TW strategic alliance with Phoenix?[edit]

wotcha mate! What's this "strategic alliance" between TW and Phoenix that you refer to? Dairyflat (talk) 08:22, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for the ref edit! I've put the reflist on so it shows up now. Good teamwork haha. Gialloneri (talk) 02:33, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NZFC box[edit]

Hi Gialloneri, I just noticed your recent addition of this box at New Zealand Football Championship. You said it was copied from A-League - I am current drafting a new one for A-League based on the standard {{Infobox Sports league}}. You can see what I have done at User:Chuq/test. -- Chuq (talk) 03:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops. Damn capitals! I also forgot to mention, I'll see which items that exist in the current A-League infobox do not "fit" in the template one, and see if the template can be modified to suit. -- Chuq (talk) 04:13, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers mate, it looks good, I'll keep tabs on your progress and adapt the NZFC infobox to suit. Keep up the good work, and GO PHOENIX! ;-) Gialloneri (talk) 04:16, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I forgot about this .. I've only just replaced the infobox on A-League myself. Will see how it goes! -- Chuq (talk) 12:15, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gialloneri (talk) Cheers mate - I just used the same code from the A-League franchise map, all I really did was the co-ordinates and the team colours. Lemme know how your maps get on Gialloneri (talk)

Wellington Rugby League[edit]

Hey, firstly I like what you've done with this page - nice work! However I think the Wellington Orcas could also justify a separate article as the Pumas and Lions both have there own pages. What do you think? Also, where did you get the draw for the RL NPC? Regards, Mattlore (talk) 02:42, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for the feedback - I pretty much just whipped it up after an insomniac night using bits of pieces of other articles, while adding the new NPC information. As for the Orcas justifying an article - I'd agree with your reasoning, but what happened is I forgot to make the Pumas and Lions pages redirects as well, and their ownership of seperate articles is actually just an oversight on my part :P I'll do that now, especially since there is so little distinct information available on the teams. Should it seem like a good idea in future than all three teams (or even just the Orcas) have their own pages (something you are welcome to suggest if you so wish), we can always revert or edit.
Actually scrub that - I'll revert the pages. I'd like to see more specific information on teams in those articles with Wellington Rugby League having a brief overview. While this isn't possible with my limited knowledge on the subject, perhaps someone else can contribute. Also, thanks for adding the Hutt Valley franchise, I didn't even know they existed!
As for the draw - I got the Wellington fixtures from this news article, which I actually by chance reading the paper the other day. I placed a reference to this, but since I placed it next to the statement regarding Porirua Park, it's not as obvious (my bad!). Unfortunately there seems to be no other coverage of the NPC, and only the Wellington fixtures seem to be available, but hopefully this'll change as kickoff gets closer. Gialloneri (talk) 04:33, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ta for the quick reply, I had had a quick look at that article but didn't get down to the bottom and the draw. have been meaning to make a Canterbury Rugby League page for ages and there is already an Auckland one so the WRL fits in nicely. Mattlore (talk) 04:56, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds like a good plan. I'd like to see there be a page for each of the six teams in the NPC, and at this early stage it seems articles based on the federations is the most appropriate way to go. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help - I just noticed on your userpage that there's a WikiProject for Rugby League, I might as well sign up for that :P Also as a tip, the wikitable's I've used on the WRL page are really easy to adapt the data from the Lion Red Cup pages and the Bartercard Cup pages (of which it basically is taken from, except I made the table sortable). Keep up the good work, will be looking forward to see the Canterbury RL page! Gialloneri (talk) 05:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers for adding those tables to CRL - that was on my to do list - Taranaki looks good too Mattlore (talk) 23:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries bud, happy to help. I've just made one for Bay of Plenty, it's very much a stub but I felt it important to have the article separate from the Lion Red Cup version so I've just made a basic start to get things going. I'm working on the LRC template at the moment to make it a bit more stylish. Gialloneri (talk) 23:06, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Chatham Cup[edit]

Thanks for that - I'm trying to add one or two stubs a day on the Chatham Cup. There's a little bit of info online, and I think I may be able to find an offline source for some more info that isn't online anywhere, though it may take a bit of research on my part. As to Dunedin tech, it'd definitely be good to see a Dunedin side win again (though my own lower-grade playing career was with Mornington). Mind you, I wouldn't mind too much if one of the other teams got their name on the trophy for the first time ever! Grutness...wha? 09:26, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PS - please be careful with articles for "predecessor clubs" - I've moved the succession box from Mount Albert-Ponsonby to Ponsonby (soccer), where it should be! Grutness...wha? 06:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WHOA!!! Please stop! I intend to write stubs on all of those separate clubs once I have finished with the finals! Making looping links to successor clubs is simply going to make the task far more difficult - please stop adding the succession boxes until such time as I can get round to writing the articles! Grutness...wha? 06:33, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(PS - hopefully it won't be too long - and some of them are probably fine linking to the successors, but ones like Tramways were basically older clubs that had quite a history of their own). Grutness...wha? 06:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that - I was panicking a bit because we both seemed to be editing the same group of articles at the same time. Please keep going with what you were doing - but link with redirects (like this) rather than just piping the links - it'll make any expansion easier to deal with. Grutness...wha? 01:36, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chatham Cup[edit]

Hi again Gialloneri - I've finished making articles for all 80 Chatham Cup competitions, with results from the last 16 on where possible. If you know any more info you can add, go for it. I've added redirects for clubs where they seem useful and added a couple of stub articles on clubs as well. I might have a look around the web for a bit more info, but probably won't do the big library search I'd though of doing for a while - to be honest I've got to the stage where I'm getting a little jaded with it, so I probably won't do much more for a while! I haven't added any of the succession boxes to articles on teams that have won the cup (something I think you'd started doing when i started making the articles). Grutness...wha? 06:53, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vote for Football as the Australian collaboration[edit]

Hi -- I recently nominated Wikipedia:WikiProject Football (soccer) in Australia/To-do for the Australian Collaboration of the Fortnight.

This WikiProject has been inactive for a long time and with the World Cup coming up, it would be good for football (soccer) articles to be in depth and comprehensive in Australia.

If you would like to support it, click here for the project page to cast your vote

Thanks! Australian Matt (talk) 02:56, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Lhcafc.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lhcafc.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:13, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have nominated Forrest Hill Milford, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Forrest Hill Milford. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Nath1991 (talk) 12:24, 11 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Forrest Hill Milford requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guidelines for people and for organizations. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. -- BigDom 09:28, 16 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there.[edit]

Hey there, i noticed you seem to be the or one of the major contributors to football in New Zealand, and Oceania, and you seem to be getting right into overhauling the articles and bringing them right up to scratch. I also noticed your thinking of starting up a WikiProject for NZ Football which i think would be fantastic. Football over the ditch is defiantly getting stronger, kudos to the A-League and the Wellington 'Nix, the Kiwis in the World Cup will be helping the sport a lot too. So if you need a hand with anything New Zealand/Oceania football wise, just drop me a line and i'll be happy to help. Nath1991 (talk) 23:05, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

ASB Premiership[edit]

Hi G - I've moved ASB Premiership back to the former name of New Zealand Football Championship. The reason's quite simply a pragmatic one - sports sponsorships being what they are, the official name of the competition will probably change repeatedly, but it still likely be known gfenerically as the championship, in exactly the same was as England's premier league has been and still is at Premier League rather than being moved between FA Carling Premiership, Barclaycard Premiership, Barclays Premiership, and Barclays Premier League. There's still a redirect in place from the ASB name, so it's not likely to confuse anyone. Grutness...wha? 09:50, 28 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Future of WikiProject Association Football in Australia[edit]

The article New Zealand Football Championship records has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable per precedent at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/All-time English Football League 1st Division Table.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:14, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Cheers.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:12, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay[edit]

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
