Problem?[edit]

A problem with Turks? An obsession or another thing? --Salahana 14:10, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

from Ssilvers[edit]

Hi, thanks for your message re: Iolanthe and Mount Ararat. Anywhere is OK with me. There should probably be references back and forth. Since this is just a fun reference to a comic work of theatre, it is not that important, just an amusing reference. W.S. Gilbert, the playright, was making an oblique biblical reference by naming a character after the place where the Ark came to rest. He also may have been implying that the character was stubborn and immovable, like a big mountain. Thanks! --Ssilvers 15:15, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

from Soso[edit]

Hi , I just wanted let you know that I have created an artcle about Georgian Bagrationis already "Bagrationi Dynasty" and I want to link "Bagrationi" link to the proper article. However, you keep changing it to "Bagratid Dynasties" link. I think there should be a link "Bagratid" link, which goes to "Bagratid Dynasties" and "Bagrationi" link should go to "Bagrationi Dynasty". That's why I was blocked for 24 hours because I changed it three times in a row. I am going to change it and if you disagrees with that, please discuss it with me first before you decide to link it.
Regards
Soso

The reason that I created separate page for Bagrationis (Georgian dynasty) is that Bagrationis were Georgian Kings, so I think that there should be separate article about Georgian Bagrtionis and Armenian Bagrtids. So that people can find out more about the monarchs of Georgia and Armenia. Many royal families in Europe are related to one another, so since Georgia and Armenia are different countries they should have different articles about their monarchs. However, I am not saying that Bagrationis and Bagratids do not have connections and I have nothings against Armenian culture, because it is quite unique and they have a great history. My point is that Bagrationis and Bagratids should have different encyclopedia articles. "Bagrationis" were georgian branch of the royal family, so I think that the link "Bagrationi" should go to the aticle "Bagrationi Dynasty". Sincerely Soso

Re: Sumgait[edit]

Well I was hoping that you could read the sections entitled "Triggers and Antecedants" and "Pogroms" and see if there is any violations in neutrality as GM claims there is. And also read the following talk posted primarily by me, Fadix, and GM. Thanks.--MarshallBagramyan 05:44, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Armenian Genocide[edit]

My edits were already discussed and not contested in principle. You can check archive 9 point 34. I hope you revert the article back to the earlier version. Deepblue06 06:22, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the title Turkish intellectuals and historians is not the best choice of words. Because in what follows, there is a list of western historians (professors of history) who do not accept genocide claims. Given that this section is already a subsection of position of Turkey. I believe repeating the word Turkish intellectuals is redundant. A better title would position of historians (remember we are in the subsection of opposing views). I'm not saying that this is the best choice, but I truly believe that it's better than "position of Turkish intellectuals and historians". Aren't historians already intellectuals? All of the list includes historians which I believe would be a better choice of word. Best Deepblue06

I believe that a better outline should have a subsection under Turkey's position named Western historians. I opposed to the word Turkish intellectuals on two grounds. (i) The list includes many western historians (actually, the list only has one Turkish historian, the others are all western). (ii) This is already a subsection of Position of Turkey. But I don't see this as a major problem, I can live with the way article stands on this issue. Best, Deepblue06 17:48, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the Turk thing[edit]

Hey what up dude. Lol, I'm actually working on the Turkmen and History of Turkmenistan articles, but I don't think those are really all that controversial. I gotta say that was a bit disjointed and the Azeris, at least in the north, do cluster with the Armenians and others in their immediate area. I'll check that out later though. Man, that's just weird regarding the possible banning from articles. Well, at least you made it out alive. I generally don't do edit wars myself so much. Too much trouble. So are you still going to out with the Turkmen etc.? It's risky, but I think you'll survive. ;) Tombseye 17:48, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you sent the same message to the other dude who was reverting my changes because they are not properly cited (even though I have written the source in the talk page). I guess you are on the anti-Turk camp as well.

Wooo wooo. Now your making some big accusations and assumtions. WHat authority do you have to state that I am the guy who had the biggest problem with him? I hads no problem with him I had a problem with his edits and biased POV and racism. This is an abstract issue. What are you trying to say. How have you offended me. Why are you sorry. There is no conflict here. WHat type of picture are you trying to paint? Are you saying I am being hostile? Because that is an accusation and can even be argueably uncivil. My name? How would you know my name? You are making a lot of assumtions. I was trying to help you and defending you!!!! What are you trying to do here? 72.57.230.179 02:21, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Then kindly answer all my questions. The other user said you play games and I said you don't especially in light of your probation for unfavoured behaviour. Now please answer my questions as stated. Are you sure. Where do you get off saying I had the biggest problem with him? Saying I don't like a user is one thing and saying I have a problem with his edits is something else. How do you measuure? Do you have a device to see which user had the biggest problem. How can you tell if someone is mad or sad over the net? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WHY DID YOU BRING HIM UP. I AM INSULTED! Why did bring him up? Please do not patrionize me. I AM INSULTED BUT INDIFFERENT. 72.57.230.179 02:47, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not so fast. NO YOU DID NOT ANSWER THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: WHY DID YOU BRING UP ACUMAN? WHat is your rational for it? WHat is your excuse? 72.57.230.179 02:54, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you already know based on thjose things you would know I was talking to the Admin on his ban. So why would you bring it up.? You even verify here that I was interested and knew what happened to him. SO why bring it up? 72.57.230.179 03:00, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Osmanli[edit]

There is a lot of politics going into these terms. People are trying to come up with definitions to open spaces for their own existence (or their definitions). In this case, the question is how the coverage of definition is formed. I can tell you that definition did exist in pre-nationalism terms. As you can guess it had a different formation than what people are trying to come up with NATIONALISTIC perspective. I do not know what you are trying to point at. I had no time to look at that definition, and I do not believe you can stop these people to come up with their own. Hope this is an enough explanation.--OttomanReference 19:20, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Osmanli is a tribe among 12 tribes that come to anatolia (check seljucks). Osmanli is a sub group of Turks that form the empire, which (questionable) republic of turkey ended their rule. Problem can be fixed with a dab page.--OttomanReference 19:28, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Look at the sources[edit]

These are sources and it is upsourd that I have to verify for simple things. Maybe we should verify the term American or that the UK is a country. I know you knew the term was Azarr. The term was also on the article before I even addressed it to, but when I say the majority use it due to political motives I am forced to verify. This is obvious gaming by certain parties and is unexceptable because it seems insincer. Maybe we should ask for Administration involvement. 72.57.230.179

It's time you get some recognition for your persistent struggle to keep Middle Eastern population statistics free of nationalist bias. I'm sure the Berbers of Algeria, and just about every Lebanese sect there is agree with me that you deserve a Barnstar. Arre 05:36, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How clever of you to spot that this was a copyvio - the same user has turned it into an article History of the Ndebele people which I tagged for merging with Ndebele people (South Africa). I'll go back and rv my tags and tag the page as a copyvio. Humansdorpie 12:52, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Obediah Mlilo; no hits on JSTOR, but he is almost certainly the S.O. Mlilo listed as author of two Ndebele-language books in the SOAS library catalogue. Did you have second thoughts about the AfD? My view is that notability is inferred by the fact that Mlilo had at least two works published by one of the pre-eminent Zimbabwean colonial-era publishers, and was apparently made a Regional Hero - an honour announced in the Zim Govt Gazette, and one that carries considerable status. It would be nice to see some additional verification, but of course ease of verification is where African candidates for articles are often disadvantaged! Greier[edit]

Look, just leave the article on the Aromanians. I really cannot be bothered to go through the negotiations and if you don't want to, then don't get involved either. If he wants it all that bad, then let him have it. He's already violated the 3RR - I'm not going to report him and I don't think you should until he does something he shouldn't be doing. I would probably also violate the 3RR if I'd written that much to have it just rolled back. What he has written is not that bad, but it does need filtering (I just can't be bothered to do it). BTW check your e-mail. --Telex 19:41, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Personal attacks[edit]

It is against wikipedia policy to attack the character of another editor, so anytime you see someone violate this, there is no questions that they should apologize and erase what they wrote. If certain POV pushers try to intimidate editors who disagree with their views, we will lose any credibility that wiki has as an encyclopedia. Therefore, we must be tough on people who break such fundamental rules and think they can get away with it. Turks issue[edit]

Sheesh, you get the feeling that these peoples' pages are more trouble than they're worth? Always someone who comes along and, often having done little or no research or even reading the article, decides that they want to redefine something or other. Anyway, I'm always glad to help out. Say, when you have time to do a picture for Turkmen, do you have any idea what's going to be on there? I can only think of that whacko who's running the country, the so-called Turkmenbashi as I can't think of famous Turkmen except for this cat, Magtymguly Pyragy. Tombseye 01:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, I'm impressed with your Turkmen language skills! I remember you saying you were going to learn Turkish, is that still going through? Yeah Turkmenbashi is really strange, even for a dictator and reminds me of Alexander Lukashenko, only more wacky like he's living in some fantasy world where he gets to name everything and he controls everyone like a dungeon master from that old Dungeons and Dragons game. I wonder why he's not on the axis of evil as he makes Saddam look completely rational by comparison. I mean renaming bread? Come to think of it, maybe I should replace the references I used from the Turkmenistan embassy, although they did look okay. Yeah, the Turkmen did have an advantage when the Mongols came through and destroyed the cities and killed most of the remaining Iranian peoples. I think all the invasions had made them into a rural people, but probably the lure of jobs will turn them into urbanites soon enough. Hmm, as for the move from Oghuz to Oguz, I guess it would be okay. Although the main problem is that lots of Turkish words could also be altered, but might not reflect common usages in literature. I gotta admit though that I sometimes wonder why everything isn't simply written as it would be in other languages such as Deutschland rather than Germany etc. Anyway, sure go for it. We'll see what abdulnr has to say as he probably knows more about local Turkmen personalities since he grew up in Azerbaijan. Or maybe Grandmaster too. Tombseye 02:45, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was away and will be again for a week - but I am struggling to find a world renown personality in Turkmenistan worth mentioning - that is why for the picture I would like to add the generic turkmen girl in trad. attire. BUT: There are plenty of underreported heroes like banned writer Esenov or Boris Shikmuradov, leader of opposition languishing in a real dungeon. I think these people deserve mention? Turkmenbashi is mad but not suicidal, he knows how to choose friends, and stays clear of making trouble, and he has a lot of natural gas. This is in short an answer, why he will never be in the axis of evil.

I saw you using this tool and am going to give it a try -- any comments or advice would be welcome. --Moby 07:12, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Azeri vs Azeri[edit]

Hey Khoikhoi, I had an Azeri who requested that I step in a feudal match between him and Grandmaster, claiming that he is violating his freedom of expression on this board. I defered, hoping that you can resolve the conflict. Here is his message in its entirety:

Are you an Admin? If you are please look at the threats that user:Grandmaster is issuing towards me for freedom of expression. He is trying to manipulate the system against me because I am an Azari who does not believe the rheotoric from Ankara and the corrupt political elite of Baku. I am an Iranian not a Turk, just like the majority of Azaris view themselves. I do not believe that their are'Armenian terrorists.' I recognize the fact that Azaris are a kin to the Armenians too. When I show evidence and verify this user:Grandmaster threatens me or deletes my statemsnets on the talk page and tries to have me blocked. If you are an admin please mediate. His bias and propganda is terrible. User:72.57.230.179

I want the picture for Azari people to be reformated[edit]

I want Googosh in it as well or another Azari from Iran. It is high time this change should be done 72.57.230.179

The article is wrong both her parents even come from Baku 72.57.230.179
I looked at the article. It even say from Azarbaijan, but it is wrong. Plus we have a major problem were the word Persian and Iranian are being substituted for one another, a lot of the edits wars and misconsiptions on ethnicity are due to this. It is like substituting English and British or Russian and SOviet. She is not a Persian.

Googoosh was born Faegheh Atashin in 1951 on Sarcheshmeh Street, in an old and worn down part of Tehran, to Azerbaijani immigrant parents from the former Soviet Union. When she was two, they separated. Because of her father's profession - he was an acrobat and an entertainer - she grew accustomed to the stage early on, and was part of his act until she was three. She began doing impersonations of some of the singers of the time. When her father discovered this talent, he put her on stage. She has been on stage as a paid professional since she was three.

Also when writting to me or to any Iranian Azari please right Azari not Azeri, thank you. 72.57.230.179

Nizami[edit]

Hi

Thanks for the kind message. Actually the part that I meant was rude, was the part when Alexander (who is praised highly by many Muslims because he was believed to be the Dhul-Qarnain of the Qur'an) addresses the Turkish Khaghan on his way to conquer parts of Central Asia and Western China (Chinese Turkistan) :

It translates to (my rough translation): 1) He opened his mouth and cursed at Turks 2) and said: "Without discord/disbelief(fitnah) No Turk is born from a mother

3) do not expect anything from chinni except a movement of an eyebrow (In Persian poetry Chin refers to Uighyur western China and parts of Central Asia while Machin refers to mainland China. For example Ferdowsi calls the ruler of the Turks as Khaghan Chin) 4) because they are covenant-breakers and can not be trusted

5) The wise people of the past said it in truth 6) that there is no honor and faithfullness in chinni

7) They all have accepted Tang-Chesmi (meaning narrow eyes) (like in the mongolian race) (meaning also they can't see well..) 8) they have only seen greatness and wideness in the eyes of others

9) Have you not heared that their love is equal to hate 10) the heart of Turk-e-chinni is full of crookedness

11) If the Turk-chinni had any honor 12) then the earth would be clothed under chinn

The term Turk in Persian poetry is also used symbolically as a cruel lover. Sometimes since Turks were yellow and light skin (like many chinese), they are contrasted to Ethipions and Hindus. The same with Romans and Africans. That is a poet might compare himself to a Turk and call another a Hindu. For example Rumi says: "I am sometimes a Turk, sometimes a Hindu, sometimes a Roman, sometimes a Black-African..." and these are to be taken very symbolically. Turk here means beautiful/ruler, Hindu means slave/ugly, Roman means day and Black-African means night. Ann Marie Shimmel (sorry for the bad spelling) has a good article on this. Also at that time there was no Anatolian Turk or Azarbaijani turkic speakers, as the term "tang-chesm" (narrow eyed- slint eyes) is used many times all over by Rumi, Nizami, Sanai, Ferdowsi, Hafez.. and other Persian poets.

The reason I didn't translate the above part is because I did not want Azarbaijanis of the Caucus who are Iranian in culture and heritage but mainly Turkic in language (due to linguistic shift) to be offended. Interestingly enough, Nizami Ganjavi got big in the Caucus due to the efforts of Stalin. (He was always well known the Persian speaking world). They even tried to forge Turkish poetry and assign it to him! The poetry of Nizami was long translated to Russian, English, German, French, Arabic.. way before it was translated into Azarbaijani Turkish (only about 80 years ago). Either way now, he is know as the greatest figure of the Azarbaijan republic and Stalin and the current Azarbaijani government have invested a lot on him (and make up many silly arguments to try to make a him turk). The issue cameup during small revolts in Azarbaijan, Armenia and Georia during the era of Stalin. In order to pacify them, Stalin marked a day to celebrate the greatest figure from each land. Armenia and Georgia were no problem and they each presented a great figure. But no matter how hard the authorities of the republic of Azarbaijan tried, they could not come up with a great literary figure. They tried two times and no one of significance from the area had contributed to Azarbaijani Turkish poetry. Giving up, they looked for a great figure just from the area and all indicators pointed to Nizami Ganjavi and you know the rest of the story..Here is a link about Stalin and Nizami! (weired things happen when you mix Stalin with history..). Have a look : http://www.muslimsonline.com/babri/azerbaijan1.htm

Ah, you lucky sob, travelling is always great![edit]

Wish I was travelling more than inside the US this summer. Israel should be interesting regardless though as it's a fascinating country, even if I don't agree with their policies myself. They make some interesting films too. I saw one flick that was shown on the Independent Film channel about some Georgian Jews in Israel and how their son is this free spirited guy who falls for this hot older divorcee (and man was she hot), but has to break it off when his family find out about it and threatens to kill the divorcee and her daughter. He settles for keeping her as a mistress which is the 'proper' thing to do. While watching the film I really thought to myself how similar they seemed to the Levantine Arabs (such as the Lebanese, Palestinians, Syrians etc.) in various ways. Can't think of the damn name of the movie though. You should mingle with the Israeli Arabs while you're there just to get different perspectives on how life is there. I had a friend who went to the Occupied Territories too (and she's Jewish so pretty brave) and not just the settlements but including Bethlehem. Your being American should help with the chicks as I hear the nightlife is pretty good. Those poor Kalmyks. Sometimes I think they were better off having the Soviet Union as opposed to the weird situation today. Yeah, I guess we have to stick with the policies of wikipedia. Any interesting stopovers on the way to Israel? You should try Beirut as I hear, thanks to the Christians, their nightlife is jumpin' according to my Canadian friend who went to Iran to study up on the history of US intelligence in the region. Lucky bastard, they offered him a lecturing gig and he's only got a Master's degree (same as me)! Tombseye 05:32, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, that sounds like a cool anthropological opportunity. You could learn quite a bit about the locals as I did when I went to the North West Frontier Province. You could even take-over the articles for the Druze and Bedouin and just say that you've talked to them and you're an expert now. Heh heh. Yeah, I heard about that regarding the Dead Sea (so appropriately named). Say, you should go to the Hebrew University and Masada, but you probably already thought of that. The beaches might be cool, er, actually boiling hot this time of year. will they let you go to the Golan Heights? You could look down at Syria, no pun intended. Say, what do you think of the zillion userboxes I added to my page? Pretty insane right? I was going for mildly obessive compulsive, but whatever works. Later. Khoikhoi, what are you doing on Greek-speaking Muslims page for Christ's sake? Behemoth 00:37, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I made a new tiny edit to further explain the case. For, the fact is Pontic-speaking Muslims in Trabzon don't call themselves as "Pontic Greeks", in fact they call themselves nothing but refer to the language they speak as Roméika. The issue is highly sensitive. Perhaps you don't know, Trabzon is one of the places where Turkish nationalistic sentiment is extremely high. I hope you'll like the new formula. Ciao! Behemoth 13:10, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Also I reduced the figure for Pontic speakers. 100,000 seems to be inflated. Those regions where Pontic speakers live (interior villages of valleys) have a low population density in contrast to the littoral in Trabzon, which is one of the most densely populated locations in Turkey, where you may find people who are of "Pontic Greek-speaking descent" (to confirm the figure provided by Asan) but Pontic language had died there long time ago. Ciao! Behemoth13:17, 23 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Armenians_of_Lebanon[edit]

I have been trying to add some useful links such as a page dedicated to Lebanese of Armenian origins, under the section :

The link in question is http://www.leb.org/v3/search?words=Armenian And full listing at: http://leb.org/v3/armenian

But you keep deleting it... It is not a commercial site, try the link and you will understand; this has been helpfull for the Lebanese-Armenian community (yes, a huge one that we are proud of). I had added several other useful links that you deleted (under lebanese people and per lebanese village). I won't bother anymore anyways and leave it up to you. Thanks.

Nizami[edit]

Hi please look at the article. I have added some new information. Also I moved that authors ethno-centeric point of view into the discussion page and responded to every single point he has raised. BTW where are you from originally? --Ali doostzadeh 07:22, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for the link about original research. Unfortunately this person who is definitely anti-Armenian and somewhat anti-Iranian is trying to make up a lie. The fact is that Nizami Ganjavi was not even known in that country until Stalin made him big. The reason has to do with the fact that after some scuffles and etc.. the USSR decided to celebrate a great figure from Georgia, Armenia and the republic of Azarbaijan. Finding a famous Georgian and Armenian was no problem. But finding somebody that was famous and wrote in Turkish and was from the area was difficult. They tried several times and they couldn't find. So then all points indicated to Nizami Ganjavi and with Stalins backing and USSRs propaganda effort, the protest of Iranians and some Western Scholars got no where. The fact is these guys do not even understand one verse of Nizami.. Unfortunately this is not only common with Azarbaijan but also Turkey. Both these countries have tried to even make efforts in order to introduce Medes, Caucasian Albanians, Scythians, Summerians, Urartians, even Armenians, Elamites and lots of other groups as Turks. They even teach in that country that Avesta of Zoroaster is in old Turkic. Well don't want to give you a headache, thanks for the link. --Ali doostzadeh 23:40, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your compromise isn't satisfying at all. The name Chaldean came up with is truly nonsensical. Shouldn't there be something in Israel too? Also, there is a large Dari-speaking group in the North West Frontier Province (3/4 of them aren't even refugees, but native so we're talking about 750,000 people or something). They tend to live just north of the majority of Pashtuns near the Khowar. Just saying since you guys seem to been in development hell with the map. ;) Tombseye 19:06, 25 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Commenting on the Assyrians history page was worse than anything I said.[edit]

Read your own comments on the article's history page. In the words of Christ: Get the log out your eye before you try to get the sty out someone elses.شيطان

And I'm atheist. That wasn't a personal attack. That meant judge your own words before you attack mine. And that WAS vandalism. Most people don't want to read that language especially if it is an article about an ethnic group, it could be interpreted as you saying that it sucks because of the people, that is not nice.شيطان
Look I don't care to argue with you. You're not a moderator. I know what I said. I didn't attack him. I just felt that he proposed it for deletion for his own personal differences. I didn't say he was a baathi.

I've heard enough.[edit]

Now leave me alone. I got your point. Crucify me why don't you.شيطان

Azerbaijani people[edit]

Hi Khoikhoi. Why did you replace the photo of Mehriban Aliyeva with Khamenei? I don’t think that everybody would agree with that. If you want an Iranian Azeri, why not to include the poet Shahriar or singer Googoosh or scientist Lotfi Zadeh? I think it’s better to do without politicians, they are divisive, some like a certain politician, others don’t. I suggest we include Lotfi Zadeh, he’s a prominent USA scientist. Grandmaster 05:08, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many other articles used politicians as a representative of their ethnicity like Turkish people, Iranian People, German People. Also, I do not agree with selecting pop stars or celebrities as representative a race. Do you think, all American's are handsome like Tom Cruz, or all Turks are handsome like Tarkan or all Iranian Azeris are as beautiful as Googoosh. Their beauty or looks are usually exceptional and also sometimes fake(by unusual make-ups or beauty surgeries) --Behmod 04:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

First of all, I do not have any political view, and I don not like his political view at all, but I agree with you. Probably, Khamenei is the most famous Iranian Azeri across the world and his picture can be a good representative of a Azeri. I really respect to the poet Shahriar or singer Googoosh or scientist Lotfi Zadeh. But, none is as famous of him outside of Iran and Azerbaijan. --Behmod 08:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC) However, I think we need to add at least one picture from a female Azeri.[reply]

Trabzon[edit]

Yes, I have been to Trabzon. You see, there is (as column writer and academician Ms. Nuray Mert who is from Trabzon asserts) an "identity problem" of Trabzon. Trabzon came under Islamic rule even after Serbia and no massive influx of Turkmen settlers (except Çepni of Vakfıkebir) is recorded. Islamicization process was completed in 19th century. Therefore, "alleged" origins of Trabzon people is a highly sensitive issue. As a compensation, nationalistic discourse is always kept at a high level and Trabzon is one of the fiercest nationalist hubs in Turkey. For example, see Trabzon at Turkish Wikipedia. One line under a photo reads "A group of Trabzon braves who fought the enemy heroically and exterminated treachorous Greek and Armenian gangs". Dig it? Ciao! Behemoth 10:52, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Smal number of persian word in Turkish[edit]

Thanks for your editing on my edition on Turkish Language. You believe that Turkish language adopted small number of Persian words. I understand that wikipedia should be based on facts not nationalistic beliefs. Therefore, I would like to ask you how many words should I bring to prove that the number of Persian words in Turkish are not small number and what is your defenition for small number.

I think here is a good place for a friendly discussion of this subject. Since most of Turkish speakers are not familiar with Persian. They do not know how large number of Persian words have been adopted in their language. I just give some examples that I found from List of replaced loan words in Turkish:

  • جنگ cenk: war
  • dil: language

زور* zôr ,مشكل müşkül(?): çetin, difficult

ابتدائی ibtidâ'î: ilkel primary; primitive

خواجه hôca (Arabic?) öğretmen, teacher

طبيعى (Persianized Arabic word) tabîî : doğal natural

ابدى (Persianized Arabic word)ebedî: sonsuz forever

اجداد ecdâd (?): ata, ancestry

  • tembel : haylaz, lazy
  • nağme: ezgi, melody
  • çehre: yüz, face
  • kafiye: uyak, rhyme
  • rüzgâr: yel wind
  • mehtap: ay ışığı moonlight
  • viran: yıkık ruin
  • yekpare: bütün whole
  • ecnebi( or arabic?) el, yabancı stranger, foreigner
  • kalp: yürek, heart

Also some words that I remember right now, (Sorry if I may misspell Turkish words)

  • habar: news
  • Saz: instrument
  • Peri: Angel
  • Bahshish: tip
  • Behar: spring
  • carshenbe: (Wednesday)
  • penshnbe: (Thursday)
  • Zaman: time
  • nekadar: how much?
  • can(jan): life (Turkish nickname)
  • Gol: Flower
  • nevrouz: Nouruz
  • kale: head
  • sebzi: vegetable

Also, I had this discussion before with some Turkish friends. At first they do not accept. To prove my claim I started a game with them and asked them to select a random page from a Turkish dictionary. Then I show them the Persian words on those page. If you want I can also play this game with you too. Let me know if I need to bring more example. --Behmod 19:44, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Turkish people[edit]

I checked out the links, one of which was extremely vague and not very well referenced which I deleted and reworded the section. It's not the 'latest' study as the latest study are mentioned above. The results point to some individuals in Turkey who show common genetic markers rather than most Turks so I reworded it accordingly. Hopefully, that'll do. Tombseye 20:18, 26 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey what up dude. Check this out: [5]. What do you think we should do? That picture is pretty good and goes well the article since she's pretty famous and all. I'm sure you're busy what with your impending trip, but if have time, weigh in on Terrorism in Kashmir, especially the discussion page. I stay away from these disputed territories disputes (such as West Bank, Nagorno, Tibet) but sometimes one can't help it, ya know? Yeah, hopefully Steve will respond, rather than saying go away kid you bother me or something. At any rate, do you think the Pashtun page stands a chance at featured article status? I'm thinking of redoing a lot of it, even while I work on History of Turkmenistan and next History of Armenia, which looks pretty short and that's just a tragedy. Yeah Total Recall is great and I say that even as someone who voted against the Governator. I'll say one thing, even though I think he's a lousy governator, er, I mean governor, he does provide louds of comedy value and I just try not to think of him as the governator when watching his movies. Tombseye 21:30, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. I'm thinking History of Armenia next. Your help would be appreciated during the process of slow piecemeal editing that will commence soon. I've been lazy of late as well, but wikipedia's a good 'taking a break from it all' therapy for me. Or so I would like to imagine... Tombseye 22:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, great quote. Say what do you think about submitting Iranian peoples and Pashtun people for Wikipedia:Peer review? Might help to fast track to featured article status or at least point us in the right direction. Well back to real work. Ciao. Tombseye 17:37, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tone's RfA thanks[edit]

Dear Khoikhoi/Archive 10 — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 46/2/3 so now I am an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any anything I can help you with in the future. And please correct me, if you spot I make a mistake. Thank you again. --Tone 23:58, 26 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Revertion[edit]

I think you just click on history and then the link of the article you want to revert to and save? Also have a look at this article: [6]. It is very unfortunate.

South[edit]

Hi Khoikhoi. Could you please have a look at Azarbaijan (Iran). Some editors tried to delete that only Iranian sources consider the term South Azerbaijan to be politically motivated, while both sources they provided are Iranian. They need to show at least one non-Iranian source that considers the term politically motivated. Grandmaster 20:39, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think the wording could be better? "Iranian source" doesn't sound right to me. --K a s h Talk | email 20:48, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hi Khoi, thanks a lot for the barnstar - I really appreciate it. Gmadlob (=thanks), and keep up your good work. --Kober 05:51, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no strong opinion on the matter of moving Oghuz Turks to Oğuz Turks; as long as the appropriate redirects are made, of course.

However, to a small extent I might be against insofar as the sound of "ğ" in modern Turkish is (except in some dialects, I think) simply indicative of a lengthening of the preceding vowel and is not actually pronounced itself, whereas historically—i.e., in very old Turkish, which is the time period most of the article deals with—the sound was a voiced velar fricative, which is sometimes represented, as for example in Irish and the most common forms of Arabic transliteration, by means of a "gh" digraph, whereas the "ğ" exists only in Turkish, Azerbaijani, and perhaps some other Turkic languages—i.e. "ğ" is probably somewhat less familiar to most English speakers (this being the English Wikipedia).

That, however, may just be a quibble. I would say, leave it at Oghuz Turks (so long as Oğuz Turks redirects there); but I wouldn't strenuously object if the page were moved, either. —Saposcat 18:06, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Vlachul[edit]

Don't keep reverting. It's probably Bonaparte - he'll get fed up and leave soon. --Telex 18:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is - he follows Greier about reverting to his version. This happened at Vlachs of Serbia. --Telex 18:10, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re:[edit]

Effendi Mehmet Oglu aka John Stevens is not posting controversial material per say, he is copy pasting information with the exact same wording from other web sites. Search the first line of the material on google and you will find the exact same thing on several propaganda sites.--Eupator 18:09, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It sure is, among other things. Effendi Mehmet Oglu=Mister John Smith.--Eupator 18:46, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Antalya-ws[edit]

i didnt delete it because it gives very detail info on up to date concerts etc. not trying to promote any kind of tourism company. Metb82 18:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Elephants again[edit]

Dear Khoikhoi, our friend Bduke disappeared... He thinks about Elephants, "original researches" and things like that. I ask you to join our discussion, because it seems Bduke needs your help. Please, read the beginning of the discussion here and go to my talk page. If you cannot defend your point of view, you should ask reinstatement of the "Certainty_Principle". With best wishes, Rcq 21:00, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greco-Turkish war[edit]

Not sure it needs protecting, you seem to have it under control. There only seems to be one anon vandalising at the moment. Let me know if sockpuppetry increases, or if the frequency increases... - FrancisTyers 22:49, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kurdistan category[edit]

Personally, I am rather indifferent to a Category: Kurdistan Khoikhoi, as long as it does not venture into a square inch of Turkish territory.:) If some wish to use that category for classifying their culture, history, ethnicity, let'em be!. But when categorizing specific geographical elements, like a city, or a province, I don't think there is any discussion on the question of national sovereignty for the places concerned, and wikipedia should respect that. I can think of some hundreds of millions of people (without giving names) who would love to see Tel Aviv or Jaffa under another category, going about in claims over it, but they are Israeli territory, period! and Israelis decide how they should be classified. pontian greek genocide[edit]

if by "reliable" source you mean "non-partisan" and "non-greek" the answer is simply "no".

  • IMO the number given in the article is fictitious: maybe the total number of greeks who were killed or died at the labour camps in Minor Asia is close to 300,000 but to state that 300,000 pontian greeks alone died is simply an exaggeration.
  • in any case, it is very hard to know are there are no reliable censi for this period ( at least from what i know) and there is a complete lack of reliable sources since by the time (-1919) the ottoman administration had almost collapsed .
  • i would also like to add that the article is misleading: it gives the impression that the persecution culminated in 1919-22 whereas already by 1919 it was almost completed.
  • it makes no clear distinction between pontian greeks and greeks in general.
  • it mentions persecution by stalin, which took place quite later, (from what i know) was not on a national base and in any case has nothing to do with the subject.
  • the book by venezis has nothing to do with all this, as he was not a pontian and he did not describe the persecution of pontians.

best --Greece666 00:35, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No comment for the first 5 *s (cause they are simply POVish), but just one for the last one (cause it 'may' derive from ignorance: Venezis' book has a lot to do with the pontians. and even if someone prefers to interpert everything written in it otherwise, just a simple notice: Pontians were part of the Greek population of Anatolia. so even in this case, Venezis has to be mentioned. --Hectorian 01:25, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
khoikhoi's page is not the place for us to discuss the "pontian greeks genocide" article. --Greece666 01:40, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Khoikhoi: it definitely needs complete re-writing. i can try to rewrite the article in july- until then í'll be away from my library.--Greece666 01:40, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It was u who started discussing it here and, btw, i do not have any reason not to feel welcomed in Khoikhoi's talk page. --Hectorian 01:46, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery[edit]

After much consideration, and after thinking that all pictures are really nice (but unrelated to each other-and thus hard to pick up the best), i have chosen this one: [7]. It's a really beautiful, detailed one (when enlarged, of course), with much green colour and light coming from black clouds. it reminds me of sunshine(calm) after a storm, or more poetically, of hope after a downfall... or even more dramatically, of brightness before the end (hence 'sunset')... Select your choice (i may make it my wallpaper:p):) --Hectorian 02:01, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

From those, i prefer the last one... Cheers! --Hectorian 03:15, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wha? Me? Oh yeah.[edit]

Yeah I thought about that, but I figured why not let people severely critique the page and then change it as they critique it and perhaps the tide will turn towards accepting it as a FA. Or do you think that's just too optimistic a view? If you strongly think it'd be better off with a peer review first, then I'll go along with it. Perhaps I'm just in a reckless mood. ;) Tombseye 04:07, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, major changes done to Pashtun people. Feel free to weigh in as to whether or not the article should be a featured article. I tried to address the concerns and copyedited it to make sure it reads okay. Thanks and adios! Tombseye 19:51, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Mystery mosque[edit]

Sorry, but I don't know just which mosque that is. Judging from the picture, I'd say it's most likely somewhere in Istanbul's Eminönü district, but I don't know that area too well, so unfortunately I can't give you much more to go on than that. Sorry. —Saposcat 08:23, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, it looks like the mosque at Eminönü, just across the Galata bridge, right next to the entrance of the Mısır Çarşısı (Egyptian Bazar). Can't remember its name, though ... --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 17:19, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, it looks like the Yeni Cami (New Mosque), but I'm not sure ... --Benne ['bɛnə] (talk) 19:47, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question for you[edit]

Hi. I hope all is well with you.

I recently encountered a matter which I wrote at Talk:Kurdistan_Workers_Party#About_Asala_.2B_Armenian_Link

This orphans issue is new for me, I also think it's interesting. I wanted to get your opinion. If not yet included, is it noteworthy? if yes, how can we add this in Wikipedia? A new article or a section (to which article)? Cheers--Gokhan 14:44, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comments in Lar's RfA![edit]

We are here to build an encyclopedia!

Hi Khoikhoi, and thank you for your supportive comments in my request for adminship! I did in fact make WP:100, thanks in part to you! With a final tally of (109/5/1), I have been entrusted with adminship. It's been several weeks since the conclusion of the process, so hopefully you've had a chance to see me in action. Please let me know what you think! Thanks again, and I will do everything I can to justify the trust you've placed in me! ++Lar: t/c 03:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting[edit]

Hi Again, Again I need your help. How can I revert an existed edition?

How about when I found a some paragraphs in an article that have not enough relevancy to the article. For example look at brief historical overview of People of Turkey [ (Check this link out)[8]]. I think some paragraphs are redundant. What is Wikipedia policy about this circumstances?

For example:

Various exceptions to this includes the Hamshenis, Armenian Christians converted to Islam in the 16th and 17th centuries, who still kept some Christian traditions and .......

Throughout its history, the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish republic welcomed many persecuted peoples. These people came from a wide ........

Spanish and Portuguese Jews after 1492; political and confessional refugees from Central Europe: Russian schismatics in XVII-XVIIIth centuries, Polish and Hungarian revolutionaries after 1848, Jews escaping the pogroms and later the Holocaust, White Russians fleeing the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, Russian .........

Regard to reverting, It is just a general question for the future. At the moment I do not have any plan to revert anything.

But how about when I think the article People of Turkey, specially the part entitled "a brief historical overview" should be shortened. What kind of overview is it? The overview should be short as possible, but in this part there are many paragraphs which seems to be redundant.

Nizami[edit]

Hi What do you think a portion of Nizamis poetry should be moved to wiki-source? I also saw another discussion, which I can comment about, since I have done rearsch on it. About PErsian influence on Turkish, before the language reformation, about 75% to 80% of Ottoman texts were either Persian or Arabics words that were introduced via Persian. Currently there exists about 2000 Persian words in modern Turkish. Before the reformation though, almost any Persian word in Persian would be of use in Turkish. Currently Uzbek, then Azeri and then Anatolian Turkic languages have the most number of Persian words. Also it is not just words, but grammer as well that Persian has influenced Turkish by. That is words used in conjunction: har-kas, agar, hich kash, gaahi, na-inkeh, chonkeh, gaah gaah, hameh, hamisheh, tak.. --Ali doostzadeh 23:48, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
