Lower East Side

Hello! Hi there K6ka! I'm curious as to why you deleted the images I posted to the Lower East Side page. I was only trying to enhance and provide more visual information. I also added images of the LES parks which were not removed. Thank you! Mag 02:41, 17 March 2016 (UTC)~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magdalamar (talkcontribs)

@Magdalamar: Do you have any diffs of me making such edits? I checked the revision history for Lower East Side and I've never edited that page. I also never deleted any images, mostly because I can't actually delete images (I'm not an administrator). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 12:19, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Overflow at your admintools page

Dear User:K6ka. Your page User:K6ka/Dashboard has appeared at Category:Pages_where_template_include_size_is_exceeded. You could help us to empty this maintenance category by replacing the admin dashboard parts of this page with {{admin dashboard/light}} that provides the same functionality, but is far less prone to overflow. Thanks in advance. Pldx1 (talk) 11:09, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Pldx1 isn't there any way to simply have the dashboard not emit the maintenance category? –xenotalk 11:37, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
Dear Xeno. I don't understand your reply. This category is to detect the pages that doesn't display correctly. With the intend to incite someone to fix the template overflows. Listing or not listing the pages on overflow would not change the fact that these pages are on trouble. Concerning {{admin dashboard}}, I am trying to see what solutions could be used. It is clear that using admincats for WP:UAA and WP:RFPP would be a greater solution. But at a more modest level, detecting if a page would create an overflow before displaying this page seems a rather good --and simple-- idea. Actually, 67 users are directly transcluding {{admin dashboard}}, while many others have tried various patches (that work or not, because admin overflows are transient phenomenons). Have you some suggestions to improve {{admin dashboard/light}} ? Pldx1 (talk) 11:59, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
@Pldx1: It's a bit unclear what you want me to replace on that page, as I am not transcluding {{admin dashboard}} directly anywhere on the page. The only templates that have "admin dashboard" in their name is {{Admin dashboard/rfarfp}} and {{Admin dashboard/uaarfpp}}. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:23, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
My point is that no one seems to particularly care or be bothered about the overflows on their admin dashboards. So just omitting the maintenance category would help you to keep the maintenance category under control. –xenotalk 13:33, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
@K6ka: What I am suggesting is <!--{{dashboard}}--> <!--{{Admin dashboard/rfarfp}} --> <!--{{admin dashboard/uaarfpp}} --> {{admin dashboard/light}} . This will give you the intended functionality: transclude what is possible to transclude, and otherwise provide a link to the overflown item. Pldx1 (talk) 13:42, 31 March 2016 (UTC)

Do you want one Edit tab, or two? It's your choice

How to switch between editing environments
Part of the toolbar in the visual editor
Click the [[ ]] to switch to the wikitext editor.
Part of the toolbar in the wikitext editor
Click the pencil icon to switch to the visual editor.

The editing interface will be changed soon. When that happens, editors who currently see two editing tabs – "Edit" and "Edit source" – will start seeing one edit tab instead. The single edit tab has been popular at other Wikipedias. When this is deployed here, you may be offered the opportunity to choose your preferred appearance and behavior the next time you click the Edit button. You will also be able to change your settings in the Editing section of Special:Preferences.

You can choose one or two edit tabs. If you chose one edit tab, then you can switch between the two editing environments by clicking the buttons in the toolbar (shown in the screenshots). See Help:VisualEditor/User guide#Switching between the visual and wikitext editors for more information and screenshots.

There is more information about this interface change at mw:VisualEditor/Single edit tab. If you have questions, suggestions, or problems to report, then please leave a note at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback.

A friendly suggestion regarding Template:Vandalism Information

Hi K6ka. I edited the Vandalism template at 15:08 UTC on 22 May, because at that point of time, I already had been doing about 3 hours of solid huggle work, and it was within the last hour I faced an RPM of over 6-7. The first editor of the series of edits, I dream of horses was right in editing the template at that point of time, suddenly Defconbot updated with a level 0, which is not only unrepresentative of the situation at that time, it was clearly indicating it was unable to provide information, as good as malfunctioning. My last edit was at 15:45 UTC, which was 12:45 AM where I live, and I was going to sleep, therefore I did not make the revert back to Defconbot.

It was interesting to note that Defconbot then came back to normal shortly after (16:30 UTC), but I was certainly not there to see it. But even then, at the point of time I was active, I had grounds to make sure that the template reflected up-to-date information representative of the situation, which Defconbot was clearly not doing. At the end of the day, it's not about whether Defconbot is right or I am right or you are right; we just need patrollers to be on the beat whenever it is most required.

I would like to give a friendly suggestion that instead of going passive-aggressive in reminding other editors on your point, maybe you should engage in discussion with the editors in question. RCP and counter-vandalism is a collaborative effort, and the sum total of our actions is the defence of Wikipedia from disruption, not the defence of our point. Best regards, Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 02:09, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

@Optakeover: I understand your concern, and thank you for bringing it up to my attention. I wasn't exactly in the best of moods when I made that edit (I'm still pretty salty right now, having an entire weekend wasted doing something I hate and that leaves me tired doesn't leave me much room to be cheerful; I swear I'm not normally like this), but I was in fact frustrated because it has happened before, where people have edited the template despite the fact that DefconBot was working fine. (I'm also still cheesed at the fact that people leave level 2 headings on WP:CHU/S, so I feel like I have a lot to get ticked off about lately!) I did not notice DefconBot's edit at 15:00 UTC being it setting the template to level 0, only that there was an edit at 15:00 UTC, which led me to believe someone didn't check properly. In any case, I do apologize if I came in a bit too harsh, and I will be going to bed shortly anyhow so I can clear my mind. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 02:25, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you k6ka for your reply. Your message in the template is appropriate, and I understand why you do give reminders like this, because editors do make mistakes. Hopefully next time someone makes a repeated error, that you'd be sure to drop him a note instead. Have fun, and thank you for your involvement! Optakeover(U)(T)(C) 11:49, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

June 2016 Guild of Copy Editors Newsletter

Guild of Copy Editors June 2016 News

Hello everyone, welcome to the June 2016 GOCE newsletter. It's been a few months since we sent one out; we hope y'all haven't forgotten about the Guild! Your coordinators have been busy behind the scenes as usual, though real life has a habit of reducing our personal wiki-time. The May backlog reduction drive, the usual coordinating tasks and preparations for the June election are keeping us on our toes!

May drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in last month's record-setting backlog reduction drive. Of the 29 people who signed up, 16 copyedited at least one article, 197 copyedits were recorded on the drive page, and the copyedit backlog fell below 1,500 for the first time! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz will occur from 12 June through 18 June; the themes will be video games and Asian geography.

Coordinator elections: It's election time again; how quickly they seem to roll around! Nominations for the next tranche of Guild coordinators, who will serve a six-month term that begins at 00:01 UTC on 1 July and ends at 23:59 UTC on 31 December, opens at 00:01 UTC on 1 June and closes at 23:59 UTC on 15 June. Voting takes place between 00:01 UTC on 16 June and 23:59 UTC on 30 June. If you'd like to assist behind the scenes, please consider stepping forward; self-nominations are welcomed and encouraged. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; remember it's your Guild, and it doesn't run itself!

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Miniapolis and Baffle gab1978.

Editing News #2—2016

Editing News #2—2016 Read this in another languageSubscription list for this multilingual newsletter

Did you know?

It's quick and easy to insert a references list.

Screenshot showing a dropdown menu with many items

Place the cursor where you want to display the references list (usually at the bottom of the page). Open the "Insert" menu and click the "References list" icon (three books).

If you are using several groups of references, which is relatively rare, you will have the opportunity to specify the group. If you do that, then only the references that belong to the specified group will be displayed in this list of references.

Finally, click "Insert" in the dialog to insert the References list. This list will change as you add more footnotes to the page.

You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor team has fixed many bugs. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. Their current priorities are improving support for Arabic and Indic scripts, and adapting the visual editor to the needs of the Wikivoyages and Wikisources.

Recent changes

The visual editor is now available to all users at most Wikivoyages. It was also enabled for all contributors at the French Wikinews.

The single edit tab feature combines the "Edit" and "Edit source" tabs into a single "Edit" tab. It has been deployed to several Wikipedias, including Hungarian, Polish, English and Japanese Wikipedias, as well as to all Wikivoyages. At these wikis, you can change your settings for this feature in the "Editing" tab of Special:Preferences. The team is now reviewing the feedback and considering ways to improve the design before rolling it out to more people.

Future changes

The "Save page" button will say "Publish page". This will affect both the visual and wikitext editing systems. More information is available on Meta.

The visual editor will be offered to all editors at the remaining "Phase 6" Wikipedias during the next few months. The developers want to know whether typing in your language feels natural in the visual editor. Please post your comments and the language(s) that you tested at the feedback thread on mediawiki.org. This will affect several languages, including: Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Tamil, Marathi, Malayalam, Urdu, Persian, Bengali, Assamese, Aramaic and others.

The team is working with the volunteer developers who power Wikisource to provide the visual editor there, for opt-in testing right now and eventually for all users. (T138966)

The team is working on a modern wikitext editor. It will look like the visual editor, and be able to use the citoid service and other modern tools. This new editing system may become available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices around September 2016. You can read about this project in a general status update on the Wikimedia mailing list.

Guild of Copy Editors July 2016 News

Guild of Copy Editors July 2016 News

Hello everyone, and welcome to the July 2016 GOCE newsletter.

June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 12 through 18 June; the themes were video games and Asian geography. Of the 18 editors who signed up, 11 removed 47 articles from the backlog. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part.

Coordinator elections: The second tranche of Guild coordinators for 2016, who will serve a six-month term until 23:59 UTC on 31 December, have been elected. Jonesey95 remains as your drama-free Lead Coordinator, and Corinne and Tdslk are your new assistant coordinators. For her long service to the Guild, Miniapolis has been enrolled in the GOCE Hall of Fame. Thanks to everyone who voted in the election; our next scheduled one occurs in December 2016. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; self-nominations are welcome and encouraged.

July Drive: Our month-long July Copy Editing Backlog Elimination Drive is now underway. Our aim is to remove articles tagged for copy-edit in April, May and June 2015, and to complete all requests on the GOCE Requests page from June 2016. The drive ends at 23:59 on 31 July 2016 (UTC).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk.

Issue with username changes

Hi, I put a request to change my username to TedEdwards last week, but the request has not been met due to the technical issue with the software. Could I ask if you have any idea when this issue will be sorted out? Theoosmond (talk) 21:41, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

@Theoosmond: The patch should be out by the 14th, according to phab:T137973#2434800. Sorry for the long wait. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:43, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Username Change request move

Hi K6ka, Just to let you know that i have moved my request to Meta:Steward requests/Username changes so that the existing user can be usurped. The account who carries the name i want to be renamed as hasn't made a single edit since 2009. Thanks! Class455fan1 (talk) 20:48, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

@Class455fan1: Yes, I've seen it. I'll let another renamer handle the usurpation request; be sure to notify the target user on their home wiki about the request, and we'll give them about a month to respond. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:49, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Already done. Notified target. The account was based on the commons. However it says on the notification that if they do nothing, the request will be filled after seven days (which they do nothing will be most likely). Will the 7 days be the case or will i have to wait a month? Class455fan1 (talk) 20:51, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
@Class455fan1: 7 days is the waiting period for WP:CHU/U; however, WP:CHU/U can only process requests for accounts that have a presence on the English Wikipedia. Accounts that have a significant presence on other wikis, like in your case, have to be filed at m:SRUC, where the waiting period is one month. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 20:55, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
I see, So should I assume that my account will be renamed on August 19? In which case i will place a notice on my talk page.Class455fan1 (talk) 20:58, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
@Class455fan1: Around the 19th or 20th, if the target user doesn't respond. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:02, 19 July 2016 (UTC)
Okay. Thanks for your help! I will start to place a note on my user and talk pages saying if all goes to plan, i will be renamed. Class455fan1 (talk) 21:06, 19 July 2016 (UTC)

Wikilove?

I'm dumb & usually only correct small edits & spelling mistakes so I hope I am doing this right. I read your user page & you said you appreciate WikiLove, so I wanted to give you some. Thank you for all the name changing you've done for me. My name change mid-life crisis is over & you will probably be rid of me now, but I wanted to thank you for the tireless, repetitive work you do for people who probably never do stop to say thanks or really even realise you are a person (I thought you were a bot the first time, I am so sorry). So thank you, for the repetitive work that many people are never willing to do & certainly not without a paycheck. Thank you. I wish I could buy you a coffee or some other for of gratitude (that I can afford, I am dirt poor, but I'd blow my weekly 6 dollar allowance on you if there was a way??????? Hint hint nudge nudge). Thanks again. Monroe Charles (talk) 23:48, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
