Her username is Thunders Cry. Also, if not too much to ask. Can you give her a welcome to the community. She is new to the whole Wiki scene and I think it would be nice for her to get some hellos from other memebers of the community and in your case a friend of mine (At least I consider you a friend). Anyways, happy editing. If you do not want her to have that layout please tell me instead of pulling it down. From there I'll explain to her and then tear it down. But if that comes up please can you make her one that looks like yours? RobNot an admin  04:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. Thanks for the notification, and I have no problems with her using my design at all. :-) If she doesn't like it, then I'll be delighted to make her a new design. And its no trouble at all that I welcome her, I've already done it in fact. Nice to see a new Wikipedian around. :-) -- RyRy (talk) 04:50, 4 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks mate, I'll talk to her in the afternoon and see if she is interested in a different layout. She is easily confused by wikipedia. So if she is interested I'll send the request over. I think it will be a while before she can make a proper request and again thank you very much. RobNot an admin  04:59, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Motto of the day

Hi, thanks for responding to my motto of the day. I saw the post that they needed nominations, so I added three. I looked yesterday; nobody responded to my three. Today, about 8 users commented. Does this usually happen? I find it a little odd.--LAAFan 13:47, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

No, not exactly. WP:MOTD has been slightly inactive for a while, so Hersfold sent messages to hundreds of users who have a Motto of the Day template in their user space to notify that Motto of the Day needs extra help and participants. By the looks of it, it seemed to have worked and most users helped with the nominations and nominations in review. Hopefully, it will stay that way here on forth. -- RyRy (talk) 00:56, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the comment, and thanks for telling me about the notice. By the way, WikiZorro was the one who originally adopted me.--LAAFan 02:10, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Your secret pages

I was just looking through them, and I'll admit, I was astounded by the complexity of all three. Just wanted to ask a few quick questions. Did you spend all that time carefully arranging those characters? If so, how long did it take? I guess it may have been easier for you to copy them from elsewhere, but still, I find it almost impossible to locate your actual secret page. Regards, A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 20:13, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

It took me about four days to find it. Burner0718 Jibba Jabba! 20:14, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Really? Sheesh, I only spent about 5-10 minutes :-|. A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 20:18, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. I've never looked at my so-called "secret pages" in months... probably since around March or April. I'm probably just going ask to delete it soon. Seems a bit WP:MYSPACEy to me now since I was clueless before. And no, I didn't type all that. -- RyRy (talk) 05:24, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Why not just keep it for the fun of seeing if others can indeed find your page? It isn't a blog or anything like that. A Prodigy ~In Pursuit of Perfection~ 10:58, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Excuse me for being a talk page stalker, but if you (RyRy) haven't edited it, I don't see a harm in it. On the other hand, I also see your point on the MYSPACE part. This is coming from someone who doesn't have a secret page, but has a guestbook (created by yourself, if you recall), so you could delete the secret page and keep the guestbook. (Or just delete both if you want). Either way, it's your decision. Cheers.--LAAFan 14:23, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
It seems my page has become very popular (over 200 signatures...). I'll just keep it for now—maybe make some tweaks to it—but I won't be doing any further editing to it after that. -- RyRy (talk) 20:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

I see you came across my long quest to get MLB at GA status. It started by seeing NHL already has GA status, then being horrified by the MLB article. ;)--LAAFan 20:22, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Yep, I decided to help the cause to get the article to WP:GA. Its a hard task, but I bet we can a accomplish it. -- RyRy (talk) 20:25, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I think we can too. I've already added about 33 references, plus another couple from other Wikipedia articles.--LAAFan 20:28, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Main page redesign

Hello, Wikipedia:2008 main page redesign proposal is accepting "resubmissions" of proposed redesigns of the main page. The idea is that the new submissions be tweaked in response to the survey results. I am letting you know because I liked your submission, though perhaps you were already aware and do not wish to re-submit. I hope that is not the case! — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 22:07, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Yes, I knew about this already, but I'm making a few changes to my proposal. It'll be up sometime... but not until I finish cleaning it up, which might take me awhile. -- RyRy (talk) 00:13, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Userpage 4

Did you create that yourself? (The wikipedia globe, i mean) That really is pretty cool! By the way, I hope you don't mind cause I used it on my secret page hunt, too! You should try to find it. Vinson 00:08, 7 September 2008 (UTC) PS Try the links:)

No, I did not. I don't mind you taking it. I don't intend on trying to find yours though. -- RyRy (talk) 00:13, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Wow, that was a fast response! By the way I used your basic template for the barnstar too, i cant do anything on my own... *sobs Vinson 00:15, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Since you're the writer of the article, I though I should let you know, I copied some of the information from baseball uniform (the sourced part mostly) to Major League Baseball, replacing the old, unsourced section. It's a technique that I've used on the article a couple of times now. The article now has 60 references. Cheers.--LAAFan 00:54, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Please note that AFD discussions are customarily kept open for five days. See WP:NAC for details of when it is appropriate for non-admins to close an AFD. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 12:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I am aware that non-admins should close AfDs when they have run for five days or more, though, it doesn't mean non-admins can close AfDs earlier than the suggested number of days, and I know it is preferred that it runs for five days. I felt consensus was met to keep the article, even if it only ran for four days. If you have any further concerns, I'll be happy to revert my closure. Regards, RyRy (talk) 18:16, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Made it to FL status. Thanks! --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 18:28, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Great! Your welcome. :) I guess my copyedit really helped. I should probably start working on an WP:FL myself also... any ideas? Note that I'm a Boston Red Sox fan. :) -- RyRy (talk) 18:31, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
List of Boston Red Sox Opening Day starting pitchers? --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 18:37, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Hah! Why didn't I think of that? :) I'll see what I can do. -- RyRy (talk) 18:40, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Er, when you look at Baseball Reference's list of Boston Red Sox Opening Day starters, it doesn't show the starters from 1955 and below...

Hrm, thats odd... I don't know what to tell you on that one. Thats one of the reasons I like the Ms... they are fairly new :p --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 20:46, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Well, I decided to work on List of New York Mets Opening Day starting pitchers instead, since Baseball Reference actually shows them all. :P -- RyRy (talk) 20:59, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
That works :) --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 21:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

I haven't forgotten this, I will get to it tomorrow more than likely. --Admrb♉ltz (talk) 21:41, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Alright, thanks! -- RyRy (talk) 21:48, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
