Orphaned non-free image (Image:Beijing2008 logo.png)

⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Beijing2008 logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. King of ♠ 21:16, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Macau 2006 Jogos Lusofonia.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Macau 2006 Jogos Lusofonia.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 05:05, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Can you help me out?

Hi, Howard the Duck recommended you in regard to the infoboxes on the side for the olympic qualifiers in basketball. Wondering whether you would be kind enough to help me out with the womens one. And also, how do you get the number of federations? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIBA_Americas_Championship_for_Women_2007 Roadrunnerz45 02:25, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Roadrunnerz45. Of course I'll be glad to help you. We can use the existing infobox template I created for the men's version - {{Infobox FIBA tourney}}. I'll probably just have to create new subpages because of the infobox header, which shows the regional name and the edition number, and add new codes so that the links that display a country's name will point to the respective women's national team article (not men).
As for the number of federations, I believe I saw them on the official FIBA sites and Wiki articles. Parutakupiu 03:12, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
I decided to some of it:) When you have time you can fix it up, including yes changing the edition number to 9, as for the federations i will email them but if you can do it earlier thats great. Thanks a lot! Roadrunnerz45 10:12, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
OK, I think it's done. I've created the women's infobox version, as I said, by just adding new and appropriate headers to each one of the continental/world tournaments. The only thing you have to add is a new parameter in the infobox template call code — gender=women — so that it shows the correct infobox. Parutakupiu 01:15, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:Quarter Finals

A tag has been placed on Template:Quarter Finals requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 04:02, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Cop logo.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Cop logo.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sdrtirs (talk) 00:21, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

David Aspin

I rescued David Aspin from speedy deletion last night, but I don't know where to go to source him. Could you please put in basic sourcing? Nyttend (talk) 14:51, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Not sure why you came to me to ask that, but I did as you asked and now the article is wikified and has references, thus sustaining the person's notability. Couldn't find much more, so for now it's a stub. Parutakupiu (talk) 18:04, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Bravo, and a great aplause for your work

Your work on the template: Infobox Olympic Yugoslavia is a achievement without any doubt. Your knowledge on the issue is beyond simple understanding, it is wisdom. Thank you very much for your work, I couldn't have done it because of lacking skills. Simply brilliant, bravo. -- Imbris (talk) 00:25, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

P. S. If you could look the Independent Olympic Participants template at the article Independent Olympic Participants at the 1992 Olympic Games. In that template - listed as other appearances are Yugoslavia which links to Yugoslavia at the Olympics instead of Yugoslavia at the Olympic Games 1996. Thanks again. Cheers.

Ha, finally! Great to hear my edits satisfied completely your worries. I understood your point but couldn't agree with the changes being made to the existing templates, as they didn't bear much logic. So, instead of creating a separate infobox for FR Yugoslavia (answering to the same IOC code), I tweaked the existing infobox for Yugoslavia, so that it could accomodate the data for both states and display each version in the right pages.
Edited IOP page. Best regards. Parutakupiu (talk) 00:51, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

2008 Olympic Template

As the leading editor at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Olympics, you should be aware that I think a rash template deletion decision is being made at Wikipedia:Templates_for_deletion/Log/2008_August_18#Template:Nations_at_the_2008_Summer_Olympics. I have attempted to created the sidebar template Template:Nations at the 2008 Summer Olympics to complement Template:NOCin2008SummerOlympics as a navigational aid for some of the larger countries. Although the links are the same it is not redundant because it greatly improves the experience for the reader who wants to quickly visit different countries. When I visit a page like United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics, I often want to jump to another page and I don't think I am the only reader who would like to do so. Currently, the reader has to scroll down for pages and pages in hopes that the proper template is at the bottom. It would help the reader if there were a sidebar navbox like the one I created. It is not uncommon for a sidebar to include only duplicate links of a template at the bottom (See Barack Obama, which has a sidebar template that includes only redundant links).--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 13:18, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Categories for discussion: Olympics events

Hi, I noticed you'd proposed the change of names for a couple of categories. I think what you did was correct as they are about "events of the Summer/Winter Olympics", so perhaps let people know about the discussion at WT:OLY and you may be able to get some more support for the the change, or a good explaination of why it should remain as is. If you already brought it up at the project, and I just didn't notice, then I apologise for this pointless message! Cheers Basement12 (T.C) 21:35, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:London-2012-logo.svg

Thanks for uploading Image:London-2012-logo.svg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Unneeded changes

The changes where reverted as hthe tables were fine as they were granted some of the totals were wrong, but the table was fine, it follows the format at List of UEFA club competition winning managers, also there was no need to change the country flag templates as  England produces  England so to change it was pointless. The key is also supposed to have a heading. Hope this helps NapHit (talk) 19:50, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

Olá!

I noticed you had commented on a peer review regarding Portugal's song at Eurovision 2008. I wrote the English article for the singer Anabela a couple of months ago and I was wondering if you would like to add any more additional things to her article. I'm just learning Portuguese so I've read some sources but I wouldn't know what to search for in a search engine. Also, do you know of anyone who could get a freely-licensed picture of how she looks today? I ended up finding 17 sources, which I thought was great coverage for a Portuguese Eurovision singer, but I'd like to have more and perhaps nominate it for GA at a future date. Would you consider helping me?

Muito obrigado antecipadamente! Mike H. Fierce! 08:15, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

I saw you've edited since I wrote this comment; I'd appreciate it if you responded to me and didn't ignore my message. Mike H. Fierce! 20:19, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
First of all, let me apologize for not having answered promptly to your post. I saw the above message in a glimpse and had little or no time to build a proper reply, and because I did not answer back I ended up forgeting about it. Please, excuse me if I did make you think I ignored you.
Second, about your request: I commend you on having expand very significantly an article about Anabela. Even though she's a famous singer here, I understand that it might be difficult to find online sources about her life. But as you said, you ended up finding some more, besides those on pt.wikipedia, which kinda amazes me. Concerning an updated free-licensed pic, that's an even harder task, I'm afraid. There are lots of pics of her on the web, but either copyrighted or with unknown license. There's one on Flickr, copyrighted, but you could ask if the author might change it to a Creative Commons license.
I'll see what I can do to help in terms of finding further sources of info and images, because it would be really nice to have a GA for this article. Once again, sorry. Parutakupiu (talk) 01:10, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
It's good that you found some more sources! I can tell already the first interview you linked is too hard for me to read. I'm learning Portuguese but I'm not that great yet. :) Also, the woman who took the picture you linked, she's a photojournalist named Sofia Quintas. pt:User:555 already wrote her a note on the comments section of the picture, asking her to license it to Creative Commons. If you can find another alternative in the meantime, though, by all means, go for it.
It's great to see you working on it so quickly! So that's that Lusitana paixão they talk about. ;) Mike H. Fierce! 19:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
I don't think you're ignoring me right now since it's close to Christmas, but when you have free time, let me know what new stuff you've found and what we can integrate into the article. Muito obrigado! Mike H. Fierce! 21:00, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Hi again, Mike. From what I read from those quick interviews, there is little content that we can integrate into the article, but what needs to be done is update the biography section with her newest musical "Amor Sem Barreiras" (adaptation of West Side Story). Also, try to shape the biography section so that her acting career is not under her music career (even though she sings in both). Anyways, I probably won't be able to spend much attention during the holidays, so I can't promiss you anything till the end of the year. Parutakupiu (talk) 16:35, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

IRC

Do you use IRC? If not, is there any way you can download a client and start using it this week? I have an interview coming up via e-mail with Anabela and I will probably need help translating questions into Portuguese...not entirely sure, though. And there's a lack of Portuguese speakers on Wikipedia's IRC channels. Mike H. Fierce! 07:54, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

No, I'm not an IRC user and, to be honest, I do not intend to become one. I haven't got the time for that, sorry. Anyway, I'm a bit late replying to your request, but were you able to find the help you needed? Cheers. Parutakupiu (talk) 00:59, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
