Fb team templates

- Hi! I've been doing extensive research of my own on the things you and I have discussed for the last days. I've been going through various media and club resources such as websites and other literature. What I've found is the following, almost all clubs (Elfsborg is a notable exception) refer to themselves in all cases with their full name, along with the abbreviations. Almost all clubs also feature their abbreviations in their club logo as well. I believe this proves the point you made in the previous discussion about the abbreviations actually being part of the club names in a larger sense than I previously thought. The media still refers to the clubs mostly without abbreviations, this supports my view about common speech, however the usage heavily depends on the type of media, Fotbollskanalen vs Dagens Nyheter for example.
- This tells me that you may be correct in your view to change the templates. I don't think we should overdo it, for example Djurgårdens IF and not Djurgårdens IF FF, Varbergs BoIS and not Varbergs BoIS FC or similar, two abbreviations is fine, three is overdoing it. I am still unsure if this goes against any WP norm and I'm a bit worried that it goes against WP consistency. I still think we should try to shorten the names as much as we can in the prose, first link with abbreviations is fine, but further club references in the text should be shortened for a better text flow.

- Since there hasn't been much of a response at the main talk page, this might be the sensible thing to do for the moment. I do believe we should wait some time though, maybe someone else is interrested but hasn't seen the discussion yet. I didn't mean to be intrusive, I realise that it might have looked and felt like that (me, as a "newcomer", klampar in som en elefant i porslinsbutiken and wants to change a lot of the things you've created over the years) and I apologise. You've done a fantastic job in converting all the tables to the standard template using variant, plus everything else you've done for the Swedish football articles.
- I agree with your proposal, no FF och FK or FC as long as this is only added to distinguish the football section from the other sections, and prose is up to the editor and, as you say, can be shortened (and varied, for example for Malmö FF this means "Malmö", "MFF" and "Malmö FF" can be used interchangeably) to fit the text, only writing out the full name of the club on the first instance it is mentioned in the article.
- I agree, let's give it some time and see if someone can offer a better solution. Don't worry, you didn't come off as intrusive, on the contrary I'm glad you brought up an issue worth discussing and I actually learned something new. I've encountered a lot of editors on WP that prefers action before discussion, something which only leads to unnecessary edit wars. Setting standards is a good thing, we should consider standardizing other things such as article format for the Allsvenskan season articles, such as what sections to include, what maps to use (two different ones right now) and what statistics to include. --Reckless182 (talk) 01:16, 11 December 2011 (UTC)

- This is an issue that I do not feel "highly charged" about but recognise that it has ramifications in the way that league tables are presented in the future. I have added some additional content to WikiProject Football in the hope that it will stimulate broader and more informed debate. One week has passed and our discussion over at WP:FOOTBALL has been archived without any further replies. Let us proceed with the process, As I said above, I can agree with the renaming of the templates as long as we don't overdo it. Welcome back
Catching up on what I'd missed after returning from a wikibreak, it was a pleasure to see your name on WT:WPF. There's not many left of the real old-timers. Angelo's still here, as are ChrisTheDude and The Rambling Man. I don't edit all that much myself these days. Nevertheless, while the names have changed, the Football project is busier than ever. It's nice to see that you're still active (I checked two football users for activity when I returned, you and Qwghlm, who seems to be on a very long wikibreak), along with a few of the other long time members. I mainly returned to contribute to other areas than football, but it seems no matter how hard I try to stay away I get sucked back to the WPF. :) Yeah... six years. Yeah we've plunged in the table the last two years, even placing after city rivals GAIS, for the first time since 1989, this season... Svenska Mästerskapet, 2012 season articles
I've noticed your progress with the season and finals articles, great job! I'm sorry that I haven't been able to create more of the season articles, I've been preoccupied with the improvement of the 2012 Allsvenskan, Superettan and Division 1 season articles. I'm trying to set some kind of standard for the articles. If you look at 2011 Allsvenskan you'll see how the articles will look when the season is finished. A couple of issues which can be noticed is the fact that the primary infobox makes the position of User:Finnish Gas's "Swedish Football 2011" infobox and the team map a bit akward and not very good looking. Finnish Gas first placed his infobox in the "League table" section of the article but since I didn't think that the infobox had any relevance to the league table I suggested a placement under the primary infobox instead, but as you can see this creates a bit of a layout problem when the primary infobox is complete. Do you have any suggestions regarding the placement of the "Swedish Football 2011" infobox infobox or any other ideas about the format and layout of the season articles in general? - The "Swedish Football" infobox that I have introduced throughout Swedish football has increased visitor traffic as users are now able to easily migrate between tiers/divisions. In the majority of years this small box fits in nicely. However I agree for 2011 Allsvenskan with an enlarged primary box there is a layout problem for the "Swedish Football" infobox. For me the Swedish Football 2011" infobox fits perfectly well in the "League table" section as users can compare movements in divisional league tables. But I accept that Reckless182 (talk) as the main contributor has a different view-point. Kind regards - Finnish Gas (Finnish Gas 12:04, 15 December 2011 (UTC)).
I tend to keep out of articles that need to be updated a lot (such as current season articles), so I don't have a strong opinion, but the 2011 Allsvenskan article has a nice structure so I'd stay with that. Regarding the Swedish season infobox, why not make it a navigational template like the ones English, {{2011–12 in English football}}, and German, {{2011–12 in German football}}, football uses? – Elisson • T • C • 12:18, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- There are definitely advantages with the infoboxes like the ones you suggest. However I remember that Finnish Gas argued that the infobox is much more visible in its current format and therefore attracts more views to the different season articles. I would say that the English and German infoboxes are better for the fact that they don't take up as much space as well as they have the ability to add more relevant topics in the infobox at the same time, club seasons (currently only me writing season articles for Malmö FF, which is a pity) and other articles. --Reckless182 (talk) 12:29, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- Unfortunately navigational templates at the bottom of an article are often missed by the user. This is exacerbated by the templates being closed if there are more than one template. I have increased user traffic in Swedish football with the "Swedish Football" infobox. In my opinion to remove the infobox and replace it with a template would be a step backwards. MSU Interview
Dear Johan Elisson,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. Hi there. I found an old article (here), which says that Odd Lindberg was one of the first expatriate footballers in Sweden. As a Norwegian, I'm curious who he was, as I've never heard of him before. A little more searching got me this, a profile-page on sportsklubben.net, about his time in Örebro. The next thing I find is your page, where you have listed the total caps in his four years in Sweden. You don't happen to have any other information about this, which club he came from or left to, date of birth, place of birth, something that could defend the creation of an article? :) Mentoz86 (talk) 09:49, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- My books contain no more information about Odd (apart from him being a goalkeeper), but after using my Google skills I managed to find an article in this archive (just search for "Odd" and you'll find the article) where some interresting facts can be found. He seems to have become a professor at Örebro University (his page there) and at least some of his career clubs are mentioned (Lyn Oslo, Ope IF, Örebro SK and IFK Göteborg, as well as a one-year stint in what appears to be Dallas Tornado). His date of birth is 20 november 1948 as given by birthday.se (he's the only Odd Lindberg living in Sweden old enough to have played in the 70s) and he seems to have been born in Olso, he grew up there, at least. - Thank you very much. Because of another Odd F. Lindberg, my google-searches were kinda worthless, but I guess the google-preferences make you find results in Swedish, while I get Norwegian results. This is very helpful, and also very interesting. However, he is not listed in Lyn's squad in any of the years before 1967 ([1]), go I guess he was just a youngster during Lyn's greatest period (which makes sense if he went to the US at the age of 19). playerhistory.com would be a good site to check if he played for Lyn, too bad that site is down.
