Brick & mortar

You marked this page for speedy deletion, with the reason "this entry already exists; see Bricks and mortar business". However, "this entry already exists; see Bricks and mortar business" is not currently a criterion for speedy deletion on Wikipedia, so I have removed the tag.

The best way to deal with a page that duplicates content already on Wikipedia is to make it a redirect. To do this, just replace all the text of the article with #REDIRECT [[target page]]. I have done this for Brick & mortar, so you don't have to.

Edit of DarkMetal MUSH

Why select the DarkMetal MUSH article for deletion?

Because it's completely non-notable in every way, and almost more of an advertisement than an encyclopedic entry. Kicking222 17:30, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

There's already established and similar articles for FiranMUX and CajunNights. DarkMetal is an extremely notable MUSH in the community and has been around for 10+ years.

First off, in addition to me tagging the page for deletion, an admin had to agree with it needing to be deleted, or else it wouldn't have been. But all right, I'll run with this one. If you want to recreate the page, I won't tag it for deletion, but if somebody else does, then so be it. Personally, I don't think those other MUSHes should have pages, either. But, of course, I'm just one of many millions of Wikipedians. With all of that said, don't make a page that's just an advertisement/spam. It's one thing to make a page, but it's another to make that page unencyclopedic. So... whatever. If you want the page, then sure, what the hell? Kicking222 15:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

ecademy

Hoi,
For whatever reason you branded the ecademy article as "advertisement". Since I started, the article has been deleted for obscure reasons and the new text has been changed quite a lot. To my opinion it is a nice enough article. For your information, I am not a member of the eCademy and I have never been a member either so there is no direct benefit for me in there..

I am looking into effective ways of doing networking; given that the project I am particularly active in [http:wiktionaryz.org WiktionaryZ] is interested in working together with both people and organisations it is of importance for me to check out the networks that exist. Speedy deletion

I noticed that you tagged the page Lasertron for speedy deletion with the reason "spamvertisement for a non-notable company with two web sites below 1.5 million in Alexa ranking". However, "spamvertisement for a non-notable company with two web sites below 1.5 million in Alexa ranking" is not currently one of our criteria for speedy deletion, so I have removed the speedy deletion tag. Another of the articles cited in the press section [1] states that it was directed by Will Slocombe of the award-winning student film “Stoke Mechanics”, but google shows no evidence that film existed or received any award. Deleting Music Artist Pages

Hey there.

I'd like to encourage you look over an artist page and explore its links before you mark it for deletion. I'm also wondering what you might consider "notable" as far as a music artist is concerned. Surely an artist, while maybe "underground" in popularity is still notable if he/she/they have played at a number of concerts/clubs/festivals/raves and have released works on a number of labels? Furthermore I'd like to say that wikipedia acts for many people as a discovery tool to find out about music they otherwise would have never before come across. I agree that not every garage band or DJ should have their own page, but artists who have contributed something to whatever scene they belong to (and have released albums that are being distributed) deserve a place on wikipedia.

Hi, why have you tagged the Misl article? If there is anything you don't understand, you can ask me and I will answer your questions, I am a expert in Sikh history. Then you can put that data into article and remove the tag. As a Sikh and most Sikh people would not have a problem understanding the article.

No offence taken my friend. In fact I am impressed with your curiosity. Quick crash course, The region around Punjab (INDIA/PAK) was ruled by the Mughal Empire (Muslim Empire). The first stages where Ok the ruler were good e.g. Akbar. However, the later emperors where very discriminatory against non-Muslim e.g. Hindus and Sikhs. This discrimination would have to pay much higher taxes than Muslim and the threat of death and execution if the non-Muslim did not convert to Islam become Muslim. The force did work against the Hindus but not against the Sikh. This is because Sikhs come from a warrior culture (Martial). Sikhs are one of the most highly decorated soldiers in History e.g. won a lot of Victoria crosses and India's highest military awards for bravery. Sikhs fought in World War 1 and 2 (producing the largest volunteers army in history). They fought along side American and British troops against the Germans. They won more Victoria Cross per head than any one in the British Army. Sikh make up 2% of India’s population but make up 15% of the Indian Army and most them are officers. The current chief the Indian Army is a Sikh General JJ Singh. Therefore, under this context Mughal Empire created a powerful enemy, which in the end bought the whole empire down. The Sikhs come from Punjab region of the sub-continent. Once the Mughal Empire was destroyed, the Sikhs around Punjab had Nobel Miltary leaders (Barons). Each Baron has his own Small kingdom and army e.g. 20000 men. These armies had individual names e.g. Bhangi. The Sikh word for these armies in general was MISLS that were loyal to their master their Nobel Baron. Does this go some way the provide you with more info and understanding? Ask more questions I will happy to answer them :-)

Here's the thing, though, those are things that those people did and it's drastically after the fact (btw, I'm voting for keep in this article), but I mean, this is describing interests that someone has. It's not anything that she has done, by describing someone's interests like that it sounds like a little snippet from a local newspaper. The other examples you listed are asorted fascinating facts or "trivia," which I heavily defend. But this is just someone's interests, it's hardly encylopedic, it's not something she did or something that makes some go, "huh." Another issue is that it's currently occuring with her, and things like become "interesting" when someone pursues a new field. It does get difficult though when someone does something interesting. I'm glad that there's a system in place for this sort of dispute as well; it's exhausting trying to discuss with somebody who chooses to revert rather than explain themselves (I really was ready to give up on the article). This may sound a little silly, but is it wrong for me to be a little glad that the NYT article presented me as the more rational editor in the dispute? Also, about my talk page, I think the administrator assumed that the article you told me about referred to me by my real name and said that I lived in New York City (I don't), and I completely understand that because it's better to be safe than sorry and I wouldn't want personal details like that being on Wikipedia. Mike is a person

I'd prefer that your article include typical encyclopedic details, like your birthdate, schooling, and other contributions, and I'd suggest those as ways to improve your article. But I think it is verifiable that you are a person, so I'd not argue for deletion. There is plenty of room for you in Wikipedia. I bet it would not be hard to get reputable secondary sources to verify that you are a person. Why delete your entry? To me, value comes not from the existence of your entry, but the info in it, whether it is read, or whether it is linked to. snug 21:23, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

One of the items of advice somewhere in all the Wikipedia info is not to bother commenting when you have nothing to add... so often I don't vote if I agree with the sense of the existing voting. I do tend to vote keep when delete is the trend, in part because we only have lists of `articles for deletion' and not `articles for keeping' and in part because I do think there are a number of unreasonable deletions. HOW DO I KNOW?

Kicking222: How do I know you read this? At other discusions, the person says, "It may not be read." NOW: I see where you offer to delete my article. Please note there is no OR problem with this article. Your research should have saw to that, I don't know what happened. As for POV, it is the point of view of millions in the Great Lakes area - the chemical pollution problems at Sarnia, and there are at least the point of view of the refineries themselves who are, as the article relates wanting and attempting to fix "Chemical Valley." speedy delete

Okay, old friend, help me out here. 'An article can be speedily kept ONLY if one or more of the following holds:' And in the case I was certain I was using it correctly (as opposed to the time I meant STRONG but wrote SPEEDY), 'the nominator withdraws the AFD and there have been no votes to delete so far.' I guess the nominator didn't so much WITHDRAW as say they weren't really voting to delete it, only to process it and clear it. I was trying to get the AfD removed to clear up space for other work. What cases do you think the rules mean to use the speedy vote (because, as I believe we all have experienced in our lives, just because rules are spelled out for us doesn't always mean we know exactly how to apply them). Grand Theftendo

Hi, you asked about my "Delete Recreate the article if/when the game is actually released and has gotten some press coverage. Wp:not#Wikipedia_is_not_a_crystal_ball" comment. I didn't mean that the game hadn't gotten any press coverage now, I meant that if it is released, we could then use any press coverage after it comes out to base an article on. Being that it is a fan made mod in development, there's a good chance it will never be finished. Oh, I know, I meant an outside image. By no access I mean that I live in Northern Ireland and the closest BAE site is in the north of England. Committed as I am to WP, I'm not paying for a flight/ferry trip just to take a picture! I've heard about their picture policy — I remember reading about a party at their shipyard celebrating the progress of the first of a new class of UK nuclear attack sub. Somebody else queried that too! I just have an interest in the defence industry in general. As far as BAE goes, it interests me for several reasons:

1. It is the successor to almost all of the UK's major aviation companies (predecessors built the Spitfire, the first jet airliner, the original Harriers, the RAF's current main strike aircraft the Tornado).
2. The merger that created BAE joined British Aerospace with Marconi Electronic Systems, itself the successor of many of the UK's most important defence electronic companies. Including the infamous The Marconi Company.
3. It is involved in the Eurofighter Typhoon and the F-35 Lightning II — two interesting projects in their own right.
4. It is one of the UK's largest companies and the 4th largest defence contractor in the world, impressive given the might of the US defence industry.
5. It's move into the United States is interesting. By the purchase of Lockheed Martin Aerospace Electronic Systems and Tracor (to name a few) BAE Systems Inc. now is the successor to many famous American companies.

Regarding this edit, I don't believe that anything I said was a personal attack. I was making what I consider an extremely valid point. I did not claim that you're a bad person, or a bad Wikipedia editor, or that you absolutely (or even probably) have an agenda. I questioned your motives, which I believe I am fully within my rights to do. Your main rationale for deletion is that it's "Colbertcruft" and that the article was "created to make The Colbert Report seem more popular than it actually is." Not just is that grasping at straws, but it's also arguing that the people who have worked hard to improve the article do so merely due to political motives, and not to improve Wikipedia. What I said was not an attack- it was a justified response to an attack on a number of editors who want to make this encyclopedia better. -- Kicking222 17:04, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, what you said very much was against the WP:NPA rule. This is clearly covered under WP:NPA#Examples_of_personal_attacks: Specific examples of personal attacks include but are not limited to: [...] Using someone's affiliations as a means of dismissing or discrediting their views — regardless of whether said affiliations are mainstream or extreme. Regarding my reference to it as "Colbertcruft", I fully admit I think there's wayyyy too much Colbert-related material on Wikipedia, but there's nothing political about me having an opinion on that, since it's just a TV show; you're acting as if I'd called it "Democratcruft" or something like that, in which case you'd have a point. (And by the way, I happen to watch the Colbert show; I don't hate the guy. I think you're making a mistake in arguing that only liberals can watch and enjoy that program.) you seem like you need some happy pills

I often get fed up with wikipedia too, esp. the inclusionists and red-tape-lovers, but keep the faith my friend. At worst, the most we're doing is making their life hard, and forcing people to cleanup articles. At best, we're slowly attacking the mass numbers of school articles and we're going to make some progress. I don't let anyone get my goat, I don't lose my cool, and just keep on proposing deletion for stuff that doesn't deserve an article, and when a PROD gets removed, I take it to AfD if I think I can win. Sure, I'm not going to win every battle, but I'm reducing the number of articles on this encyclopedia faster than they are being created(I hope). Don't loose heart, we can still make this a better website.

BAE Systems (again)

Hi. You made some very constructive suggestions on this article's FAC

I've had a look over the FAC. I think all of the objections have been addressed:

• Lists — Dramatic difference between this version (pre-FAC) [2] and the current version. [3]
• History section too short and only one subsection — Fixed. Including expansion (as per your suggestion) of how and why the merger came about. Namely GEC's desire to sell Marconi Electronic Systems and British Aerospace's fear that an American company would buy it and become a major competitor in the UK market.
• "Odd edit link" — I'm assuming that has been fixed, I haven't noticed one.
• "Refs do not use cite php format" — Fixed
• Quotes should not be in italics — Fixed
• Reorganisation suggestions followed.
• Criticism too short — It could do with more, but I have expanded it a lot since the FAC. Pre-FAC [4] and the current version BAE Systems#Criticisms

I'm not proposing to rush into a FAC right away. I know there are still improvements to be made. However it has come a long way since August and would welcome any suggestions. Many thanks. Mark83 21:52, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Not to be pissy, but could you please refrain from calling ideas held by a large number of Wikipedians "stupid"? It's an easy word to throw at something you don't agree with, but the actual arguments in your comment such as "Almost every school that ever existed has some notable alumni" are much easier to discuss, and resorting to name calling just demeans the good points you have. Talk page policy

On a completely unrelated note, I also completely object to your policy of having a user who posts to your talk page to watch your page. Why could you not have the common courtesy to post to their talk page, so that the system will tell them when they have a new message? People have other things to do on WP than to constantly reload your talk page in the hopes that you'll answer them. Of course, that's just my opinion. If someone is kind enough to reach out to you (and I am honestly trying to elicit discourse, not to attack you or tell you you're fundamentally wrong or anything of the sort), you should reach out to them. -- Kicking222 01:18, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

I have posted the notice on my page to make it clear how I intend to maintain conversations, complete with a note that I'm willing to comply with those who request otherwise. Why have you chosen to phrase this as a conflict rather than a simple request instead? You're the first to have a problem with this.

My default preference is that conversations remain unfragmented on the page where they started. I am disappointed that you chose to phrase this as a confrontation rather than simply follow the simple instructions posted at the top of my talk page.
