Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
  • A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
  • A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
  • A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.

Technical news

Arbitration

Miscellaneous

  • In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
  • Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.

Please check my sandbox

Hi there. Can you please check my sandbox? That was for Liga 1 (Indonesia) page. Maybe you can check if that page need some improvement. Although I'll post it after 2018 Liga 3 is finished (because Persik Kediri and Persiba Bantul still through to third round). Wira rhea (talk) 12:37, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

@Wira rhea:, I am looking the sandbox. But can you update {{Indonesian Club Football}} first? The template seems out of date Hhkohh (talk) 15:27, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
Also, What is the source of 2015: 3 foreign players. All 3 players can be on the field. And please help me complete club section as I have added some information on that page Hhkohh (talk) 16:47, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
Please check User:Wira rhea/Liga 1 U-19 for {{Indonesian Club Football}}. I don't know what to put in Liga 3 clubs though, because Liga 3 is divided into its province league. For 2015: 3 foreign players. All 3 players can be on the field, I already put source on it. And for club section information that you added, I'll add it later. Wira rhea (talk) 00:27, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
@Wira rhea:, list Liga 3 teams together for now and template seems okay to me. But we still need some improvement on other clubs section in Liga 1 sandbox Hhkohh (talk) 05:49, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
@Hhkohh: are you sure want to add the 2018 Liga 3 teams? Because I put Football clubs in Indonesia, 2019 there. And every year will always changed according to the result of provincial league. Wira rhea (talk) 05:57, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
@Wira rhea: Really? Because I do not know the competition format of 2019 Liga 3, can you introduce me? Hhkohh (talk) 06:01, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
@Hhkohh: of course. I'll explain the common things about Liga 3 (Indonesia). First, every province in Indonesia (34 province) held their respective league. Take 2018 Liga 3 Bali for example. And then, each province had their quota to qualified for national round of Liga 3. Bali had one spot, East Java had 11 spots, etc. In national round, all teams that qualified, compete in a tournament format to decide which six teams promoted to Liga 2 (Indonesia). So if you had to mentioned all of teams in {{Indonesian Club Football}}, It'll be a lot of work and not all province had a clear explanation how many teams that compete. So I think, we must put like the province league. 2018 Liga 3 Bali → Bali, 2018 Liga 3 East Java → East Java, for 2019 competition. What do you think? Wira rhea (talk) 06:23, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
Wira rhea, so is there no National zone route (like 2018)? Hhkohh (talk) 06:26, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
Hhkohh no, because 38 teams relegated from 2017 Liga 2 that put in National zone route was a part of transition for Liga 2 from 60 teams competed into just 24 teams to compete. But this season only six teams relegated and they're put in their respective provincial league. Wira rhea (talk) 06:36, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Edit

Hey, because that edit made no sense. Was still "blank", you should have better waited to make the complete update at once. Kante4 (talk) 13:32, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

Notice

You recently offered a statement in a request for arbitration. The Arbitration Committee has accepted that request for arbitration and an arbitration case has been opened at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GiantSnowman. Evidence that you wish the arbitrators to consider should be added to the evidence subpage, at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GiantSnowman/Evidence. Please add your evidence by December 31, 2018, which is when the evidence phase closes. You can also contribute to the case workshop subpage, Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GiantSnowman/Workshop. For a guide to the arbitration process, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Guide to arbitration. For the Arbitration Committee, Bradv🍁 21:39, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

An article you recently created, 2018 in sports/Calendar by month, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Could you please make it clear that your second bullet point is taken from the section on "When to use rollback". As it stands now, coming right after a bullet point on when not to use rollback, it looks like the second bullet point is also about when not to use rollback. I'd appreciate it if you could correct that. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:46, 19 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).

Guideline and policy news

  1. G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
  2. R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
  3. G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.

Technical news

  • Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
  1. At least 8 characters in length
  2. Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
  3. Different from their username
User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
  • Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
  • {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.

Arbitration

Miscellaneous

  • Accounts continue to be compromised on a regular basis. Evidence shows this is entirely due to the accounts having the same password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately.
  • Around 22% of admins have enabled two-factor authentication, up from 20% in June 2018. If you haven't already enabled it, please consider doing so. Regardless of whether you use 2FA, please practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.

GiantSnowman userspace,

I am sorry, but what you are doing seems to be border-line cyber bullying in my opinion, can you please stop nominating GiantSnowmans sandboxes for deletion, thanks. Govvy (talk) 15:25, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Yes what the hell are you playing at? GiantSnowman 15:27, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
@Govvy and GiantSnowman:, no more pages to be nominated. As far as I can tell, draft can exist either in draftspace or userspace. And these will be moved to mainspace if player are notable. So I think these are sandbox drafts not just sandboxes Hhkohh (talk) 15:31, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Seriously, what a waste of time doing that, 6 months, a year, two years, I am sure GS will know when a player isn't going to make it back to top-flight football. You really are up to no good today. Govvy (talk) 15:34, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Again, what are you playing at? Why didn't you try to talk to me first? I've raised at Wikipedia talk:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GiantSnowman/Workshop. GiantSnowman 15:35, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

2027 AFC Asian Cup proposal for deletion

Hi Hhkohh: I just put a deletion tag on the new article for 2031 AFC Asian Cup, and then saw that the 2027 article was also back ,so repeated the process. I did know that there was a different process if an article had already been removed, but i gave up after a brief search on what the correct process was. Thank you for invoking section G4. If you consider that the 2031 AFC Asian Cup article should also go down a speedy deletion process, can you have a look and repeat if you think it is warranted ? Cheers. Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:52, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

Alternatively, maybe both of these should still exist, but subject simply to a redirect to AFC Asian Cup ? Matilda Maniac (talk) 06:53, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
Matilda Maniac, I have checked 2031 AFC Asian Cup, but no CSD is eligible. PROD is fine to me.
Redirect is improper for me because these articles fail WP:BALL and we have similar case.
If someone recreate 2027 AFC Asian Cup, please go to WP:G4 directly.
If someone recreate 2031 AFC Asian Cup after deletion or remove PROD tag, please go to WP:AfD.
I will track these 2 articles. Hhkohh (talk) 08:45, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
Thank you for the advice. Matilda Maniac (talk) 09:26, 12 January 2019 (UTC)

There is never any official source for the top goalscorers in the CAF Champions League. I think there is not an official MVP or top scorer announced for the tournament even after the tournament has long finished. The list is solely made by counting the goals scored in the rounds, where the goalscorers have been verified from the CAF reports which are attached with the match id. So therefore it may be useless to add the citation needed tab, as we may never get the info and also because the info is made by adding up the actual goals confirmed by the actual reports.--Anbans 585 (talk) 11:05, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Will check later Hhkohh (talk) 13:11, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
@Anbans 585: I just checked 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. But there is also no source for top scores. Maybe we can cite soccerway source into articles? But better we should have a discussion in WT:FOOTY Hhkohh (talk) 06:17, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Soccerway may also not give the complete info as they don't have the info about the goal scored in the qualifying rounds.--Anbans 585 (talk) 18:11, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Anbans 585, sorry for delay reply. Perhaps we should take this to WT:FOOTY? Hhkohh (talk) 15:00, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Archiving on WP:CHUS

Hi Hhkohh. Please make sure to wait at least 24 hours before archiving completed requests on WP:CHUS, and at least 48 hours before archiving rejected requests. This gives users some time to be able to check back on their request. This is how the bot does it, so we should try to follow the same principles. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 11:17, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

K6ka, maybe 12 hours is better for completed requests because most completed requests are uncontroversial like this? And 72 hours for rejected requests? Comments are welcomed Hhkohh (talk) 11:39, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
K6ka, But bot archived rejected requests after 36 hours. I recommend 72 hours Hhkohh (talk) 11:43, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
I wrote at least 48 hours, not "right on the dot 48 hours". And the 24 hour period before archiving a completed request gives users time who may be checking back on the request page to see if their request has been completed; some people may be thrown off to see it simply disappear too soon after it's been completed. 24 hours should reasonably encompass all time zones. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 13:37, 28 January 2019 (UTC)
K6ka, sounds great. By the way, if bot is back, please also extend the bot automatical archiving period. Hhkohh (talk) 13:43, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
  • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

Technical news

  • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

Miscellaneous

  • Voting in the 2019 Steward elections will begin on 08 February 2019, 14:00 (UTC) and end on 28 February 2019, 13:59 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
  • A new IRC bot is available that allows you to subscribe to notifications when specific filters are tripped. This requires that your IRC handle be identified.

Revert on TfD

I noticed your revert on this change: [1]

Could you elaborate under which conditions this problem still occurs (and if possible file a bug report at https://github.com/azatoth/twinkle/issues)? 217.100.152.226 (talk) 11:11, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

When I nominate Templates for merging, Twinkle only notify the creator of one of template, not both templates. Maybe you can post this issue to WT:TfD if you want to edit the header Hhkohh (talk) 12:15, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Could you point to where you tested this? I quickly looked over your edit history, but I couldn't find the failed test. This doesn't seem like something that has to go through the edit page, since it appears to be an entirely non-controversial statement of fact. Either the change works, or you found a bug, so then it's reasonable to leave the remark in, and then there should probably be a bug report to go along with that. 217.100.152.226 (talk) 13:16, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Why are you edit warring over this? How is this not entirely non-controversial? What's your beef with this change? 217.100.152.226 (talk) 16:15, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
I do not think it is non-controversial. So you should go to WT:TFD first Hhkohh (talk) 16:29, 5 February 2019 (UTC)
Well, feel free to provide your reasoning for opposing this change there. 217.100.152.226 (talk) 16:33, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

Reverts

Can you please explain what was wrong with the edits that I made and why you chose to revert them? There was a very clear TFD that I was following. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 21:18, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Module:String

In Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2019 February 17 #Module:String you closed the discussion as "Merge" without any qualification. I don't believe there is sufficient consensus for that decision, given the caveats expressed by two of the five contributors. The concerns were not addressed in the debate and remain unanswered. I'd like you to reverse your close, or at least modify it to reflect the genuine issues that a simple merge would produce. --RexxS (talk) 21:50, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

RexxS, five editors are involved in this discussion. Gonnym and you are concerned that Module:String is fully-protected. It is better to ask an admin to reduce protection or just use {{edit protected}} template to let admins assist with the module Hhkohh (talk) 22:16, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Hhkohh: I'm aware that five editors took part in the discussion as I mentioned that above. Judging consensus is not a matter of counting !votes, but of weighing the strength of differing arguments. However, the concerns expressed by two of the editors were not addressed in the discussion and I fail to see how an unqualified "merge" can represent the consensus there. I don't see that raising the protection level of the code that I maintain to a level where I can no longer sensibly maintain it is a rational reflection of the debate there. There's always DRV if you remain convinced that your close was the right outcome. --RexxS (talk) 23:02, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
RexxS, I missed something while closing. Maybe I was tired. Fixed. Thanks again Hhkohh (talk) 09:18, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Deletion review for Module:String2

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Module:String2. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. This discussion above is a clear instance of falling to RexxS' pleading, which is not how TfDs should be closed. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 16:40, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – March 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (February 2019).

Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • A new tool is available to help determine if a given IP is an open proxy/VPN/webhost/compromised host.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee announced two new OTRS queues. Both are meant solely for cases involving private information; other cases will continue to be handled at the appropriate venues (e.g., WP:COIN or WP:SPI).
    • paid-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private evidence related to abusive paid editing.
    • checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org has been set up to receive private requests for CheckUser. For instance, requests for IP block exemption for anonymous proxy editing should now be sent to this address instead of the functionaries-en list.

Before I formally challenge you NAC of Template:Puke's TFD I would like to request that you reopen and relist it. There was only 1 keep !vote who then commented to delete and repurpose it. I don't know where you got no consensus from... --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:59, 8 March 2019 (UTC)

Similarly Wikipedia:Templates_for_discussion/Log/2019_February_28#Template:BIG_Synergy has only 1 comment. That is NOT no consensus. That is a CLEAR case for relisting. If you are going to be performing non-admin closures, you need to familiarize yourself more with the process. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:02, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
You relisted multiple templates with only 1 vote, but felt that one should be closed as no consensus? I appreciate that you are trying to help, but would like to ask that you stop performing non-admin closures until you familiarize yourself more with the process. You have less than a year and a half on here. Step back and learn some more. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 17:17, 8 March 2019 (UTC)
Zackmann08, why did you post to DRV before my replying? That is too bad. I am offline that time. Sometimes, may be error during closing Hhkohh (talk) 01:48, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
You need to slow down and step back. There is a LONG list of incorrect closures and relist from you. You've barely got 18 months here and a very low edit count to be doing WP:NAC. --Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 03:08, 9 March 2019 (UTC)
Zackmann08, okay Hhkohh (talk) 03:09, 9 March 2019 (UTC)

Blegh!

You've been puked on.

Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know they did something silly.

This is probably one of the few times there's a legitimate reason to use this (former) template :-) Let me know if I can be of any assistance or guidance. Legoktm (talk) 04:14, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

RfB

Why did she "have 3 RfA to become an admin?"...? Why don't you just read them for yourself? (You would then also see there were only 2 RfAs) What do you expect to accomplish with that question? Seriously. - wolf 20:12, 6 March 2019 (UTC)

Let's try it this way, now that she has answered, what did you learn that you couldn't have already learned by looking at the 3 RfAs? (Or by simply guessing the obvious?) - - wolf 04:15, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
