Take care, Tony. I wish you a Happy New Year, and remember that we are always here if and when you decide to return. TomStar81 (Talk) 03:07, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to see you go

Although I can understand your frustrations having had a wikistalker myself for a while I am certain I speak for the majority when I say I am sorry to see you go and I hope you make a return after a break as I did. Cheers and good luck.--Kumioko (talk) 14:50, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

Thank you, Tony. Come back soon, okay? Semper fi, jefe. bahamut0013wordsdeeds 14:56, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

It's not right

I'm sorry that you feel compelled to do this. The whole matter is pretty much unknown to me, but from what I saw at his talk page and WQA I think you're right to be disappointed or more in how that user treated you.

But don't let that spoil these festive days for you. Have a very happy, prosperous, yadda yadda yadda new year.

One more thing. The essays which recommend our behavior when a user departs miss the mark a bit. Certain users should be begged to stay. You're one of those.

SamEV (talk) 22:36, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

We'll miss you here Tony. Thanks for making Wikipedia a better place, and for making my experience here more enjoyable. Hasta luego. Guettarda (talk) 04:11, 1 January 2010

Tony

If I am going to say say it, I hope you don't mind I say it in the Royal Tongue.. Needless to say, I totally disagree with your decision to withdraw. I hope this is simply a Marine's decision to strategically withdraw to do some R&R and regroup. In the meantime, see my defense at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/H%C3%A9ctor_Andr%C3%A9s_Negroni. Pr4ever (talk) 13:27, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

PLEASE COME BACK SOON: THIS PLACE WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT YOU

I understand your decision to withdraw your active participation in Wikipedia, and this place will not be the same without you here. I wish the Wikipedia higher ups would have acted earlier so you would not have been forced into this decision. This one >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/IncidentArchive585#Uninvolved_Admin_Requested:_User:Damiens.rf_multiple_JPG_deletions_and_related_matters , should had been enough warning to the Wikipedia higher ups to block Damiens.rf. The encyclopedia would be a better place without her around. The block finally came weeks later (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#User:Damiens.rf_should_be_told_to_stop_his_rudeness_and_Wikihounding) and (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Damiens.rf#Blocked), when it was clear that failure to stand up to him and blocking him was only enboldening his arrogance, rudeness, and uncivility.

Any way, any sane human being would had made the decision you made after all that editor put you through. Truth will always reign over Falsehood; Good will always overcome Evil. And while it may appear that you have lost a battle, but you are winning this "war" because you represent the Good and the Truth that all other wikipedians regardless of creed, nationality, color, race, etc., should strive to imitate.

I will miss you greatly, and Wikipedia will not be the same without you here: Thank you for all that you were. Tony, you, easily more than anyone else, helped me (and countless others) help wikipedia in the little ways that I could; you, more than anybody else answered my questions without reservations, without any agenda, and without conditions, whenever I asked them; and you Tony, above anyone else, provided direction whenever it was needed. I will always value your advise, insight, and ability to see what was really important in an article.

Thank you, Tony, and please come back. Pay no attention to user Damiens.rf "reverse bluffing". I wouldn't base my decisions on such cheap psychology from a psycho-maniac. Stick to your guns: don't let her get her way; your leaving will only enbolden her. Maniacs love drama: your staying away will give her the satisfaction she seeks. Let her therapy somewhere else; wikipedia is not a therapy room.

As you made DAILY contributions to Wikipedia, I am hopeful "extended" means nothing more than a few days, and that you will be back quickly. PLEASE don't be gone more that a few days. Please come back soon. Mercy11 (talk) 23:13, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

I thought I would mention here also that I added a comment to the talk page of the file deletion process. The comment is below. "I work primarily on US military biographical articles, especially Medal of Honor recipients and I have noticed a huge number of files coming up recommended for deletion by a single user User:Damiens.rf. Upon further review it appears that nearly all of the files that this user is focusiing their attention on belong to one user, User:Marine 69-71. Due to the sheer volume of files that this user has submitted for deletion many of them are being automatically deleted because knowone argues them and given that he is submitting dozens a day I simply don't have the time to go through each and every one of them to argue points for or against. Although there are some that I agree should probably be deleted there are many that I do not. Since it appears to me that this Damiens user is using this file deletion process as a means to attack the Marine 69-71 user I refuse to vote either way on any of them and I recommend that Damiens be limited to files not uploaded by Marine 69-71." --Kumioko (talk) 21:46, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Two articles for the same person

Hi Tony! Happy new year! Big favor to ask you. (Please come back to Wikipedia!) Wilfredo Santa-Gómez and Wilfredo Santa Gomez seem to be the same person, who also appears online as Wilfredo G. Santa. The two articles have the same information. They should be merged and cleaned up. Can you do that? If not, can you tell me how to proceed? Thanks!--Lawrlafo (talk) 17:25, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

I merged them!--Lawrlafo (talk) 19:27, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Change for the better?

Hey Tony. The deletion noms have stirred up quite a fuss. There is a move afoot to change how these issues are handled in the future. I don't think that would have occured if such a valued contributor hadn't been involved. I hope you're 2010 is off to a great start and that it's a great decade for you and your family! Enjoy yourself and the occasional piragua! ChildofMidnight (talk) 06:13, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Though you don't know me, I'm gonna second CoM's comment. This is one of the...um, most spirited noticeboard discussions I've seen in a while, and for the most part, the outrage is built on the fact that regardless of whether the deletions were "correct" per our fair use policy, they were done in such a way that it chased off a valued contributor. You may be indirectly responsible for the creation of new policy, and if you were less of a valued Wikipedian, the issue never would have been raised. I'm hoping that will at least make you think about coming back. (Oh, and by the way--if I'm reading correctly, User:AntonioMartin is your son?? If so, he brings you much credit! (I asked him to remove something from his user page, as it was not written in an appropriate tone; came back the next day expecting a fight, and lo and behold, it was gone--without so much as an annoyed comment or a snarky edit-summary! You could have knocked me down with a feather...I used to teach, so I no longer take for granted the existence of politeness among the under-25 group.) Anyhow--I hope your time away is relaxing--but not so much so that you don't miss this crazy place. There are problems here that need a lot of work--but as I know you've seen, there are good people here too. And though it doesn't always seem that way, they outnumber the less-good ones by a LOT, and many of those good people are trying to change the things that need changing. (And CoM even finds time to write articles, too!) Take care and be well, okay? GJC 05:58, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

A solution for image license/source/whatever problems: delegation and teamwork

Happy 2010.

It gave me no pleasure at all to delete File:CarmenDurnier2.jpg. I wasn't happy about deleting File:Nurses in Tortugero.jpg either. Same for File:Carmen Bozak2.jpg. I appreciate you're a busy guy. I know you can't possibly do everything in a day. I know you can't possibly fix everything yourself. But this is a team game. There are other folks in the Puerto Rico and MILHIST projects. We likely have Wikipedians sitting a couple of miles down the road from NARA and wherever the other US Government archives are. If you rounded up some of this help and told them what you need it would be much easier to get these images replaced, and even to go through any other ones where there is a question mark and fix those too.

Here's my suggestion: you could ask Damiens.rf to go through your uploads and make a list of the ones where he reckons there could be a problem. If you've got a plan to fix things nobody can complain too much. There's no deadline. Things don't need to be fixed right away. Rules are made to be broken if that's for the best - WP:IAR and all. You benefit, he benefits by doing something collegial with you, and in the end we all benefit. It's better to take control of this yourself I'd say. But if you disagree, that's your right. So what do you think? Angus McLellan (Talk) 03:09, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

I happened to see this message and I wanted to say that I would be ok with giving such a process a try. Instead of using the FFD page, I could list here (or in the Puerto Rico project page) what the problems with the images are. And we could agree, like, to give ourselves a month to try to fix the problems. (If the number of images reveals too huge, we can extend the "deadline", but I believe we should have one)
If everybody wants to try that, just let me know where I should paste the problem list. All the best, --Damiens.rf 12:47, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
One alternative would be to put it on a subpage under Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico somewhere. Or it might make sense to have it somewhere in Tony's user space if he is agreeable. I think we should let Tony decide. Angus McLellan (Talk) 13:41, 11 January 2010 (UTC) On reflection, putting it there is the only right way. We want to get away from "this is up to Tony to fix" and make it a collective thing. Sorry for being dim there. Angus McLellan (Talk) 13:51, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Excellent idea - to be quite frank, many of those images were uploaded some years ago, when there were no "OTRS", "rationales" and most of the source websites were still online. I'm not making up excuses, but I dedicated most the majority of my time to the creation of educational articles and did not keep up with image policy changes. I know that I have messed up with "tags" and such, however the idea of teamwork really sounds within the spirit of community unity which is one of the pilars of this project. I do have a library in my study from which I can find and cite some sources, plus I do own many pre-1924 pictures which I have in my collection. As I stated to Angusmclellan in his talk page, I will no longer write articles for Wikipedia, the strain of the past situation plus my declining health has taken a toll on me, I may not not be as fast as I used to, but I will do my best to fix most of the images. All of the teamwork help will be more then welcomed, I'm the first to admit that I lack rationale abilities in my rationales. I still feel that the "Nurses in the Tortoguero Camp" picture should have been kept, because as every person who has served in the military knows, it is impossible for a civilian to call out a whole military platoon or group picture in a US military camp, only officail authoritzed military personal are allowed to do that. Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico would be the proper forum. Tony the Marine (talk) 20:41, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Tony, many thanks. I'll write up an introduction and some explanation so you can suggest improvements! Should be done by your evening time tomorrow. All the best, Angus McLellan (Talk) 00:58, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
Hm, this is an interesting twist. Let's see how well we can get it to work. However, that does not mean that I am willing to deal with more sarcastic remarks, if we have to solve the issues, the process must be acceptable for both sides. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:29, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
I have been unable to come here for weeks. If possible, can you give me a rundown of everything that has happened in the meanwhile? Regards, - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:07, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
I will take a look, there might be someone who can help me with these. - Caribbean~H.Q. 23:08, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Tony, I'm not sure that this is working. I offered several alternatives, but they only responded to the one that (apparently) can't be fixed, it is hard to solve something without feedback. - Caribbean~H.Q. 18:58, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
Its probably better that I don't say my opinion of this whole ordeal, if we don't get feedback then they can't say that we didn't try. By the way, I have yet to open an OTRS ticket, so I'm curious what our chances of getting one of these for McWilliams Arroyo's article are. - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:13, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
They are also targeting the obvious PD images? WTH? Why pointlessly add to the flood? - Caribbean~H.Q. 04:24, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Marine. Did you took this picture yourself? Isn't this the sane image that was deleted recently? --Damiens.rf 00:29, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Absolutely, it is the same. When I was 15 years old I visit my father in Puerto Rico. He in turn took me to meet my Grandfather (his dad) for the first time who so happened to reside in El Barrio Barstolo in the town of Lares which is close to where Manuel Rotas resided. I have always been a history nut and I always have the habit of taking a camera, even a cheap one where ever I go. Now, when I first uploaded the image I just about did everything wrong with it because of my lack of knowledge and at the end I just said the hell with it, but I have admit that despite our arguments in our interactions, I have learned a lot from you (who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks). I believe that I have it right now. Did you read my statement in regard to the Ramiro Colon image? Tony the Marine (talk) 01:06, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
You could have saved us all a lot of drama and confrontation by disclosing this earlier. Anyway, I'm happy that we are being able to handle the image issues like grown up people now. --Damiens.rf 19:37, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi

I've seen you've been considering to quit wikipedia. Glad to see that you've change your mind. French immigration to Puerto Rico is 80% translated and should be online on mid-february. Best regards, Le sotré (talk) 22:00, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

  • My friend, I'm sorry to say that I haven't changed my mind. I will no longer write nor contribute any more articles for Wikipedia. What I'm doing now is trying to fix some of the images which I uploaded in order to save them from deletion and while I'm at it, I try to fix and look after some of the articles which I have created. I can't wait to see your translation of the "French immigration to Puerto Rico". Tony the Marine (talk) 07:45, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
    • Hi Tony, I'm glad to tell you that I have finished translation of fr:Immigration française à Porto Rico. However, I think there is a problem with the 11th reference of the english article. It leads to a google search page, not to "Guias para el Desarollo Sustentable de Vieques" (Spanish), By Grupo de Apoyo Tecnicos y Profesionales, Special Commission on Vieques, Pg.5. Could you provide the actual reference? I haven't been able to find it. Regards, Le sotré (talk) 22:36, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

RE: Deletion of Puerto Rican images

I know I messed up bad with HQ, pero al menos yo no persisti, y creoq ue nos hemos aprendido a respetar nuestros boundaries (ok, ok *I* have learned). Corretjer

Hola Tony ¿Como estas? I uploaded a new image of Corretjer. I was trying to help so I don't mind if you want to keep the first one and delete this one. I thought that by uploading from gobierno.pr the fair use defense would be more easier (the government goal is to promote culture not profit from images) but I guess I was wrong. The copyright paranoia is getting boring. Saludos, --Jmundo (talk) 01:58, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Hay bendito. Tony, don't worry about Corretjer' image. Its clear that some editors in the PR image board have their own policy about copyright and Fair use. I'm not wasting my time posting more about the image in that page. I'm confident that the image can survive a deletion discussion just like File:JD Salinger.jpg did recently. I will keep looking to see how I can help, maybe uploading new images, but I don't have time or patience for the merry-go-around.--Jmundo (talk) 05:46, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

Adam Clayton Powell IV (politician)

Hello. I blanked the page temporary after a report at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard#Adam_Clayton_Powell_IV_.28politician.29 knowing that some of the information should stay. I know also that the article as it is, contains clear violation of BLPs policy. I do not know enough about the subject to clean things up. Based on BLP and IAR policies, I believe I did the right thing but I respect your opinion. Thank you. Sole Soul (talk) 08:38, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply. Sorry I was not clear, I only saw the article after someone else reported it to the BLP Noticeboard. I did enough for someone that I know nothing about, so the edit that you reverted is my last in that article. Sole Soul (talk) 09:18, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you Marine for your understanding and your nice words. I'm sorry for the tone of my last message and sorry to here that you decided not to contribute to the project. Good luck. Sole Soul (talk) 23:34, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

I need your advice on Nelson Antonio Denis article

Tony,

I am having a problem with an article Nelson Antonio Denis.

A person placed multiple tags on it, which I do not believe are warranted or accurate.

The article has been up for over a year, and has never received any negative commentary before, not even one.

Anyone is free to edit the article at any time. These tags were all placed by one person, all of a sudden.

Could you help me to resolve this...any action or advice?

MBernal615 (talk) 18:10, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you, Tony

Thank you, Tony. I'm sorry to bring this tira y jala to your doorstep...on Super Bowl Sunday, no less.

MBernal615 (talk) 19:54, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Hello MBernal615, I will review the article as you requested and post my comments on the article's talk page. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:45, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Thank you Again

Tony,

Thank you AGAIN for your review of the Denis article. Your advice is always solid, and I really appreciate the time and consideration you give -- to other people's problems, which are often of their own creation! It's one of the many reasons why people respect you so much.

Regarding the copyright of the photo Vote For Me! -- Nelson Antonio Denis is the producer and director of the film, he owns the copyright, so there is no problem in that area. This can be verified at http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304912/fullcredits#cast and The New York Times (5/6/03), http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C02E4DF113CF935A35756C0A9659C8B63

Thank you again for your careful review and editing. It is always greatly appreciated. I am sorry this happened on Super Bowl Sunday, and I wish you the best for 2010 and many years beyond.

Hispanic and Puerto rican Medal of Honor recipient lists

Good evening to you good sir, I just noticed that you made a couple of edits to the Hispanic Medal of Honor recipients list and I am glad to see you back editing again. I had a question I wanted to pose to you regarding this list and the puerto rican recipients list. I want to merge these two lists, adding a seperate section to the hispanic recipients list for the puerto rican recipients. I think that the puerto rican list is just too short to be its own list but I think its important and should be somewhere, this seems like the most logical place. Since you are the one that created them initially though as far as I can tell I wanted to run it by you first. How do you feel about that? --Kumioko (talk) 04:13, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Alt = is for an alternate text description of the image. This is for people who cannot see or cannot see well. There is currently some debate about using the individuals name as well but thats another story. Did you give any though to merging the 2 lists yet?--Kumioko (talk) 05:58, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Denis

The article has been written by the subject, that is clear, please leave my templates on the article until I have examined the article and the situation in more depth. This editor has uploaded multiple copy violations and there are other issues still to deal with this user. thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 07:35, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

The same problem AGAIN with the Nelson Antonio Denis article

Tony,

The same person has placed the same tags on top of the Nelson Antonio Denis article, which you removed earlier today.

The person has offered no discussion of these tags, and is making edits which bear no relation to the subject matter of the tags.

I know that people can edit...that is the nature of the Wikipedia. But these tags are not correct.

I'm sorry to re-visit this problem, but I don't know what to do.

Thanks again for your consideration.

PS: The good news, I took your advice about the photos, and spent a long time making sure that permissions were sent to OTRS for several photos.

MBernal615 (talk) 08:01, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Ed Vega

Tony,

The editor that restored his tags on Nelson Antonio Denis (after you removed them) has also placed tags on the article Ed Vega.

I helped to improve the article with newspaper quotes, format, and the placement of photos.

I knew Ed Vega and he was a good man. But he died in August 2008, and so I do not have "a close connection to the subject," unless Ed is visiting me from beyond the grave.

I don't believe the article about Ed Vega (who is not here to defend himself) should receive this tagging.

The tags were placed without any discussion or explanation. They have nothing to do with the merits of the article, and certainly have nothing to do with Ed Vega's life.

RE:McClintock

Tony, that's great news. Maybe a long term solution can come up out of this. It would be nice to connect these images and the ICP collection with the appropriate Wikipedia article without so much discussions. --Jmundo (talk) 22:07, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

ICP Images

Wow, I had no idea since the ICP does copyright some of its work. By the way, now that you mention it, did they ever respond to the e-mail? I know that a part of Wikipedia has been ungrateful for our work, but creating the library would be of use for external work as well. - Caribbean~H.Q. 20:04, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. —Ed (talkmajestic titan) 06:18, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

  • I don't have the time for this. If the article is demoted, so be it. I am content with my work in it as is and for me it will always be a featured article which appeared in the main page no less. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:30, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
    • I'm sorry Tony, but I spotted the problems and decided to nominate it. Could you at least comment on this point? "Second, I'm not sure this article should be an article; can anyone give me another example of an article about the citizens of a country in a war? I can't find any besides Hispanic Americans in World War II (also written by Tony); otherwise, the only ones I can find are about countries in wars, like Military history of Canada during the Second World War." Again, I'm sorry for all this, but that's the nature of FARs. —Ed (talkmajestic titan) 06:34, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Enectalí (Tali) Figueroa-Feliciano

Hello Marine 69-71, I noticed that you (used to) have some content about Enectalí (Tali) Figueroa-Feliciano. Were you planning on putting it into article space? Would you (re?)consider doing so? The more NASA biographies we have, the better off we are, in my opinion... Regards,
— V = IR (Talk • Contribs) 05:50, 27 February 2010 (UTC)

Hello Ohms law, how are you? I once wrote the article about Enectalí (Tali) Figueroa-Feliciano, the same content that you saw in my workshop, and had it in the mainspace. A deletionist believed that he wasn't notable enough and nominated the article for deletion (AfD). When I noticed the that the trend was going to lead to its deletion, I copied it and posted the article in my workshop (where you saw it). Needless to say the delete votes won and the article was deleted from the mainspace, something which I still resent. I posted some of the content in the article Puerto Ricans in the United States Space Program. Recently, I decided to no longer make anymore written contributions as a result of all the hazzle that I've been through in the last three months and that is why I was closing my workshops where you happened to notice that the content of Enectalí (Tali) Figueroa-Feliciano, whose work I admire, has been removed. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:12, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, after seeing this, I did a search at AFD and located Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Enectali Figueroa. I have to say that I was a tad surprised at the result based on a cursory glance through that AFD... until I really started reading the couple of "delete" votes. At least the main points are on Puerto Ricans in the United States Space Program (and I think there's a snippet someplace else as well). Would you mind if I kept a copy in my own user space though, until I could add to his article or connect him with another article? It'd be best if you'd create the page though, in order to maintain attribution. Let me know!
— V = IR (Talk • Contribs) 06:21, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
  • It would be fine with me if you want to keep a copy of the article in your own user spce, I don't mind at all. If you can add enough content to the article where it can servive in the mainspace, I think that something can be worked out. You let me know and if you wish then I will once more post the original article on the mainspace and you can immediately make your own fixes and we'll both share its creation. Or, you can post it in the mainspace, either way it will be fine with me. Tony the Marine (talk) 06:34, 27 February 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to hang on to it, if you're not going to be around. It'll probably be a little while before I get around to actually editing it, however. The best thing to do would probably be to re-create it as a subpage in your userspace and then move it to User:Ohms law/Enectalí Figueroa-Feliciano.

RE: Mercy

Tony, well -- what can I say? -- a man's gotta do what he's gotta do! It has been a pleasure working with you and learning a lot in the way. Thank you for all your help, in too many ways to list here. You are truly a friend and will be sorely missed. Hopefully --ñif, ñif-- you will miss us too and someday, when things get more reasonable around this place, you will find your way back here.

The Teatro Puerto Rico article demostrates to me once more, what seems to be a fountain of knowledge that doesn't stop flowing from your brain (wow! that was profound!!!) hee, hee. Listen I learned a lot from that article that I did not know. Es triste, pero a la misma vez hermoso, remontarse a esos tiempos. Gracias por el articulo. I have made my own little contribution to it, in the little way that I could. Take care amigo, and hopefully our paths will cross again. Thanks, Mercy11 (talk) 03:06, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Listen, you shouldn't worry about that Damiens guy (nor the other two cowards that supported him). He is a nobody around here. The guy is sick; that's why he has to make a big splash wherever he goes. If he doesn't get noticed he withers and dies. He lives off trying to make others miserable. When no one pays him any attn, he will go bug somewhere else. Hey, you and I know his only good skill is knowing to be nasty to others that are nice to him. What better signs of a coward than that and then hiding behind the veil of wanting to improve the encyclopedia? Pa'l carajo con eso! Didn't you see how the guy ran with the tail between his legs when we turned up the heat on him? Bet you never saw him responding to my edits, did you? No way! He did it once and learned not to do it again! Look, I know you are more experienced than me around here, and you really deserve a trophy for your patience with that good-for-nothing, but on this one I am right: you should stick to your guns when you know you are right. Tony, I read about JMundo and the others, but whatever happened to Cerejota, is he still around this place? I though he was into this also. Maybe you can stick around as a,,, you know, a consultant of sorts. Is really the level you belong... Sort of like saints, you know they get cannonized after being so good for so long, they get elevated to above us mortals, you belong up there too. hahahaha For example, I created the Barrios of Ponce that you helped me put together into a category. But now I ned the flag of Ponce into the infobox of the articles, right along with the US and PR flags. But it has to be a tiny little flag. How is it done? I'ron-no. I suspect a certain template has to exist or get created, but do you how is done or who does it? Maybe you cna point me in the right direction... Be well my friend, Mercy11 (talk) 02:58, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Hummmm, thanks for that little clever trick...There's more to this WP than meets the eye.... Now, I say this, the infobox already existed, and I have added one to the workshop thinggy you created for bariio Anon as a reference. What I would like to do is add the flag of Ponce into the article's infobox text,,, so it will display below the flag of PR in the infobox itself. I think I need a new template called FLAG-OF-PONCE or something similar. Ah, one more thing,,, can other people go to my user page and see and get into my workshop? Oh, and the falg of Ponce is at [File:Ponce2.gif] Mercy11 (talk) 04:35, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Awesome! looks great!!! Thanks a million. I watched what you did - Thanks! First I thought the 1st one of the two, but on second thought it might give the impression that was the flag for the barrio in question so I used the second form. Hope you don't mind I already snatched it and began pasting it in all of the infoboxes. It's great!!! Also, just got rid of that huge, sort of "on-your-face" flag of Ponce messing up your nice user page, hope that's OK... will be in touch, Mercy11 (talk) 23:26, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
I am still puzzle about that workshop place...I logged in as anon and was able to get in and see everything. Maybe even edit the page but didn't go that far. Is that the way it is supposed to work? if so, what's the diff? I think I am missing something. Mercy11 (talk) 02:58, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks a million. This alone >>>> "relieved of the pressure of posting articles with a lot of mistakes and having people editing them as soon as I post them" is worth the ticket price many times over!!!! I think I will be using it more often! Then I won't have to make a million edits that drive everyone else crazy. :( Thanks and I hope everything else is well with you! Mercy11 (talk) 23:30, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

You're baaaack!

I see you're inching your way back into action. If that's the case, welcome back, Puerto Rico and our men and women in uniform sorely need you in wikipedia! Pr4ever (talk) 10:39, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Tony

Dude it's a pleasure writing this message, we talked about you in High school a lot during history class, I never thought I actually find you here, you're a living legend. Cheers friend! --201.230.84.151 (talk) 14:42, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Dude, thanks for the kind words and the pleasure is mine. Thank you for calling me a living Legend. I have been called a lot things before, both good and bad, but I don't think I'm a legend at all. I just like writting about the real truth of the Puerto Rican experience. Tell me about yourself and about what your class talked about (I hope it is good). Tony the Marine (talk) 17:18, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

¡Feliz cumpleaños! Best wishes for you and your family on this day. I will begin editing the teatro's article tomorrow in the night, the process might extend into Wednesday's morning, but they will be only minor tweaks. Hi Tony, I was wondering if you could take a look at Republican National Hispanic Assembly- there's an editor there, Mldean73, or something like that, who keeps blanking a whole section and other edits without providing an explanation. My understanding is that repeated blanking of pages or sections is vandalism, but I don't know how to use those templates. I did leave a friendly note on his/her page to come to the Talk section, but have been ignored. I don't know if this is a new user or an account created just to edit this one page. Any help is appreciated, thanks. Frank The Original Historygeek (talk) 16:39, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Tony, hopefully he/she will come to Talk and we can hash it out there. The Original Historygeek (talk) 00:45, 13 March 2010 (UTC)

Tony I am Delma Arrigoitia ,Ph.D. Retired Full profesor of the History Department at the University of Puerto Rico. I also have a J.D. degree. I have written three important books: Puerto Rico por encima de todo:vida y obra de Antonio R. Barcelo. Jose de Diego,el legislador and Eduardo Giorgetti y su mundo. The three of them were legislators and members of the Union de Puerto Rico . I can send you a copy of my biography of Barcelo. In this way you can add information I believe is very important.Of course I KNOW HE WAS NOT A BUILDER but one of Puerto Rico's most... important legislators. I studied all the bills he presented in the Senate and those that became laws.Through his legislation he made possible the Construction of El Capitolio. The architect was Rafael Carmoega. He made posible always THROUGH legislation the BARRIOS OBREROS,the state Penitentiary etc. A legislator has a purpose in his mind and he legislates selling land or buildings etc In this way the state gets the money to hire the architects and the builders. Barcelo legislated from 1917 to make a reality the dream of puerto rico having the capitol etc...Sincerely yours,Delma S. I did not receive your address in order to send you Barcelo's book. Please send it to. I would like Wikipedia to give information about Eduardo Giorgetti who is the subject of my second bio. Delma Arrigoitia15:52, 18 March 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Adrianbelle80 (talkcontribs)

Interestingly, the book titled "Antonio R. Barceló: Puerto Rico Por Encima de Todo" is among the books that I have waiting to be transcripted. - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

I added a huge "blob" of raw text to this article, most of the important information up to 1995 is there. However, we are lacking some information from 2000 to 2006. Any idea who could help us with those few years? - Caribbean~H.Q. 05:24, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

And speaking of baseball, we have another one of those "nationality" disputes at Mike Lowell. He was born in Puerto Rico and wanted to play for Puerto Rico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic, but some members of the Cuban exile in Florida (I ran a WHOIS to figure where all the vandalism was coming from, the result was Jacksonville, Florida) are opposing this fact because his father was born in Cuba. Although Carlos Lowell left Cuba as a teenager, even playing for Puerto Rico's national baseball team subsequently. Your help would be greatly appreciated. - Caribbean~H.Q. 06:11, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

No problem, definitely will respect how you had it. Just remember "Gautier" was her husbands name, I mean she was only a Gautier by marriage. By the way, there also people surnamed Gautier who've been living for centuries in Spain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.221.92.43 (talk) 19:44, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

  • Thank you for your message. The Gautier surname is a French surname as is Plumey. I agree with you that some Gautiers can be found in Spain, as the surname Brau, which originated from Germany and Power which originated from Ireland can also be found in Spain. That fact is that the Gautier surname originated from France, however since we are talking about Fela, then we can go on that the Plumey's originated from France. Take care, Tony the Marine (talk) 19:55, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

It may well be that Jose Maria Marxuach and Jose Monserrate Marxuach are the same person; all seems to be point in this direction, but yet no definitive, documentary proof. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.221.92.43 (talk) 07:31, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the corrections, only question remaining, was his middle name "Maria" or in fact "Monserrate,"

That's what I had suspected, I'd seen documents (online) from that time period referencing a Jose Monserrate Marxuach, but none referencing a Jose Maria. It could be that some archivist or government historian saw "Jose M. Marxuach" on some official document and simply assumed the "M" stood for "Maria," "Jose Maria" being a common enough name combination. A photo, if any exists, in the possession of the family could be compared with the official mayoral portrait for i.d. purposes (then again, brothers tend to look alike). This might be difficult to sort out. In any case, thanks again for checking.

P.S. If this gets solved you might want to contact someone in an official capacity to let them know of the mistake (assuming there is a mistake), in which case you would be getting due credit for your thorough investigative work. Just a thought.

P.P.S Just maybe, his full name might actually be: Jose Maria-Monserrate<first name< Marxuach Echavarria<last name<, in honor of Santa Maria de Montserrat in Catalonia (origin of his family). --72.221.92.43 (talk) 00:43, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

jose maria marxuach

Hi there, my name is Cathy Olsen and I am the great granddaughter of Amalia Marxuach Plumey. I am excited about the information that has just been posted about Jose Marxuach. I have been trying to figure out many things about him, but most importantly, the name Monseratte. In reading the talk page of 71.172.40.216, I discovered the email that once very partially came up on a google search but I could never click on. It is the one written by Margarita Marxuach de Dross. In it she mentions a post on Ancestry.com in the Marxuach and Plumey families message boards. I am the person that posted that information. I have a copy of the letter that was written by Acisclo Marxuach Plumey to the sister (Carmen) of my grandfather (Francisco). In it he states that his father was the mayor of San Juan. I should state that he writes his father's name as Jose M. Marxuach. My grandmother, Mary, Frank's wife, has recounted the family history to me and she used the name Monseratte as Jose's middle name. In the letter, written in 1966, it states that Josefina is his mother and she had past away already. In regards to a picture, I will tell you that I have recently received a copy of one from my aunt. She visited Puerto Rico over 30 years ago and was given copies of portraits of both Jose and Josefina. The original portraits, she was told, were buried with Josefina Plumey when she died. I was so excited when I saw the picture of Jose, as it must be the original picture that was used to paint the portrait you have posted on your wiki article. However, your portrait posted has him dressed more statesman-like, and the photo shows him in a tux. The face and hair is the same. I wonder why no one has had the original posted. I should tell you that Amalia was ostracized after she got a divorce and her kids, with the exception of Ramon, came to the U.S. I have had no contact with any of the Marxuach family except once I met two of my grandfather's sisters as a young teenager.I tried to get in contact with someone on the Marxuach.com blog but never received an answer. Anyway, I would be happy to provide a copy if you are interested. I don't know if this would upset the Marxuach family or not, but it might help someone who is trying to figure out the family roots like I have been doing.

I should tell you that I am not very computer literate in regards to wikipedia. I do have an account, granio, and so I guess that means I automatically have a talk page. I am not sure. I do look forward to your response. Regards, --Granio (talk) 19:26, 26 March 2010 (UTC) granio

Help Requested

I seem to be fighting an uphill battle with administrators with a bias. I am hoping to find an administrator that I can have a dialogue with concerning these issues. Maybe you are that administrator?

Here is my story: I am a big history fan. I love the detail Wikipedia allows in that area. However, I have a pet peeve with the back-and-forth date style use (BC/AD vs BCE/CE.) It becomes very distracting to read articles that are not consistent in their format. In reading the WP:ERA I found the policy of Wikipedia on this topic. Basically, whichever style is used first, that style should not be change without a substantial reason. This makes perfect sense since both date styles are considered offensive to one group or another, and edit wars are bound to happen. Knowing this, I have reverted a few articles to their original format. In doing so, I have been blocked by administrators, and publicly insulted by some too. It is always a losing battle for me, which is unfair because I am following the rules, and they are not. As an administrator, what advice do you have for me? (Jgw71 (talk) 22:06, 28 March 2010 (UTC))

  • Sorry, but I am not currently very active in Wikipedia for the reasons stated in the beginning of my talk page and I'm only tying loose ends to my articles. Tony the Marine (talk) 00:35, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Is there a fair minded and mature administrator you can recommend? (Jgw71 (talk) 19:57, 29 March 2010 (UTC))

Wall of Honor

After the various ups and down around this place I am humbled to receive this. I am not one with great speeches, but this is truly special for me.
What is really unique about receiving this is who is bestowing it, as I considered it already a great honor just getting it, but especially greater now because it comes from you. And then, and just when I thought the effect could not be surpassed, I looked at the people listed in your Wall of Honor -- giants in the world of Wikipedia -- and then I knew it was incomphrehensibly special that I was receiving this. I can say nothing more than "Thank you", which is the greatest speech that can be given when it comes from the heart! Thank you for thinking of me. Thank you for your dedication. Thank you for your support. Thank you for your guidance. Thank you. Thank you! Your friend, Mercy11 (talk) 22:30, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

José Rivera (playwright) Article

Tony,

This is in regard to your latest edit and statment, "No need for Refs on DoB" in the José Rivera (playwright) Article. It is my understanding that "References" are used to indicate the place where the specific information was found, and "External links" are for sources where additional, or supplementary, information on the subject can be found. Therefore, I believe the DoB should be referenced since both dates of both Birth and Death are often disputed. -- Michael David (talk) 12:52, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Second thoughts: I've been thinking over the matter some more, and realized that, following my logic, you'd have to reference each Birth and Death date, and that that would make for a lot of clutter. I still, however, don't think that kind of data belongs as an External link. And that, actually, it's more appropriate as a Source. So I'm going to change my original reference edit to a Source. -- Michael David (talk) 14:26, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Re:

Hey Tony, I'm currently working with a book about the Cangrejeros de Santurce. Real life is a bit more complicated. After moving between countries twice, studying my brains off and passing a "revalida", I find myself disappointed with the lousy treatment that the patients receive in this field. It has been at least seven to eight months since I began thinking this way, but paying for education in something without having the passion for it has been bothering me lately. After pulling some strings, I am being offered an scholarship in law, but I need to complete a two-to-three-years-long Juris Doctor (12 credits) degree to enter the UPR's Escuela de Derecho . Interestingly, besides the LSAT test, the promedio required is a rather low 3.30. With my current education I can pay a law school to complete the Juris Doctor. My mother has told me for years that I should have been a prosecutor, but I choosed the familiar line for some reason, maybe she was right. However, I am actually more interested in international law, which besides being interesting, might also open a door in the field of politics down the line. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:06, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

By the way, I remember that Eduardo Georgetti was mentioned somewhere in Muñoz Rivera's book, but I had no idea that he had a biography. - Caribbean~H.Q. 02:12, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Thanks Tony, that's a huge compliment coming from someone like you. - Caribbean~H.Q. 01:21, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Hila Levy full protection

Hi, would you have any objections if I either removed the protection from Hila Levy, or reduced it to semiprotection? I'd prefer to try unprotection, but if you think there is any lingering possibility of vandalism or BLP problems, semiprotection should be more than adequate, while still allowing it to be edited constructively. Thanks. --Bongwarrior (talk) 01:11, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Talk Page deleted

Hello Tony, Hope everything is well!
Hey, I am wandering if you could help me out a bit. Seems someone deleted a talk page [1], and (seems) that unlike deleting an article page, there is (it seems) no BOT that automatically tags it, recreates it etc. My question is, how do you "undo" a talk page delete? Do you know? At a minimum, I'd like to see what was in that page prior to the delete. Thanks! Mercy11 (talk) 00:30, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Jamestown Marker

Hi Tony,
In here >>> [2], the various notes should say April 6 (SIX) - 10, as the marker says. The problem is that the notes say April 5 (FIVE) - 10. I don't know how to fix it; maybe you do. Take care, Mercy11 (talk) 00:53, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

H/L Americans

Tony, ¿cómo le va?

Nice additions to Hispanic and Latino Americans again. Question: Did you remove Jose Rodriguez on purpose (here)? Is it that you don't think he belongs in the "Military" section, or in the article at all?

In the Music section, the Herman Santiago treatment feels like undue weight, because so many Hispanics have written hit songs. Feliciano's Feliz Navidad does seem like a good thing to mention, because it's so unique.

In Film, etc, I knew I'd forgotten one of the greats: José Ferrer! Thanks for adding him. SamEV (talk) 02:09, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Hey, I love Ritchie Valens, and if Santiago was a pioneer too, that would be great! I'll try and find out more about him, then.

I bet there are many people out there, of all ethnicities, who don't ever imagine that Latinos are spies, too, let alone that they're that high up. So thanks about Jose Rodriguez. SamEV (talk) 03:46, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Tony, you're a mind reader. I was thinking that maybe the Herman Santiago bit should be edited along the same lines.

From what I read about him, it seems fair to call him a pioneer. Although an incipient form of rock may have appeared in the 1930s, rock is usually thought of as having really emerged in the mid-1950s, and that's the same time when The Teenagers burst on the scene. Besides, Frankie Lymon is called a pioneer by some, so why not Herman Santiago, who wrote him his big hit? Also, Santiago (like his Teenagers mates) is in rock's hall of fame.

On another subject, Tony, I can't claim to be in the brother category with you. I'm really more in the "son" category. You'd even defended the USA in a great and terrible war before I came into this world. Either way, I'm glad you consider me a friend.

And though it's very belated, Happy Birthday! SamEV (talk) 06:24, 8 April 2010 (UTC)

Gianni Poggi: a new "Paoli case?"

I ask you value last review of Gianni Poggi page; i think that very disputable and not correct for Wikipedia. Thank for attention. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.222.115.60 (talk) 04:47, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

  • The correct thing to do is to notify the creator of the article (which I did) about the situation. I would like to hear his/her opinion, however it seems to be the same case as Paoli where the user is placing unsourced second hand opinion and POV's. Thank you for your concern - I have removed the info as it has no place in an encyclopedia article whether true or false. Best. --Marleau (talk) 11:43, 7 April 2010 (UTC)
