You are absolutely right about the comments on Ewan McGregor, only in my mode of ranting rather than the factual basis of my comments. His high public profile and open support for UNICEF fundraising has had the effect of removing tens of millions of dollars from the Syrian, South Sudanese and Iraqi refugees by channeling it to the UN who take 35% before sub-contracting the NGO's to do the actual work and take the risks. I know this as I have worked for the UN for over 10 years and have seen the greed and corruption first hand. His acceptance of his OBE was a very good career move for taking no risks whatsoever. It has furthered his career greatly. I feel sorry for the real aid workers wo die in hundreds every year and get no recognition whatsoever.

Don't get me started on "Dame" Angelina Jolie.

However, again you were right, apologies and I will look for a different avenue to challenge these injustices...

I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Henry Wilmer. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. You'll notice I haven't tagged that one for speedy yet. When the Jill Chism page was created, I waited to see if there was any expansion. There wasn't, so I tagged it A7. Then two more pages showed up with the same content. Now it's either students who are only half-following directions or it's a user up to shenanigans. Back in October, Utley was involved in a nasty collision in Game 2 of the 2015 National League Division Series against the New York Mets that broke Ruben Tejada's leg. Tonight, Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard threw behind Utley (probably as retaliation) and the home plate umpire ejected Syndergaard. He later hit two home runs in the game. What I was saying was that you should not tag short pages for speedy deletion with {{db-a3}} (no content) or {{db-a1}} (no context), until 10 minutes have passed. Often, users create short or empty articles and then come back a few minutes later to add all of the page content. In the case of the article you tagged, the page creator had removed all of the page content. We can interpret this as the page author wanting to have the page deleted, so you should have tagged it for deletion with {{db-g7}} (author requested deletion) instead of {{db-a3}} (no content). Actually, no, they are Starship9000 socks. I actually reported all of those socks to SPI as socks of Vote (X), but it turns out I was incorrect and the clerk there concluded that their behavior does not match up with Vote (X). Later, I found another sockpuppeteer, Starship9000, whose account naming (Username on tyres) and behavior (creation of attack pages with offensive titles but innocuous or empty content) matches these socks perfectly, so I retagged them as such.

Also, sorry to point fingers, but why is a new editor like you involved with sockpuppet tagging as their first edits? Are you in any way related to Vote (X) or Starship9000? Passengerpigeon (talk) 03:46, 30 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Eldarion: I actually checked the revision history on the page after removing your deletion template, and noticed you said it was a hoax, but I searched the dessert online and found several mentions of it so decided not to replace the tag. Are you saying that the mentions of the dessert outside of Wikipedia are actually being fabricated by a troll group? If so, I will replace the speedy deletion tag. Also, keep in mind that to tag hoaxes for speedy deletion, use the template {{db-hoax}} instead. The template you used, {{db-vandalism}}, is for obvious vandal pages, such as pages filled with profanities, not well-written hoaxes like the page Namik (dessert), which led me to remove the tag as the page wasn't blatant vandalism.

TheCoffeeAddict - Tagging (now blocked) accounts of a sock puppet is not directly feeding the troll. I don't see anything wrong with what he's doing. Hi. You recently contested the speedy deletion request. Your first reason is valid - (There does appear to be some information on the subject) - my error.

The second reason - that it is an attack article - "material intended purely to harass or intimidate a person" - is pretty precise - it is pretty much only controversies. Let us also take into consideration that the BLP was not convicted and it may even be a BLP1 problem. It also seems to me that the sources are played around in order to ruin the BLP subject.

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. New Page Review - newsletter No.2[edit]

Hello Passengerpigeon,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election[edit]

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.
