EPR Architects[edit]

I am proposing that this page should exist, as they are a significant architectural practice with several references already in Wikipedia. I have a draft page on my user section which I am currently working on, and would be grateful for any comments as to why the old page was deleted in 2009.Warren Whyte (talk) 16:43, 17 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You should probably ask that from User:OliverTwisted, because he was the one who proposed the article for deletion. I think the general reason was that at the time the company didn't seem notable enough. I have looked at your userspace draft and it looks much better than the original article. Designbox Deletion[edit]

I would like to ask that the Designbox article be considered for un-deletion. The reason given for deletion was that it may not be notable enough. I believe that it is noteworthy software and should be included, citing the following reasons --

1. Designbox is an add-in product for Microsoft's Visual Studio and is listed as an add-in in the List of Visual Studio Add-ins section of Wikipedia. No add-in product will be as noteworthy as stand-alone applications, but within the Visual Studio product space, Designbox is a noted product with recognition by Microsoft, ComponentOne, Infragistics, et. al., as well as the user community. I can include additional links/references to community material if needed.

2. Designbox is a living product with an active user community. The product is actively maintained and marketed and kept up-to-date with the latest enhancements in Visual Studio. I'm not sure what metric could help here in judging noteworthiness -- but we have a large set of users that value the software and the company behind it is growing each day.

3. Designbox is functionally interesting. Designbox enables programmers and UI designers to use a novel, new approach to designing their applications. It has been recognized as innovative within the Visual Studio developer community. Quotes and links are available.

With the above statements in mind, please re-consider Designbox for inclusion. I would also be interested in suggestions for improvement for the article as well as a better understanding about what metrics/processes are used to judge notabilty so that I can attempt to address them in my edits. Joegra (talk) 23:25, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably not very important but as I made the original error, I felt it is my responsibility to mention it. The PROD on the article resulted in removing the Yoli article and moving Yoli (soda) over Yoli. However, this resulted in loss of all the history of the article Yoli. Perhaps this history can/should be restored. Again, I take full blame for the original blunder, as I did not notice the take over attempt. --Muhandes (talk) 12:24, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the entire history of Yoli, and it is now there for everyone to see, including the spam about the non-related company. However, the current version is only about the Mexican soda. JIP | Talk 14:06, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation requested[edit]

An explanation of the undefined term "WikiWikiNess" has been requested at Moin (disambiguation). — O'Dea 07:59, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't know the explanation. I created the page Moin (disambiguation) over five and a half years ago and cannot remember everything I thought back then. I did not create the article MoinMoin, I simply found it and mentioned it at Moin (disambiguation). JIP | Talk 16:01, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. I have removed the undefined term. — O'Dea 23:37, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

I have noticed that you have been editing articles about Donald Duck comics before. Maybe you will have some comments on the recently created article Donald Duck and the Mummy's Ring, which is up for peer review? What kind of bird is this? answer at misc. ref desk[edit]

"What kind of bird is this?" is answered on the ref desk as well, and if I'm right you have a picture of a Lapland bunting. I could be wrong! --Quartermaster (talk) 22:01, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

About the Race to Nowhere Deletion...[edit]

I saw a bit on the news about this movie and was surprised to see the article was recently deleted and called an "unremarkable film" that "Lacks references to significant 3rd party sources". A google search reveals coverage on ABC, NBC, & CBS nightly news programs as well as the LA Times, New York Times, and Oprah. If only most documentaries could have such coverage! And as for the sources, aren't you suppose to try to add those before deletion?

I'm sure the article as it existed wasn't much, but how much work would it have been to add the official website, IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, and copy and paste some of the categories from, say, Waiting for "Superman"? Add an expansion tag or two, and maybe alert the Article Rescue Squadron, and the article will, in time, grow, just as the film has in popularity.

But if for some strange reason that film has no place on wikipedia, then excuse me while I say goodbye to so much of what I see listed at Category:Documentaries. 4.254.82.252 (talk) 06:04, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Identifying birds[edit]

I noticed that you asked for an identification of File:A little bird in Lapland.jpg at the reference desk. A better place to ask is Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Birds, where I've submitted this photo. —innotata 00:17, 16 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nokia C5-00 pictures[edit]

Hi JIP,

Of course another picture of the phone would be fine if you feel you can improve. I think the light background on my picture and the lighter overall colour makes it easier to see the detail of the phone, so you might want to incorporate that when you take your next picture. To help me improve, what aspects of your photo do you think are better than mine? --Slashme (talk) 09:18, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the only aspect that is really better in my photo than yours is the actual image quality. By this I mean the "sharpness" or "crispness" of the image. It isn't very noticeable in the thumbnails Wikipedia shows in the articles, but if you look at the images at their original scale, you can see that your picture has noticeably more noise in the colours than my picture has. The light background and the lighter overall colour, plus the inclusion of a ruler, are certainly things that your picture does better than mine. JIP | Talk 19:53, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tentakil[edit]

I just checked out your recent addition of Tentakil being named the 28th most unfortunately named Transformer. I have looked at the cited reference and seen that it is valid, but I have to ask what is the reason for it in the first place. The cited source says "Poor Tentakil isn't allowed within 500 meters of a Japanese girls' school". Now I have only learned English as an entirely foreign language (although I like to think I know it fairly well), and I understand practically zero Japanese. Could you provide some explanation about this? JIP | Talk 20:01, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't speak for the authors of the article. Maybe you should write them. Mathewignash (talk) 20:15, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think there might be a joke you are missing. I know very little about Japanese culture but I've heard there is a style of Japanese pornography called tentacle porn. Cloveapple (talk) 18:06, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If that's the case then I'd say the joke is very poor. It's not the Transformers toys designers' or namers' fault if some Japanese people are so perverted. JIP | Talk 18:07, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm certainly not defending the joke. I haven't read the article but I'm pretty sure that's what was meant just by reading the quote here. Cloveapple (talk) 18:57, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Article moves[edit]

Please stop moving articles to titles with diacritics as you have done with Pentti Nöyränen. Please be aware that such moves are controversial, and therefore holding a discussion per Wikipedia:Requested moves prior to such a move is required. Dolovis (talk) 06:37, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The diacritics issue[edit]

Hello JIP. With regards to the diacritics issue with ice hockey player articles, there may be a few hundred redirects from diacritics by Dolovis to fix, so moving individual articles to diacritics is not really worth it. Also, as the diacritics subject is highly controversial, I don't think we should mass-move pages to titles with diacritics. Regards, HeyMid (contribs) 07:52, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello! Could you write an article about my city - Żagań on Finnish Wikipedia? Only 2-4 sentences enough. I would be thankful. Saganum (talk) 13:38, 18 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is now a first version at fi:Żagań. I translated all the prose text but left out the infoboxes and pictures for now. I could probably add them later. Let's see what the more experienced Finnish Wikipedia editors have to say about the article. JIP | Talk 17:26, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
