Possibly copyright violations at 2019 Parapan American Games opening and closing ceremonies[edit]

Hi! An article you created, 2019 Parapan American Games opening and closing ceremonies, was flagged for possible copyright violations. Using Earwig's Copyvio Detector, I found three sources from which it appears some information in the page was copied and pasted: [1], [2], and [3]. See for example the comparison here [4]. I encourage you to edit the article to rephrase things in your own language -- otherwise other editors may have to remove content from the page. Let me know if you have any questions! Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from First World Plaza into First World Hotel & Plaza. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was moved, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 23:33, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ignorant about the rules here, never bother to read them, took previous warnings lightly because they did not show any sign that my activity would be threatened. Would offer to report to Moneytrees and other admins that previously sanctioned me each time I am here editing like every month. Should my block be lifted, I also offer to return the articles to their original state before I came to edit and have all edits which involved with unattributed copy editing and copyright content removed as stated in the investigation report. I hope Wikipedia would improve its' service here to ensure users will not easily commit mistakes and improve themselves to become better users.

Request reason:

This is the first time I was blocked as I had been editing without problems in the past years while admitting I made serious mistakes in those years. After reading rules about copyright violation and guide to appealing blocks, I hereby acknowledge that:

  1. I have read and understood that I should not copying material without the permission of the copyright holder.
  2. I have read and understood that I should attribute texts when texts are copied from one article to another.
  3. I have read and understood that repeatedly post copyrighted material despite appropriate warning may result in administrators blocking me from editing.
  4. I have read and understood the Questions and Answers regarding copying text from other sources for Wikipedia articles.

And, I hereby assure that once my user account is unblocked, I will not continue any form of editing that may or is seen as infringement.

Questions to administrators:

  1. Is there anything else I have to do before I return to usual editing activities should I be unblocked?
  2. Or is there anything else I have to do before I could be unblocked?
  3. Do I have to repair the articles that I have damaged?

--Hongqilim (talk) 03:55, 12 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Procedural decline only. This unblock request has been open for more than two weeks but has not proven sufficient for any reviewing administrator to take action. You are welcome to request a new block review if you substantially reword your request. To be unblocked, you must convince the reviewing administrator(s) that

  • the block is not necessary to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia, or
  • the block is no longer necessary because you
    1. understand what you have been blocked for,
    2. will not continue to cause damage or disruption, and
    3. will make useful contributions instead.

  • Before I unblock you, could you please describe what you do when copying text between articles? (To answer your questions; 1&2: no, I don't think any sort of extra work before being unblocked or any sort of restrictions are needed. If you want to help at the CCI, make comments under the listings like this on where the text was copied from or if you don't know where they were copied from, without removing the diffs. Also, you don't need to clear the CCI to be unblocked, I'll unblock you once you give the correct answer to my question above. If you have any further questions please ask. Moneytrees🏝️Talk🌴Help out at CCI! 21:49, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Also, as another note, you don't need to attribute edits like this where you're taking an existing list article and then modifying the data, since lists of names/titles/medal tables/other statistics aren't copyrightable; also, if the text is stuff you wrote for another wikipedia article, you don't need to attribute it. World Break: Aria of Curse for a Holy Swordsman[edit]

Thanks for weighing in. As you can see I'm working on this CCI. most of the edits of fine and thank you for your many contributions to international athletic games. I have found a few items, which I have fixed. I've had a couple cases where our tool suggests there's a problem but the results don't completely make sense which is why I reached out to MoneyTrees, who doesn't seem to be active at the moment.

Thanks for identifying the text came from fandom. In a recent exchange with one of our copyright experts, Diannaa explained how she handles text from fandom. in short she provides proper attribution at the bottom of the page as seen in this example:

I think the comment at the top of the page is intended for reviewers and appropriate for a draft article. In the case of the article you contributed to adding the explanatory note at the bottom of the page should be sufficient. Problem identified[edit]

I identified a problem with this edit It seems too close to this site which predates your edit.

Would you be willing to help me resolve this, either identifying something that I misunderstood, or if not, suggesting alternative wording that makes the same point without being a direct copy. I think your block prohibit you from actually making the edit but if you suggest wording to me I can make it for you. For what it's worth, I'm very impressed with how much work you've done on international games and Wikipedia is a better place for your involvement so I'm hoping we can resolve the CCI, confirm that you understand our concerns about copyright and lift your block.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:18, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, it was there long before I came. That revision was actually a revert edit. And this is the last revision before I started editing there.--Hongqilim (talk) 00:38, 5 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal re unblock[edit]

I see that you use a page says:

Hi I am just having copyright issues with Wikipedia. I will return when all issues have been resolved.

As you know, I've been working on clearing many of the items. I'm impressed with how much work you've done to add content related to international sports competitions. While some of those edits included the use of copyrighted text, I think you know understand what is permitted, what is not permitted, and when attribution is needed.

There are a small handful of items that I haven't fully addressed. In almost all cases, it involves the inclusion of material from media guides or other promotional items which you understandably thought were permissible for use, but in fact are fully copyrighted and need to be fully paraphrased if used. One option, which I don't really like, is the need to identify the matching material and simply remove it. the result would cut out important aspects of some articles and would not be good for the reader. The better approach would be to fully paraphrase the material to make the same point but do so with original language. That option would be a little more work. I'd like to unblock you on the condition that we work together to clean up the remaining items. What you think?--S Philbrick(Talk) 13:47, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That is a good idea. (Hi I am just having copyright issues with Wikipedia. I will return when all issues have been resolved.) Actually that was a message for other users in case they ask me for help.--Hongqilim (talk) 15:03, 29 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Hongqilim, I just unblocked you because I don't think the block is preventive anymore, I think you understand not to copy from sources anymore, your work on the CCI and earlier appeals show that. Just remember to say something in the edit summary like "copied from (article name)" when copying content between articles, alright? Moneytrees🏝️Talk/CCI help 05:53, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Alright.--Hongqilim (talk) 06:41, 30 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hongqilim, I did understand that the message was directed to other users who might be looking to you for help, but I also took it literally – that you were not planning to return until all issues were resolved. I discussed this with Moneytrees, and we are in agreement that Wikipedia is better off having you editing as long as you now understand our copyright policy. I hope you will work on rewriting the text in the few remaining issues and I'd be happy to work with you. If you want to take it on yourself, that's fine but if you could let me know when you complete any of the items, I'll update the CCI list and we should be able to close it soon. S Philbrick(Talk) 13:42, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have changed my mind about that message. I am willing to work with you on the CCI list. As of now, I have done almost all of them, if not all.--Hongqilim (talk) 13:47, 31 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of sports[edit]

I think 1 problem from you is you have too much illustration, "although Archery, Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Shooting, Taekwondo and Wrestling are also martial arts", are you defined it or organisers defined it, you have reliable sources to prove it?

Request reason:

I admitted that I had bludgeoned, blanking and antagonized User:Sneha04, User:Aleenf1 at their talk page repeatedly previously and being rude at them at times. I was struggling to find ways to resolve my differences with these two users and I admitted I had also misunderstood their roles as users in someways as well as being uncivil towards these users. Still, I don't agree with User:Sneha04 that I had committed vandalism on 1998 Commonwealth Games, which is where the incident arised from. I recently only discovered a way to resolve the conflict between me and the other user, which is through Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard. I found it at the top of the noticeboard and I really wished I could resolve the conflict this way if I found it earlier, but my concern is: is there other way to do it and how do I know if the allegation of the other user against me was untrue? Hongqilim (talk) 08:37, 18 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see anything in your unblock request which indicates why being forced to keep off Sneha04's talk page for a month will in any way detract from your ability to contribute constructively to the encyclopaedia. (I also can't see where you were "struggling to find ways to resolve [your] differences with these two users"; on the contrary, I see you persistently battling to prevent any such resolution.) Request reason:

I was only doing it because they wanted it. First, they removed my conversation with them and then issued warning on my talk page. I replied to their warnings, telling them to take action against me for vandalising the article. But since there was no reply from them, I deliberately battling them so that they can prove to me that they can take action against me even as an ordinary user. Since I cannot continue explaining my actions at the investigation page, here it is. I considered their warnings as requests for me to grant them permission to take action against me, and only did so to help them to fulfil their wishes.--Hongqilim (talk) 03:45, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment from the blocking admin: "I was only doing it because they wanted it... I considered their warnings as requests for me to grant them permission to take action against me, and only did so to help them to fulfil their wishes." Hongqilm, these are worrying statements, and I'm wondering now if you're competent to edit Wikipedia. Also, have you forgotten that you can edit the whole of Wikipedia excepting only User talk:Sneha04? There's nothing stopping you from using the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution noticeboard right now to resolve the disagreement. It's true that the DR noticeboard will expect you to notify Sneha04 on their page that you're seeking dispute resolution with them, but you can just state in your request that you're unable to edit their page, and somebody else will take care of the notification. https://web.archive.org/web/19990427222543/http://www.kl98.com.my/results/default.html My edit on the article was based on this archived medal tally. I don't usually trust other user's opinion because their judgement are not always right and sometimes wrong. When Sneha04 said I have no right to speak of, I was so confused. What does that even mean to me as a user?--Hongqilim (talk) 08:43, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop redirecting article[edit]

Please stop redirecting articles without having a discussion first with other Wikipedia editors in that article's talk page. A topic can have its Wikipedia article as long as it has multiple secondary sources per WP:GNG, and populated, legally recognized places are typically presumed to be notable per WP:GEOLAND (which includes small town, villages, mukims etc). Even if an article doesn't have sources or very little sources, it is our tasks to improve it to add more sources and content, not to redirect them just like that. That's the purpose of having stub-tagging to articles. Chongkian (talk) 02:15, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If people want to keep them, I am fine with it. I once returned Telok Mas as full article, but it was redirected again by User:Onel5969. Please talk to them if you want to keep the article.--Hongqilim (talk) 07:41, 5 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Perak FM logo.png[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Perak FM logo.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Request reason:

I had one prior case of Copyright Violation, which had been resolved in 2021, following an investigation involving my actions in the 2019 Parapan American Games article. Prior to yours blockade, I committed similar offences in several Public University articles such as Universiti Sains Malaysia, University of Putra Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sabah and National University of Malaysia, as well as an article related to a State Radio Station in Thailand. There was an unattributed copy within Wikipedia, which involved the articles of Singapore in Malaysia and 1964 Malaysian general election, but was resolved by User:Diannaa. About my recent actions at 2022 Commonwealth Games medal table, I had try to keep the information I published as short and simple as possible without trying to elaborate too much, so as not to violate copyright. But I admit that I could have made it a bit shorter without including content that may be aimed at promoting the medals such as the one in this link https://www.birmingham2022.com/news/2603780/birmingham-2022-unveils-medals-for-the-commonwealth-games. Is there something I can do about this? I currently also edit articles related to the 2022 Asian Games which is currently held in China, but none of them face similar issues. I hope my explanation will shed light on the issues that I currently facing, and I am willing to cooperate with all admins to help me out of my situation.

This unblock request does not demonstrate an understanding of the issues that led to the block related to the continued insertion of content that violated copyright, which most certainly was not resolved in 2021. Review of the Original Source[edit]

Not confident enough? How about have some chat instead? About the one in 2022 Commonwealth Games, there are several things I probably should never had in the articles which included the ribbon of the medal, the exact location of the factory and excess details of the medals. If I could be unblocked, I will try limit the sentences I want to add to the article like one or two per citations. I had tried to reduce my sentences in all the articles I edited over the past 8 years, but I didn't realised that my actions still greatly affected the integrity of the articles which I was involved. If the article about copyright violation is too long, do I still need to read the entire article or just part of it? I don't know which part of the article concerns me the most. I think I would probably need days or even weeks to finish reading it, maybe? I don't know how thorough I should read the article because I could have misunderstood what the rules meant to me. If you ask me, I am always alone. There is no one I can talk to, although sometimes I get involved in fighting everywhere in the Wiki. Whenever I did wrong, I will unknowingly walk into wrong places. Guess that makes me unfortunate seriously, just like how I bump into walls each time in real life.😌 Taking a break is the best option for me right now, although I still have unfinished business here.--Hongqilim (talk) 11:46, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
