Reverting[edit]

A gentle word of advice: go easy on the Twinkle reverting. Since the tool makes this process much easier, it's co-commitantly easier to make mistakes, and it's also very easy to get on the community's bad side through over-enthusiastic Twinkle use. You need to take as much time over reverting with Twinkle as you would if you were doing it manually - for example, issuing a top-level warning for an edit which actually tidied up the article is excessive - that edit probably shouldn't have been reverted in the first place. The notices above also seem to indicate that you aren't being as thorough as you might need to be with Twinkle. I mention this because I've seen more than one new editor dive headfirst into anti-vandalism, make mistakes, and end up blocked for disruption - you aren't at that point yet, and you can avoid it becoming a problem if you take care with your edits. Yunshui  07:49, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I just have issues with the section blanking ones. I do take some time and even look into somes account history to tell if they are a recurrent vandal but I still don't get it right sometimes because people dont always give a edit summary. So Ill be more careful with that but still Im sure that I will get a message every once in a while and then, I just need to handle it with professionalism and make sure the edit is reverted back. Ill read your essay on twinkle too because I didnt know you had one before. Thanks GlacialFrost (Talk) 17:30, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I read your essay on Twinkle. I really appreciate the fact that you write all those because it really helps to give the simple explanation of the complex article from wikipedia. Ill check on your page for those as new topics arise. Ill be more careful with twinkle as I will probably do some more reverting tonight. I notice that the vandalism seems to go more unnoticed and appear more rapidly as it approaches nighttime in my timezone. Im assuming that that is because most anti vandalism editors across the US are asleep because since im in California when it is like 11 PM in my time, the rest of the US is already much later and no one is really around to fight vandalism other than two reoccuring users, Gillam and Oshwah. So I think that my help is more needed at night so thats probably when Ill regularly get on for vandalism because I enjoy catching users that have been doing it unnoticed for a long time or fixing hidden edits because it really makes me feel like I am making an impact and gives me more satisfaction than some of the pther editing. But I think I will work on normal editing in the day and some vandalism at night. I liked the referencing that I did even though I shouldnt have so I might read up on that some more and talk to some people who have that job about what it is like and for some tips and to find out more about the requirements. Thank you for the support Yunshui, you have really helped me navigate and learn about getting started. GlacialFrost (Talk) 19:49, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and requested that a reviewer from articles for creation mentor me just on learning what is necessary to become a reviewer there in some time because I think that reviewing requests seems like an interesting job. GlacialFrost (Talk) 20:10, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disruptive use of Twinkle[edit]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Food Network Star (season 10). Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.

  • If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
  • If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive, until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Continuing to edit disruptively could result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you.. Your use of Twinkle to revert a valid edit not once but twice is disruptive, and bordering on edit warring. You clearly didn't do some basic research on the reverts you make; you obviously hadn't read the edit summary that accompanied my removal of the link to a TV show that will never happen or you'd never have reverted. You need to turn off Twinkle and get back to manual content editing, or find somewhere else to play. --Drmargi (talk) 18:28, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Yunshui:, you've got to get him under control or block him. He left his tablet running Twinkle to have breakfast according to his message on my talk page, making how many (??) unsupervised reverts, including reverting a valid edit I made TWICE in the course of a couple minutes. He's leaving a trail of aggressive and inappropriate warnings, ANV and SPI filings in his wake. Now, he's approaching 50% edits in talk space, mostly with aggressive and multiple warnings, and generally playing hall monitor with ONE WEEK's experience on the site. He's not competent to be doing anything fighting vandalism, when he clearly has no grasp of the basics of editing and, having made a gesture at content production, has abandoned it in favor of running Twinkle full time. He's not here to build an encyclopedia, and the sooner we come to grips with the growing disruption he's becoming, the better. --Drmargi (talk) 18:28, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I said on your talk page, I am sorry for the accidental edits reverting you. I apologized and did all that I could to make it right so please recognize that. I think that it is best if we both receed to opposite corners of the wikipedian interweb as there is plenty of room and again, I am sorry for breaking that boundary. Communication is not productive between us so please leave me alone as I will you. GlacialFrost (Talk) 18:34, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'd happily stay a million miles away from any editor as incompetent as you, but it's you who has come at me aggressively twice now, first with your wholly inappropriate comments on CSI, and now with your abuse of Twinkle to revert an edit you clearly knew nothing about. Any further interaction will be down to you, as will the consequences. --Drmargi (talk) 18:41, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
assume good faith Drmargi, Glacial went out of his way to go to your talk page and apologise for his mistakes. If it continues, then file a report, but one dodgy iPad does not a disruptive user make. --Unframboise (talk) 18:39, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Another editor chiming in about something he knows nothing about. You make quite a pair. Go nurse your grudge elsewhere. --Drmargi (talk) 18:41, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I was under the impression that anybody could "chime in" to these threads! I don't have a grudge, don't be silly. I just speak out when I feel I need to. Also, re: CSI talk, the user was responding to a 3O request made by me, and whilst he did comment more on the disagreement than the 3O request, he was fair and impartial and pointed out flaws in everybody's conduct, including my own. This user will, given time and mentoring, become a very valued member of this community. Blocking, reports, and petty arguments aren't helping anyone. --Unframboise (talk) 18:47, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Unframboise. But right now, things need to calm down so I apologized to you Drmargi nor did I come at you agressively so its time for us to both stop commenting and just get away from each other because this is clearly going nowhere. And thank you Unframboise but after this comment, Id appreciate no more comments from you even though I agree with you because it is just going to upset Drmargi further and we wont be able to separate and go on our ways if this escalates much further. GlacialFrost (Talk) 18:49, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Drmargi do not respond to Unframboises above comment even if you feel that you have to defend yourself. Just let go because that comment is going to irritate you further. Lets just go our ways. GlacialFrost (Talk) 18:50, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You Unframboise and Drmargi for both taking the high road and letting go for the sake of peace. I really appreciate it from both of you as that was the mature thing to do. Thank You both. GlacialFrost (Talk) 18:56, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Glacialfrost, you need to stop playing Mommy, and start editing in content space. Editors will do what they see fit, and respond as they need to. Neither of us needs you to tell us how to behave. --Drmargi (talk) 20:30, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Drmargi GET OFF my page. I thought this was over but tou are trying to instigate a fight. Your comments are offensive. For example, you said all this- "Glacialfrost, you need to stop playing Mommy" "He's not competent" "twerp". You are trying to make things worse. I thought that you had done the right thing by calming down but clearly you havent. You are causing problems so please stop. GlacialFrost (Talk) 20:48, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hostile comment by Drmargi above Explained- Yunshui, you've got to get him under control or block him. He left his tablet running Twinkle to have breakfast (Twinkle is always running.) according to his message on my talk page, making how many (??)(Two, Drmargi literally says how many in the next sentence) unsupervised reverts, including reverting a valid edit I made TWICE in the course of a couple minutes. He's leaving a trail of aggressive and inappropriate warnings(All the warnings I post are template messages so how are they agressive, especially when they are posted properly and in response to vandalism.), ANV and SPI filings(ONE SPI filing not plural SPI filings) in his wake. Now, he's approaching 50% edits in talk space (Yes, 50% reverts of vandalism, 50% warnings to the vandals, there is nothing sinister about that.), mostly with aggressive and multiple warnings(Again, they cant be agressive if theyre template warnings. And Yes there are multiple warnings for multiple acts of previous vandalism that go unnoticed that I dig up from their contributions.), and generally playing hall monitor with ONE WEEK's experience on the site. He's not competent to be doing anything fighting vandalism(Clearly an unwarranted insult), when he clearly has no grasp of the basics of editing (The fact that I am typing in superscript right now proves that wrong)and, having made a gesture at content production, has abandoned it in favor of running Twinkle full time(Fighting vandalism is more satisfying for me and it feels more productive. Also I havent abandoned content production, I still come back to it now and then. And there is no problem in wanting to fight vandalism over making content, both help out.. He's not here to build an encyclopedia(The article I created on Daniel Burnett says otherwise), and the sooner we come to grips with the growing disruption he's becoming, the better. GlacialFrost (Talk) 20:52, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Glacialfrost, earlier today you said on Drmargi's talk page Im sorry that I offended you. I am not going to participate in any arguments so lets continue to stay away from each other as before as contact between us is not productive. So, I advise you to follow your own words and not prolong this argument. Let it go.
By the way, Twinkle is a powerful editing tool and you must carefully check each edit before reverting or leaving messages for editors on their talk page. Liz Read! Talk! 21:07, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I thought it was settled and we were all on our ways but Drmargi just had to insult me after we could have been at peace. I had to comment because I will not let users cross the line and write insulting comments on my page and I do not appreciate Drmargi returning. I am not participating further in this because you are right and this is going nowhere. GlacialFrost (Talk) 21:16, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm concerned that this claim of twice accidentally reverting using Twinkle isn't technically possible. Will look into it later to see if it can be done without several keystrokes. If it isn't technically possible, I'll block indefinitely. --Floquenbeam (talk) 22:26, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Im not exactly sure what happened Floquenbeam but I assume that the rollback button was pushed then drmargi reverted and then it was pushed again. But Im not too sure what exactly happened. I claim responsibility for the edits that were made but I am not exactly sure how they were made. GlacialFrost (Talk) 22:32, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Actually from looking at the edit summaries left by my account, it looks like undo was pressed and the edits werent caused by twinkle but by the pressing of the undo button. Floquenbeam. GlacialFrost (Talk) 22:34, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I left my tablet on Drmargis User contributions page and this happened. But it wasnt the undo button after all, ignore my last comment. I think it was the restore this version button that was pressed, the page updated or something and then it went again. GlacialFrost (Talk) 22:38, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I still dont understand how two reverts accidental or not are worthy of a ban though.
  • Floquenbeam, I rather suspect Yunshui may be tired of this professed newbie too. And I suppose you're as intrigued as I am to see Unframboise intersecting with Glacialfrost again. Bishonen | talk 23:08, 17 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]
Is it clearer now why I say I think this is User:The Editor of All Things Wikipedia? Note the quit below, which, minus the tantrum, is another parallel, right down to the "everyone's picking on me, but I might come back one day" rationale. Can you even use Twinkle on a tablet? I use a Mac, so I'm not terribly familiar with it. Regardless, I don't buy the "I left it doing whatever" explanation. There were roughly 40 minutes between the two reverts. --Drmargi (talk) 00:00, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bye[edit]

All of you have done a great job of scaring me off. This is all too stressful for me and is becoming unenjoyable for me. I may return one day but for now, Ive had enough.

And there, my friends, is the final evidence that this is, indeed, User:The Editor of All Things Wikipedia, who made the same sort of diva quit after the same sort of interactions with other editors. --Drmargi (talk) 23:52, 17 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked[edit]

Just in case GlacialFrost returns, I want to explain what I mean by "technically impossible". Unless he was intentionally faking edit summaries (in which case, block for intentional harassment, lying, and demonstrating a level of knowledge incompatible with being a newbie), he reverted using the Twinkle rollback button that appears either on a contributions page, or a diff of a page. When you use Twinkle to rollback, it goes to an edit summary page that you have to click on. So GlacialFrost would have had to:

  1. Been looking at a diff of Drmargi's last edit, or their contributions page
  2. Somehow accidentally pressed the Rollback link on the diff or contrib (so far, no issues; this is quite possible, in isolation; we've all done something like this, fat fingers and all)
  3. Somehow accidentally pressed Enter when Twinkle's "add an additional message?" screen comes up. (becoming unlikely very quickly, but... OK) Note that doing this *does not* bring back the diff page or the contributions page, it brings back the current version of the page. You can't rollback from this page
  4. Half an hour later, accidentally choose to go back to the diff or contribs page again
  5. Somehow accidentally pressed the Rollback link again
  6. Somehow accidentally pressed Enter again

So, GlacialFrost, when I block you indef in a minute, it is not because of "two reverts accidental or not", it's because you are harassing someone, and (thinking that you're smarter than you actually are, or we're dumber than we actually are) making up a story about it, demonstrating an attitude incompatible with editing here. --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:57, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Floq; after a conversation with Bishonen last night I was actually on the way over here to do this myself - appreciate you saving me the trouble! Yunshui  09:32, 18 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
