Tack! (Och Ceve Linde)

Tjenare!

– Elisson • T • C • 19:56, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Apologies

I never meant to indicate your behavior was toxic. I have clarified my remarks. --dashiellx (talk) 11:12, 5 May 2021 (UTC)

No worries, I sort of understood it wasn't directed at me specifically. – Elisson • T • C • 19:29, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Hi @Kudpung! Thank you for the review, though I do not fully agree with the change of headings. It rather seems that ORES needs to be improved as MOS:NOTES allows for the variant I used in the article. I've also used it previously without problem, e.g. for featured articles and various DYK articles, see example usage at Carl Linde (football manager) (with "Footnotes" as an additional heading for explanatory notes). "Bibliography" doesn't really make sense, when one of the books listed there is some 270 pages of which about half a page concerns the article subject. – Elisson • T • C • 23:13, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
As you wish, but there are more common ways of configuring article formats (see Heading names). Reviewing new pages is a thankless task and ORES flags in the NewPagesFeed naturally make more work for reviewers - that's what they are for. You are most welcome to suggest improvements to ORES, you can list it at Page Curation/Suggested improvements, or as it doesn't need a debate, even open a ticket directly at Phab although I'm not sure if the huge development project of ORES is still ongoing. As an admin, you are equally welcome to help out at the massive NPP backlog. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:33, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
PS: Dicdef: Bibliography: a list of the books referred to in a scholarly work, typically printed as an appendix. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:49, 2 July 2022 (UTC)
@Kudpung: I'm sorry you felt offended by my reply. Yes, there are more common formats, but your variant isn't one of the more common formats either. Changing it solely because an automated tool cannot recognise citations even though they clearly are there seems like a thankless job (and is not in line with MOS:VAR). I'm not the one directly affected by it, and with my limited knowledge of WP:PAGCUR and WP:ORES, it would seem more logical for you to report it as you know your way around it and is likely to be more disturbed by it. Quickly checking the new pages feed, it seems quite common for articles to be marked "No citations" when the article uses short citations.
I am grateful that you and others are devoting time to new pages patrol, more so because you need to deal with people like me (or worse ...) from time to time. I would love to help but with my very limited time available for Wikipedia, I have made the conscious decision to put as much of the time I have available into creating content rather than using my mop (time was not a problem when I originally got it).
Again, thank you for reviewing, I do appreciate your work! I'll revert back, and let's hope ORES improves. :) – Elisson • T • C • 11:04, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
I didn't feel offended at all - nowadays at NPP we discover that the vast majority of new articles are are submitted by very new users and and non native speakers with very low levels of English. For many years I was dedicated to the tools and scripts that deal with improvement and deletion. I wouldn't argue however with someone who knows their way round MoS better than I do. I co-designed the NPP system we use these days but it was mainly to address its use by less experienced patrollers, to encourage new users to format their pages correctly and to provide sources, and most importantly to enhance the detection and prevention of totally inappropriate pages from entering Wikipedia. Sadly I'm now in my twilight years and don't generally have the time to dedicate to Wikipedia as I did during the many years I had a mop. Take care. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 11:35, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Notice

The article Swedish football Division 2 Södra has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

being notable in Swedish Wikipedia does not make it notable in English

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
